>> it was very crowded out there. beautiful day for it. and i expect today and tomorrow to be just as busy. the weather's cooperating with dry conditions, high pressure in control. but if you live in the north bay, you're probably feeling that chill. we have a frost advisory until 10:00. the interior valleys here where temperatures in petaluma to novato, santa rosa down around san rafael quarter of madera numbers in the 30s in larkspur, we could see even lower than that 30 in novato right now 31 in santa rosa, 37. vallejo with 38 in livermore gilroy 34. so overall many of us really shivering from livermore to novato and santa rosa, a little bit milder in concord and hayward this morning . but nonetheless, the cold weather sticking around throughout the next several days with the clear sky, the dry air and the lack of wind at the surface there. upper 50s for the warmest locations by noontime. otherwise we'll be in the low 60s by the middle of the afternoon through a few mid 60s for the south bay. and we'll talk about another chilly night

tonight. we'll see how many of those we can count up before we bring in extra clouds and rain chances our way as well for the week ahead gloria. >> all right. we'll need our jacket today. thank you, lisa. pro-palestinian protesters filled bay area streets friday from emeryville to san francisco . snow in santa clara. crowds flooded valley fair mall. the protest come as a temporary cease fire is underway in gaza. abc7 news reporter tara campbell spoke to organizers about their calls for a permanent cease fire . the policy side pro-palestinian protesters packed into valley fair mall in santa clara with a black friday message. >> why is nothing comes are dropping. >> i felt like we really made an impact. people stop. they were you know they wanted to see what was going on. >> arshia hussein captured this video while inside the mall. she says she was there to keep calls for a cease fire in the spotlight by not letting it get distracted by the shopping day, not getting distracted from

what's really going on. >> i noticed a few stores closed, a couple of their doors. you know, maybe just out of safety precaution, three, three staff. >> and at san francisco union square, the same message rang out today. we came out on black friday to demand that our elected officials echo the growing and popular calls for a permanent cease fire. these calls coming from many who have already lost loved ones. >> my sister in law, she just lost her brother in law and her niece and nephew. >> this particular protester asked, we don't show his face or share his name. he says he fears it could make him a target for said friday's event was organized by youth protesters and they estimate that a thousand people were piled into union square at its height, it was the youth who led on their days off from school to bring everyone out to the streets and keep this protest movement

going. tara campbell, abc seven news. this morning. >> israel and hamas are in day two of the four day cease fire. the us, qatar and egypt expect hamas to release at least 50 hostages in exchange for 150 palestinian prisoners over the next few days. abc news reporter chuck sivertsen tells us more about the first hostages released as more are expected to be freed today. >> israel is expected to receive its second wave of hostages saturday on day two of the cease fire. it follows after 24 israeli and foreign citizens were released to israel on friday. the red cross received the group of 13 israeli citizens , ten thai citizens and one filipino citizen from hamas, transferring the hostages to the idf, where they first received a medical assessment before being sent to israeli hospitals for reunification with their families. >> we we're all really relieved that we heard from them and that they said that they're fine and

not just other people told us that the released hostages included children as young as two, four and five, as well as some of their mothers and other women hostages ages 79 and 85 across the west bank. >> cheers as crowds celebrate the arrival of the palestinian prisoners amid this four day cease fire. israel releasing 39 palestine women and teenage prisoners. president joe biden friday addressing why the pause was so important. >> persistently pressed for a pause in the fighting for two reasons to accelerate and expand humanitarian assistance. going into gaza and to facilitate the release of hostages, the united nations sent 200 trucks across the rafah border and into gaza on day one of the pause, the largest single day delivery since the october seventh terror attack. >> the trucks carrying cooking gas and critical fuel that is needed to power hospitals and trucks. the aid desperately needed in gaza, as there are now

at least 1.7 million people displaced and at least 1 million staying in shelters run by the united nations. relief and works agency for palestinian refugees, says chuck sivertsen, abc news, new york. >> this morning we're learning american citizens are not expected to be among the hostages released today. new this morning, two people are being treated for smoke inhalation after an apartment fire in the mission in san francisco last night. according to firefighters, that fire on woodward street was started by a lithium ion battery. firefighter say that one of those people being treated tried to battle the flames. >> he did do a brave thing by trying to fight the fire with the extinguisher first. that didn't work entirely. so then he noticed that the house line was there in the hallway. so he pulled the house line and charged it with water and said to me that he stayed low, try to stay below the smoke layer and fight it. no one else was hurt

and the fire was contained to the single unit. >> all other residents were able to return to their homes. happening today, many shoppers are getting their wallets out for small business saturday. a recent survey shows a growing popularity among millennials. for today's shopping experience. 72% of them said they plan to partake in buying from local businesses. data also shows 61% of shoppers overall prefer for small business. saturday compared to the 56% of black friday shoppers. last year. americans spent nearly $18 billion on small businesses. on the last saturday of november. and now that black friday is over, plenty of us are waiting on cyber monday for more holiday sales. adobe analytics predicts that $12 billion in revenue on monday, so-called cyber week is expected to rake in more than $37 billion in sales. that's more than 5% increase compared

to last year. the national retail federation anticipates that holiday spending will reach record levels through the next month. and this was the scene in union square yesterday in san francisco, which was bustling with black friday shoppers. it is a promising sign that city officials and law enforcement have been working towards. san francisco recently received $79 million in grant money to combat retail theft and 15 million more for police patrols. the change is visible. we saw sfpd officers on nearly every street corner, and businesses say that they are seeing a steady uptick in foot traffic. >> every time we get a few people leaving, there's five more people coming in. so we've just been we've been busy all around union square, the holiday spirit is in the air. >> the macy's christmas tree was lit two weeks ago and the holiday ice rink opened at the beginning of the month. i was there last weekend. it is beautiful out there and crowds

started before the shoppers even got to the mall. check out the line of cars waiting to get into the san francisco premium outlets yesterday afternoon in livermore, more police were stationed around the mall to keep the traffic flowing and also prevent thefts. the fallout continues for the social media platform x after its owner, elon musk endorsed an anti semitic conspiracy theory. the new york times reports that x could lose as many as $75 million in advertising revenue by the end of the year. dozens of major brands are pulling their ads in response to musk's comments, internal documents obtained by the new york times show that airbnb, coca-cola and microsoft may become the newest companies to cut ties with x. well, a lot of you are planning on going out there and shopping today for small business saturday. so let's get a preview of your weather with lisa. >> hey, gloria.i, everyone. good morning to you. beautiful sparkling view of san francisco. temperatures are ranging from freezing in our north bay valleys with a frost advisory to

armstrong and libby schaaf received community service awards from bishop o'dowd high school. armstrong currently works as a volunteer coach for the school's men's basketball team. he continues to push to get his job back after being fired in february. in the meantime, he is using his free time to mentor kids. >> it continues. you know, to show me that people appreciate the work that i did. that people understand how much i love this community and how hard i worked in this community. >> schaff and armstrong are both oakland natives. shefs served as mayor from 2015 until january of this year, and she selected armstrong to be the city's police chief back in 2021. he was fired by current mayor shengtao and the south bay, a beloved holiday tradition is back. san jose's christmas in the park made its return as the giant christmas tree was lit up. as always, a large crowd turned out. abc seven news reporter lauren martinez caught up with some of the loyal attendees as

thousands of people are getting into the holiday spirit at the opening night of christmas in the park holiday, the one each year the two acre plaza de cesar chavez in san jose is transformed into a festive village. >> oh. >> oh. ever since i can remember. ever since i was five years old. same age as her. i'm just, you know, just kind of keep the tradition going. and if you have little ones, it's a great, great food, great people. >> caitlin lewis loves the event so much. she's now a part of it. working at the hot chocolate stands. it's the real christmas spirit. >> it's the real magic is here at christmas in the park because everyone is just the community comes together. mayor matt mehan held friday's tree lighting ceremony. >> pictures with the grinch were held below it all. >> we love it. it's just so festive and we dressed up this year just to match with the grinch. >> christmas in the park is a

nonprofit organization mission each tree thoughtfully decorated by schools, community groups, businesses and families coming here, seeing all the people, seeing our neighbors, seeing neighbors. >> we've not met before. just just being here. it's so community based and love it. >> there are hundreds of trees, more than 40 holiday displays and lots of glittering lights. >> i think having a kid is totally different now. like it's seeing it through his eyes is awesome. >> best part is if you plan on heading here with friends or family. admission is completely free in san jose. lauren martinez, abc seven news and take a look at the soccer field at paypal park. >> the goalposts have been taken out to make way for a winter light spectacular. it is called enchant our camera went by before all the lights were turned on for the first time. this year and you could see all the incredible light sculptures, the enormous lighted trees, the big attract is a bright maze. it's called santa's magic timepiece. >> as you ever wonder how santa

gets around in one night, your job is to go through the maze and find all the missing star fragments and complete that to help save christmas enchant. >> also has a marketplace. carolers and magicians to entertain visitors for tickets you can go to enchant christmas.com and it's open until december 31st. beautiful fremont held a tree lighting ceremony as well to kick off its festival of lights parade. the event attracts more than 10,000 spectators in the city's niles district. the parade brought out antique cars, marching bands, dancers and over 60 fun floats. and it's all funded by the community and local businesses. expected high tides are leading to extended road closures in the north bay. the lower half of the manzanita park and ride lot is now closed through wednesday, along with shoulder parking on state route one in mill valley. and that same closure will take

effect once again from december 11th through december 28th. high tides are known to flood the lot this time of the year. meteorologist lisa argen is tracking the forecast. and lisa, seeing all these christmas stories, the trees, everything just makes me get into the holiday spirit. and it's kind of like feeling like the holidays, too, with a chillier weather. yeah, i had a little frost on my windshield leaving this morning. >> and you know how early that was. so you wait a few hours and some of you will be waking up to that frost on the lawn. some of the plants, unfortunately, but other will not be so cold because you know how we do it here in the bay area, very widely ranging temperatures, even our overnight lows are some 20 degrees from our coldest north bay valleys to right around the bay. we've got high pressure in control, a dry air, mass light winds at the surface. and that is certainly the recipe for ideal radiational cooling. beautiful. look here from our roof camera. the sun coming up at 7:00 this morning, setting before 5:00. it is 48. somewhat

mild degrees in san francisco compared to mid seconds in the city of oakland. 43 in mountain view, 38. for this reading in san jose, 41, palo alto, 50 two half moon bay. and the view from mount tam where temperatures are right around 43 at about 2300ft. but you can see the low 30s freezing in novato 34in santa rosa, 37. napa 38 livermore concord ten degrees warmer, 48 degrees. so as we look at our 24 hour temperature change, most of us much colder in the north bay. the east bay not too bad. from hayward to concord, but the next several days we're not going to see a whole lot of change. so we'll probably see another frost advisory tonight into even tuesday morning. there's a look outside the golden gate bridge. so it's frosty in the north bay. sunny days on the way all the way towards wednesday or thereabouts. and then we'll i should say tuesday, wednesday, we could see a slight chance of showers into thursday. two weak

systems breaking down our ridge of high pressure. but in the meantime, we talked about the high tides that also coincides with a strong west northwest beaches where the strong sneaker waves and that swell will really get going today through sunday. so 8 to 9 foot waves right now, up to 12 around sonoma county all the way down to big sur. so some dangerous conditions there. and the cold mornings for your sunday morning low 30s again in the north bay. some mid 30s our east bay even down around redwood city a cool spot there in the upper 30s monday could be even colder. some upper 20s maybe a freeze watch. and then as we get into your tuesday still very similar conditions. so we'll get into the low 60s near average for livermore, a couple degrees warmer for monday tuesday, then we're colder. the second half of the workweek and that's when we could see a chance of showers. there's a look at that first system slide adding by to the south of us. the second system into thursday and early estimates now we could

see anywhere from nothing to maybe a half inch of rain. but this certainly will change. so stay updated on the forecast. 64 in oakland, san mateo with low 60s antioch and napa. the accuweather seven day forecast several cold mornings cool but sunny afternoons through tuesday and then a slight chance of showers as we get into wednesday and thursday. so it would be nice to get some snow. these systems look weak. it looks like we're setting our hopes on december for more rain. >> and you mentioned december. i can't believe it's already next week. friday it goes so quickly. yeah. holiday season is here. my goodness. yeah. wow well, thank you very much, lisa. when we return, the clock is ticking for street vendors in san francisco this morning. they're fighting to delay a temporary ban to take effect next week. what could be another option for vendors if the ban goes as planned

could get confiscated. and as abc7 news reporter lou pena tells us, vendors are asking for that ban to be postponed. >> and over 100 san francisco mission street vendors are fighting back just days before they're prohibited from selling on this street. pienta they have permits. >> they have the ability to be here. you're not going to shuffle the board simply because you think that's how you're going to solve the problem. >> vendors say the 90 day ban from supervisor ronen is unfair. last week they created the mission street vendors association, bringing together a group of 116 vendors seeking to delay the ban. it says mi familia depende de mi trabajo. my family depends on my job. they preocupa tu familia. you're worried about them familia porque i'm worried about my family. tito, luis and luis ledesma are family street vending has been their only source of income for the last decade. they got their first

permit in 2015. they don't understand why their livelihood should be impacted because the city is overwhelmed by those selling stolen items and attacking inspectors. i don't know what to do. this ba part of a strategy to regain control of the sidewalk x what happened is that it was really overwhelmed our resources and frankly, the number of vendors that are operating on the street is impossible for us to regulate right now. santiago lerma is supervisor ronan's aide. he showed us one of the three locations they're planning to open for vendors on monday. we're spending in total about $500,000 in rent and construction for the three sites. >> many view selling indoors as a setback, especially during the holidays, when their businesses make the most money. >> sofia lopez is part of the association and said she has been following the rules for over a decade and is concerned the ban will be extended past

those jackets today, right? >> yeah, definitely. for the first half of the day, you know, it was beautiful yesterday, but it took a while to warm up. and this morning we're starting out much colder in many locations. here's a look at our north bay valleys where we have our frost advisory temperatures have dropped below 30 in some areas. so that's a good 10 to 12 degrees colder than the rest of you over into the east bay. the south bay is pretty chilly, though. a few spots on the peninsula. what a view. gorgeous exploratorium camera 38, san jose, 42 in palo alto with 44. in oakland, 48, san francisco and from santa cruz we're in the mid 40s with the mid 60s later on. that is pretty isn't it dry conditions with low 30s novato 34 santa rosa, 38 in livermore and our 24 hour temperature change confirms us. most of us much colder except for concord and hayward this morning. even oakland a few degrees warmer. so with the clear sky that dry air mass it'll warm up into the low to mid 60s with mostly sunny conditions. we'll talk about a few more clouds for your sunday,

but that's really not going to help us out for the overnight lows. we're going to stay cold until we see the chance of rain coming our way midweek, gloria. >> all right. thank you, lisa. local businesses are banking on small business saturday, which begins at this morning. and now there's one south bay city taking new measures to keep the momentum going beyond this weekend. abc's seven news reporter zach fuentes talks to local shop owners. >> welcome to one of east san jose's most colorful stores. >> these are all traditional chinese wedding wear. and then over here, there is the vietnamese version. christina bui and her family have owned love me knots bridal for more than 30 years. it's a passion, you know. >> she also serves as the board chair of the tully road, east ridge business association. she says times have not been easy for local small businesses since the pandemic. >> we had to pivot to survive and the bui was one of the fortunate ones. >> the struggles of running a small business continue, so she and other business owners like caleb orozco are banking on small business. saturday >> we really can't have a

shortage of support, especially during these times. orozco owns the last round tavern in downtown san jose, a business he worked to start and keep open during the pandemic through the difficult circumstances, he says . >> what sets his and many other small businesses apart can't be bought through online shopping. >> we're really supports small businesses and we're really, at the end of the day, makes them thrive. is that human human interaction? >> the city of san jose has launched a shop local campaign to facilitate more of those interactions beyond small business saturday. it's called holiday san jose creatively mapping out an identifying hundreds of small businesses in 11 shopping districts. the city says it has more than 60 small and micro businesses, each contributing to the local economy. the potential boost from the holiday campaign is one the local business owners are grateful for. it's just making us feel, you know, that we're seeing and that we've been heard and that they know our struggle, providing these spaces where people really feel like they belong somewhere and you know, online shopping can't do that.

at the end of the day, whether it's small business saturday or not, the business owners hope that community members know that all of their hard work is for their friends and neighbors. >> it's ideal to have somebody here in this community making it for you from here, not sending it out anywhere else, and having our special touches on it in san jose, zach fuentes, abc seven news. >> abc seven is keeping track of some small business saturday events that are happening today. for alerts like this one, you can download the abc seven news app and be sure to enable your push notifications. former san mateo county sheriff and supervisor don horsley has died. the san mateo county sheriff's office announced his death on friday. horsley spent nearly three decades serving communities across the peninsula. he first worked for the sheriff's office as a deputy patrol back in 1972. he was eventually elected as sheriff in 1993, where he served for 14 years until he retired in 2007.

his cause of death is not known. horsley was 80 years old. a south bay couple is facing homicide charges after their young daughter daughter died of suspected fentanyl poisoning earlier this year. prosecutors say that the couple had fentanyl and other opioids in their system at the time of the 18 month old's death. investigators found fentanyl in multiple places inside their san jose home, including on the rug where the girl's body was found in august. if convicted, they could face 50 years each to life in prison. ahead of holiday gatherings, santa cruz, santa clara county doctors are urging caution. wastewater data is showing a dramatic rise of rsv sv in the community. abc7 news reporter dustin dorsey explains the latest recommendations to keep you and your loved ones safe. >> if rsv is on the rise in scc. santa clara county health leaders say an already busy flu and covid season is getting even busier, with a rise in

respiratory syncytial virus. >> what we saw last year in so far, what we i think we're seeing this year is a peak first in rsv, then a peak in flu and then a peak in covid. so we're going to be monitoring that's part of what we do here at the public health department. but so far, it does look like rsv is probably going to peak first in wastewater monitoring backs that up. >> santa clara county is the leader of community detection for a number of illnesses and diseases include rsv. in the last month, the wastewater has shown double the amount of rsv in san jose and in the palo alto, sunnyvale and gilroy sewer sheds. it has doubled in the last week. >> rsv affects everyone in every age in our community and we know that the more rsv there is in the community, it's then going to spread to and put those young infants at risk, babies younger than one and people older than 60 are most vulnerable to serious complications from the virus. >> and a new rsv specific vaccine aims to help them. it's found to reduce an infant's risk of hospitalization from rsv by

57. santa clara county public health assistant health officer dr. monica roy says despite a shortage of infant vaccines, there is a recommendation for expected mothers to protect their children without waiting to get them vaccinated after birth. the idea is that weeks 32 through 36, the mother gets vaccinated, she develops antibodies. >> those get passed on to her infant and so that baby is then protected during this this fall winter rsv season in addition to the rsv vaccine. >> dr. roy says an increase in emergency visits for influenza like illnesses means it's important for everyone to get updated. covid and flu shots as well. and of course, she says don't forget proper cold and flu season practices in santa clara county. dustin dorsey abc seven news. us forces face violent attacks thanksgiving day in iraq and syria. >> us officials say that there were four separate drone and rocket attacks on military personnel. no one was injured and no structures were damaged. there's been at least 73 attacks

though. we'll get a check of your forecast with lisa coming up in just a little bit. and now that thanksgiving is over for some, it's now christmas tree shopping season. here's a look at santa tree farm in half moon bay. this is off of highway 92. the farm owners say plenty of rain this year help grow a good looking crop of trees and they're ready to be taken home. >> they've been healthy all year and they've had all the water they've needed. this year we had more rain than previous years. so the trees are really tall. they've grown really well. >> experts say no matter how healthy your tree is, when you get it, you should put it in water when you get home to make sure it does not dry out before christmas. many of us grew up watching a charlie brown thanksgiving, and this year, the iconic show turns 50. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard sat down with a marin county man whose voice brought charlie brown to life all those years ago. charlie brown now charlie brown. >> it's been a half century

since lucy. >> first taunted charlie brown with the football on thanksgiving. but like most kids, charlie grew up. >> i'm todd barbie and i voiced charlie brown on the thanksgiving special. >> todd barbie from san anselmo is remembered sing a charlie brown thanksgiving, which made its tv debut in 1973. todd was just 11 when he gave voice to the iconic peanuts character in a san francisco recording studio south of market. >> occasionally, bill melendez, the animator and director, would come in and i have very fond memories of him coaching us a little about how he wanted to hear the voices come out. todd pulled out his old script proving he's still got it. >> i can't believe it. she must think i'm the most stupid person alive. >> the football gag is a classic. >> hold it. ha, ha. you'll pull it away and i'll land flat on my back. on my back. kill myself, kill myself. >> but as for the kick, todd says it took 27 takes to get the scream right. >> todd, it's just such a

classic scene and it's something i think that so many people can relate to from all walks of life. >> you know, you're you put your trust in somebody and they take it away. >> todd and others who gave voice to the thanksgiving peanuts characters recently attended a 50th anniversary party at the charles m schulz museum in santa rosa. it's curator shares his favorite scene from the special. >> charlie brown doesn't know how to cook. and so snoopy jumps in and woodstock helps out and they make what they know how to make, which ends up being toast. popcorn some jelly beans, pretzels, that kind of thing. what's this? >> it's really mind blowing that it's been 50 years today. >> todd is a sight planner who designed the new home for the skystar wheel at fisherman's wharf. but he'll always look back on his days bringing charlie brown to life. >> the reason this has held up and played for 50 years in a row

that's pretty extreme, lisa. let's shift gears to talk about the weather now. >> all right. good morning to you. we are waking up to some very chilly conditions, north bay valleys, some frost elsewhere. 40s and 50s. big dome of high pressure over the golden state. but we do have the calm winds at the surface. north winds up above. so extreme radiational cooling, allowing for some really frosty readings. san francisco or sutro tower camera nice and clear, 48 degrees. it is 44 in oakland, mountain view, 43, 38. san jose, 45 in palo alto, half moon bay, a balmy 54 and from vollmer peak , you'll notice the clear sky in the 30s in the north bay. how about below freezing in novato 34in santa rosa 37 napa. chilly start in livermore at 38, but fairfield and concord ten degrees milder at 48 degrees. so most of us much colder, especially in the north bay livermore and then slight milder from hayward to oakland. a

couple of sea lions out there, but not many. we'll look for a seasonal afternoon, but it's going to take a while. about 3:00 in the afternoon finally begins to feel good. and then, you know, the sun is certainly low on the horizon and it will be setting before 5:00. so the frost this morning, sunny days, cold mornings into early next week and looking at a slight chance of rain in the middle of the week time frame. and they are small chances wave heights along the north coast here, 8 to 9ft, maybe 11ft. and we have a strong northwesterly swell headed our way, increasing the risk of sneaker waves and rip currents here all the way along our northwest, facing beaches down through big sur sunday morning, even colder in some spots. notice the mid 30s inland, the low 30s in the north bay and some upper 30s on the peninsula. taking you into monday morning, we could have some clouds sunday morning. that's why we're not as cold. but as for monday morning, clear start again. could see some upper 20s so you can bet the

frost advisory, maybe even a freeze warning in parts of the north bay. otherwise very cold out there through tuesday. then we'll increase the clouds and get into somewhat milder air mass by tuesday. so mid 60s this is livermore in the afternoon, slightly above average. monday, tuesday and then dropping off just into the 50s by the afternoon. wednesday, thursday, friday. first storm system very weak. one slides to the south of us. this is wednesday. thursday another one coming from the north could give us some sierra snow. those days to this forecast model looks like it's a little bit overdone but wants to give us rain from north all the way down to southern california. not sure i buy that, but the good news is hopefully we are going to get a little rain out of that. 64 in oakland, 66 in san jose, the accuweather seven day forecast several cold mornings and then we'll look for some clouds tuesday shower chances better for us on wednesday and thursda
