talk about how progressive he is , is and how well california is doing against florida. and then desantis is going to do the same thing with newsom. >> local democrats say newsom is likely to hit desantis on issues like abortion and lgbtq rights, while also touting california's strong tech based economy. they tell me the governor will also try to be an advocate for president biden. >> when we're talking about providing the basics like health care, infrastructure, new jobs, energy, those are the things that we have really focused on in california and having, you know, the fifth largest economy in the world on the other side of the aisle. >> desantis supporters say the florida governor will attack newsom for things like california's declining population and its drug and homelessness crisis. they believe the debate is a good way to showcase desantis florida model and gain momentum for his current presidential campaign. >> the blueprint that he has in florida seems to be working. the economy is good down there. you know, he's protecting children in schools from what he believes is, you know, not proper to be teaching them.

>> while both newsom and desantis are expected to talk about the main issues of the 2024 election, many experts believe this debate is about a lot more than just that. they say it's a chance for both of them to solidify their long term political goals. >> most likely, they're not thinking about running against each other in 2024, but maybe next time, right? >> maybe sometime down the line. no matter what side of the political spectrum you may be on, many think this debate will be one worth watching. >> i think it might be entertaining just because they are so different in san francisco, tim johns, abc seven news and with the upcoming 2024 election, meta is unveiling a new list of policies to combat deceitful social media advertising. >> these new policies include not showing any new ads in the final week before the election, disclosing content made by artificial intelligence to weed out the deep fakes labor owing people appearing in the ads as either real or fictional and ad prohibiting ads that discourage

he sells and uses most people who are buying. >> what are they looking for? what they're looking for like, you know. they're not really feeling good. and he says it's cheap and easy to get and they might want something for five bucks, only got $5 on them. >> how much do you get for $5? >> well, you know, a nice amount. >> this says san francisco is on pace for its deadliest year yet amid the drug overdose crisis. >> the chief medical examiner has recorded 692 accidental overdose deaths so far this year. the majority caused by fentanyl and to combat crisis. the city set aside nearly $600 million for behavioral health services. in the past, fiscal year. money going towards everything from more treatment beds to the street crisis team. the city is also working to get life saving naloxone spray or narcan, into more hands, doling out more than 70,000 doses so far this year. >> hey, we're going to give you some narcan. hello. hello >> hello. and just a block away

from city hall, a sheriff's deputy reverses an overdose. >> can i give you this? >> and back in the tenderloin, another life is saved. it's exactly why a group of activists set up this pop up safe consumption site earlier this year. >> what we're doing today is that we're showing how simple it can be to save lives. we're not putting anyone at risk, including ourselves. >> richards fighting addiction to fentanyl and says having a place to go to use is a relief. >> it'd be really nice if this place would pop back up again, but i don't know what does it take? >> the city has been hesitant to greenlight safe consumption sites, citing legal concerns, but the mayor has signaled support for the new york model, where a local nonprofit is funding and operates three sites that other communities have. and as local leaders look to new york city for solutions, los angeles is turning its eyes to san francisco. >> one of the things i appreciate about what san francisco is doing in recent months is that shift to focusing

on especially the folks that are manufacturing and distributing this poison. >> 401. san francisco is now more than six months into a multi agency effort to shutter the open air drug market. >> part of what we're getting from the governor is some help, some support resources. >> governor gavin newsom sending in california highway patrol and national guard to support police. but some say the city's gone too far. from arresting drug users to the mayor's proposal to drug test welfare recipients that destroyed moves the mayor defended in a recent interview with martha raddatz. >> no, it's not always the popular thing to do. and this is not about right or left. this is about do we want to save lives and back on the streets, a stark reminder of the struggle to get sober. >> some it's clean. some may test dirty. for myself, i can give you an answer because i go days and i don't. i go go days and i don't honestly. >> and on one of those days when

statement opposing a resolution an he said it will not end the violence in the middle east and will only increase hatred at home. >> a private funeral will be held tomorrow for former first lady rosalynn carter. a public memorial was held today at emory university in atlanta. her husband, 99 year old former president jimmy carter, attended the ceremony under a doctor's care. all living first ladies were also in attendance, as well as president biden. rosalynn carter was remembered as a person whose life was dedicated to helping others. there will be a motorcade and funeral procession as part of tomorrow's services. well, a new drug could keep our dogs around for much longer. >> today, the san francisco based company that created the drug reached a new milestone. company loyal says the food and drug administration gave it a technical section complete for its drug known as a loi one. that means the fda agrees that loyal's data proves the drug's effectiveness. >> loi one is designed to help extend a dog's lifespan and

the roadways now on from san francisco down the peninsula, you will notice some moderate pockets of rain right around millbrae foster city heading into the redwood shores area and also up in the north bay dry creek road, napa, you're getting some good rain falling right now. area of low pressure is getting closer. we're seeing the intensity pick up and off the coastline. there is some instability. so we're going to put in the possibility of thunder as well. temperatures right now mainly 40s and 50s. so we have traded that winter chill, winter like chill for milder weather. 39 degrees, though, in fairfield. the roads are slippery. this is the view from our golden gate bridge camera. the showers arrive late tonight. they've already arrived. excuse me for that. wet for the morning commute. unsettled pattern continues into the weekend. it's a level one storm tonight. tomorrow morning, rain, brief downpours, slick roadways. and watch out because it is breezy to gusty in spots. that slight possibility of

thunder during the morning commute as well. while you're sleeping, you might hear the pounding of the rain on the pavement. if you're a light sleeper as we head into 5 a.m, notice the widespread rain with some heavier pockets moving through 7:00 am. it's still pretty wet. 9 a.m. you start to notice less of the activity. there will be some scattered showers around and it's pretty much winding down in by the lunch hour. rainfall estimates have gone up since we last talked. so most of you are in that five hundredths to about one half an inch category. there are some isolated spots that are picking up more than that. by tomorrow afternoon, morning, temperatures will be primarily in the 40s, 50s, a few 30s though with breezy conditions to start the day tomorrow afternoon. you're looking at mid 50s to the mid 60s, a mix of sun and clouds. as we check out the accuweather seven day forecast. it's a level one for tomorrow. a wet morning, a dry afternoon thursday in the afternoon there's a slight chance of a few showers a morning, slight chance on friday and then now level one
