stephanie sierra. now the rain has passed and we are getting ready for a more dry sunday. yes. >> and many days ahead after that. so we are starting out with some cool conditions. in fact, a lot cooler than yesterday. look at live doppler seven right now. the storm has passed and we are looking at some breezy northerly winds that will take hold today. say right now it is 53 in oakland, 42 in napa. temperatures drop significantly with low 40s in our inland valleys, anywhere from about six to maybe 17 degrees colder. you can see that up in santa rosa. so with a lot of sunshine to start out, we'll be pretty much in the 50s, 9:00 by noontime looking at upper 50s to near 60, around the bay and inland. and then the clouds will increase throughout the afternoon. just some high clouds . it will be breezy certainly in the hills. those north winds up to 20 and 30 miles an hour. and we'll talk about the accuweather seven day forecast, which includes some pretty nice and

quiet weather for the holiday week ahead stephanie. >> all right, we look forward to that. lisa thank you. a public health advisory is now lifted for parts of contra costa county. it's after a fire overnight at the marathon refinery in martinez sparked concerns over chemical releases. the county said it could affect people with respiratory illnesses or sensitivity. the area is impacted. were martinez pacheco, concord and clyde. officials say that fire was under control at 130 this morning, one person appears to have been hurt and video shows a patient being airlifted. contra costa public health first reported the fire as a level two incident, which requires a public health advisory. as the fire is under investigation. an local and state officials are taking serious action against the martinez refining company. the discussion comes after two toxic released is in just the past year. abc7 news reporter anser hassan has reaction and tells us what's at stake. armagnac bill froehlich lives

near downtown martinez, which can be a great place to walk his dog. >> he also lives half a mile from the martinez refining company. i think there's a difference between now and before. >> there were always releases periodically, but it's been much, much more frequent. >> those releases like the one that happened in july, are also the concern of the contra costa county district attorney's office. it announced a joint civil enforcement action against the martinez refining company, which could potentially lead to a lawsuit. >> i'm glad they're doing the enforcement because it seems like there's a lower level of investment in the refinery. the releases are more frequent. some things wrong. >> this joint civil action involves multiple agencies, including the bay area air quality management district, department of fish and wildlife and the contra costa county health department. contra costa county district attorney dana beckton states the goal of this joint effort with the air district is to achieve a resolution that ensures environmental compliance and to rebuild and foster a safer community for the residents of

martinez. it's a very, very important step by the county to enforce its health requirements. >> these are county ordinances that these refineries in contra costa county must obey. in the case of this particular refinery , it did not. >> us congressman john garamendi, who represents parts of contra costa county, asserts that the refinery did not properly monitor or maintain its equipment following a 20 ton toxic powder release last year on thanksgiving day, garamendi cosigned a letter to pbf energy, the parent company of the refinery. in it stating, we are concerned that this failure to notify local officials in a timely manner may demonstrate a lack of preparedness at the martinez refining company. and then came the coke dust release this summer, which indicates to me that they have not yet done the kind of remedial work necessary to operate their

refinery in a manner that is safe for the community. in an email to abc7 news, the martinez refining company acknowledged the joint civil enforcement action stating we do not have any further details and therefore cannot comment other than to reiterate our continued cooperation with all agencies regarding these matters. in martinez anser hassan abc7 news. >> well, saturday's downpours may have impacted some of your plans, but the good news one fire department says it's closing the books on this year's peak wildfire season because of that rain. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard shows us the weekend impact. heavy rain overnight drenching parts of santa rosa for hours. >> this person was braving the elements on a bike. the storm making for some dangerous roadway conditions in san francisco. this tree limb snapped off, falling on a parked car near leavenworth and bush streets, blocking the intersection for a time when the

pause in fighting would allow much needed humanitarian relief to get into gaza city right now, there are also demands for a cease fire in the israel-hamas war out of sacrament show thousands of protesters disrupted the california democratic convention last night. state officials met to consider candidate endorsements ahead of the march primary. now, the remaining events were canceled because of safety concerns as the california legislative jewish caucus is responding. it says in part, quote, we fully support the right to protest loudly and vociferously, but storming through security and shutting down a democratic process, particularly with chants calling for the destruction of israel and appearing to justify the hamas attack is completely unacceptable. all the caucus is co-chaired by senator scott wiener of san francisco. here in the bay area, a man is hopeful some of his relatives held hostage by hamas will be

released. eight. he recently learned at least one of his relatives will not make it home. abc7 news reporter tara campbell spoke with him. >> calls from jerusalem and tel aviv saturday for the safe return of more than 200 hostages still being held by hamas. i can't imagine there are babies there that can be brought home this in wake of the israeli defense forces announcing it found two of the hostages dead. a loss felt right here in the bay area. >> this is everybody's nightmare. oren rubenstein's referring to his relative, 65 year old hostage yehudit weiss, who's body was found in a house near al-shifa hospital. i think the hope and dreams of every single family that has hostages is that they come home alive. >> and that's been the hope for this pacifica resident putting up these posters of the hostages throughout san francisco, though three of the posters are three more of his relatives kidnaped when hamas attacked kibbutz

brockman is also involved in discussions about returning to the company open. ai said the founder was, quote, not always truthful in his communications with the board in the east bay. saturday marked 45 years since the jones town massacre. the community gathered for a memorial service to remember the more than 900 people killed, including over 300 children. the senseless tragedy led by cult leader jim jones, happened in guyana in 1978. some were shot, but many died by cyanide poisoning. bay area congresswoman jackie speier was shot five times and survived. saturday's memorial service was held at evergreen cemetery in oakland. it is the final resting place for more than 400 victims whose bodies were never claimed. today, san francisco leaders are remembering those who have lost their lives in traffic incidents . parents of victims will speak at the event. that includes the parents of a four year old girl

bay reporter dustin dorsey introduces us to this student helping to build a better bay area. our oceans and waterways are facing threats from the effects of climate change. >> the problem is we can't easily check to see if the water's conditions are healthy for humans and the environment. well, that was until santa cruz's jack driscoll, natalie decided to take matters into his own hands, being able to have more water health data will allow communities to be able to see the real effects of climate change in their local areas. >> so i went to kind of fill that gap to be able to create a system that was durable enough to be put out in the field and efficient enough and accessible enough to bring that data to communities. >> driscoll natalie was doing a lab at pacific collegiate school when the senior could not find the water health data needed to complete the project and then the sensors down into the water. so like most people do, he went to the internet to learn how. driscoll natalie taught himself electronics and computer programing to create this one of a kind device. it basically

takes in the ph ph temperature and oxygen reduction potential of local waterways and then using a wi-fi module, we're able to transmit that data wirelessly directly to the cloud. >> so that means community members can view the health of their water from anywhere, even locally or anywhere internationally. >> driscoll natalie says that firsthand information exists for surfers when checking conditions of waves at given locations. and with this, people could check on water health. >> we knew we had the sensors and the wireless capacity to be able to bring that information to community. but all we had for water health was we had really high end sensor systems used by a lot of really scientific and big corporations locally and internationally. and those could cost upwards of $100,000. >> driscoll natalie is working with the monterey bay aquarium and other groups to patent his technology in order to build upon it so it has greater coverage to benefit people worldwide by not having access to that information was detrimental to the health of not just us as humans in the water, but for the environment and all the animals living in it and knowing that technology existed.

in santa rosa. a little fog, 45 in fremont. our 24 hour temperature change, though, certainly tells the story of a cooler start anywhere from five to look at that up in the north and east bay 15 to 17 degrees cooler. so starting out sunny, the winds will be kicking up today and as we stop this at 11:00, you can see all the low 60s. we'll have breezy north winds and then the clouds some higher clouds throughout the afternoon. and some gusty winds. so it will be certainly bright to start a little filtered sunshine for the second half of the day. and we'll talk about more sun to start the workweek and wind. but will we see any more rain? i'll have the answers coming up, steph. >> all right, lisa, thank you. this morning, an update is expected on repairs of the i-10 freeway in los angeles county. a suspected arson fire damaged a large stretch of the freeway. governor gavin newsom, vice president kamala harris and la mayor karen bass are expected to appear at a press conference about the repair today. the process is expected to wrap up

by tuesday. now, cal fire is asking for the public's help as they identify a person of interest in this case. the agency released these images over the weekend. take a look. authorities say he had burns on his left leg and a knee brace on his right leg when he left the scene. coming up on this week, san francisco mayor london breed will sit down with abc co-anchor martha raddatz. they're expected to have a conversation about the challenges the city of san francisco is facing and her vision for the future. you can watch the full interview on this week at eight this morning right here on abc seven. president biden has rejected calls for a ceasefire in gaza. the president wrote an op ed that appeared in saturday's washington post. he said, quote, as long as hamas clings to its ideology of destruction, a cease fire is not peace. the president went on to say a pause in any fighting would give hamas time to rebuild its stockpile of weapons. the president also called on israel

a range of ancient crafts, including ceramics, jewelry and scarves. there was a live tortillas demonstration, which is a type of traditional palestine embroidery. the middle east children's alliance, or mecca, has hosted this bazaar for 20 years. now the second test flight for the spacex starship ended in an explosion just minutes after launching saturday. the spacecraft is designed to bring nasa astronauts to the moon. as abc news reporter phil lipof explains, some people are calling the launch a win for space x. >> spacex launched its mega rocket starship saturday morning from south texas for its second test flight to one. company officials said it successfully lifted off under its own power. the booster then separated and the rocket ship reached space before communication was lost. eight minutes in. the spacecraft experienced a, quote, rapid

unshare fueled disassembly, then explode via the self destruct system over the gulf of mexico at nearly 400ft. starship is the biggest and most powerful rocket ever built. the first test flight of starship this past april ended in an explosion shortly after liftoff. but since then, spacex has made dozens of improvements to the booster and its 33 engines as well as the launch pad. spacex founder elon musk taking to his social media platform, x, calling the launch a success, posting several images of the rocket as it soared into space and congratulating everyone who worked on the mission. nasa administrator bill nelson also praised the launch, which the faa said no injuries or public damage have been reported and added it will oversee spacex's investigation into the mishap to ensure the company complies with regulatory requirements. spacex cannot launch another starship until the review is complete. nasa is counting on starship to get astronauts to the moon sometime around the end of 2025.

is the best time to holiday shop for the best deals? abc7 news reporter leslie brinkley says your strategy should be different than last year. what type of dress are you looking for? >> pink if you're after a really specific toy or color or size. >> experts say maybe by now government reports show imports of things like footwear tvs and toys are actually down so far this year with railroad operates reporting, they're picking up fewer loads at ports to haul to destinations inland. >> yes, there are fewer products being delivered into the retailers, but they're already running a little bit heavy on inventory. why? because as they've been running slower on sales for the fall period, that means there is excess inventory on many items. >> there is a lot of uncertainty as retailers analyze current shopping data. >> if the numbers are not something that they like, they're going to execute some pretty dramatic price cuts in

brother jason kelce and the philadelphia eagles coverage begins at 430, followed by our sports show after the game. lisa, good morning. >> all right, good morning to you, stephanie. waking up to some pretty cool conditions as we look at live doppler seven. we are under a building ridge of high pressure and we'll see some wind because of that today as for the current numbers, it is 47 in blackhawk, but on top of mt. diablo in the 30s and the winds will begin to kick up and get quite gusty over the hills tonight into early tomorrow. it is 43 in dublin, 50 in martinez. you can see the low 50s from san francisco to oakland with 41 and some fog up in santa rosa. so the winds right now out of the north in the upper elevations and mt. tam gusting to 28 miles an hour. saint helena over 30 miles an hour. you can see mt. diablo there. so the winds will work their way down to the surface eventually. it will be breezy at the coast. nice view here of the golden gate bridge. clear and cool to start out this

morning. then a few high clouds making for a partly cloudy and breezy day today. more sunshine on and some more clouds visiting us from time to time as we get through the week ahead. the holiday week ahead. there's a look at the clear start. and then by about 2 to 3:00, maybe a few high clouds, you'll see filtering the sun from time to time. but overall, a lot of sunshine today. and as we look at the winds here, by 1:00 in the afternoon, basically along the coast, they're pretty gusty. and then they'll build in the hills. we could see gusts to over 40 and even up to a 45 miles an hour as we get through the evening hours. this is 11:00 tonight. and then look what happens as we get into your early monday morning. still quite gusty out by the delta. up in the north bay. and then the winds should ease throughout the later part of the day. but bringing more bright sun on the way for your monday with mid 60s san francisco. and look at those upper 60s arriving a little bit above average to near 70, maybe a few high clouds coming into

play on tuesday and then a weak front perhaps on wednesday day, not bringing any rain, keeping it dry day to day and temperatures will stay on the mild side. as for your highs today, underneath some high clouds late in the afternoon, 64 in oakland as well as san francisco. so this is right around average for this time of year, 63 in palo alto with low 60s up in napa. and then overnight tonight with those winds ease it'll be quite breezy to gusty in spots so we'll keep the temperatures up from the mid and upper 40s certainly in the upper elevations. so it looks like the week ahead with the winds calming down. we'll see some colder nights. the accuweather seven day forecast bright and breezy today, low to mid 60s. a colder start tomorrow. more sun on the way for your monday and then leading up to thanksgiving saying we'll see warmer days tuesday and wednesday. mostly sunny mid and upper 60s for most of us low 60s at the coast and thanks giving looks quite nice and by the end of the week maybe a little bit
