live picture from our exploratory zoom camera. hopefully you are enjoying the holiday all decked out the embarcadero center right now. let's check out those temperatures for today. it sure didn't feel like november. many areas got up into the low 70s from san jose to redwood city to santa rosa, 73in napa, 72 degrees in concord, 71 in livermore. it was in the 60s in places like san francisco. so let's go hour by hour tonight. if you are stepping out temperatures in the 50s at 7 p.m. later on this evening, those numbers will come down. but it's not going to be dramatic immediately because those winds are coming up as we head into 6 a.m. temperatures is in the 30s and the 40s and later in the afternoon will bump you up into the 60s. but certainly a cooler day than today. i'll be back to tell you about the winds, the chill and the possibility of rain. don stay tuned. >> all right. we will. sandhya, thank you. >> three, two, one, go.

thousands ran through the streets of san jose today at the 19th annual silicon valley turkey trot. >> this five, k, ten, k and kids fun run raises money for charity . over 18 years more than $11 million has been raised. and now in the east bay, one of the most popular events is oakland's own twist on the traditional thanksgiving dinner. abc7 news reporter anser hassan found it's a block party that reflects the diversity of the town the minute. >> oaktown is going old school with a community block party. thanksgiving the meaning of thanksgiving. >> we celebrate which is community coming together and giving back and that's what we celebrate. >> farooq ology, owner of two star market in oakland, has turned this into an annual tradition. >> happy thanksgiving, everyone. >> 80 turkeys, 500 pounds of chicken and a variety of non traditional thanksgiving dishes make up the menu. it's as diverse as the city of oakland,

says former oakland mayor jean quan. she was volunteering. >> nobody has a thanksgiving dinner like this. this is like eating at my house. you've got mexican rice. you have chinese rice. you have some of the best collards and macaroni and cheese made by the seniors who live over there. >> you get some rice or okra years ago. >> the event was set up to feed the homeless. 21 years later, it's turned into a community block party and one that many in the community have come to rely on. >> the draw of this thanksgiving community dinner is that when a lot of people, they don't have any family to go to, to. >> so this is family for you? >> yes. yes >> from raffles to free oakland t-shirts. organizers say they've done a lot to make everyone feel included. >> as you guys can see, it's multigenerational. we have families where, you know, their women came in pregnant. now they have their five, six year olds serving, you know, the pies at the end. >> inflation means costs are up.

elordi says he spends close to $15,000 to host thanksgiving with an additional 5000 coming from other local businesses. as a yemeni immigrant, he says thanksgiving has cross-cultural appeal with his muslim beliefs. >> as muslims, we celebrate ramadan, where we come to family, come together, and from different foods and all of that, we come together and we share that food and break bread. and that's the same way how we feel. and they plan to be back again next year in oakland, anser hassan, abc seven news. >> san francisco glide memorial church held its annual thanksgiving tradition, providing thousands of meals. mayor london breed shared a story about her sister going to glide when she was alive on her journey of trying to get clean and sober. >> she knew and our family knew that glide was the place to come and the place to be. and i still remember pulling up here in the front and how she had her apron on and she was helping. and i came down here because i wanted to support her. >> the community enjoyed a music

filled service and a space to eat together. glide prepared 3000 meals to serve on site and throughout the city and hundreds of warm thanksgiving meals were also delivered to some of san francisco's hardest to reach today, many of whom are struggling amidst the drug overdose crisis. abc seven news reporter tara campbell was up close, capturing it all. >> i know 250 warm thanksgiving meals are being loaded up, glides harm reduction team is reaching some of san francisco's most vulnerable. >> well, it's just nice to be able to do this today as the sister, we're always looking at giving back to the community and doing what we can. >> sister anya streets a member of the sisters of perpetual indulgence, an order of queer and trans activists known best as felony castro. at her day job here at glide. the team is often on the streets, handing out safe consumption supplies like clean syringes and drug testing strips and connecting people to treatment and other services. >> we got some thanksgiving meal

for you. all right. >> but on this day, it's all about making sure people get a meal. lewis what does it mean to get a meal like this today? >> oh, a lot right now. yeah, a lot. because it's yeah, we don't get really a whole lot of meals out here. but yeah, it helps a lot out here. >> lewis lives in an rv in the bayview area and he's battling addiction. >> what do you what do you use? >> speed, heroin on? uh- weed. >> does a fentanyl worry? >> you know, i don't do fentanyl and i don't mess with it. i don't care for it, really. it's a bad thing. >> does it worry you that you that it could be in the other drugs, though? >> yeah. yeah, it do. i do. that's why i have test strips and all that. >> fentanyl is 50 times more potent than heroin and it's fueling record high overdose deaths. san francisco is on pace for its deadliest year yet amid the drug overdose crisis. >> s. i see too many friends die every day. every day in the street. >> carlos says he's been in and out of treatment and is determined to recover a drug addiction. >> use a crack cocaine for 22 years already 22 years. and i feel bad, you know, that's why i

want to quit. >> a simple thanksgiving dinner is going a long way. >> i feel happy people bring bring food. >> you know, they have messages on the inside, too. >> and these cards are also making people happy, crafted by local students, one of the cards making its way into these little hands. marvin lobos is picking up a meal for himself and his daughter. every every body need helps. >> you know, that's what i try to do. help somebody else, too. if you help me, that's great. you know, that's what i can say. thank you so much. you know, tara campbell, abc seven news in the north bay cars lined up in san rafael to deliver 160 meals for homebound seniors in marin county. >> the thanksgiv meals were prepared by vivillon, which provides services for seniors and those with disabilities. it's estimated 1 in 3 older adults in marin county struggle to put food on the table. now, like us here at abc seven, many people are working this thanksgiving. some are first

responders missing out on family time to help others. abc seven news reporter luz pena surprised many of them to say thank you on on a day where it's all about gratitude and we went on a mission to spread just that we just got some flowers to say thank you to many who don't typically hear those words can't wait to give them out in san francisco, chinatown, we spotted a beloved paramedic. >> q come this way. >> q is part of the team that was giving out food for seniors today. >> we just finished his route. it's 13 mills and then we got a second route for a total of 15 more mills. wow. this is actually on the other side in the avenues. >> so this is how you spend thanksgiving in. >> yes, it's actually pretty fun. i like it. it's a good feeling. >> so we want to say thank you to you. oh thank you. this is sweet for this next one, we got an accomplice. okay? so we just got to the salvation army event for thanksgiving and we're here

to surprise lieutenant mariano elias with the san francisco fire department. he has no idea. his oldest daughter just recorded the sweetest message to say thank you to him. let's go get him. mariano, how many years have you been at san francisco? firefighter >> i've been a firefighter for over 23 years. wow. and you're working today? >> thanksgiving today i'm working. >> and so are the brave men and women of the san francisco fire department. >> we're talking about family. and you have three kids. your oldest is sending you a message. >> we're super grateful for all that you do. >> i love my kids. it's tough unfortunately, this job has allowed me to provide as a father for my children. and they're outstanding kids. >> our next stop, ucsf, parnassus campus. we also got an accomplice for this one. >> you know, i'm missing my

after yesterday's deadly crash at a border security checkpoint. today, authorities revealed that the driver was a man from new york and that he had just left a casino with his wife. authorities say he was driving his bentley 100 miles an hour when he hit a median, flew over an eight foot fence and crashed in a fiery explosion. the man and his wife were killed in that crash. a border patrol officer at this checkpoint sustained minor injuries. new york's governor said there was no indication of a terrorist attack . back to the latest now in the war between israel and hamas. a truce to allow the release of

hostages and prisoners is just hours away. that truce is set to begin at 9 p.m. california time, where hamas will release 50 hostages over four days while israel will release palestinian prisoners in israel. vows to continue bombing gaza after that truce ends. the us will alert family members of any americans freed. president biden says he is thinking about americans held hostage. what's your message to hostages like paul and evan and russia who can't be with their families on this holiday? >> we ain't giving up. >> we're going to keep going till we get this. >> in new york, the macy's thanksgiving day parade was interrupted when pro-palestinian protesters wearing white jumpsuits ran into the street and blocked the parade route. several people were detained. well, speaking of the macy's parade featured 11 marching bands, 25 huge balloons and star performances, including the tap dancing christmas trees from alameda. today, they appeared in the parade for the sixth time.

the 57 member troupe spread holiday cheer along the entire route, one kick at a time. they tried to stay focused as they tapped their way downtown to herald square. >> millions of people along the way shouting at you, calling out to you, you know, waving, wanting to shake your hand, wanting to have you dance some more. yeah yeah. >> there's a lot going on. the tap dancing trees started 33 years ago at the dance. ten performing arts center in alameda with just five members. they began rehearsing their routines in august for private parties and tree lighting ceremonies, along with holiday parades. as you as well can see, them here in san francisco on december sixth at the civic center holiday tree lighting. well, coming up next, a look at your holiday weekend forecast as we take a live look outside of san francisco. all lit up the question, will the weather stay as nice as it was today

an odd there off the 21st annual san francisco turkey trot happened in golden gate park. >> the event was a sell out with more than 1000 participants choosing either a five mile or three mile race. there was also a 100 meter dash for the kiddos. holiday shoppers are expected to set a record this year,

according to the national retail federation. in total, shoppers could. spend $966 billion more than ever before, 182 million people are planning to shop between today and cyber monday. that is also a record. black friday is the most popular shopping day, followed by cyber monday and local small businesses. hope you'll come out to their stores for small business saturday. communities across the bay area are offering special deals for example, in san francisco, bernal cutlery has teamed up with craftsmen and wolves to sell some exclusive cookies. oakland has a blackout market which features black creators. and in pacifica, there are pop up shops open for one day only. all right. and getting to the weather situation right now, things looking pretty good in sandia. when i asked you about clear sailing, you said sort of almost. >> yeah, that's because we have to deal with dion. gusty winds coming up, freezing cold nights and mornings. we just got a

beach hazard statement issued as well. so we're going to talk about all the warnings in just a moment. but first, black friday shoppers. let's take a look at the forecast. hope you're enjoying thanksgiving. clear and breezy tonight at 7:00. temperatures in the 50s gusty in the hills later on tonight at 11 p.m. getting chilly and jackets are needed at 1 a.m. 40s and 50s. if you are going to venture out, keep that in mind. all right, let's look at satellite and radar there was a cold front that came through here earlier today. we did have a few snow showers in the sierra. that is long gone. and now behind that trough, high pressure is nudging in. that's what's going to bring us those gusty northerly winds later on tonight. going into tomorrow morning, not too strong right now, 25 miles an hour on mount diablo, but those will be ramping up later on tonight, 7:00 getting gustier in the hills and in solano county over 40 miles an hour. you will notice at 10:00 pm tonight. and although it's going to be breezy near the coast, the strongest winds north and east bay hills

and of course, right around that carquinez strait delta area, 41 miles an hour friday morning as we head towards 10 a.m, still gusty downsloping wind. but the concern for fire danger is not here entirely. and that's because we've had some rain recently. so enough moisture in the fuels but always a good idea to stay aware solano county under that wind advisory until 1 p.m. tomorrow gusts to 45 miles an hour. and we also have frost advisory for mendocino coast tomorrow morning a freeze warning for lake county tomorrow morning and then a freeze watch going up for solano county saturday and sunday morning's temperatures in the coldest spots anywhere from the upper 20s to the low 30s. so protect those pets. don't forget about your sensitive plants. they may get damaged. exploratorium camera. you are seeing a beautiful view of san francisco tonight where it is 59 degrees. oakland 58, currently 55 in palo alto. and a live view from santa cruz camera. it is all quiet on the coast, but that's going to
