new karate kid movie kicking its way to the box office from news in new york. >> this is america. >> this morning. >> a very good wednesday morning to you. i'm lionel moise, in for andrew. >> and i'm alison kosik in for rihanna. and we'll have the latest on that hostage deal in the mideast in just a moment. but first, let's get to the weather. >> today, as you know, is one of the busiest travel days of the year. millions in the eastern us could face delays, though, because of rain and snow. it'll be drying out in new york city later this morning. but parts of new england could see heavy rain and several inches of snow. >> and in the south, a tornado was reported last night, but we begin in texas with a crash investigation overnight this morning, authorities in texas are investigating what caused a plane to crash at this shopping center. surveillance video shows the moments after the single engine plane went down in plano, crashing just feet from a diner and a nail salon.

>> the fire resulting from the crash did involve an unoccupied parked vehicle. sources tell our dallas station the pilot, the only person on board, did not survive the tornado. >> on the ground, it comes as severe weather disrupts holiday air travel in other parts of the country. this damage from a reported tornado in alabama. in georgia, strong wind gusts made for a rocky landing for passengers on this plane in atlanta. >> and it was it was pretty bad. >> and then coming in the landing was rough. >> really rough. yeah, it was really rough. >> and overnight snow in upstate new york and new england for air travelers. one analysis found frontier, jetblue and southwest airlines are most likely to experience flight delays during the holidays. those least prone to delays. delta and hawaiian airlines, far more americans are hitting the roads. many facing heavy rain from florida to new york. >> i got a chance to fly right over that storm, feel the

turbulence and then see the roads. and yes, the storm is disruptive. i-95 is not great. from washington, d.c. to philadelphia, new york city still raining until about 7 a.m. today. >> drivers in major metro areas are expected to see average travel times up to 80% longer than usual. for some, it's already been a rough ride. >> for 45 minutes we've been in. >> traffic was stopped. it was terrible. it was it took forever. >> some parts of new hampshire and maine could get six inches of snow elsewhere. most of the midwest and the west are dry. we'll take a closer look at your forecast in just a few moments. >> the other big story this morning, a deal to free dozens of hostages held by hamas since the terror group's attack on israel last month. and americans are believed to be among the hostages being released. abc's liz landers has those overnight details for us. liz, good morning, lionel. >> after more than six weeks in captivity, an imminent release for some of the hostages is being held by hamas. since the

october 7th attack on israel this morning, a breakthrough for the hundreds of hostages being held in gaza as israel and hamas strike a deal for a truce agreement that will bring a temporary ceasefire to the conflict. qatar the small nation that helped broker the deal, announced in a statement. the start of the humanitarian truce will begin within 24 hours and will continue for four days, subject to extension an 50 women and children prisoners in gaza will be released in exchange for 150 palestine prisoners, according to us and israeli officials. the deal could also account for later hostages released as well, and will also include the passage of humanitarian convoys and fuel into gaza. after the israeli war cabinet met to approve the deal, prime minister netanyahu, his office, said their government will continue to fight for the elimination of hamas and president biden saying in a statement he welcomes the deal and is grateful that hostages

who, quote, endured weeks of captivity and an unspeakable ordeal will be reunited with their families once this deal is fully implemented. and the war has claimed the lives of more than 14,000 palestine, according to the hamas run gaza health ministry, around 240 hostages have been held in gaza since october 7th, including a handful of americans and the youngest american hostage, three year old abigail adan is expected to be among those released. one of her relatives, noah naphtali, told me last week of abigail. abigail is a spunky little girl. i want abigail to know that her brother , her sister, her aunts and uncles and her grandparents are waiting for her at home. some of the family members of those hostages were in washington, dc last week for that march for israel. and they also met with lawmakers and the biden administration's top hostage negotiator as they've been advocating for the release of their loved ones. lionel. >> all right. progress thank you so much, liz. the us has once

again retaliated against militants in the middle east by conducting airstrikes in iraq. the pentagon says fighters supported by iran launched a missile attack, injuring eight americans on a base in iraq. a us gunship then fired at the militants, reportedly killing some of them. it's the latest in a series of what officials call self-defense strikes. us forces have been attacked more than 65 times in iraq and syria since last month. at least 70 americans have been injured. >> north korea claims to have launched its first spy satellite into orbit. the government says these photos here show kim jong un watching the launch. if the satellite works, analysts say it could provide a major boost to north korea's military. in response, south korea says it's suspending part of a military agreement it signed with the north five years ago. search efforts resumed today in southeastern alaska after a deadly landslide. >> three people were killed and three others are missing after heavy rain triggered this landslide, destroying multiple

homes near the town of wrangell. children are among the missing. the landslide was 450ft wide. officials are warning that area remains unstable. all one of the biggest first signs that people need to be listening for are noises like rumbling trees cracking, boulders knocking, especially if that noise starts as a faint noise and gets louder and louder and louder. farther north, near anchorage, residents face more snow after blizzard conditions this week in the race for the white house, florida governor ron desantis just got another boost in iowa. >> he picked up the endorsement of evangelical leader bob vander plaats, known as the state's gop kingmaker. this follows iowa governor kim reynolds decision to back desantis despite donald trump's wide lead in the polls. >> now to another major scandal in the world of digital currency. another crypto kingpin has been toppled. his company fined billions of dollars,

accused of helping criminals, rogue nations, even middle east terrorists. here's abc's andrea fujii. >> this morning, another major blow to the cryptocurrency industry as the leader of the world's largest crypto exchange pleads guilty to multiple us violations. >> actions including money laundering, should see the ceo step down and the company and the ceo charged criminally is a very big deal. >> crypto is digital currency exchange through computer networks without relying on banks. in this case, the feds accused binance and its ceo, changpeng zhao, of processing more than 100,000 transactions by child abusers. cyber criminals and even terrorists, including hamas. >> it's very likely that, you know, crypto was used and funded. hamas and they use some of that money to perpetrate the attacks. >> binance is also accused of profiting off transactions with sanctioned countries, including iran. >> these laws ensure that our financial institutions are not available to designated

terrorist organizations. >> zhao has agreed to pay more than $4 billion in fines and stepped down as ceo and binance will no longer do business within the us. it comes just months after the collapse of binance former rival ftx, whose founder sam bankman-fried, was convicted of fraud and stealing $10 billion. >> these scandals rocking the crypto world. but many experts believe the industry will get back on its feet. >> there's also a lot of good people in the industry who are trying to turn the page and move on. >> us customers who had money in binance will have to wait for a lawsuit to be resolved to see what happens to their assets. the former ceo will be sentenced in february, facing up to 18 months in prison. lionel allison andrea, thank you. >> breaking overnight, the man known as the artificial intelligence whiz kid is headed back to openai. the company's board fired sam altman as ceo last week, reportedly due to

morning on good morning america. >> new video shows some of the 41 construction workers trapped inside a collapsed highway tunnel in india for the last 11 days. they just enjoyed their first hot meals, which were sent through a pipe. rescuers need to dig another 300ft to reach the workers. that could take several more days. >> as the son of the south carolina court clerk involved in alec murdoch's double murder trial has been arrested. jeffrey colton hill is the county's technology director. officials have not confirmed the charge against him, but murdoch's lawyers have accused his mother, becky hill, of jury tampering.

she wrote a book about the case. her phone has also reportedly been seized in connection with the investigation into her son. >> we turn now to the serious illness. getting more dogs sick. some are even dying. this morning, a mysterious respiratory illness is affecting more dogs across the country. >> she continued to have that like dry hacking cough. and it just kind of progressed from there. >> lauren zelaya of north carolina noticed her german shepherd. maddie was suffering from what she and her vet thought was kennel cough. >> we were coming back for subsequent visits that second and third time, they're like, yeah, yeah. we're starting to see more of these cases. >> the mysterious disease has symptoms similar to kennel cough , including the cough along with fever, lack of energy and loss of appetite. but vets say this can last for weeks, possibly leading to pneumonia and even death. and it's contagious.
