[ laughter ] she could not wait to see the ending. i think she was happy with it. now she's curious if there will be a golden bachelorette. >> lot of people are. okay. >> also this morning, we're looking at becky worley. she is going shopping at warehouse clubs to find savings for your holiday shopping list. ginger is tracking two storms on both coasts. the flood threat moving east and the winter storm targeting the west. we want to get right to the war in the middle east. the cease fire has ended. combat operations resumed overnight after israel accused hamas of violating the truce and warned residents to leave parts of southern gaza. plus there's a new report that claims israel had an intelligence report about the hamas attack months before october 7th but dismissed the report. martha raddatz join us from washington. good morning, martha. >> reporter: good morning, george. from the moment the attack on israel began, it was clear this was a massive intelligence and military failure on the part of the israelis. but this report, which dropped overnight, spells it out in horrifying detail. this morning the horrors of october 7th, the lapses in

security, the planning by hamas laid out in a stunning report. the "new york times" saying israeli officials had the hamas battle plan in their hand for more than a year before hundreds of hamas fighters stormed into israel and slaughtered more than 1,200 people. but the times says the hamas plan was dismissed by the israelis, who believed it would be too difficult for hamas to carry out. according to "the times" israeli military obtained a 40-page hamas document last year, which they code named jericho wall, calling for a barrage of rock rockets at the outset of the attack, drones to knock out the security cameras and automated machine guns along the border, nearly the exact scenario that played out on october 7th. "the times" saying israeli intelligence dismissed the plan

as aspirational, but hamas followed the blueprint with shocking precision. reportedly practicing breaching the gates and storming a kibbutz, paragliding into the community, all of which the world saw executed with lethal precision on october 7th. the idf showing me where the hamas infiltration began, just as the report said it would. this is the gate where the hamas terrorists broke through one of 30 locations where they gained access. but "the times" says one israeli analyst tried to raise a red flag on the report just three months before the attack. an analysts for the israeli intelligence agency warning, it's a plan designed to start a war, adding it's not just a raid on a village. her warning dismissed. abc news has not reviewed the document and the israeli military has declined to comment on "the new york times" reporting. but a senior u.s. official

telling abc news, the americans have not been made aware of this document. eva? >> martha raddatz, thank you. now to the end of the cease fire between israel and hamas. the idf resuming operations accusing the militant group of violating the agreement. matt gutman is on the ground in israel with the latest. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, eva. we've been hearing continuous shelling and machine gunfire from that gaza neighborhood you see behind me. that cease fire lasting for a week and a few minutes. hamas firing rockets into israel. israel responding with air strikes. mediators in qatar saying negotiations are on going but that fighting complicates matters. this morning intense fighting reported in the gaza strip. israeli air strikes pounding the strip just minutes after the cease fire ended. israel saying hamas violated the truce by firing rockets from gaza. smoke billowing from buildings, streets strewn with rubble, the shelling centered on southern gaza. israel dropping leaflets urging

residents to flee even further south, warning areas that they were told to go are no longer safe. overnight we pressed the idf on that. you are saying southern gaza could look like northern gaza? >> i'm saying if hamas is in southern gaza, we have no choice but to go after hamas where they are located. >> reporter: hospitals filled with the wounded, brought in on ambulance and donkey cart. this child with a head wound tended to by his sister. it comes hours after u.s. secretary of state antony blinken in the region, urging israel to better protect civilians in gaza. >> i made it clear that before israel resumes major military operations, it must put in place humanitarian civilian protection plans that minimize further casualties of innocent palestinians. >> reporter: the u.n. saying around 1.8 million palestinians have been displaced and even with some aid coming in, the world food program warning families are on the edge of starvation. the fighting coming just hours after the most recent group of hostages was freed by hamas, a

21-year-old and her family, this embrace 55 days in the making. her mother weeping when she learned mia would be coming home, one of eight hostages released by hamas thursday, 110 released since the cease fire began. and in the west bank, cheers as 30 more palestinian prisoners released from israeli jail, 240 women and minors released in total. more than 130 hostages still believed held in captivity in gaza. >> it's a nightmare. >> reporter: one of the eight americans missing is judy's mom. last time they were seen was during their morning walk on october 7th. americans missing. are you assuming your mom is not alive? >> no, i'm not assuming anything. my mind kind of travels, dead, alive. when you don't know, your mind fills with guesses. >> reporter: both israeli and u.s. officials are saying they no little about the condition of the hostages or even their where abouts. this morning hamas releasing a statement saying they offered israel a smaller list of

hostages and the bodies of hostages but that israel rejected it. israeli source saying this time they are not going to hold their fire as negotiations take place. they say the only reason they will actually stop fighting now is if hamas releases at least ten additional hostages. george? >> matt gutman, thanks. to capitol hill where george santos faces a vote to expel him from the house after he was accused of stealing money from his campaign for personal use. lawmakers debated his house last night. the vote later today. senior congressional correspondent rachel scott has the story. good morning, rachel. >> reporter: george, good morning to you. even congressman george santos says he is expecting to be expelled from congress in just a few hours. his own fellow republics turning against him, calling him a stain on the house of representatives, and they want him out now. this morning congressman george santos says he's preparing to be expelled from congress, making a defiant last stand. >> i have been convicted of no crime, mr. speaker. >> reporter: but one republican after another insisting they've

seen enough. >> he has manufactured his entire life to defraud the voters of his district. representative santos sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his house candidacy. >> reporter: the house ethics committee spent months interviewing 40 witnesses and pores over 172,000 pages of documents. their conclusion, santos blatantly stole money from his campaign to pay for rent, designer goods and even botox. why do you want to stay in office? >> it's not up to them. >> reporter: santos has already been charged with 23 federal counts including identity theft and credit card fraud. he has pleaded not guilty. some republicans expressing reservations about expelling a member who hasn't been convicted of a crime. >> kicking out mr. santos is setting a very dangerous precedent. >> reporter: santos says these allegations are serious, but he is concerned about going to prison. if he is expelled today, he would be the sixth member of the

house to be voted out, but the very first republican. a special election would then happen in the next 90 or so days. this would be a very tough seat for republicans to keep, george. >> rachel scott, thanks. now to the debate between ron desantis and gavin newsom. a red state/blue state showdown. chief washington correspondent jon karl is here with highlights. >> good morning, george. yes, it was billed as the red state versus blue state debate. the republican governor of florida facing off against the democratic governor of california. a preview perhaps of some of the issues, if not the candidates, we could see debated in next year's general election campaign. at the start of the debate, california governor taunted florida governor ron desantis, who is running, but trailing badly with a reminder that neither of them would likely be on the ballot next fall. >> there's one thing in closing that we have in common is neither of us will be the nominee for our party in 2024.

>> reporter: the debate was, however, something of a foreshadowing of the case republicans will bring against president biden. >> people used to be able to work hard and get ahead. that is not true under joe biden. >> reporter: and the defense democrats can offer of what newsom called bidenomics. >> 3.9% unemployment. the lowest black unemployment in american history. the lowest unemployment for hispanics in american history. the lowest unemployment for women in 70 years. the lowest black poverty rates in history. >> reporter: for desantis, it was a chance to try to inject some energy into a campaign that badly needs it, as newsom gleefully pointed out. >> you're trolling folks trying to find migrants to play games so you can outtrump, trump. how's that going for you, ron? you're down 41 points in your own home state. >> reporter: less than a year ago, desantis was leading donald trump in polls of republican voters. but he has been losing ground for months. now trailing nikki haley. >> no one will outwork me in this race.

>> reporter: this has been a big week for haley. she won the endorsement of perhaps the most well funded conservative grass roots organization in the u.s., americans for prosperity. but the reality is that donald trump, who has refused to debate anybody in this race, still has a commanding lead over both haley and desantis, at least for now, although, george, that lead is smaller in iowa and new hampshire, which vote first. >> trump does face a gag order. >> he does. the judge in new york, a panel of judges, reinstated a limited gag order. this just prevents him from attacking employees of the court. while the gag order had been suspended, he had gone after on very personal terms the clerk of the court. he had also gone after the judge's family. this limited gag order, by the way, doesn't prevent him from going after family members or anybody else, just employees of the court. >> he went after the family with false claims. >> false claims. by the way, that clerk had received dozens of threatening phone calls to her cell phone and also via social media to her

e-mail. she was facing real threats as a result of those attacks. >> jon karl, thank you very much. demarco? turning to a new development in the gilko beach serial killer case. law enforcement saying a cheek swab sample taken from rex hueurman's wife matches dna found on the victims. >> reporter: this is an important development for prosecutors as they decide whether to charge the alleged serial killer with additional murders. this morning law enforcement sources tell abc news dna found on the body of at least one of the women dumped on long island matches dna from the estranged wife of accused killer rex hueurmann. she was seen walking into court last month. followed by a documentary film crew. investigators had taken a sample from her cheek the day hueurmann was accused of killing three women he had solicited for sex. the sources say that sample matched genetic material found on burlap used to wrap the body

of megan waterman. prosecutors believe the dna match strengthens the case against hueurmann. they have previously cleared his wife of any wrongdoing saying she was out of town when the killings occurred. >> this is something different but adds to the evidence you have. >> it brings it back to that household. that's what's important. it is unusual. it doesn't come up every day. >> reporter: hueurmann has pleaded not guilty to killing three women, waterman, costello and melissa bartholomay. prosecutors say he's the prime suspect in the killing of a fourth. maureen barnes. investigators believe they are now close to a decision whether to charge hueurmann with a fourth murder. as of yet they've tied him to no additional homicide cases either on long island or elsewhere in the country. eva? >> aaron, thanks. now to the stock market. dow jones jumping to a new closing high for the year. elizabeth schulze has details. good morning, elizabeth. >> reporter: good morning, eva. this is good news for your 401k or investment account.

the stock market just closed out its best month in more than a year. the dow jones industrial average surged 521 points in trading thursday. that's up about 1.5% to the highest level this year. for the month of november, dow gained an impressive 9% for the average 401k balance that translates to an increase of about $9,500. what's driving this rally is hope that inflation is cooling enough that the federal reserve will be done raising interest rates. those higher rates are weighing on consumers who have slowed down their spending from that break neck pace earlier this year. the big picture, traders on wall street tell me that they are optimistic consumers are resilient and the economy is on track to avoid a recession. demarco? >> that's good to know. thank you. now to the law that would ban tik tok in montana. a judge ruling the law unconstitutional. will reeve with the latest. good morning to you, will. >> reporter: good morning. this ban was set to take effect on new year's day.

it would have made montana the first state to block a single app within its borders. but overnight federal judge donald malloy ruled that the ban, quote, oversteps state power and is likely unconstitutional. so at least for now, tik tok will remain accessible to montanans. the state argued tik tok, which is owned by a chinese company, could be used to spy on or indoctrinate citizens. the judge ruling in favor of tik tok saying tik tok has a right to exist as a business and consumers have a right to use it. and suggesting that the montana ban was targeted more of china than protecting consumers. tik tok responding to the ruling saying it was pleased with the result. a spokes person for the montana attorney general calling this a preliminary matter at this point. guys? >> will, thank you very much. coming up, felicity huffman breaks her silence on the college scandal. why she says she did it. plus new details in the legal battle between hall and oates. why daryl hall calls it the

ultimate partnership betrayal. plus, as we count down to christmas, warehouse clubs aren't just for staples. how to find savings on your holiday gifts. but first let's check in with ginger. before all of that rain started falling in southeast texas, houston airport was 16 inches below average for the year. much of houston and a lot of the cities around them got daily records anywhere from 3 to 5 inches of rain. so that will start to take away from the incredible drought that's been set up there. we are watching the two storms. one in the northwest is going to drench the coast and create some huge novel for the northern rockies. we'll get to that. got to focus on the front that produced all that texas rain. it will get joined by a few other pieces of energy and keep it unsettled. that means more rain for your weekend, really new york city down to raleigh. it's icy in the great lakes, especially iowa into western illinois. look at all those alerts including high wind. we're talking 55 mile per hour gusts. there's the onslaught of storms.

24 years. in a statement chief justice john roberts said we, as the supreme court, mourn the loss of a colleague, a fiercely independent believer in the rule of law and advocate for civics education. sandra day o'connor was 93 years old. george? >> we're following headlines. overnight israel resumed combat operations in gaza after the cease fire with hamas ended. hamas accuses israel of violating the truce. a story in the new york times said israel knew about the planned attack but dismissed it. staples said it has been hit by a cyber attack. the company announced the hack thursday, said it impacted online ordering and processing. the retailer said it took steps to mitigate the attack. no word yet if any data was compromised. plus, take a look at this. a rare occurrence in the nhl. a goalie scoring a goal. pittsburgh penguins tristan jarry launches a puck across his

>> reporter: felicity huffman explaining publicly for the first time why she paid a $15,000 bribe for a proctor to correct wrong answers on her daughter's sat test, a decision which landed her in prison. the award winning actress sat down exclusively with kabc's mark brown. >> i know hindsight is 20/20 but it felt like i would be a bad mother if i didn't do it. so i did it. >> reporter: huffman describing the guilt she felt driving her unknowing daughter to take the test. >> i kept thinking, turn around. turn around. to my undying shame, i didn't. >> reporter: the following year the fbi was at her home. she says agents woke her daughters up at gun point before taking her into custody. >> i literally turned to one of the fbi people in a flack jacket and gun and said, is this a joke?

>> reporter: just a few years earlier huffman played on desperate house wives. >> 15,000. >> we don't have that. >> reporter: she was one of the 33 parents including lori louglin and her husband who faced federal charges in the so called varsity blues scheme that made headlines in 2019. huffman pleading guilty to federal charges, paying a $30,000 fine and serving 11 days in prison. part of her mandated community service, huffman worked with a new way of life, an organization assisting formerly incarcerated women. their founder embracing the offer to help. >> i know that she's had a hiccup, but it's not the hiccup. it's how you come through the hiccup. >> reporter: huffman said helping these women an their families has given her own life new meaning, joining the board of directors and the community willing to give her a second chance.

expel santos. 114 voting against it. and two members voting present. this vote narrows the already small majority held by republicans in the house of representatives. prior to the vote speaker of the house mike johnson told republican members to vote their conscience, saying he, himself, would not be voting to expel george santos. many republicans especially the nosh delegation, decided they have had enough. santos, who was inside the house chamber at the time of the vote. he's been a lightning rod for controversy since before he was even sworn into office. his ousting follows the release of a blistering report which accused him of stealing money from his campaign for person use, including paying for rent, for designer clothes, for botox and even for an adult website. the ethics panel spent months interviewing 40 witness, poring over 170,000 pieces of documents

to reach that conclusion. santos has been indicted by a federal grand jury. he's plead not guilty to 23 federal charges. throughout it all he has been defiant, insisting he would force this vote. now he's lost it. let's get right to rachel scott. this was, is a historical moment. george santos, the first person expelled from congress who was not either a traitor to the country, three confederates have been dubbed that previously, or convicted of crimes. he's been convicted of nothing, but the house decided they had enough. >> reporter: we just watched history unfold in the house today. congressman george santos has officially been expelled from congress, making him the sixth member of the house of representatives to be forced out, the very first republican member of the house to be forced out of congress. this momentum has been growing for months. this could not have happened today without the support of

republicans. you had more than 100 republicans say that they support this push to expel congressman george santos from the house. from the moment he walked through the doors here on capitol hill, he's been defiant. he's been accused of lying about his professional resume and background. then he pleaded not guilty to those 23 federal charges including identity theft, wire fraud. it was this latest report from the house ethics committee, which was blistering, accusing him of blatantly stealing from his campaign, using that money to fund trips to atlantic city, botox, designer goods that really caused momentum to grow. the push from republicans who said that he needed to be forced out. here you have it. here we are. they expressed concerns about the precedent this would set. that's why you saw every member of house leadership including mike johnson reject this push to expel congressman george santos. this is effective immediately. as of right now congressman george santos is no longer a

member of congress, terry. >> it is a remarkable moment and a precedent. for practical purpose, the house republican majority has been narrowed in the house of representatives. already very slim. 221-213. what happens next now that the third district congressional districts of new york doesn't have a member of congress. what happens next? >> reporter: yes. terry, republicans were worried about losing a lot of majority here. they went from a four seat edge to a three seat edge. this will make things more complicated for pushing through their ideas in the house chamber. this is is effective immediatel. you will see the governor of new york call for a special election. it would have to happen within 70 to 80 days after getting called. one thing that's important to note. there is no guarantee that a republican can hang on to that district. that's a district president biden won.
