gloria rodriguez as meteorologist lisa argen is here. lisa, how was your thanksgiving? it was good. >> thank you. you had a good time. >> did a lot of turkey, all the good food, right. >> a lot of people out this weekend for sure. and boy, maybe not so fast this morning because we have a frosted visory in the north bay. it is cold everywhere as we look at live doppler seven, big dome of high pressure, dry air in place or frost advisory in our north bay valleys until 10:00. temperatures as cold actually, they're below 36 right now. and some of these areas. so that's certainly could kill sensitive vegetation. check out santa rosa at 32 degrees, 30 in novato 33 san ramon. it is 38 in livermore and they'll continue to drop right on through 7:00, probably 8:00 as well. 20 degrees colder this morning in santa rosa, 12 degrees colder in livermore. and nice and clear out there though. we'll look for temperatures to be pretty cool with temperatures in the mid and upper 50s noontime. few low 60s around the

bay. some skies and we're talking about a freeze warning tonight. details coming up. gloria it's getting chilly out there. >> thank you so much. pro-palestinian protesters filled bay area streets friday from emeryville to san francisco in santa clara, crowds flooded valley fair mall. the protests come as a temporary ceasefire is underway in gaza. abc7 news reporter tara campbell spoke to organizers about their calls for a permanent ceasefire. to palestine. >> pro-palestinian protesters packed into valley fair mall in santa clara with a black friday message. is dropping. bombs are dropping. >> i felt like we really made an impact. people stopped. they were you know, they wanted to see what was going on. >> arshia hussein captured this video while inside the mall. she says she was there to keep calls for a ceasefire in the spotlight by not letting it get distracted by the shopping day. >> not getting distracted from what's really going on. i a few

stores closed a couple of their doors, you know, maybe just out of safety precaution. three, three. >> and at san francisco's union square, the same message rang out today. we came out on black friday to demand that our elected officials echo the growing and popular calls for a permanent ceasefire. these calls coming from many who have already lost loved ones. >> my sister in law, she just lost her brother in law and her niece and nephew. >> this particular protester asked, we don't show his face or share his name. he says he fears it could make him a target. friday's event was organized by youth protesters, and they estimate that a thousand people were piled into union square. at its height, it was the youth who led on their days off from school to bring everyone out to the streets and keep this protest movement going. tara campbell, abc few

days. abc news reporter chuck sivertsen tells us more about the first hostages released as more are expected to be freed today. >> israel is expected to receive its second wave of hostages saturday on day two of the cease fire. it follows after 24 israeli and foreign citizens were released to israel on friday. the red cross received the group of 13 israeli citizens , thai citizens and one filipino citizen from hamas, transferring the hostages to the idf, where they first received a medical assessment before being sent to israeli hospital for reunification with their families. >> we are all really relieved that we heard from them and that

they said that they're fine and not just other people told us the released hostages included children as young as two, four and five, as well as some of their mothers and other women hostages ages 79 and 85 across the west bank. >> cheers as crowds celebrate the arrival of the palestinian prisoners amid this four day cease fire. israel releasing 39 palestinian women and teenage prisoners. president joe biden friday addressing why the pause was so important. consistently pressed for a pause in the fighting for two reasons to accelerate and expand humanitarian assistance going into gaza and to facilitate the release of hostages. the united nations sent 200 trucks across the rafah border and into gaza on day one of the pause, the largest single day delivery since the october 7th terror attack. the trucks carrying cooking gas and critical fuel that is needed to power hospitals and trucks. the aid desperately needed in gaza as

there are now at least 1.7 million people displaced and at least 1 million staying in shelters run by the united nations. relief and works agency for palestinian refugees. chuck sivertsen, abc news, new york. >> new this morning, two people are being treated for smoke inhalation after an apartment fire in the mission in san francisco last night. according to firefighters, the fire on woodward street was started by a lithium ion battery. firefighters say one of those people being treated tried to battle the flames. >> he did do a brave thing by trying to fight the fire with the extinguisher first. that didn't work entirely. so then he noticed that the house line was there in the hallway. so he pulled the house line and charged it with water and said to me that he stayed low, try to stay below the smoke layer and fight it. >> no one else hurt in the fire was contained to the single unit . all other residents were able

to return to their homes. happening today, many shoppers are getting their wallets out for small business saturday. a recent survey shows a growing popularity among millennial girls for today's shopping experience 72% of them said they plan to partake in buying from local businesses. data also shows 61% of shoppers overall prefer small business. saturday compared to the 56% of black friday shoppers. as last year, americans spent nearly $18 billion on small businesses. on the last saturday of november. for now, that black friday is over, plenty of us are waiting on cyber monday for more holiday sales. adobe analytics predicts $12 billion in revenue on monday. so-called cyber week is expected to rake in more than $37 billion in sales. that's a more than 5% increase compared to last year. the national retail federation anticipates holiday spending will reach record levels through the next month. and this was a scene in

san francisco's union square, which was bustling with black friday shoppers as it is a promising sign that city officials and law enforcement have been working towards san francisco recently received $17 billion in grant money to combat retail theft and 15 million more for police patrols. the change is visible. we saw sfpd officers on nearly every street corner, and businesses say they are seeing a steady uptick in foot traffic. >> every time we get a few people leaving, there's five more people coming in. so we've just been we've been busy all around union square, the holiday spirit is in the air. >> the macy's christmas tree was lit two weeks ago and the holiday ice rink opened at the beginning of the month. it's beautiful there and crowds started before shoppers even got to the mall. check out the line of cars waiting to get into the san francisco premium outlets yesterday afternoon in

livermore, police were stationed around the mall to keep traffic flowing and also prevent thefts. the outlet mall is as big as a traffic jam because it has 180 stores as and it was another story in marin county. shoppers had plenty of room to go between the stores and check out all the black friday deals at the corte madera shopping center. security was also tighter. there last month, thieves used a car to ram into a sunglass hut store, and then they also stole merchandise there. the fallout continues for the social media platform x, after its owner, elon musk, endorsed an anti-semitic conspiracy theory. the new york times reports that x could lose as much as $75 million in adverts losing revenue by the end of the year. dozens of major brands are pulling their ads in response to musk's comments. s internal documents obtained by the new york times show that airbnb, coca cola and microsoft may become the newest companies to cut ties with x. now let's

see the ferry building and check out the beautiful lights. all ready, ready for christmas with the green and the red. and it looks like a beautiful morning. so we'll check in with lisa in a little bit and see how your saturday is shaping up in the south bay. a school district is seeing a spike in students experience homelessness. east side union high school district reports there are about 900 unhoused students in the district. that's three times the amount in 2020. it projects the number will grow more by the end of the year, potentially reaching 1000 in flation. the cost of living and lasting impacts of the pandemic are to blame. the east side education foundation wants to donate warm clothes and gift cards to students over the holidays. in the past, it's given $100 to each student, but with more on how students it needs more resources so people can donate through their website. that's east side hyphen fund .org/ give . the former minneapolis police

officer convicted of murdering george floyd has been stabbed in prison. derek chauvin is expected to survive. he was stabbed by another inmate at the federal correctional institution in tucson, arizona. chauvin is serving a 43 year prison sentence after being found guilty in the may 2020, killing of floyd, whose death sparked nationwide protests. this morning, a show of gratitude from one oakland community to the city's former police chief and the former mayor. lauren armstrong and libby schaaf received community service awards from bishop o'dowd high school. armstrong currently works as a volunteer coach for the school's men's basketball team. he continues to push to get his job back after being fired back in february. in the meantime, he is using his free time to mentor kids. >> it continues, you know, to show me that people appreciate the work that i did. that people understand how much i love this community and how hard i worked in this community.

>> and armstrong are both oakland natives, shefs served as mayor from 2015 until january of this year, and she selected armstrong to be the city's police chief back in 2021. he was fired by current mayor shane tao in the south bay. a beloved holiday tradition is back. san jose's christmas in the park made its return as the giant christmas tree was lit up. and as always, a large crowd turned out. abc seven news reporter lauren martinez caught up with some of the loyal attendees. >> thousands of people are getting into the holiday spirit at the opening night of christmas in the park. the one each year, the two acre plaza de cesar chavez in san jose is transformed into a festive village. >> oh, ever since i can remember. ever since i was five years old. same age as her. i'm just, you know, just kind of keep the tradition going. and if you have little ones, it's a great, great food, great people.

>> caitlin lewis loves the event so much. she's now a part of it, working at the hot chocolate stands. >> it's the real christmas spirit. it's the real magic is here at christmas in the park because everyone is the community comes together. santa and mayor matt mehan held friday's tree lighting ceremony. >> pictures with the grinch were held below it. >> oh, we love it. it's just so festive. and we dressed up this year just to match with the grinch. >> christmas in the park is a nonprofit organized nation. each tree thoughtfully decorated by schools, community groups, businesses and families, is coming here, seeing all the people, seeing our neighbors, seeing neighbors. >> we've not met before. just just being here. it's so community based and love it. >> there are hundreds of trees, more than 40 holiday displays and lots of glittering lights. >> i think having a kid is totally different now. like it's seeing it through his eyes is awesome. >> best part is if you plan on heading here with friends or

family admission is completely free in san jose. lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> that looks like fun. and take a look at this. this is a soccer field at paypal park. the goalposts have been taken out to make way for a winter light spectacular. that is beautiful. all it's called enchant. our camera went by right before all the lights were turned on for the first time this year, and you could see all the incredible lights, sculptures, the enormous lighted trees, the big attraction is a bright maze. it's called santa's magic timepiece. >> you ever wonder how santa gets around in one night? your job is to go through the maze and find all the missing star fragments and complete that to help save christmas. >> enchant also has a marketplace. carolers and magicians to entertain visitors for tickets. you can go to enchant christmas dot com and it's open until december 31st. for some it is now christmas tree shopping season and you

could see people right there walking around this christmas tree lot at santas tree farm in half moon bay. they're looking for the perfect tree. the owners of the farm say that plenty of rain this year contributed to a really good looking crop of trees that are now ready to be taken home. >> they've been healthy all year and they've had all the water they've needed. this year we had more rain than previous years, so the trees are really tall. they've grown really well. experts say no matter how healthy your tree is, when you get it, you should put it in water right when you get home to make sure it does not dry out before your christmas. >> not everybody spent their friday shopping, though. some headed out to ardenwood historic farm in fremont. the east bay regional park district waived entrance and activity fees at its park as part of green friday. that's a movement to get people to spend more time with loved ones outside instead of shopping. >> think of it as a good day to visit the park. i don't do black

friday. do you like shopping, micah no, we're not shoppers. >> green friday also encourages people to support good causes. this is the ninth year that east bay parks has waived fees on the day after thanksgiving, we expected high tides are leading to extended road closures in the north bay. the lower half of the manzanita park and ride lot is now closed through wednesday, along with shoulder parking on state route one in mill valley. that same closure will take effect once again from december 11th through december 28th. high tides are known to flood the lot this time of the year. and you know, it's starting to get chilly out here in the bay area. let's get a check of that forecast with lisa. arjun, yet yesterday i was feeling cold all day. >> yeah you know we were around average low to mid 60s. there was a little bit of wind out there making it feel a little bit cooler. but with that lack of wind and the dry air in place , temperatures having no problem

dropping to near or around freezing, especially in our north bay valleys. we'll be looking at more cold weather for the next several nights as no real big changes are in store. we've got high pressure overhead and with the dry air mass, maximum radiational cooling is being allowed to occur for each and every night throughout the middle of the week before we get a couple of weak weather systems headed our way. and then that will in turn allow for some mitigated overnight lows. but also bring in a chance of showers. so, kurt, numbers right now 28 degrees in novato freezing in santa rosa. it is 33. in san ramon with upper 30s in livermore gilroy down to 35. but notice along the coast we're in the 50s water temperature is in the upper 50 soquel's. so you can be a good 12 to 15 degrees cooler than some of the numbers around the bay. obviously with the water keeping us warmer. 13 degrees cooler in novato, 12 degrees colder in santa rosa.

you can see a couple of pockets. not as cold but overall you're feeling the chill out there and our forecast headlines then frost advisory for the north bay. we'll have sunny days. the cold mornings into the beginning of the upcoming workweek week and then looking at a slight chance of some rain wednesday, thursday, a couple of weak systems coming our way, breaking down the ridge of high pressure. so with the high tide, a beach hazard statement until tomorrow morning, you can see the wave heights, 8 to 9ft here. and this makes for dangerous conditions at the beach. so a lot of folks like to go out. it's been nice and sunny and enjoy the coastline, but pretty dangerous out there throughout the day today. here's a look at the overnight lows for your sunday morning notice dropping off below freezing once again, the north bay valleys, a few degrees cooler in our inland valleys, then into monday morning, even colder. so unfortunately, this cold air settling in. but then by tuesday, pretty much still

the same. and as we look at our highs throughout the next several days, notice we bump up monday and tuesday. this is for the livermore valley and then dropping off for the latter part of the workweek. i talked about a couple chances of rain. they are weak chances. there's the first one wednesday and then thursday day. and as we look at an early call for rainfall throughout the week ahead, maybe a half inch or better in san francisco. but that obviously is going to change as we get closer to it. 63 in palo alto today. it's going to take a while to get there because it's so cold this morning. low 60s in richmond, san francisco, 64. and the accuweather seven day forecast. notice we're looking at the cold mornings, the sunny afternoons right on through about tuesday and then increase in clouds and some shower chances not yet putting in our storm impact scale. we have to see how this verifies as we get closer. >> it's definitely starting to feel more like that holiday winter season with the weather getting a little chillier. totally. yeah.

from supervisor ronen is unfair. last week they created the mission street vendors association, bringing together a group of 116 vendors seeking to delay the ban. it says mi familia depende de mi trabajo. my family depends on my job. they preocupa tu familia. you're worried about them mi familia porque i'm worried about my family. don't lose and luis ledesma are family. street vending has been their only source of income for the last decade. they got their first permit in 2015 when they don't understand why their livelihood should be impacted because the city is overwhelmed by those selling stolen items and attacking inspectors. i don't know what to do. this ban is part of a strategy to regain control of the sidewalks. >> what happened is that it was really overwhelmed our resources and frankly, the number of vendors that are operating on

the street is impossible for us to regulate right now. >> santiago lerma is supervisor ronan's aide. he showed us one of the three locations they're planning to open for vendors on monday. we're spending in total about. $500,000 in rent and construction for the three sites. >> many view selling indoors as a setback, especially during the holidays, when their businesses make the most money. >> sofia lopez is part of the association and said she has been following the rules for over a decade and is concerned the ban will be extended past the 90 days. >> esperamos para el otro yo esperamos dia. >> what are we supposed to expect from her for next year? no >> still in limbo. >> in limbo. and as to the possibility of delaying the ban, the reason that we can no longer delay is simply because of the crisis on the street. luz pena, abc seven news. >> starting monday, there will be at least two public works inspectors and sfpd officers at each plaza from 9 a.m. until 8

argen is here and lisa a lot of people are going to continue the shopping today with small business saturday. how's it looking for them weather wise? yeah i think it's going to be really crowded. >> the weather's going to be nice, dry, a little cold to get started. that's why we have our frost advisory in the north bay until 10:00. temperatures here have dropped to around freezing in some spots. hopefully the plants, pets and pipes are okay and you're prepared for that. we have a couple more nights of that 30 in novato 32 santa rosa with 38 in livermore. gilroy is at 34. upper 30s around the bay and then upper 40s closer to the water there 54 in half moon bay, 24 hour temperature change most of us are shivering this morning. 2 to 20 degrees colder. concord and hayward and a little milder as we look at our 9:00 numbers, it's clear and temperatures are still quite chilly. low 40s to the 50s and then by 1:00 it's mostly sunny temperatures in the low to mid 60s. by the afternoon. so it's still going to be cool out

there. but if you're right in the sun, feels pretty good. we're going to talk about a rain chances coming up. there's a couple for the week ahead in a few minutes, gloria. >> all right. thank you, lisa. local businesses are banking on small business saturday. it begins this morning. and now there's one south bay city taking new measures to keep the momentum going beyond this weekend. abc seven news reporter zach fuentes talks to local shop owners. >> welcome to one of east san jose's most colorful stores. >> these are all traditional chinese wedding wear. and then over here there is the vietnamese version. christina bui and her family have owned love me knots bridal for more than 30 years. it's a passion, you know. >> bui also serves as the board chair of the tully road, east ridge business association. she says times have not been easy for local small businesses since the pandemic. >> we had to pivot to survive and though bui was one of the fortunate ones, the struggles of running a small business continue avenue. >> so she and other business owners like caleb orozco are banking on small business. saturday >> we really can't have a

shortage of support, especially during these times, orozco owns the last round tavern in downtown san jose, a business he worked to start and keep open during the pandemic through the difficult circumstances, he says . >> what sets his and many other small businesses apart can't be bought through online shopping. >> we're really supports small businesses and we're really, at the end of the day, makes them thrive. is that human human interaction? >> the city of san jose has launched a shop local campaign to facilitate more of those interactions beyond small business saturday. it's called holiday san jose creatively mapping out an identifying hundreds of small businesses in 11 shopping districts. the city says it has more than 60 small and micro businesses, each contributing to the local economy. the potential boost from the holiday campaign is one the local business owners are grateful for. it's just making us feel, you know, that we're seeing and that we've been heard and that they know our struggle, providing these spaces where people really feel like they belong somewhere and you know, online shopping can't do that.

yet. he was 80 years old. a south bay couple is facing homicide charges after their young daughter died of suspected fentanyl poisoning earlier this year. prosecutors say that the couple had fentanyl and other opioids in their system at the time of the 18 month old's death in, investigators found fentanyl and multiple places inside their san jose home, including on the rug where the girl's body was found in august. if convicted, they each face 15 years to life in prison ahead of holiday gatherings. santa clara county doctors are urging caution. wastewater data is showing a dramatic rise of rsv in the community. abc seven news reporter dustin dorsey explains the latest recommendations to keep you and your loved ones safe. rsv is on the rise in scc. >> santa clara county health leaders say an already busy flu and covid season is getting even busier, with a rise in

respiratory syncytial virus. >> what we saw last year and so far what we i think we're seeing this year is a peak first in rsv, then a peak in flu and then a peak in covid. and so we're going to be monitoring that's part of what we do here at the public health department. but so far, it does look like rsv is probably going to peak first in wastewater monitoring backs that up. >> santa clara county is the leader of community detection for a number of illnesses and diseases, including rsv in the last month, the wastewater has shown double the amount of rsv in san jose and in the palo alto, sunnyvale and gilroy sewer sheds. it has doubled in the last week. rsv affects everybody in every age in our community and we know that the more rsv there is in the community, it's then going to spread to and put those young infants at risk. babies younger than one and people older than 60 are most vulnerable to serious complications from the virus. and a new rsv specific vaccine aims to help them. it's found to reduce an infant's risk of hospitalization from rsv by 57.

santa clara county public health assistant health officer dr. monica roy says despite a shortage of infant vaccines, there is a recommendation for expected mothers to protect their children without waiting to get them vaccinated after birth. the idea is that weeks 32 through 36, the mother gets vaccinated. >> she develops antibodies. those get passed on to her infant. and so that baby is then protected during this this fall winter rsv season. >> in addition to the rsv vaccine, dr. roy says an increase in emergency visits for influenza like illnesses means it's important for everyone to get updated. covid and flu shots as well. and of course, she says don't forget proper cold and flu season practices in santa clara county. dustin dorsey abc seven news. us forces faced violent attacks thanksgiving day in iraq and syria. >> us officials say that there were four separate drone and rocket attacks on military personnel. no one was injured and no structures were damaged. there's been at least 73 attacks on us forces since october 17th.

everybody. we live doppler seven here. you can see big dome of high pressure. the clear sky over california. air and dry air, a lack of wind radiational cooling and allow for allowing for some frost to develop here in our north bay valleys. 30 novato 31 santa rosa. i wouldn't be surprised to see some hometown little temperature gauges in the 20s 48 san francisco though. so really big difference getting closer to the bay 37 vallejo it is 33 in the san ramon valley and these chilly numbers lasting throughout the next several days as we have the clear sky and that dry air in place. 13 degrees colder. novato look at santa rosa, 20 degrees colder. but just a little pocket of temperatures. not as cold. in fact, a little warmer from oakland to concord this morning. our forecast highlights featuring the frost advisory for the north bay. otherwise sunny days near average. we'll have the cold mornings lingering into early next week and then a slight chance of rain. couple of them coming our way. they'll be

just really not on the storm impact scale yet. we're going to have to wait to see if that rain really verifies. but it does break down the ridge of high pressure and that will get the storm door and hopefully open by the time we get to december. here's a look at our current wave heights of beach hazard statement until tomorrow morning. increased risk of sneaker waves. we got the highest threat for the west north west, facing beaches from sonoma all the way down to big sur. so keep that in mind if you are headed to the coast. here's a look at your overnight lows tomorrow morning. just as cold, maybe even a few degrees colder for the north bay. you can see the 30s arriving in our inland valleys. this is monday morning and even colder in spots from the upper 20s and even san francisco getting down into the low 40s tuesday morning. still another frosty start the afternoons in our inland valleys from the low 60s today near average a little bump up on monday and tuesday, but then we get into a weak weather system come wednesday and thursday and the temperatures will drop off to highs only in the upper 50s.

so here's a look at the trend as we get through the week ahead. that is a wednesday system that kind of skirts down to southern california thursday system coming out of the north. we get into december. so earlier runs were looking like it looked more impressive for the first week of december. we'll wait and see. but early call looks to bring us anywhere from a couple hundredths to maybe a half inch of rain. this could be overdoing it, but you get the idea. we are looking at hopefully a pattern change. 64 san mateo highs today under sunny skies. anywhere from the low 60s to the mid 60s in san jose and the accuweather seven day forecast. it's a couple of cold mornings out there with 30s and 40s and then as we get into the afternoon near average increasing clouds tuesday maybe a few shower chances by the middle tthe end of the week.
