organizations are calling their plans unacceptable. well, good morning to you. it is saturday, december 2nd. i'm gloria rodriguez and meteorologist lisa argent is here tracking a light level one storm this morning. lisa i know i needed the rain jacket today. >> yeah, and it was certainly slick out there. my tires were kind of having a little bit of a problem, but you may want to get your tree today. could be a little damp out there. here's live. doppler seven. most of the energy is well into the pacific northwest, but we are seeing some scattered showers here taking you into the north bay and san francisco from point ray. scattered showers up towards novato, richmond, 580. also around mill valley and over into hayward with 238 and 880. certainly slick. so as we even press further to the south pescadero highway one the summit looking very slick highway 17 and more showers offshore. so moving to the south and east with some fog up in novato, level one system lingers throughout the afternoon in

scattered showers, slippery roads, breezy at times, low visibility, low to mid 50s, certainly mild out there. much warmer than we have been. so with the cloud cover, that certainly makes it not too cold out there. but certainly if you can delay your start out there, that would be a good idea simply because the roadways are looking at certainly the wet conditions. so as we look at the oakland airport and notice that we'll have scattered light showers isolated with temperatures around 60 throughout the afternoon. gloria. >> thank you, lisa. it certainly wet out there in some areas this morning. so keep track of the rain anytime with the same live doppler seven radar that lisa and our entire weather team uses. it is available on demand on the abc seven bay area app and now the latest from the abc seven news i-team. the pastor of an east bay church that serves immigrants from central america is now under arrest. he is accused of sexually assaulting one of his congregation when she was just 13 years old. pastor victor fernandez or excuse me

hernandez faces four counts of child sexual assault and three counts of kidnaping ring. the i-team was there as he arrived at the richmond police department to be booked. hernandez is held on $7 million bail. a police spokesman told the i-team's dan noyes why? why they decided to make that arrest . >> i believe he may have been aware that he was now under investigation. when that happens, we feel it's important to get them into custody, you know, whether it be to prevent them from fleeing, whether it be to protect the victim. um, all of those are factors in which it would cause us to accelerate our investigation and take them into custody. >> um, and as you might imagine, the pastor's arrest has shaken all those people who go to that church. dan spoke to the alleged victim, who is now 21 years old and also her parents. and her father says he has heard complaints about the pastor from other congregation members. now, if you have a story for the i-team, you can call the number on your screen or you can go to

abc7 news.com slash i-team. a group of teachers in oakland are planning a so called palestine teaching day for wednesday. the teachers say that it's a way to elevate palestinian voices in public education amid the ongoing conflict in the middle east. but as abc seven news reporter tim johns tells us, they are already getting pushback from the school district and local jewish organizations. >> as the war between israel and hamas continues, so too does the battle in school districts around the bay area. on wednesday, a group of teachers in oakland are planning what they call a palestine teaching. >> it's just a group of teachers and parents who have gotten together and are planning to lead lessons, lead activity is that really center palestinian stories and experiences? >> as jacob, who asked us not to use his last name, is one of the ousd teachers participating. he tells abc seven news the curriculum, the teachers plan on using comes from a variety of sources and is designed for different age groups. that includes an alphabet book on

youtube for tk through third graders called p is for palestine. the video makes reference to intifada, an arabic word that means rebellion and has been historic, connected to armed uprisings by palestinians. >> the quote from that page says intifada is standing up for yourself or standing up for what is right, which i think is very age, like an age appropriate way to interact with that with that term. >> the oakland unified school district has come out against the teaching. in a statement, they tell abc seven news, quote, the district is aware that some educators want to teach their students about the situation in gaza and israel with a very specific view of who is at fault and why. it is the job of educators to teach students how to think critically, not to teach them what to think. we are reminding all educators of their responsibility to adhere to principles of education and to keep their personal beliefs out of the classroom. those in support of the teaching reject that statement. but the pushback isn't just coming from some local jewish organizations. also

think it's inappropriate that includes tyler gregory, the ceo of the local chapter of the jewish community relations council. >> i think that this curriculum incites violence against jews and israelis and has no place in any school district. >> but gregory says his organization has heard from several jewish families in the district, some of whom plan on keeping their students home from classes. on wednesday. he believes at a time of heightened tensions, the teach in will only further divide the community. >> we're confident that the administration is going to have consequences for those that participate in this. the teachers, because it's totally unacceptable. >> in oakland, tim johns, abc seven news. >> the group behind the teach in makes it clear they are against anti-semitism, but they feel this is important. education. this morning, people are remembering sandra day o'connor, the first woman to serve as a justice on the supreme court. she passed away on friday at the age of 93, but you may not have

known about her connection to the bay area, including her time at stanford. here's abc seven news reporter lauren martin. >> as sandra day o'connor is being remembered for her grit and inspire legacy. o'connor's exceptional ism was evident as one of the few women admitted at stanford university in the 1950s. >> i think people all especially women at stanford, really felt like she had blazed a trail that people wanted to follow. >> in stanford law professor bernadette meyler said o'connor's years at the university were significant. it wa there. uh- o'connor met her classmate and future supreme court chief justice william rehnquist. she also met her husband. she had been an important member of the law review when she was at stanford, and she also met her husband famously through the law review, through late night editing, i guess after law school. o'connor had trouble finding a firm that would hire a woman for her first job was as a law clerk with then san mateo county district

attorney keith sorensen. in my office of 66 prosecutors, 42 are women and 24 are men. >> and every one of them knows that it was sandra day who punched the hole in that ceiling and made it where, you know what? we just to be a good prosecutor, you just need to be a good lawyer. >> o'connor ended up working for state government and eventually made her way to the high court. in 1981, she made history as the nation's first woman to sit on the supreme court. >> she was a justice of very great integrity and also practical sense on october 5th, 1981, o'connor's first day as a justice on the supreme court, five students from stanford proclaimed a day of celebration at the law school. >> o'connor said it was one of the most touching tributes she had received. >> she brought a somewhat different perspective, not only by being a former legislator, but also by coming from a different area geographically. she she just had a lot of perseverance and a lot of sticktoitiveness and approach

gate park. more than 3000 people who lost their lives to aids were honored. olympic gold medalist diver greg louganis, who was diagnosed with hiv in 1988, was there to share his journey as a survivor. >> for, you know, it really is, you know, about taking care of yourself, being aware, educate yourself. you know how you get hiv, how you don't get hiv, all of that is really very important . >> nearly 35,000 people become infected in the us every year. there is still no cure or vaccine, but people are living longer because of new treatments in santa clara county, more than 3700 people are living with hiv. that's according to the most recent data from 2022 630% of that number are among the hispanic and latino community. experts say that one of the reasons that we could be seeing this is lack of access to care because of cost or insurance

right now. and lisa, we've been talking about that snow. i know people who ski and snowboard are so excited about the seasons. yeah it's kind of a bummer to see all the green there and not looking at a lot of snow. >> we've had just some weak systems, as you know, and this is another light system that will linger throughout the day, but not bringing much in the way of snow or rain to the bay area, enough to get the ground wet, maybe be flexible today if you have some outdoor activities, it's not going to be a total washout, but it's certainly is wet out there. and as we look at live doppler seven, the main activity well to the north in the pacific northwest, while the bay area receives a couple hundredths, maybe 2/10 out there live doppler seven picking up on the line of showers from point rays down through the san mateo coast and even pescadero and the central coast. so as we go in closer, here's a look at lagunitas highway one, bolinas, some wet weather we've had rain up through novato and it is certainly slick out there over into the east bay. it's been raining around the oakland airport. the bay bridge, orinda highway 24 and 680 just north of

walnut creek. so these are all sliding to the south and east. you can see fremont and maybe just a few scattered light showers down through milpitas, 8-80 and san jose and then a line here around pescadero. so in the south bay, even in morgan hill getting into the act. and as we look outside, pretty festive out there, but we are adding up the rain totals just through 24 hours and certainly brought us some wet roadways using the wipers out there, 0.12 in napa, a little more than that in petaluma. but look at half moon bay along the coast here and then the hills of sonoma, over a half inch of rain, 0.2 one half. moon bay, naught .14, oakland and 4/100 in milpitas. so we'll add a couple hundredths here and there throughout the day, but current numbers very mild due to the south. winds 52 in danville, san ramon taking you back to san francisco with mid 50s so fairly uniform and a little bit of fog there up through novato mountain view. so certainly be careful out there if you want to head out and do get the tree. well, it may be a

little bit wet, but overall we're going to look for the cloudy skies and you can see be kind of quiet there. the golden gate bridge. but it certainly had some rain showers earlier. so scattered showers, two isolated showers with our level one system today. and we'll look for milder weather as we get into the monday, tuesday time frame with tuesday being the warmest day before. once again, we're at the south end of a system in the pacific northwest. here's our hour by hour high resolution picture that shows that we could see just a pop up, isolated shower or right on through the afternoon, 10:00 over into oakland, perhaps five 80in san jose, then stopping this at 11:00. but you can see as we'll continue to see, slightly unsettled conditions through the 4 or 5:00 hour. but does it amount to much? no. maybe some of that spray on the highway there 1/100 additionally in hayward and a couple inches here as we get towards donner kirkwood, we'd like to see a lot more right as we go through the

you over into eight 87th street in emeryville. wet weather around alameda and oakland down through san leandro into san lorenzo with 880 bachman road, hacienda avenue, a few light showers hours and then further to the south, you can see from pescadero there. so level one system with us with the scattered showers, slippery roads, breezy conditions, conditions, low visibility. there is a wet oakland airport, 54 in the city and san jose and pier 39 sun not coming up till 707, but we're looking at a quiet start there. 53 in napa with 54 in concord. so milder with the clouds, the south winds as much as 13 degrees milder. but as you look at the hour by hour forecast here, notice that the showers aren't everywhere, but they're still with us through the two, 3:00 hour. and then even as we pass 7:00, we still are going to pick up a few light sprinkles. so not a washout, but certainly kind of a

december. feel out there. we'll talk about the week ahead. coming up. >> gloria, thank you very much. lisa now to the war in the middle east. the cease fire between israel and hamas ended on friday after talks to extend the week long truce fell apart. this morning, israel is ramping up its strikes on gaza. abc news reporter alison kosik tells us what this now means for civilians. >> moments after the seven day temporary ceasefire ended and israel resumed its air strikes against the gaza strip, israel hitting over 200 targets, accusing hamas of breaking the truce by firing multiple salvos of rockets at israel. much of gaza reduced to rubble, with the wounded being transported to hospitals by ambulance and via donkey cart. a unicef spokesperson describing the horrors inside a hospital. >> we cannot see more children with the wounds of war, with the burns, with the shrapnel littering their body, with the

broken bones. >> nearly 200 people killed, according to the hamas run gaza health ministry, about 1.8 million gazans have fled to southern gaza from the north. israel has said it created a new system to warn civilians of impending fighting, dropping leaflets in southern gaza friday, urging civilians to move to a sliver of land near the coast. >> so do you expect 2 million palestinians to move into this very, very small strip of land if they go there, their chances of surviving are much, much higher. >> it came to an end because of hamas. >> the renewed fighting comes amid a report from the new york times saying the israeli military obtained a 40 page hamas document last year, which they, codenamed jericho wall, calling for a barrage of rockets at the outset of the attack drones to knock out the security cameras and automated machine guns along the border. the times saying israeli military and intelligence officials dismissed the plan as aspirational. but hamas followed the blueprint

with shocking precision. you us officials telling abc news there are no indications the us intelligence community was provide the alleged hamas document in advance. alison kosik, abc news, new york. >> jorge santos is officially no longer a member of congress after the house expelled the republican. the historic vote was 311 to 114. santos has been caught in lies surrounding his education, career and family background. speaker mike johnson is standing by santos saying expelling a lawmaker who has not been convicted of a crime would set a dangerous precedent. but other republicans disagreed. >> and i think the precedent is, is that we're holding members of congress to a higher standard. santos is charged with 23 federal crimes, including identity theft, credit card fraud and money laundering. >> he has pleaded not guilty. the race to replace santos is expected early next year. blue

shield of california customers may have had their confidential information stolen in from a cyber attack earlier this year. the oakland based health insurance said in a statement that the breach material may have included members names, social security numbers and private medical information. it happened between may 28th and may 30th of this year. blue shield of california has about 4.8 million customers. and now to the labor negotiations at california state universities. the union representing teachers has called for a one day strike next week at four csu campuses. that includes san francisco state. on tuesday, december 5th. no other bay area state university will be affected. and striking workers include professors, librarians, counselors and coaches. they are asking for a 12% wage hike. this academic year. san francisco skyline could soon see a new addition. a new skyscraper would be over 800ft tall, and it would provide more housing. abc7 news

reporter ryan curry has a look at the project and the reaction from locals. the skyline of san francisco could change in the next four years. >> this 840 foot building on howard street could go in near the salesforce transit center. if finished, it will be the third tallest building in the city. >> but the indicators are clear. they're, you know, they're unambiguous. even capital d down town is on its way back. >> hill ventures is a developer. they plan to put it right over this parking lot. the whole building will be housing. we showed the renderings to san francisco residents who say it will make the city look different. >> i mean, it's going to be that next to salesforce. so it'll be the two kind of eye poppers. >> the building won't require approval from the planning commission or the board of supervisors. that's because it's being built under a state law that allows affordable housing projects to be streamlined. hopefully they don't mess it up like they've done for most of the other buildings in this neighborhood. it's a little hard to imagine that a 70 plus story

to build affordable housing at one of its light rail stations. >> the project will create a little over 200 rental homes in the parking lot of the vta capital station in san jose. vta currently has seven housing developments underway or being planned at its stations. defense secretary lloyd austin paid a visit to silicon valley, along with representatives from australia and the uk. the goal of the meeting was to discuss new submarines and other advanced technologies aimed at limiting china's growing military power to australia. the uk and the us entered an agreement known as aukus. it allows the countries to share nuclear sub information and other military technology. we're innovating with cutting edge tech in several areas, including artificial intelligence, electron warfare and quantum technology, and by implementing strong standards of technology protection in we are reducing

platelet replacements. >> so i decided that, you know, kind of in honor of him, that i would start donating platelets every month on the monthiversary of his death. >> but the empty chairs around him tell a bit of a different story. vitalant a local community blood center, says that this time of year, historically sees the fewest donors. so far, they're seeing about a 20% drop in donors. despite recent fda changes expanding eligibility. >> one, we don't do any school blood drives over the holidays because school is out. businesses have employees that aren't coming into the office, so we have fewer business sponsored or business supported blood drives. but the need for blood hasn't changed. >> 25% of all donations go to cancer patients undergoing chemo. >> it is extremely important and it's extremely needed. and you would feel great after you donate. you feel like, hey, i'm

francisco, down around the bay view and also south city there. 82. san bruno and a heavier cell moving into airport street south of moss beach, el granada, taking you over into the east bay. this is san leandro, 8-80, certainly some wet weather there through 580. so be careful. it is slick out there. it's been a minute since it has rained. san ramon, 680 down through dublin here and over out towards 580 in livermore, a few showers was finally last stop here into newark down through fremont. a light shower. you can see the rain here offshore and also right around pescadero highway one. so it's light, it's scattered. it will become more isolated throughout the afternoon. but so far, not bad. a couple hundredths through m.p. daetz still adding to those totals, 14/100 in oakland 0.21 in half. moon bay, petaluma 0.16 and napa looking at 0.12. but if you go further to the north up

in sonoma, they've had over a half inch of rain and orinda has picked up close to 15 100. so there's a look at all the cloud cover and some right now a break here. the golden gate bridge, it is 54. san francisco as well as san jose. and you can see it is certainly damp out here on top of our roof. san francisco, 51, santa rosa, 54 in concord. so there is fog as well. pretty picture here from mt. tam with the layered clouds. it is going to be a gray day and we'll see intermittent showers as this system sinks to the south and east of us today. so we have the scattered showers this morning, isolated throughout the afternoon. i think the north bay is going to pick up a little more towards the evening hours, but then we'll get into some milder weather monday, tuesday looks to be the warmest day. here's a look at our hour by hour forecast. and you notice how the light showers continue to just sort of dot the landscape from the east bay to the south bay. and then by 11:00, we have the clouds and then perhaps still a few more

light showers, looking like a big break by 5:00. but then the system kind of wants to sag a little bit further south up into the north bay. so that's why we're looking at the highest totals here. elsewhere a couple of hundredths, not a whole lot, but if you're headed out to do some errands, some shopping, getting your tree, you may get a little wet, but we're not looking at downpours. a couple of inches in the sierra nevada. but for the week ahead, the big winners will be the pacific northwest, where they pick up four and a half to five inches of rain. this takes us through next saturday while we're still looking at shower chances into the middle of next week. not anything big yet. 61 in richmond today, 64 in san jose, level one system cloudy skies, shower chances linger throughout the afternoon. the accuweather seven day forecast our level one system today. south winds keeping it in the 60s lingering north bay shower chance for your sunday the milder days will be monday and tuesday with upper 60s to near 70 and then by
