10 a.m. or after 5 p.m. the worst time to travel will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and let's check out a live look from sfo. right now, the tsa is preparing to screen 2.7 million people today. sunday is expected to be the busiest day to return. and altogether, this week, it's expected to be a record breaking thanksgiving holiday travel week. we have major developments in the conflict in the middle east. >> israel and hamas have announced a temporary cease fire in order to release hostages held by hamas. qatar, the nation that helped broker this deal, release details of the humanity korean truce. it will begin within 24 hours and continue for four days, according to us and israeli officials. 50 women and children, prisoners in gaza will be released in exchange for 150 palestinian prisoners. around 240 hostages have been held in gaza since october 7th, including some americans. is the youngest american hostage is three year old abigail oden. she's expected to be among those

set free. abigail is a spunky little girl. >> i want abigail to know that her brother, her sister, her aunts and uncles and her grandparents are waiting for her at home. >> some families of those hostages met with the biden administration's top hostage negotiator as they advocated for the release of their loved ones. it feels like we're in episode three of this wild soap opera right now, a reversal of fortune for sam altman. >> this morning, he's back as ceo of san francisco based openai ii, less than a week after getting fired and hundreds of employees starting to quit, the board is now in flux. abc7 news reporter ryan curry live this morning with all of those developments for us. ryan yeah, just a really another crazy chapter in this ongoing saga after everything that has already transpired. >> he is now back as ceo of openai. the company posting on x saying he will return to his current position as well as a new board will be taking place.

the company saying on on x that the previous board of directors had refused to give any sort of specific reasons as to why he was fired in the first place. there were disputes between the two sides about the safety of ai and what that would do once it starts to advance. microsoft investing billions into openai. and once altman was originally fired, they moved quickly to hire him for their ai project. also around 700 employees threatened to leave openai if altman was not reinstated and microsoft ceo satya nadella said he would hire those employees if they left openai he posted on x saying, we are encouraged by the changes to the openai board. we believe this is the first essential step on a path to more stable, well informed and effective governance. he went on to mention he is excited about building their partnership, their current relationship. we know he's invested billions into the openai project and that company that is based here in san francisco. but yeah, just

another crazy saga and what has been a really crazy few days where you left out his position as ceo and now he is back at his position as ceo after so much has unfolded over the last few days. we're live in san francisco, ryan curry, abc seven news as the first woman and the first democrat to ever represent our district. >> i'm very proud of the body of bypasses can work. i've been able to achieve on your behalf and with that, representative anna eshoo announces her upcoming retirement after more than three decades in congress, the 80 year old has represented the south bay since being elected in 1992. >> during her tenure, 66 of her bills have passed and were signed by five different presidents. >> we spoke to our abc7 news insider phil matier about congresswoman askew's decision during our 3 p.m. show getting answers yesterday. >> and you know, i would say of the bay area congressional delegation, she is probably one of the least assuming she's

rarely in front of the cameras. she tended to do most of her work behind the scenes. and in washington, she was very big on the health issues and bringing us affordable health care under president obama, she was big on tech issues, which is understandable since her district included silicon valley . >> bill says we should expect a lot of competition for her seat. >> new developments from the east bay on a story we brought you just yesterday. concord police say the district attorney will now decide if the parent who went after a youth basketball player during a game will be charged. concord pd told abc7 that video evidence showing the elements of the alleged crime were not initially available to their investigators. now police say that's a decision being revisit. >> kid when i look at the video, it's troubling. you know, you see the woman run onto the court and she ends up on top of this kid and that's that that looks troubling to me. it's up to the district attorney's office. they are the lawyers and they ultimately make the decision.

>> the contra costa county da's office is likely to receive the case next week if a charge is filed, officers say it would likely be misdemeanor battery. >> happening today, street vendors in san francisco's mission district are speaking out against the impending vendor ban. the ban is set to start on november 27th. organizers with the mission street vendors association are calling on supervisor hillary ronen to postpone the restrictions. they hope to delay the ban until january 1st. many of the city's licensed street vendors are worried about making a living when it takes effect. if you're shopping in union square on black friday, you'll likely notice a heavy police presence. >> san francisco police will deploy more officers there and in other key shopping districts to deter crime. that's according to our media partners at the san francisco standard high profile theft in recent years has scared off many shoppers from going to union square, including smash and grab burglaries during the 2021 holiday season. the silicon here spreading the love, a local

arsonist or in barbecue on mandela parkway was in flames when firefighters arrived early yesterday morning. the kitchen is destroyed inside now. the fire happened just one day after the owner took to instagram and blasted people who tagged the building. understandably frustrated. matt horne spoke with abc7 news saying he and other local business owners are fed up with being victimized. >> i hear a lot of people say, well, you know, welcome to oakland, this is oakland. no business owners should have to deal with having their business and having their property destroyed. this breaks my heart.

it really does. and it's tough to investigate. >> owners are looking at surveillance footage for leads. horne says his employees will keep working full time hours at his two other restaurants in oakland, a popular san francisco ice cream shop that was vandalized. and what police are investigating as a hate crime is now back open and the owner is spreading love. two men smashed the windows of jewish owned smitten in the mission district last month. they spray painted free palestine and out the mission on it with the help from the community, the owner raised more than $100,000 for repairs as new security measures and to continue paying staff while the shop was closed for a month for the reopening, the owner rolled out a new flavor called i choose love. >> the store reopening is a symbol of us coming together in a symbol of the strength of the love in this community. >> the store is also selling

special t shirts and sweatshirts that say in the spirit of ice cream, i choose love. proceeds will benefit the courage museum. new details this morning about the flooded san francisco high rise that displaced residents at 33 tehama. they're going to have to wait even longer to return to their homes. unfortunately, according to the san francisco chronicle, the buildings owner sent a message to residents saying they can't return this year due to unfinished repairs. more than 400 tenants were displaced when the 35 unit building flooded back in june of 2022. they were first promised to return by fall of last year, but that was pushed back to the second half of this year, giving thanks courtesy of one of the bay area's most charitable organizations, saint anthony foundation hosted its second annual giving thanks on golden gate block party, hot chocolate holiday cookies and balloon animals were all handed out to the hundreds who came to celebrate this event. >> it doubled as a holiday

boston and new england later on. and then maybe eight inches of snow for maine. otherwise, some wet weather for parts of the gulf coast. and we're looking at maybe eight inches of snow or a foot around wyoming. the plains there, as this system heads into the middle of the country. but as for california, the golden state, we are looking dry and warm. southern california, how about 80 degrees in los angeles? san diego, 76. but they'll have brighter conditions today as we see the high clouds, the mid-level clouds, 71 in yosemite. as for temperatures a little bit above average, 72. in san jose, 67 in napa for thanksgiving, waking up to a few clouds, but then bright and sunny. so that'll allow for temperatures to warm up back into the upper 70s, although so it'll be breezy north and east bay hills looking at those gusty winds, offshore winds temporarily and the accuweather seven day forecast, we're featuring the mild weather today, the high clouds warmer on thursday for the holiday and then behind that system, a much

microsoft or microsoft was ready to hire him and hundreds of other employees. but now he's going back to open a altman. and the board had reportedly had disputes over safety when it comes to artificial intelligence as it became more advanced, though it wasn't clear what the specific reason was. they fired altman. the board was very quiet about that following his firing. microsoft, who invested billions into openai, was ready to hire altman and their ai for their ai project, and also about 700 employees were ready to follow him if the board did not resign and reinstate altman. microsoft ceo satya nadella says they were ready to hire all of them. now a new board is ready to take charge and altman is coming back as the company's chief executive. altman posted on ex, saying it was clear that this was the best path, best path for me and the team with the new board and with satya support, i'm looking forward to returning to openai and building on our strong partnership partnership

clear using new technology to break the law does not make you a disruptor. it makes you a criminal. >> zhao has agreed to pay more than $4 billion in fines and stepped down as ceo. he will be sentenced in february and faces up to 18 months in prison. >> a former san jose police officer who sent racist text messages has been decertified. and according to the california commission on peace officer standards and training website mark mcnamara, certification is under temporary suspension. mcnamara resigned earlier this month after an internal investigation uncovered the messages. the santa clara county da is also reviewing cases involving mcnamara. that includes the controversial shooting in downtown san jose when he shot keegan green. green had disarmed a gunman in a restaurant and was backing out of it when he was shot, suffering major injuries in the south bay. >> health officials say they're seeing a rapid surge in rsv

cases and flu like illnesses. santa clara county is using wastewater data to track illnesses. it's similar to how many health departments kept tabs on covid. so we're definitely knowing thing that this is pretty dramatic rise in rsv and what we're seeing is that rsv wastewater has doubled in the last week in the palo alto, sunnyvale and gilroy sewer sheds and it doubled in the san jose sewer shed over the last month. young children and adults age 60 and over are being urged to get vaccinated. there's a shortage of vaccines for infants , but if the vaccine is administered during pregnancy, babies will have some protection when they're born. >> our project to protect monterey county from major flooding is taking a step forward. an agreement was just signed to fund a reconstructed levee system for the pajaro river the back in march. the entire town had to evacuate when the levee broke, and now the us army corps of engineers and the regional flood management agency has signed an agreement to move

forward with a nearly $600 million fix. crews will build ten foot a ten foot setback and restack a 110 acres of historic floodplain. that work is set to start in the summer in the north bay. >> a new program is helping low income families deal with rising utility bills. north marin community services has partnered with other nonprofits to give out energy and water saving devices. in january, monthly p-g-and-e's bills will jump more than 10. some marin water bills have spiked nearly 20% since the summer after approved rate increases. >> my bill is high and the house where i live is comfortable. but it's cold and i'm a senior. >> families are living too close to the edge where one crisis is going to impact them and affect whether or not they're going to be able to pay their p-g-and-e's, whether or not they're going to be able to put food on the table. >> low income families who want a free kit just need to fill out a survey. if you're still planning your thanksgiving menu, you want to pay attention to this story.

thanksgiving. so the sacramento fire department really wants you to be aware of all this. they led. their annual demonstration showing what could happen if you don't use safe methods when cooking, especially that turkey. experts say cooking fires are the leading cause of house fires . officials recommend frying your turkey outside and avoid overfilling your pot with oil. >> no matter the holiday dogs love to get those table scraps, but vets are warning you that some of the most popular thanksgiving dishes are actually very bad for your pups. the american kennel club created a list of foods toxic for dogs. i don't know why this dog's being dragged by the leash, but okay. also don't do that. it includes turkey bones, skin and gravy, ham stuffing and pumpkin pie.
