candidates looking to fill her seat. >> thanksgiving is just a day away. we are keeping an eye on the roads this morning as holiday travelers get moving. >> good morning. welcome to wednesday, november 22nd. yes. >> and lisa is here with us. so i'm understanding that tomorrow will be really nice for the holiday. yes we've been inundated with some of the high clouds and that's going to be with us again today. >> a weak little system heading our way later on tonight, kicking up the winds. but you can see the high clouds there, not doing much to enhance orbit. the mild temperatures, but certainly the solar radiation. so we're not getting a whole lot of sun, but we are looking at still temperatures on the mild side. you can see the partly to mostly cloudy skies to start out. it is 41 in oakland, 38. santa rosa, 39. in nevada with 46. in san jose. so a 24 hour temperature change. you can see the cooler air up in the north bay. those 39 degrees cooler in novato and that blanket of clouds allowing for just a couple of degrees warmer around the south bay and east bay. so we'll stay in the 40s for most

of us inland through 9:00 and then 50 elsewhere by noontime. we're already in the 60s, but we have those high clouds throughout the afternoon, maybe some 70s there in parts of the south bay. we'll talk about thanksgiving. a bright one coming up. jobina >> thank you, lisa. good morning, everybody. so checking in on traffic here. we're starting with the drive times and you can tell a lot of people have the day off or at least staying home because tracy to dublin is only 30 minutes. and overall view of the map and you can see the sensors are hardly lit up in red. but we do have one issue that we're following right now is a brush fire on eastbound 580 at foothill boulevard. so right around dublin. and just be aware that you're seeing some minor delays in that spot. we also want to give you a look at some of the best and worst times to hit the road, though. if you are traveling for the holiday, you're advised to get out the door before two this afternoon and avoid the roads until after 6 p.m. then tomorrow on thanksgiving day, your best bet will be to hit the road before 10 a.m. or after 5 p.m. the worst time to travel will be 11

a.m. to 3 p.m. and bringing you a live look this morning from sfo, tsa is preparing to screen 2.7 million people today. and that would break a thanksgiving day holiday record. sunday is expected to be the busiest day to return israel and hamas have announced a temporary cease fire in order to release hostages. >> abc news reporter liz landers explains the stipulate of that deal this morning, a breakthrough for the hundreds of hostages being held in gaza as israel and hamas strike a deal for a truce agreement that will bring a temporary ceasefire to the conflict. >> qatar, the small nation that helped broker the deal, announced in a statement. the start of the humanitarian truce will begin within 24 hours and will continue for four days. subject to extension 50 women and children. prisoners in gaza will be released in exchange for 150 palestinian prisoners, according to us and israeli officials. the deal could also account for later hostages released as well and will also

include the passage of humanitarian convoys and fuel into gaza after the israeli war cabinet met to approve the deal, prime minister netanyahu's office said their government will continue to fight for the elimination of hamas. and president biden saying in a statement he welcomes the deal and is grateful that hostages who, quote, endured weeks of captivity and an unspeakable ordeal will be reunited with their families once this deal is fully implemented. and the war has claimed the lives of more than 14,000 palestinians, according to the hamas run gaza health ministry, around 240 hostages have been held in gaza since october 7th, including a handful of americans and the youngest american hostage, three year old abigail adan is expected to be among those release. but one of her relatives, noah naftali, told me last week of abigail. abigail is a spunky little girl. >> i want abigail to know that her brother, her sister, her aunts and uncles and her

grandparents are waiting for her at home. some of the families of those hostages were in washington, dc last week for that rally for israel. >> they also met with lawmakers and the biden administration. iran's top hostage negotiator, for as they've been advocating for the release of their loved ones in washington, liz landers, abc news in new york city, law enforcement say they are on high alert ahead of the upcoming macy's thanksgiving day parade. >> a new report from the fbi shows the israel-hamas war has created a heightened threat environment that makes the parade an attractive target. the assessment, obtained by abc news , expressed concern about, quote, lone actors using online platforms to express threats of violence against jewish, muslim and arab communities. the nypd's deputy commissioner says there are currently no specific threats, but the police department will continue partnering with state and federal colleagues to ensure a safe holiday season. >> it's like a new hit soap opera. okay and this one we're going to call open sky. last friday, the company fired ceo

sam altman, but this morning, altman is back as ceo and it's the board that's being shaken up, all while more than 700 employees threaten to quit if this didn't happen. on abc seven news reporter ryan curry is live at our headquarters this morning with all the drama for us. ryan had jobina. >> good morning. the company posting on x saying they have reached an agreement to have altman return as ceo as well as a an almost entirely new board. a lot of shakeups going on with one of the companies based here in san francisco open the eyes. previous board of directors had refused to give specific reasons for why it fired altman in the first place. there were disputes between the two sides about the safety risks of artificial intelligence as it gets more advanced. microsoft that invested billions into openai and once altman was originally fired, they moved quickly to hire him for their ai project at around 700 employees, has threatened to leave the company if altman was not reinstated.

and microsoft ceo satya nadella said those employees, they would be hired as microsoft, he said in a statement on xt. we are encouraged by the changes to open ai to the open ai board. we believe this is a first essential step on a path to more stable, well informed and effective governance, he went on to mention he is excited about building on the partnership between two sides, but a very long saga over the last couple of days that resulted in altman now being back as ceo for openai . we're live in san francisco. ryan curry, abc seven news as the first woman and the first democrat to ever represent our district. >> i'm very proud of the body of bypass design work i've been able to achieve on your behalf. >> and with that, representative anna announces her upcoming retirement. after more than three decades in congress. that announcement sets off a hotly contested race to become the next us representative for a portion of silicon valley. a

powerful part of the bay area, california's 16th congressional district seat has not been open since 1992. abc seven news reporter tim john spoke with some potential candidates about their plans with some pretty big shoes to fill after serving her district for over three decades. >> south bay congresswoman anna eshoo announcing tuesday she'll be retiring next year. >> i have commuted across the country every single week for 31 years, immediately following the announcement, messages of support from around the bay area came flooding in for seiu, who's known for her work in areas including technology and health care. >> she's been a mentor to many young people in the bay area, and i probably wouldn't have been in congress if it weren't for her mentorship as she retired is part of a growing wave of long serving bay area politicians who are either stepping down or moving on from their positions for one reason or another. >> that's allowing for fresh new faces to fill these roles. for the first time in years.

traditionally, opportunities to replace local members of congress don't come around often. it's been about 20 years since the south bay seat was last up for grabs. >> everyone says, let's bring in younger people. new blood, keep it flowing. but in washington, the rules are the longer you're there, the higher you go up the staircase to power. >> state assembly member evan low says he'll consider the possibility of running for a seat over the thanksgiving holiday. he tells me it's important for whoever the new representative is to understand the day to day lives of local families, to understand the struggles of what it's like not being able to afford a home in the community that we live and represent. >> what it's like to have the challenges of food insecurity. >> state senator josh becker is another person who says he'd think about running for issues position. becker believes that although losing long serving people like hsu can be difficult for the state, having new people replace her also has its benefits. >> i think you look at the caliber of people that were elected and they're very high caliber for they've had

degrees? san ramon in dublin, as well as walnut creek. closer to the bay, a cool 41 in oakland, 50 san francisco in the 30s here up to the north, 50 in pacifica. so we are looking at sun and high clouds today. brighter for thanksgiving and beyond. but then winds get quite breezy throughout the later day on thursday and friday and then looking at some pretty chilly nights. in fact, it looks like saturday morning could be the coldest morning as we go through the next several hours. there are all those high clouds once again and then they get just swept out of town throughout the day tomorrow. and that's going to allow for one of the warmest days of the week to be the holiday on thanksgiving highs today, 67. san francisco, the high clouds all around the bay, upper 60s in fremont, 72, in san jose. so despite that, pretty mild conditions and then in particular for thanksgiving, waking up to the cool readings in the 40s upper 40s, bay and coast upper 60s to low 70s with mostly sunny skies and the

she ends up on top of this kid and, um, that that looks troubling to me. it's up to the district attorney's office. they are the lawyers. they ultimately make the decision on the contra costa county da's office is likely to receive the case next week. >> if a charge is filed, officers say it would likely be misdemeanor. misdemeanor battery and oakland restaurant owner first expressing his anger to us about being targeted by vandals is now apparently experienced. >> this experience seeing this issue. but with an arsonist. this was an awful situation yesterday. and barbecue on mandela parkway was up in flames when firefighters arrived early yesterday morning. the kitchen destroyed or i should say the kitchen is destroyed. and it happened just one day after the owner took to instagram and blasted people who tagged the building. understandably frustrated. matt horne spoke with abc seven news saying he and other local businesses are fed up with being victimized.

>> i hear a lot of people say, well, you know, welcome to oakland. this is oakland. no business owners should have to deal with having their business and having their property destroyed. this breaks my heart. it really does. and it's tough. yeah >> investigators are looking at surveillance footage for leads. horne says his employees will keep working full time hours at his two other restaurants in oakland. >> i hate to see that a popular san francisco ice cream shop that was vandalized in what police are investigating is a hate crime is now back open and the owner is hoping to spread love to men. smashed the windows of jewish owned smitten in the mission district last month. they spray painted free palestine and out the mission on the building. with help from the community. the owner raised more than $100,000 for repairs. new security measures and to continue paying staff. while the shop was closed for a month for the reopening, the owner rolled out a new flavor. and it's called i choose love. >> this story opening is a

symbol of us coming together in a symbol of the strength of the love in this community. >> the store is also selling special t shirts and sweatshirts that say in the spirit of ice cream, i choose love. proceeds will benefit the courage museum. um, few details this morning about the flooded san francisco high rise that displaced residents at 33 tahoma. >> they'll have to wait even longer to return. now according to the san francisco chronicle, the building's owner sent a message to residents saying they can't return this year due to unfinished repairs. more than 400 tenants were displaced when the 35 unit building flooded back in june of 2022. they were first promised to return by the fall of last year, but that was pushed back to the second half of this year. >> san jose is kicking off its christmas celebrations this week with a forest of lights enchant christmas is returning for a second year at paypal park. it's ten acres of holiday lights, which include some pretty amazing light sculptures and

the temperature was despite some of the clouds, we are still chilly out there with some upper 30s from san ramon in dublin and walnut creek 42 though in martinez. as you get closer to the water here and we've got those low 40s with 46 in san jose it's 50 downtown town and once those clouds clear on out it's going to be a couple of chilly mornings if you are traveling or have people traveling the northeast is rainy this morning around boston, but those rain showers will be pushing on out and left with 40s and 50s for today. a little bit of rain up to the pacific northwest with those chilly temperatures and closer to home, we're looking at the high clouds for the northern and central part of the state here. yosemite, though, 71 degrees. looking at the warmth in southern california, sunnier there. and we certainly will see not only the mild weather hold on, but as a system moves on through, we'll get brighter here as well behind that system moving through, we've got winds to contend with by the afternoon

tomorrow. so upper elevations and the hills will be looking at those gusty winds and then even into the over the late hours thursday evening, taking a walk out there. you'll notice that if you're anywhere above 1000ft, it gets quite gusty, 37 miles an hour. geyserville calistoga and then into for the overnight hours into friday. we're still holding on to those breezy to gusty winds north and east bay hills and breezy as well at the coast. so looking at lighter winds and then those colder mornings come our way into the upcoming holiday weekend. so 70 for you in the south bay. cupertino santa clara. and then notice the cooling trend as we go through the weekend into next week. we're still dry, though, 69 in fremont, 67 in vallejo and looking at the accuweather seven day forecast the warmest day we're holding that for tomorrow and then the cooler days but dry days ahead back to you guys. >> thank you lisa. good morning, everybody. we're starting here with a live picture from the richmond-san rafael bridge where we are in week seven of this

traffic. tsa is preparing to screen 2.7 million people today and if you're driving, your advice to get out the door before two this afternoon on some of the bay area's most charitable organizations are helping cities get into the holiday spirit of giving. >> saint anthony foundation hosted its second annual giving thanks on golden gate block party hot chocolate holiday cookies, balloon animals were all handed out to the hundreds who came out to enjoy the celebration. the event doubled as a holiday giveaway, with volunteers passing out warm winter gear and hygiene kits to those who need it. >> we really wanted to do something where we could connect one on one with those in need, with guests. so we came up with the giving things on golden gate block party long time former house speaker in san francisco represented nancy pelosi and the giants mascot got lucille. >> we're both out there. where is lucy? there he is. during yesterday's celebration, lucille will find a camera. >> absolutely. and give you some moves to lucille, said get out of the way. >> turkey. i'm the only mascot

at this celebration. >> i love how the shades are on, like the bridge of the nose. isn't that great? >> lucille honestly is the best. >> giving us a look. thank you, lucille. in the east bay. the bay area rescue mission hosted its annual box of hope turkey dinner giveaway in richmond. volunteers helped distribute free holiday dinners to 500 families in need of food assistance in the bay area. rescue mission has served or has been serving impoverished families in the bay area for 58 years. on the peninsula, samaritan house had its holiday food held its holiday food distribution, many in need. >> in san mateo county were able to get a free turkey dinner, the addition to in addition to what was handed out. samaritan house also serves more than 1000 thanksgiving meals to community centers, senior centers and people who are homebound. they'll do another meal distribution before christmas. and this is all possible because of community donations. this thanksgiving, the san francisco 40 niners hope to be feasting on a bird but it isn't a turkey coming up at 530. a look ahead at their thanksgiving day
