level one storm this morning. and lisa, i know the roads were wet this morning when i drove into work. yeah. >> and i had to use the wipers. so certainly, depending on where you were, this system is on the move. and as we look at live doppler seven, right now, you can see all the cloud cover and some of the green as we go in closer, you'll notice that it is widely scattered from san francisco over into the east bay, very light return as most of you not seen anything at all. and the northern extent of it off the coast there near davenport port. so this is a light level one system with intermittent scattered showers throughout the day, bringing the slippery roads and some low visibility. at times. the winds out of the south keeping it mild , low 50s here looking at 53 in hayward and san jose and that's significantly warmer than we were yesterday, about ten degrees warmer at this time. so a live look outside a dark exploratorium camera. so we'll keep it cloudy throughout much of the day. and with the isolated shower chance, it's going to be maybe slick from time to time, upper 50s to near

60 for most. on the cooler side. and as we get into the evening hours, we'll still have the clouds. but shower chances diminish. so starting out a little bit on the damp side, we'll talk about a drier second half of the weekend in a few minutes. >> gloria, sounds good. thank you very much, lisa. and keep track of the rain anytime with a same live doppler seven radar that lisa and our entire weather team uses. it's available on demand on the abc seven bay area app. now the latest from the abc7 news i-team, the pastor of an east bay church that serves immigrants from central america is under arrest. he's accused of sexually assaulting one of his congregants when she was 13 years old. pastor victor hernandez faces four counts of child sexual assault and three counts of kidnaping. the i-team was there as he arrived at the richmond police department to be booked. hernandez is held on $7 million bail. a police spokesman told the i-team's dan noyes why they decided to make the arrest at. >> i believe he may have been

aware that he was now under investigation in when that happens, we feel it's important to get them into custody, you know, whether it be to prevent them from fleeing, whether it be to protect the victim. all of those are factors in which it would cause us to accelerate our investigation and take them into custody. >> as you might imagine, the pastor's arrest has shaken all those people who attend the church. abc7 i-team's dan noyes spoke to the alleged victim who is now 21 years old and her parents. her father says that he has heard complaints about the pastor from other congregation members. if you have a story for the i-team, you can call the number on your screen. go to abc7 news.com slash i-team. a group of teachers in oakland are planning a so called palestine teaching day for wednesday. the teachers say that it's a way to elevate palestinian voices and public education amid the ongoing conflict in the middle east. but as abc seven news reporter tim johns tells us, they are already getting pushback from the school district and local jewish

organizations. >> as the war between israel and hamas continues, so too does the battle in school districts around the bay area. on wednesday, a group of teachers in oakland are planning what they call a palestine teaching. >> it's just a group of teachers and parents who have gotten together and are planning to lead lessons, lead activities that really center palestinian stories and experiences. >> jacob, who asked us not to use his last name, is one of the ousd teachers participate rating, he tells abc seven news. the curriculum the teachers plan on using comes from a variety of sources and is designed for different age groups. that includes an alphabet book on youtube for tk through third graders called p is for palestine. the video mates reference to intifada, an arabic word that means rebellion and has been historically connected to armed uprising by palestinians. the quote from that page says, intifada is standing up for yourself or standing up for what is right, which i think is very age, like

an age appropriate way to interact with that with that term. the oakland unified school district has come out against the teaching. in a statement, they tell abc seven news, quote, the district is aware that some educators want to teach their students about the situation in gaza and israel with a very specific view of who is at fault educators to teach students how to think critically, not to teach them what to think. we are reminding all educators of their response ability to adhere to principles of education and to keep their personal beliefs out of the classroom. those in support of the teaching reject that statement. but the pushback isn't just coming from some local jewish organizations. also think it's inappropriate that includes tyler gregory, the ceo of the local chapter of the jewish community relations council. >> i think that that this curriculum incites violence against jews and israelis and has no place in any school district. >> gregory says his organization has heard from several jewish

families in the district, some of whom plan on keeping their students home from classes. on wednesday. he believes at a time of heightened tensions, the teach in will only further divide the community. >> we're confident that the administration is going to have consequences for those that participate in this. the teachers, because it's totally unacceptable. >> in oakland. tim johns, abc seven news. >> the group behind the teach in makes it clear that they are against anti-semitism, but they feel this is important education. this morning, people are remembering sandra day o'connor, the first woman to serve as a justice on the supreme court. she passed away friday at the age of 93, but you may not know about her connection to the bay area, including her time at stanford. here's abc abc7 news reporter lauren martinez. >> sandra day o'connor is being remembered for her grit and inspiring legacy. o'connor's exceptionalism was evident as one of the few women admitted at stanford university in the 1950s. >> i think people, especially women at stanford, really felt

like she had blazed a trail that people wanted to follow in. >> stanford law professor bernadette meyler said o'connor's years at the university were significant. it was there. o'connor met her classmate and future supreme court chief justice william rehnquist. she also met her husband. she had been an important member of the law review when she was at stanford, and she also met her husband and famously, through the law review , through late night editing, i guess, after law school. o'connor had trouble finding a firm that would hire a woman. her first job was as a law clerk with then san mateo county district attorney keith sorensen . >> in my office of 66, prosecutor shooters, 42 are women and 24 are men. and every one of them knows that it was sandra day who punched the hole in that ceiling and made it where, you know what? we just to be a good prosecutor, you just need to be a good lawyer. >> o'connor ended up working for state governor hunt and

eventually made her way to the high court in 1981. she made history as the nation's first woman to sit on the supreme court. >> she was a justice of very great integrity and also practical sense. >> on october 5th, 1981, o'connor's first day as a justice on the supreme court, five students from stanford proclaimed a day of celebration at the law school. o'connor said it was one of the most touching tributes she had received. >> she brought a somewhat different perspective, not only by being a former legislator, but also by coming from a different area geographically. she just had a lot of perseverance and a lot of sticktoitiveness and approach things with a very positive and welcoming attitude as well in the south bay. >> loren martinez, abc seven news. >> police in los angeles are trying to track down a killer they believe is responsible for shooting three homeless people to death since sunday. this grainy photo was released of the lone suspect in hopes of turning up any information from the

public. they say that each victim was alone in an alley or sidewalk when they were killed in the early morning hours. la mayor karen bass is encouraging the homeless to stick together in groups for the time being. >> do not sleep alone tonight. night. seek shelter. seek services. stay together. >> the lapd is now adding patrols in areas where the homeless sleep on any given night. up to 75,000 people could be found on the streets of l.a. county new this morning, world leaders are meeting for the cop 28 climate change conference in dubai. today, the biden administra ation unveiled rules aimed at cracking down on us oil and gas industry releases of methane. the rules are part of a global plan to address the impacts of climate change. a group of 75 oil companies also agreed to the so called oil and gas decarbonization compact. the deal requires members to reduce emissions by up to 90% within the next five years. officials

get a check of that forecast and see if more rain is in store. coming up in a little bit. if you plan on using public transportation this weekend, there are some service interruptions that you should know about today. bart is suspending service between glen park and daly city to remove trees posing a risk during the light storm. a bus will connect the two stations this weekend. some busses will run directly between glen park and daly city, and others will make a stop at balboa park. green line service will be canceled today and tomorrow. caltrain also has an interruption. trains from san jose, diridon and tamien station will be closed for construction this weekend. bus service will be in place through sunday. so keep that in mind. blue shield of california customers may have had their confidential information stolen from a cyber attack earlier this year. the oakland based health insurer said in a statement that the breached material may have included members names social

security numbers and even private medical information. it happened between may 28th and may 30th of this year. blue shield of california has about 4.8 million customers. san francisco is turning on the lights for the holidays. several buildings are all lit up with unique artistic designs as part of the effort to draw people to the downtown area. abc7 news reporter tara campbell talks to people excited for the return of let's glow. >> and just like that, san francisco's ferry building lit up friday, kicking off lets glow sf the holiday projection event is now in its third year. bill does the largest of its kind in the country. we are one of the most beautiful, creative, innovative, incredible cities anywhere in the world. high tech projectors and lasers are casting large scale art across

the facade of six of the city's iconic buildings, bringing together more than a dozen artists from across the us and around the world. >> we wanted to come see all the fun lights. we grew up in oakland and we certainly haven't seen the event quite at this level. so to see it all begin lit up. >> she sent me the link. so i'm here because she sent me the link. >> the ten day event is designed to drive business back to the downtown was three years ago during the pandemic. >> we were thinking of an idea to activate downtown with some sort of art and light. >> the downtown sf partnership says last year's event drew in more than 51,000 people and created a $3 million impact. not only light up the buildings of san francisco, but it puts such a big smiles on the faces of the over 3 million people who have visited the downtown in years past to support let's glow sf we saw signs for this and decided to show up this mother and daughter duo are visiting from tacoma, washington, and it just sounded like some christmas fun.

hiv. all of that is really very important at nearly 35,000 people become infected in the us every year. >> there's still no cure or vaccine, but people are living longer thanks to new treatments in santa clara county, more than 3700 people are living with hiv. that's according to the most recent data from 2022. 60% of that number are among the hispanic and latino community. experts say that one of the reasons we could be seeing this is lack of access to care because of cost or insurance issues. >> hiv prevention. what what patients can do or persons individuals can do to prevent and protect themselves from acquiring hiv. >> dr. maria lopez is a pharmacist and president of mission wellness pharmacy in san francisco. it is the first pharmacy in california to provide medications that prevent hiv directly to community members. and she says the model

has led to a state bill and is also being replicated in other states. defense secretary lloyd austin paid a visit to silicon valley, along with representing lives from australia and the uk, and the goal of the meeting was to discuss nuclear submarines and other advanced technologies aimed at limiting china's growing military power for australia. the uk and the us entered an agreement known as aukus. it allows the countries to share nuclear sub information and other military technology. >> we're innovating with cutting edge tech in several areas, including artificial intelligence, electronic warfare and quantum technologies and by implementing strong standards of technology protection, we are reducing barriers to sharing information and technology. >> energy australia agreed to buy three us nuclear submarines over the next decade. skiers and snowboarders are hitting the sugar bowl mountain resort for

the first time this season on i like it. >> we finally got some snow. >> we've been here for about 20 years and you know, we've had just this trail open and turned out to be an epic year. so you never can really tell. >> last year at some points we had too much snow to even operate the resort. so it's you know, it's the wild and stormy sierra. you never know what you're going to get while the mountain is covered with snow. >> as you can see right there, there is noticeably, noticeably less of it. this year compared to this time last year. and this forced sugar bowl to delay its opening by about a week this morning, jerome hill and white pine are the only lifts open, including a terrain park and the park gives visitors a taste of what the winter season has in store. so i know a lot of people are excited about the ski season . meteorologist lisa argen tracking the forecast. and here in the bay area, we did see a little bit of rain overnight because i woke up and the roads were wet this morning. >> yeah, we certainly need a lot more of that to help out the sierra nevada. they're going to

see a few flakes of snow. but it locally only about 28% of average in oakland. and about 50% of average. that's not right . not 50. yeah, 52% of average in santa rosa. so we are way behind. but there are signals that we're going to make up for a we shouldn't say delayed start because it is typical to not get too much precip around thanksgiving. it's always a bonus. if you could be skiing by then. and last year certainly an anomaly. live doppler seven right now with the pacific northwest picking up all the rain and snow and a busy week ahead for the pacific northwest where the bay area on the tail end of several systems will show you that in just a moment. but right now, you can see the scattered showers in the city along the coastline here moving out of the north bay, going in closer. you can see south city to 80 is wet down towards montara highway one. a few scattered showers over into the east bay and we take you farther out towards highway four. antioch, a little bit of shower

activity and finally, last stop, saratoga, los gatos, highway 17. certainly the upper elevations there looking at some wet roadways. that's always a difficult road. highway 17, you can see the extent of the showers now moving off of the eventually the central coast there. but they are light. they'll become more intermittent throughout the day. there is some fog there to reduce visibility. 54 half moon bay and pacifica with the south winds. it's miles and fog forming in the north bay. 51 in santa rosa and decked out here, our exploratorium camera, our roof camera, scattered showers this morning and isolated showers this afternoon. we're talking very widely isolated. and then as we get into next week, mild air with chances of rain returning, but nothing too impressive. here's our hour by hour high resolution. look at the cloudy skies throughout most of the day. and you can see the pop up showers through about 10:00 right along the coast here, the peninsula. this is

into 330 in the afternoon. oakland could pick up a shower. and as we go through the evening hours, really kind of winds down . rainfall amounts. most of you not seeing anything at all. a couple hundredths to about 5/100. but up to the north bay, looking at a little bit more than that, you've already received that. and in the sierra nevada, you can see just a couple of inches. there it is in the 30s from truckee to tahoe valley. so temperatures are hovering around freezing, about three inches, perhaps in kirkwood. this is what i wanted to show you for the week ahead. look at all the rain in the pacific northwest over five inches while much of northern california just picking up maybe a 10th of an inch. so doesn't look like a big event this week, but there are signals that things are going to change by the middle of the month. highs today in the low 60s for fremont , 64in san jose. keeping it a very light level one system with the isolated showers and a lingering chance throughout the north bay on sunday. otherwise,

good morning. i'm gloria rodriguez. we're starting this half hour with the level one storm expected. this morning. here's meteorologist lisa argen and lisa, are we talking a lot of rain today? >> no, it really the most of it has moved through overnight. we talked about over we've seen over a 10th of an inch around orinda for hundreds. fremont and really the sonoma hills picking up about a half an inch of rain. but for the rest of us, trace amounts and we are going to see this level one system linger throughout the afternoon. so there's a look at the wide picture. zooming in live doppler seven right now. and you can see just along the coast there looking at a few scattered showers, getting closer into san francisco to 80, south city, 380, some wet pavement there. light showers all the way down through saratoga. and the summit . not much going on in the east bay right now. we had a few showers overnight and we'll continue to see the widely

scattered movement from the southeast with a mile and a quarter of visibility in novato, some fog forming there. so the light level one system with the slippery roads, areas of breezy south winds. it is 52 in oakland as well as fremont with those south winds and the cloudy skies much milder for to 12 degrees milder this morning. and as we look at the next few hours, you'll notice they are very scattered out there. maybe a trace amount here or there. but overall, the clouds, the cooler conditions today. and we'll talk about how much sun we're going to see for your sunday and the look ahead as we get into december. in a few minutes. >> gloria, son, i like the sound of that. thank you, lisa. well, now to the war in the middle east. the cease fire between israel and hamas ended friday after talks to extend the week long truce fell apart. this morning. israel is ramping up its strikes on gaza. abc news reporter alison kosik tells us what this now means for civil aliens moments after the seven day temporary cease fire ended

and israel resumed its air strikes against the gaza strip, israel hitting over 200 targets, accusing hamas of breaking the truce by firing multiple salvos of rockets at israel. >> much of gaza reduced to rubble, with the wounded being transported to hospitals by ambulance and via donkey cart. a unicef spokesperson describing the horrors inside a hospital. >> we cannot see more children with the wounds of war with the burns, with the shrapnel littering their body, with the broken bones. >> nearly 200 people killed, according to the hamas run gaza health ministry about 1.8 million gazans have fled to southern gaza from the north. israel has said it created a new system to warn civilians of impending fighting, dropping leaflets in southern gaza friday , urging civilians to move to a sliver of land near the coast. what do you expect? >> 2 million palestinians to move into this very, very small

strip of land if they go there, their chances of surviving are much, much higher. >> it came to an end because of hamas. >> the renewed fighting comes amid a report from the new york times saying the israeli military obtained a 40 page hamas document last year, which they codenamed jericho wall calling for a barrage of rockets at the outset of the attack drones to knock out the security cameras and automated machine guns along the border. uh- the times saying israeli military and intelligence officials dismissed the plan as aspirational. all but hamas followed the blueprint with shocking precision, us officials telling abc news there are no indications the us intelligence community was provided. the alleged hamas document in advance. alison kosik, abc news, new york. >> jorge santos is officially no longer a member of congress after the house expelled the republican. the historic vote was 311 to 114. santos has been caught in lies surrounding his

education, career and family background. speaker mike johnson is standing by santos saying that expelling a lawmaker who has not been convicted of a crime would set a dangerous precedent. other republicans disagreed. >> and i think the precedent is, is that we're holding members of congress to a higher standard. >> santos is charged with 23 federal crimes, including identity theft, credit card fraud and money laundering. he has pleaded not guilty. the race to replace santos is expected early next year. the owners of san francisco's stonestown galleria have successfully refinance their $180 million mortgage. owners brookfield confirmed to the chronicle that the refinancing has happened, but the terms are not publicly available. concerns were raised about the mall after brookfield gave up the city's biggest mall, westfield san francisco center. but they say that stonestown is doing much better, surpassing

foot traffic levels seen in 2019. now to the labor negotiations at california state universities. the union represents teachers has called for a one day strike next week at four csu campuses. that includes san francisco state on tuesday, december 5th. no or other. bay area state university will be affected. striking workers include professors librar, counselors and coaches. they are asking for a 12% wage hike. this academic year. san francisco skyline could soon get a new addition. a new skyscraper would be over 800ft tall and provide more housing. abc7 news reporter ryan curry has a look at the project and the reaction from locals. the skyline of san francisco could change in the next four years. >> this 840 foot building on howard street could go in near the salesforce transit center. if finished, it will be the third tallest building in the city. >> but the indicators are clear. they're, you know, they're unambiguous. even capital d down

town is on its way back. >> hill ventures is a developer. they plan to put it right over this parking lot. the whole building will be housing. we showed the renderings to san francisco residents who say it will make the city look different. >> i mean, it's going to be that next to salesforce. so it'll be the two kind of eye poppers. >> the building won't require approval from the planning commission or the board of supervisors. that's because it's being built under a state law that allows affordable housing projects to be streamlined. hopefully they don't mess it up like they've done for most of the other buildings in this neighborhood. it's a little hard to imagine that a 70 plus story building is going to get built right in this little parking lot. but that's what's on the table. and some people we spoke with hope it creates necessary jobs, hoping it actually goes place not only for the housing in san francisco because housing is needed everywhere nowadays, but not but for work as well. >> for the union members and everybody else. >> oscar mazariegos is a carpenter as he looks at the renderings, one thing crosses

would start donating platelets every month on the month anniversary of his death. >> but the empty chairs around him tell a bit of a different story. vitalant a local community blood center, says this time of year historically sees the fewest donors. so far, they're seeing about a 20% drop in donors, despite the recent fda changes expand eligibility. >> one, we don't do any school blood drives over the holidays because school is out. businesses have employees that aren't coming into the office, so we have fewer business sponsored or business supported blood drives. >> but the need for blood hasn't changed. 25% of all donations go to cancer patients undergoing chemo. >> so it is extremely important. it's extremely needed. and you would feel great after you donate. you feel like, hey, i'm doing something wonderful, i'm helping somebody out. >> if you donate blood at any of the six vitalant bay area locations anytime between now

you can see the showers offshore there. also, a few scattered around san francisco, the east bay into the north bay. we go in closer and you can see the richmond-san rafael bridge down highway one towards tiburon. a few showers in the city there, daly city, then across almost at 8-80. these are moving pretty much to the south and east. and as we go into the round 238, fremont, you've picked up about 5/100. and down around the south bay, morgan hill mountain view and pescadero, they're looking at the southern extent pushing just off the coast there around monterey. so this system allowing for the wet tarmac there at the oakland airport. napa, 0.1 to 0.16 in petaluma. 24 hour totals and half moon bay, but 2/10 14/100 over in oakland. you can see milpitas still picking up a little bit of the rain shower activity. 43in mount diablo. otherwise we're all in the 50s with the south

winds and allowing for some fog here. novato pacific. and as we look at our forecast highlights, you'll notice that the scattered showers this morning will continue to sort of stick around throughout the afternoon. they'll be more isolated, but still we're going to hang on to this level. one system and then milder weather as we get into the monday, tuesday time frame. so hour by hour, you can see that the green still with us here through 1030 over around 580. and highway 110. and then as we go into the later afternoon hours, still could see a light shower throughout the day over into the east bay. even the south bay. but amounts very scant. we're talking only 1/100 perhaps for you addition rain through 11:00 around hayward. but the big winners so far over a half inch up in the hills of sonoma county. so the temperatures are cold enough. we'll see a couple of inches here in the mountains, maybe an inch. tahoe city, two inches, donner. but as we go through the

rest of the week, there are additional rain chances. but it's not a big system. in fact, all of the wet weather mainly is headed up into the pacific northwest through december 9th. we're looking anywhere from two to over five inches of rain for portland. and you can see down through santa rosa and san francisco, not a whole lot. but as we look at the trends, we are still thinking that there is a signal for mid-december for things to become a little bit more active, wet here, snowy in the mountains. so we're hoping for that. highs today in the low 60s, so near average, 63 in concord, 64 in san jose with an isolated shower throughout the afternoon. our level one system really not maybe canceling any plans this afternoon, but just knowing that you could get a little bit wet out there into sunday, maybe a lingering shower up in the north bay. otherwise the milder pattern takes shape with upper 60s around the bay and our inland areas, maybe even 73 by tuesday. but that's short
