the truce is over. >> a deal approved to release hostages being held by hamas, negotiated along with israel, qatar and the us. >> abc news has learned about 50 women and children will be freed in exchange about 150 palestinian prisoners will be released by israel. there will also be a four day cease fire to allow humanitarian aid into gaza . an israeli source briefed on the deal tells abc news each day of the cease fire is expected to see a batch of 10 to 12 hostages released and if hamas continues to release hostages, the cease fire could be extended. three americans are expected to be part of the initial group released. it's not clear if a berkeley native is going to be one of them. few other details are available and the white house reiterated ten americans remain unaccounted for. abc news reports one hostage who is expected to be released is three year old abigail moore. adan, whose parents were killed by hamas. >> until we actually see abigail

return as ceo after being abruptly fired last friday. more than 500 employees threatened to quit from the san francisco based ai company and join altman at microsoft. he had just been hired to lead its new artificial intelligence team, satya nadella, the ceo of microsoft, who has a very expensive investment in openai, ended. hiring away sam altman and his co-founder greg brockman, who also left to build essentially a competing ai advanced research lab. >> microsoft. and altman are both tweeting minutes apart tonight. >> both say they are pleased with this new separate arrangement and look forward to partnering together on the future of ai as part of the agreement for altman's return, a new openai board will be chaired by former salesforce ceo bret taylor, former treasury secretary larry summers and current board member adam d'angelo. the co-founder of quora. new developments tonight

on a story and a piece of video that we showed you here last night exclusively. a mother charging onto a basketball court in the east bay and grabbing a boy who was scuffling with her son. the video went viral and many are furious about what they saw and what didn't happen afterward. tonight, abc seven news reporter j.r stone with new information from police. who this scuffle among nine and ten year old basketball players in concord led to the mother that you see here charging onto the court first grabbing the player in the orange jersey, then appearing to throw a punch towards an adult. >> since our first story aired on monday, reaction has been bold from not only those we talked with, but hundreds of people online. technically she was arrested and was escorted out and then ultimately released just pending review by the da's office this monday. concord police told us that video evidence showed that the elements of a crime were not present. now, though, they say

that is a decision being looked at. what do you see? do you do you believe that there was a crime committed there? >> when i look at the video, it's troubling. you know, you see the woman run onto the court and she ends up on top of this kid and, um, that that looks troubling to me. it's up to the district attorney's office. they are the lawyers. they ultimately make the decision. >> cell phone video shows the woman being escorted out of the building. but many of voice complaints that she wasn't handcuffed and was later released. police say they arrived after the incident. the boy who was taken to the ground and his family were already gone . >> we had just that that one side of the story at the time. the other involved parties had left and weren't responding to our phone calls at that time. so that was one of the factors at play. >> officers say, since that time they have been in contact with that family who plans to press charges. they say this video is part of their investigation. fashion police say the contra

costa da's office is likely to receive the case next week. and if a charge is filed, it would likely be misdemeanor battery at this cyo league is run by the oakland diocese who says the incident is unfic quickly, the diablo east league sportsmanship committee is investigate ing and will make recommendations to the league's athletic directors. we do not have a timeline for when the investigation will be completed due to the thanksgiving holiday. j.r. stone, abc seven news. of course we'll stay on top of that story. >> but now it's time to tackle that holiday travel. both triple a and the tsa are expecting one of the busiest thanksgiving seasons in decades. and storms are brewing back east. so let's start with air travel. you're looking down from our sky seven at how things were earlier today. this is outside san jose. minetta international. tsa is preparing to screen 2.7 million people tomorrow around the country. that would break a thanksgiving holiday record. and

sunday is expected to be the busiest day to return. now as for the roads this holiday, we're checking all the expected freeway hotspots for you tonight. pretty smooth sailing after the usual evening commute, but how about l.a. here's a live look. entering the lax departure terminal where it's not all too bad as winds there tonight have died down a bit, but it is very busy. if you're planning to hit the road or head to the airport tomorrow, you want to do it early for obvious reasons. triple a says the afternoon will be the absolute worst time to travel for the holiday week. and the absolute worst time to travel is tomorrow afternoon. any afternoon this week will be bad though the best time for your thanksgiving travel is before noon. so that's a look at the traffic. what about the weather? meteorologist sandyha patel is here with the forecast whether it will stay dry and clear. sandy >> well, dan, here in california , it's going to remain dry, but other parts of the country, not

so much. so let's take a look at some potential problems. aims and delays. new york, you're looking at rain tomorrow. boston windy with rain, snow over the higher elevations. sunshine in dallas, texas. so you shouldn't have any issues. portland, oregon, some showers. let's look at the national picture live. doppler seven is tracking that storm, bringing snow to new england and heavy rain along the eastern seaboard and all the way down to the southeast. they're looking at wet weather now. all of that will start to push off the coast tomorrow afternoon. you're looking at 56in new york, 58 in d.c. around the central us. you shouldn't have any problems around denver, 68 degrees, 52 in portland, out west, looking good, up and down the state. other than a few showers up in eureka, 58 degrees dry for most of you, except in tahoe, 56, where you have a slight chance of some snow showers, 80 degrees and warm in los angeles. and i'll be back with a look at your thanksgiving forecast for the bay area. plus the weekend coming up.

>> dan, very good, sandhya, thank you. developing news in new york city. law enforcement is on high alert ahead of the upcoming macy's thanksgiving day parade. a new report from the fbi shows the israel-hamas war has created a heightened threat environment that's in quotes that makes the parade an attractive target. the assessment obtained by abc news expressed concern about, quote, lone actors using online platforms to express threats of violence against jewish, muslim and arab communities. the nypd's deputy commissioner says there are currently no specific threats, but the police department will continue partnering with state and federal colleagues to ensure a safe holiday season. but they're definitely on alert in new york now. this time of year, building a better bay area means making the holidays brighter for those in need. so tonight we wanted to devote a little time to highlight those neighbors in our community who are doing their part to help others. abc seven news reporter lauren martinez starts off with the work being done in the south bay.

>> welcome home. are you guys ready for this great feast we're about to have? yeah >> all right. this thanksgiving meal is about celebrating community and a new home. path villas at fourth street in san jose is the newest supportive housing site for people 55 or older who were formerly homeless. patty freedenberg is one of the 94 residents who have moved in since july. >> i walked into my new room upstairs and i burst into tears because i never expected to live . and somewhere like this frydenberg's career as a bakery manager was cut short by health issues, including seizures from couch surfing to shelters. >> freedenberg said moving to path was a life changer. the difference in the anxiety and stress and all the noise and the fighting, all the trouble, all the fear all the time has been has been really rough. >> so coming here, it's like, man, i am sleeping like a baby. i don't take any anxiety meds anymore. >> this holiday dinner was organized by a local church named sparc mayor matt mehan and his family helped serve meals.

on tuesday evening. he said path, a nonprofit that helps people statewide find permanent housing and case management, has been a phenomenal partner with the county. >> we have to show people that we're using their tax dollars well and that these investments work. they help people get off the streets, turn their lives around, lead dignified, productive lives. >> resident duane hall said he was evicted from his home four years ago after his rent increased from motel to tiny homes. he's happy to be here. >> this great conversation. you know, everybody that i have met here has been kind, you know, gentleman to me. you know, this is a place that is full of community and love and support. >> mehan said it was special. he could show his kids why helping the community matters. residents were grateful they could connect with their neighbors. >> i think it brings us all together. it makes us all feel more like family and that comfort that we all need, especially this time of year in san jose. >> lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> really nice night there and our next abc seven building a better bay area breakthrough

takes you to contra costa county. that's where volunteers handed out all the ingredients for a thanksgiving feast this evening. antioch mayor lamar thorpe hosted a food giveaway that included turkeys, canned goods, grocery bags filled with all the usual holiday fixings. it was organized to provide some relief to bay area families feeling the pressure of high food and rent costs. and our final abc seven building a better bay area breakthrough is in the north bay where a new program is helping low income families cope with rising utility bills. free energy saving kits are being sent to low income families who fill out a survey. it's a program spearheaded by north marin community services. >> a lot of different things that come in this package depending on the survey that you complete, you'll have more light bulbs or different kind of light bulbs. if you have, for example, a garden or if you have some lights outside of your house that need a specific light bulb, that's what's going to be sent

on your behalf. >> and with that, representative anna eschew announces her upcoming retirement after more than three decades in congress. and now it sets off a hotly contested race to become the next us representative for a portion of silicon valley, california's 16th congressional district seat has not been open since 1992, but it encompasses a powerful portion of the bay area . abc7 news reporter tim john spoke with some potential candidates about their plans to fill some big shoes after serving her district for over three decades. >> south bay congressman anna eshoo announcing tuesday she'll be retiring next year. >> i have commuted across the country every single week for 31 years, immediately following the announcement, messages of support from around the bay area came flooding in for eshoo, who's known for her work in areas including technology and health care. >> she's been a mentor to many young people in the bay area, and i probably wouldn't have

been in congress if it weren't for her mentorship as issues. >> retirement is part of a growing wave of long serving bay area politicians who are either stepping down or moving on from their positions for one reason or another. that's allowing for fresh new faces to fill these roles. for the first time in years. traditionally, opportunities to replace local members of congress don't come around often. it's been about 20 years since the south bay seat was last up for grabs. >> everyone says, let's bring in younger people. new blood, keep it flowing. but in washington, the rules are the longer you're there, the higher you go up the staircase to power. >> state assembly member evan low says he'll consider the possibility of running for a seat over the thanks giving holiday. he tells me it's important for whoever the new representative is to understand the day to day lives of local families, to understand the struggles of what it's like not being able to afford a home in the community that we live and represent. >> what it's like to have the challenges of food insecurity.

>> state senator josh becker is another person who says he'd think about running for issues position. becker believes that although losing long serving people like hsu can be difficult for the state, having new people replace her also has its benefits. >> i think you look at the caliber of people that were electing and they're very high caliber. they've had tremendous experience. >> as for seiu, she says, although she's got a lot to accomplish before she retires, she's looking forward to what that time will bring. >> my life is filled with half dues. i have to do this. i have to do that. i have to set up a appointments so i can make sure i can have dinner sometimes with my family, voters will choose ashes replacement next fall in silicon valley. >> tim johns, abc seven news. >> and oakland restaurant owner is angry tonight about being targeted first by vandals, then apparently by arson. horn barbecue on mandela parkway was in flames when firefighters arrived. just after 4:00 this morning. the fire destroyed the

kitchen. it happened just one day after the owner took to instagram and blasted people who tagged the building under audibly. frustrated matt horn spoke with abc seven news about he and other small businesses that are fed up with being victimized. >> i hear a lot of people say, well, you know, welcome to oakland. this is oakland. no business owner should have to deal with having their business and having their property destroyed. this breaks my heart. it really does it and it's tough. yeah >> investigators are looking at surveillance footage for leads. horn says his employees will keep working full time hours at his two other restaurants in oakland. you know, we see it every year. fire officials putting out a major warning about turkey cooking techniques, but it always bears repeating. sacramento fire officials led their annual demonstration today showing what could happen if you don't use safe methods. thanksgiving of course, just a couple of days away. and experts say cooking fires are the leading cause of house fires. officials recommend frying your

turkey outside wide and avoid overfilling your pot with oil so you don't have a disaster. all right. another ski resort is back open in the sierra in time for thanksgiving. skiers and boarders got in the first runs of the season today at heavenly mountain. smooth travels, obviously no chain controls, no traffic. >> this morning i woke up around six and got here, around 930 and i spent the whole day here. so i wrote bell to bell. >> and so you're going to get up tomorrow and be on the slopes again. >> it's going to ski it all, as we say. and so they call me all day. anthony all day. >> anthony having a good time. more resorts are expected to open in the coming days, including palisades, tahoe, north star, sugar bowl and soda springs. i hope they're all having as much fun as all day. anthony up in tahoe. all right. meteorologist sandyha patel is tracking the weather up in the mountains as well. sandy. >> yeah, that's a cute name, huh? dan we definitely are going to see some nice weather up in

the mountains, guys. hopefully you have a great time if you are going up. so let's take a look at the forecast for tahoe. really is just going to be beautiful. a slight chance of some snow and rain tomorrow night. snow level will be around 7000ft. better chance on thanksgiving of some mixed precept. certainly will be lowering snow level around 6500ft. and you will notice that friday and saturday are dry day but cold. i mean, we're talking teens, 5018 degrees on friday and saturday, ten degrees, 43 for the high tahoe valley airport. right now, 27 degrees as we check out some live views from our tower cameras, you'll see how beautiful it is outside, pretty much dealing with fair condition as a few high clouds passing through here. and that's about it. so let's talk thanksgiving. the forecast looks fantastic in the morning. it's going to be a crisp start. temperatures in the mid to upper 40s at noontime. it's going to be mild and sunny and breezy in the hills, but not too windy. we are looking at a warmer afternoon with upper 50s to the

low 70s. so you really couldn't ask for better weather as we check out that live picture from our pier 39 camera, you will notice how calm, how serene it is looking at that ferris wheel out there. all right. let's take a look at what's happening in the atmosphere. high pressure was in control of our weather today. it's going to remain in control. but a system is passing to our north. and what's going to happen is we're just going to see some extra clouds out of it. we saw some high clouds ahead of it today and we are still dealing with some of those. but skies are clearing to the north and those temperatures are dropping. you will need that extra blanket on the bed tonight or turn up the heat. temperatures are in the 40s and the 50s, but you can feel that chill. sutro tower camera looking at downtown san francisco tonight. sun and high clouds tomorrow and sunny for the holiday. it will be breezy in the hills on thanksgiving with colder nights and cooler days this weekend we are talking about temperatures dropping down to the 30s this weekend with frost perhaps the coldest we've

seen since spring. as we go hour by hour, 5:00 tomorrow morning, you'll see those high clouds up to the north. a few light showers with that weak trough passing through for the rest of us, though, we're just going to see the filtered sunshine throughout the afternoon. your morning temperatures mid 30s to low 50s bundle up in the morning. it will be a cold one tomorrow afternoon, mid 60s to low 70s. a nice looking wednesday and as we take a sneak peek of thursday, look how warm it is. i mean, this is november and we're talking about some 70s in the picture. so really nice looking weather. the storm track all the way through sunday is going to remain well to the north. other than the snow showers in the sierra on thanksgiving, there's no rain or snow to speak of out west. so here's a look at the accuweather 70 forecast and it is a mix of sun and clouds. tomorrow dry and warmer for thanksgiving. looking at dry conditions for shoppers and colder mornings cooler days for your weekend and keeping it below average for your afternoon

it's one of those games where every single play matters. every everybody has to be paying attention to detail because if not you'll slip up and it won't be pretty. >> we've seen shots of injured jets quarterback aaron rodgers throwing on the sidelines today. he told espn's pat mcafee he's already jogging on a treadmill and hopes to return to practice within three weeks. this is unreal. consider he's 39 years old. he tore his achilles just a couple of months ago. that's usually a year plus of rehab and return to play the jets need rodgers. they just benched zach wilson. they're going with a third string quarterback but i don't know how he can come back and play. niners fans were hoping that the chiefs would beat the eagles last night, but philly just keeps on winning. 2117 they're now nine and one leading the niners by two games in the fight for nfc home field advantage niners did not get the result they wanted but espn and abc sure did. it was the most watched monday night football game since 1996 with 29 million viewers coming off of their first win in two weeks. the warriors hoping to build a winning streak starting tomorrow
