along with cal hall of famer and one time pac ten offensive player of the year, mike pawlawski. yeah, back in the day. >> so fun to watch tonight. >> yeah, fun and also a little surreal. a little sad. but for the washington huskies, is the second time this season that they beat oregon by three. a lot of people thought the ducks were going to get him in this game. but now 13 and oh, they have to be a lock for the playoffs. yeah, well, they came in as a nine and a half point underdog in this game and i think that's exactly what that washington team needed coming in. >> they were playing tight up until that point at the end of the season. but coming into that game tonight as the underdog, boy, they changed the tone in that game. and to beat oregon twice, they deserve that playoff bid. >> yeah, it was a great game. also and you have to know that the committee that picks the four teams, they have to be rooting for georgia and michigan and florida state to take care of business with maybe their third string quarterback just to make it all four undefeateds otherwise you get into the conversation about which one loss team should go in anyway. we could go on for days about

kind of the perfect storm of events that led to the demise of the pac 12. the commissioners, as i like larry scott, drove him to the edge of the cliff and george kliavkoff floored it from there. and it's just terrible. i mean, school presidents, chancellors, espn, fox, a tv network, they put up there that nobody could watch anyway, it culminated with the la schools and ucla deciding to bolt from a league that had been around for more than 100 years, poached by the big ten. the lure more money. oregon and washington would follow the la schools. ague intact, but the tv moneythe just wasn't there. so colorado, utah and the arizona schools fled for the big 12. that left cal and stanford basically begging their way to get into the acc. oregon state and washington state left out becoming the pac two. so sad and surreal, too. i mean, this game was great tonight, but for this conference to not be playing football, it's just i still have such a hard time believing it. >> nobody alive was around when there wasn't a pack of some sort, and to lose the pac 12 place where so many of us left

their pound of flesh out on the field and we bled for it and we sweated for it and we worked for it. and it's part of what we do. i actually have the block c from cal on my arm and part of that is being part of that pac 12. and so, so many great players in the history of the conference. it's really sad to see it go. >> yeah. among those bummed out by the demise of the conference, 49 ers defensive lineman eric armstead, he went to oregon. it's really a staple in college football and it's going to be extremely weird. >> you know, i think weird for the entire west coast of our country. not to have a pac 12. it's going to be really weird. >> yeah. getting used to the acc is going to be very weird, but i'm going to make a bold prediction here. you can you want to write this one down? i'll write it down. yeah, please go ahead. i think the pac 12. the pac. something is going to be back because i think i think it may take five years. i don't think ten years, whatever it's going to take. i think the setup with the acc and the big 12 and the big, this is going to be such a catalyst atrophy, not

necessarily for football teams, but for all the other non revenue sports. >> i feel badly for the non revenue athletes. this is a brutal deal for them to have to travel across country and i keep hearing things from administration. oh they're going to stay for a week. oh, they're going to do this. so much for student athletes. if that's the case. and the nil money extends to your revenue sports. but it's not so much the case for your non revenue sports, your olympic sports aren't getting the same nil money and yet if they have to have the same travel schedule, it is brutal for those teams. so i feel for them. i feel for oregon state, i feel for washington state. but any time you get a mix of incompetence and arrogance like you did around the pac 12 as it was going out, that's what you end up with. >> yeah, well, you had a decade of that and it led to, like i said, the perfect storm of just horribleness. yes. anyway, i do think i do think they're going to reconstitute because i think it's going to be unworkable with all the travel and the kids doing homework at 30,000ft and all these the other sports will be impacted. so that's my hope, that sanity prevails. but, you know, who knows sports. see, let's have some fun. back in 1991, mike was the pac ten

co-offensive player of the year threw for more than 2500 yards, 21 touchdowns. you guys crushed clemson in the citrus bowl before the season. now before the season, my mic on the mic offense with the tools that we have is going to challenge for the tops in the nation somewhere. >> you know maybe not number one, but we'll be up there. it's an honor to be up there in the top ten. you know, not many teams get to make it up there. there's only ten of us. and it's nice to be one of them. >> so you guys went ten and two that year under coach bruce snyder. great man. you beat poor pacific 86 to 24. mike you had to lay 86 on them. they deserved it. >> they don't even have a football program anymore after what you did to them. >> poor pacific tigers. >> yeah, it was, it was a great year there. there's some great players. you're seeing them here. this is maybe my favorite throw of my whole college career to sean dawkins. we just lost this year. but a fantastic player, great teammate, russell white. you just see there, brian trey says, i mean, the greats on

purdy played the whole game. they're ready to settle things on the field this sunday. >> talk is cheap, you know, they get to come back in their lane. it was a lot of boos last year, a lot of crying, a lot of what if a lot of this, a lot of that they get a chance to come back in here, line up and prove it again? >> am i going to go into the game saying i want revenge and all this kind of stuff? it's not like that, you know, so i'm just going to try to go do my job and be the best brock that i can be for this team. >> just truly trying be in the moment, embrace the moment and enjoy the moment. >> i think it's always tougher when the moments a lot bigger outside of the building just because obvious ramifications. >> neither team finished the job , so it's not like they're looking back and reminiscing on an nfc champion chip win either. we were both sad at the end of the year, there's more media people this week at practice. >> i've seen all year. you guys tend to make things a little bit bigger than they are. it's week 13 game. yes, it's against the philadelphia eagles. yes, they're the one seed. we're fighting for potential seeding.

yes. that's all big. yeah >> so we sometimes make things bigger than they are. but this is really big and it's huge for brock purdy. the niners have said over and over again just another game just taking care of business one game at a time. how can that be? especially for purdy? you're going back into the same stadium in which you got injured, got knocked out, needed surgery. it can't just be oh, it's just another given, you know, it feels like that. >> but these guys as football players are gladiators, right? they're going into battle every single week. and i love nick bosa's point more than anybody is neither team got the ultimate prize. and so in the end, you want to take that win and continue on and if you don't get it, it's just a loss. and so you don't take that personally. you don't take it as you know, this is a revenge game and quarterbacks can't even get revenge, to be honest with you. they go out and they throw passes. >> well, if you threw like 3 or 4 touchdowns, that would. >> yeah, but it's not the same as like hitting somebody. you know, linebackers can get revenge. >> that's true. so how does brock purdy block out all the outside? i don't care what

everybody's saying in interviews inside. do you have butterflies when you go into that kind of situation? yeah, you're fine. >> i mean, it's another nfl game for him. he's going to go out there, he's studying the game plan. he's working on it. you always take a risk of getting injured every game. and so that's just what it is. and it's shocking that more quarterbacks don't get hurt, to be quite honest with you. but he's just going to go out, dedicate himself to the game plan and play like he has if he stays dialed in, focused into his game, he's going to play very well. he has been executing the offense at a really high level. his anticipation has been great. that's a great this is yeah, that's a great throw. and he's and he's playing against a high level team. and so he needs to bring that kind of concentration, that kind of focus to this game. you listen to everybody talking about the moment, right? that's the cliche word around sports right now being in the moment. but that's what he's got to do. just play for this play. don't worry about anything else. play right now. >> and the 49 ers, strangely, too many are favored against the ten and one eagles who have the best record in football at this point.

>> niners are playing pretty well right now and when healthy, all i want to see is brock play the whole game. >> everybody stay healthy healthy, both sides. i mean there's obviously injuries at this point of the season but the key guys will be out there and let the chips fall where they may. >> exactly. offensive targets if they're all their defense, give guys the defensive keys. if they're all there, it could be a heck of a game. the buck i bookends converging. >> i like it. yeah. we'll see. we'll see. we'll see the show. also you know, that's coming to more to come on toyota after the game. take a look at some of our favorite plays in the pac 12 history.

>> right. mike leach is air raid and the air raid is penetrating the nfl now and it's all over the place in terms of what they do. he and hal mumme, you got to give hal credit, too. but those guys together, developing the air raid changed football just for fun after the show, google mike leach giving wedding advice. >> it's fantastic. fantastic. all right. let's get to our jack in the box now. serving everything. plays we figured might as well look at some of our best moments from the conference over the years. so we'll serve up some action starting with january first, 2016. the number here is well, wait a second, i'm in the wrong spot. no, i am no marshall on lynch scored the game winning touchdown against washington and that that's the beast beast mode taking the cart for the ride. that was 2006. october 21st. i was so excited to get to christian mccaffrey because you're talking about the 49 ers 2016, a season 368 yards. mccaffrey sets a rose bowl record for all purpose yards. this is a 25 yard run early in the fourth quarter that pushed his yardage total to 358, finished with 368, which is such

an unbelievable college football player. >> the fact that he didn't get the heisman, the fact that the pac 12 didn't get the attention it deserved was a shame. >> pac 12 after dark took the east coast out of play for a lot of the best christian mccaffrey games. but the all time favorite has to be 1982. the band is on the field. the band is on the field with your old partner, joe starkey, my former partner, joe starkey. >> the call that just lives on and on and on. greatest play ever in college football and that is a fantastic one that you see about a thousand times during big game week. if you're a cal player. >> i still have some stanford buddies who insist his knee was down. his knee was like decades later, we're still arguing about this. wrap it up real quick. can washington hang with let's say if it's georgia or michigan in the playoffs? >> washington just beat oregon for the second time. oregon is as good as any team in college football. i'm telling you, they can take anybody, any comers.

week, every month, every year, shinn says. >> for seven years, he was looking for his new location in emeryville made sense. >> i knew emeryville was up and coming. i took a tour of the area of the mall of bay street, really was excited about everything that they were doing, developing, bringing in, wanting to be a part of that. >> it's one of five new restaurants to open just in the past few weeks, driving the mall's makeover. >> it's really exciting, actually, looking at all the new places it makes emeryville like a more of a spot for students like us to be here. >> it does. and big name stores left during the pandemic. there was a 35% vacancy until the new owners took over about two years ago. emeryville mayor john bauder says the new restaurants are helping to revitalize the area, bringing people into your city is critical to not just the city's economic success, but it's actually a huge component of actually improving public safety and livability. >> so people in india is like a fig tree. >> so in the early days, people used to sit under fig tree, which is called a peepal tree, and then they used to chit chat,

discuss things, have a lot of food. >> that sense of community is what rahul bamri is trying to capture at bay street. just eat. in its second week, the emeryville spot joins his four other michelin recognized indian restaurant sites. >> the response is pretty good. people are liking the food, people liking the ambiance that we've created. so i think it should be a good destination for foodies in emeryville, anser hassan abc7 news san francisco skyline could soon get a new addition. >> a new skyscraper would be over 800ft tall and provide more housing. abc7 news reporter ryan curry has a look at the project. the skyline of san francisco could change in the next four years. >> this 840 foot building on howard street could go in near the salesforce transit center. if finished, it will be the third tallest building in the city. but the indicators are clear. you know, they're unambiguous. even capital d downtown is on its way back. bay hill ventures is a developer. they plan to put it right over this parking lot. the whole

building will be housing. we showed the renderings to san francisco residents who say it will make the city look different. i mean, it's going to be that next to salesforce. >> so it'll be the two kind of eye poppers. >> the building won't require approval from the planning commission or the board of supervisors. that's because it's being built under a state law that allows affordable housing projects to be streamlined. >> and hopefully they don't mess it up like they've done for most of the other buildings in this neighborhood. >> it's a little hard to imagine that a 70 plus story building is going to get built right in this little parking lot. but that's what's on the table. and some people we spoke with hope it creates necessary jobs. >> hoping it actually goes place, not only for the housing in san francisco because housing is needed everywhere nowadays, but not but for work as well for the union members and everybody else. >> oscar mazariegos is a carpenter as he looks at the renderings, one thing crosses his mind. necessary work. >> this will be a lot of work for a lot of members for at least a couple of years because

impacted millions of lives. >> he was part of a court that helped move all of us forward to a more fair and equal society. >> o'connor forged a path for women in law. she was often the decisive vote on a narrowly divided court. she wrote landmark opinions on abortion, affirmative action in john trasvina is a former dean of usf law school. >> she has had an impact not only on the court in the continuation and ultimately the end of affirmative action. as we know as we know it, but also on on young women and on everybody. >> o'connor's first job out of law school was deputy county attorney of san mateo. san mateo, d-a's office posted this on formerly twitter, quote, we mourn the loss of former supreme court justice sandra day o'connor. a stanford law grad in 2014 inductee into the san mateo women's hall of fame, who before the first female justice, got her first job as a lawyer here. liz lee san francisco entrepreneur and mother, shared

this message on x about meeting the supreme court justice. years ago, quote, when you're 16 years old and they let you spend an hour with sandra day o'connor for taking first in the nation for constitutional debate. but it stays with you for a lifetime , i'm rip. justice o'connor, before and after o'connor stepped down from the supreme court. her career included hearing cases in the ninth circuit in san francisco in the newsroom. suzanne phan abc7 news and our team spoke with san mateo. >> district attorney steve wagstaffe today, sharing his own memories about justice o'connor. he says she struggled to land a job coming out of stanford law school and the san mateo da's office was the first place to hire her. justice o'connor was one of the most gracious, graceful, wonderful people anybody could ever meet. she we're talking about a person who was communicated with leaders of state presidents. she herself was one of the most significant historical figures in our

country. and yet when you talk to her, she made you feel like you were just as important as her. she was so, so interested in you and not herself. that is a trait not often found in people who rise to these levels of power. at the time she joined the office, there was one other woman, but there were not many women. and today in my office of 66 prosecutors, 42 are women and 24 are men. and every one of them knows that it was sandra day who punched the hole in that ceiling and made it where, you know what? we just to be a good prosecutor, you just need to be a good lawyer. it doesn't matter what your gender is. and that remains a legacy in our office. glowing praise indeed, from the san mateo district attorney. his office shared this photo, the last one of them altogether. this was about nine years ago. it shows wagstaffe alongside justice o'connor and both former district attorneys. keith sorensen and jim fox, who have also passed away. >> all right. well, the weekend

is here and we need to know about the weather. >> we do indeed. and we know who to ask for that meteorologist sandhya patel is here with the forecast. >> sandy. yeah, and the forecast does include a mix of some showers and some sun clouds for the weekend. so dan and let's take a look at a live picture right now from zephyr cove where you saw at the top of the show there were some flurries. light snow is still being reported around blue canyon. >> we are looking at live doppler seven. and you will notice that snow coming in across 8-80 and blue canyon. we're going to continue to see a few more inches of snow over the weekend. we had a few inches in the last 24 hours. here's a look at live doppler seven. and as we get you into street level radar, you will notice that there is some rain right around airport street, granada, skyline boulevard is just really light, spotty showers and same thing in the east bay from moraga, saint mary's road, skyline boulevard, foothill boulevard, seeing a few sprinkles right now. not all of that is hitting the ground. there will be some more shower activity coming in. there is an atmospheric river that is going to be aimed right at the pacific

northwest for the weekend and into early next week. multiple rounds of stormy weather. that's where all the energy is going. and typically with an el nino year, you do see that materializing. several feet of snow expected, a heavy rain expected. i just checked some of the rainfall reports last 24 hours, inch, inch and a half up there. now for us. we're getting a little bit of the moisture from up around northern california. it's not going to be a lot, but we will see some out ahead of it. visibility has dropped with some fog around santa rosa just over a mile there. same thing for half moon bay, one mile visibility right now. so keep that in mind from our emeryville camera. a lovely view as we look back towards san francisco mid-fifties from san francisco to oakland, san jose and half moon bay, palo alto, you're at 52 degrees. look at this view from our santa cruz camera. it's all calm there along the coastline. low 50s, napa, santa rosa, 55 right now in concord and 53 in livermore. one other live picture along the embarcadere area. it's not quite as breezy as it was yesterday, if you recall. so isolated

showers through this evening, scattered showers tomorrow. milder weather coming our way next week with chances of rain on our storm impact scale. this is a light level one for tomorrow. we're looking at scattered showers, slippery roadways, certainly a little breezy with areas of low visibility. so as we go hour by hour notice the wet weather 10:00 tonight, seeing some spotty returns by 7 a.m. a little more coverage in terms of the wet weather across the region, 9 a.m. if you have plans, watch out. the roads will be slippery. and as we head towards the early afternoon, still some scattered showers showing up around 3 p.m, most of the energy, though, starts to lift northward as we head towards 7:00. and then there may be a lingering shower or two on sunday morning in the north bay. rainfall projections with this system anywhere from nothing measurable up to about 2/10 of an inch. but if you're in the mountains, you'll pick up a little bit more than that. your morning temperatures will be in the 40s, 50s for most of you. 39, though, in morgan hill. make

sure you have an umbrella. you'll be just fine. it's not a weekend washout. temperatures tomorrow afternoon, 50 and 60s and here's your accuweather seven day forecast it's a one for tomorrow and then we'll go with basically the showers winding down a slight chance in the morning on sunday in the north bay. after that we're going to go with a milder pattern late fall warmth bringing temperatures up into the 70s around the bay. no kidding. yeah, it's unbelievable. for december and then chance of rain returns again wednesday and on friday, ama and dan. >> good. all right. good pattern. thanks, andy. >> now the latest from the abc7 news i-team, the pastor of an east bay church that serves immigration immigrants excuse me, from central america is under arrest, accused of sexually assaulting one of his congregation when she was 13 years old. pastor victor hernandez faces four counts of child sexual assault and three counts of kidnaping. the i-team was there as he arrived at the richmond police department to be booked. hernandez is held on $7 million bail. a police spokesman told the i-team's dan noyes why they decided to make the arrest today. i believe he may have

comes as a search is underway in los angeles for a potential serial killer. >> we're asking the public to look at these images and to help us identify the person responsible. >> three people killed in less than a week and the police chief and mayor say they believe the killer is preying on people who are unhoused. >> investigators are now releasing new surveillance images. abc7 news reporter leo stallworth from our sister station in los angeles has more. >> police say they believe a lone suspect has murdered three homeless people in la since sunday. each victim shot to death. police believe a lone suspect targeted the victims walking up on each one and shooting them to death. they say each victim was alone in an alley or sidewalk when they were killed. >> they're isolated there by themselves. so it is we're cautioning that this individual is responsible. who would be responsible could strike us in hollywood, in the san fernando valley on the west side. there is no framing of this.

>> investigators say the first victim killed sunday around three in the morning in the southeast area in an alley at 836 west, 110th street. the victim identified as 37 year old jose palamos. police say the second victim murdered in the central division area around 4:55 a.m. monday in the 600 block of east mateo street. that victim, identified as 62 year old mark diggs. the third victim murdered wednesday around 2:30 a.m. in the hollenbeck division near the intersection of south avenue 18 and pasadena avenue. police will only say that victim was 52 years old, but they are not releasing his name until his family has been notified of his death. police concerned the suspect is preying on the homeless in areas where there are next to no witnesses. and they believe if he's not caught soon, he could target victims outside of the city. >> the vulnerable population is also subject to his actions, his his his murderous actions in other parts of the l.a. region. so this is this is we don't have the ability to cover every
