storm this morning and lisa, i know we were talking about rain earlier. we actually took a nice walk around the station, stayed dry, didn't we? it was nice. >> yeah. it's a little cool out there. the pavement is certainly wet. it's slippery. we're keeping our level one system throughout the afternoon as these showers linger. you can see all the activity in the pacific northwest. and as each impulse comes in, we're getting a bit of a tail end of it. so there's a look at the south bay, the peninsula, san jose, where we continue to see some light showers right around menlo park creek drive, waverly street, palo alto, around middlefield road. and taking you a little bit further to the south and east where you see right there, that that shower has moved from milpitas down through 8-80, san jose. the fog is with us from a quarter of a mile in novato to three quarters of a mile at the coast. look at the san carlos airport just over two miles. and speaking of the airport at kind of a nice view there sfo but it's certainly a little bit damp out there. 53. san francisco, san jose and palo alto. and look

at all thoseal jose where it is 51, santa rosa, 54 and concord and it is much milder out there with the clouds. the south winds 15 degrees warmer in napa. and as we take a look outside, we'll keep a shower here and there throughout the day with low 60s for most. gloria? >> lisa, thank you. and keep track of the rain. any time with the same live doppler seven radar that lisa and our entire weather team uses. it's available on demand on the abc seven bay area app and now the latest from the abc seven news i-team, the pastor of an east bay church that serves immigrants from central america is under arrest. he is accused of sexually assaulting one of his congregants when she was 13 years old. pastor victor hernandez faces four counts of child sexual assault and three counts of kidnaping. the i-team was there as he arrived at the richmond police department to be booked. hernandez is held on $7 million bail. a police spokesman told the i-team's dan noyes why

they decided to make that arrest . >> and i believe he may have been aware that he was now under investigation. and when that happens, we feel it's important to get them into custody, you know, whether it be to prevent them from fleeing, whether it be to protect the victim. um, all of those are factors in which it would cause us to accelerate our investigation and take them into custody. >> um, as you might imagine, the pastor's arrest has shaken everyone who goes to that church . dan spoke to the alleged victim, who is now 21 years old and her parents. her father says that he has heard complaints about the pastor from other congregation members and if you have a story for the i-team, you can call this number on your screen or you can go to abc7 news.com slash i-team. a group of teachers in oakland are planning a so called palestine teacher in day for wednesday. the teachers say it's a way to elevate palestine voices and public education amid the ongoing conflict in the middle

east. but as abc seven news reporter tim johns tells us, they are already getting pushback from the school district and local jewish organizations. >> as the war between israel and hamas continues, so too does the battle in school districts around the bay area. on wednesday, a group of teachers in oakland are planning what they call a palestine teaching. >> it's just a group of teachers and parents who have gotten together and are planning to lead lessons, lead activities. is that really center palestinian stories and experience? >> ice's jacob, who asked us not to use his last name, is one of the ousd teachers participating rating. he tells abc seven news. the curriculum, the teachers plan on using comes from a variety of sources and is designed for different age groups. that includes an alphabet book on youtube for k through third graders called p is for palestine. the video makes reference to intifada, an arabic word that means rebellion and has been historically connected to armed uprisings by palestinians. the quote from

that page says intifada standing up for yourself or standing up for what is right, which i think is very age, like an age appropriate way to interact with that with that term. the oakland unified school district has come out against the teaching. in a statement, they tell abc seven news, quote, the district is aware that some educators want to teach their students about the situation in gaza and israel with a very specific view of who is at fault and why. it is the job of educators to teach students how to think critically , not to teach them what to think. we are reminding all educators of their responsibility to adhere to principles of education and to keep their personal beliefs out of the classroom. those in support of the teaching reject that statement. the pushback isn't just coming from ousd. some local jewish organizations also think it's inappropriate that includes tyler gregory, the ceo of the local chapter of the jewish community relations council. >> i think that this curriculum incites violence against jews and israelis and has no place in

any school district. >> gregory says his organization has heard from several jewish families in the district, some of whom plan on keeping their students home from classes. on wednesday. he believes at a time of heightened tensions, the teach in will only further divide the community. >> we're confident that the administration is going to have consequences for those that participate in this. the teachers, because it's totally unacceptable. >> in oakland. tim johns, abc seven news. >> the group behind the teach in makes it clear they are against anti-semitism, but they feel this is important. education this morning, people are remembering sandra day o'connor, the first woman to serve as a justice on the supreme court. she passed away on friday at the age of 93. but you may not have known about her connection to the bay area, including her time at stanford. here's abc's seven news reporter lauren martinez. >> sandra day o'connor is being remembered for her grit and inspiring legacy. o'connor's exceptional ism was evident as

one of the few women admitted at stanford university in the 1950s. >> i think people, especially women at stanford, really felt like she had blazed a trail that people wanted to follow in. >> stanford law professor bernadette miller said o'connor's years at the university were significant. it was there. o'connor met her classmate and future supreme court chief justice william rehnquist. she also met her husband. >> she had been an important member of the law review when she was at stanford, and she also met her husband famously through the law review, through late night editing, i guess after law school. >> o'connor had trouble finding a firm that would hire a woman. her first job was as a law clerk with then san mateo county district attorney keith sorensen . in my office of 66 prosecutors, 42 are women and 24 are men. >> and every one of them knows that it was sandra day who punched the hole in that ceiling and made it where, you know what

? we just to be a good prosecutor, you just need to be a good lawyer. >> o'connor ended up working for state government and eventually made her way to the high court. in 1981, she made history as the nation's first woman to sit on the supreme court. >> she was a justice of very great integrity and also practical sense. >> on october 5th, 1981, o'connor's first day as a justice on the supreme court, five students from stanford proclaimed a day of celebration at the law school. o'connor said it was one of the most touching tributes she had received. >> she brought a somewhat different perspective, not only by being a former legislator, but also by coming from a different area geographically. she just had a lot of perseverance and a lot of sticktoitiveness and approach things with a very positive and welcoming attitude as well. >> in the south bay. lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> police in los angeles are trying to track down a killer they believe is responsible for shooting three homeless people

to death since sunday. now this grainy photograph was released of the lone suspect in hopes of turning up any information from the public. they say that each victim was alone in an alley or a sidewalk when they were killed in the early hours of the morning. the la mayor is encouraging the homeless to stick together in groups for the time being. >> do not sleep alone tonight. seek shelter or seek services. stay together. >> the lapd is now adding patrols in areas where the homeless sleep on any given night. up to 75,000 people could be found on the streets of l.a. county. happening today, a gun buyback event in the south bay santa clara county and the sheriff's office are partnering to buy back guns with no questions asked. it's happening until 1 p.m. today at the reid-hillview county airport in san jose. people are encouraged to bring any unwanted firearms, including handguns, rifles and shotguns. let's get a preview of

schools have also been disrupted by the file locking cyber attacks, prompting the biden administration to treat ransomware as a national security crisis. the full extent of the outage and its impact on credit unions is not clear. blue shield of california customers may have had their confidential information stolen from a cyberattack earlier this year. the oakland based health insurer said in a statement that the breach material may have included members names, social security numbers, even private medical information. it happened between may 28th and may 30th of this year. blue shield of california has about 4.8 million customers. if you plan on using public transportation this weekend, there are some service interruptions that you should know about. today, bart is suspending service between glen park and daly city to remove trees posing a risk during the light storm. a bus will connect the two stations this weekend. some busses will run directly between glen park and daly city,

daughter duo are visiting from tacoma, washington, and it just sounded like some christmas fun. >> so i thought, why not at least go check it out, go see what it's all about. tara campbell, abc7 news. >> that is so neat. well, friday was the last first friday in oakland before. it takes a long break because of financial issues. this holiday themed event was called frosty friday. it included santa photo ops and gift shopping. first fridays is a beloved community event that began in 2013. organizers are looking for new funding, and they're also asking for donations to keep it going. they hope to restart in april of 2024. san francisco commemorated world aids day friday inside the national aids memorial in golden gate park. more than 3000 people who lost their lives to aids were honored. olympic gold medalist diver greg louganis, who was diagnosed with hiv in 1988, was there to share his journey as a survivor.

opening by about a week. this morning jerome hill and white pine are the only lifts open, including a terrain park and the park gives visitors a taste of what the winter season has in store. and here in the bay area, obviously we don't have any snow today, but you know what? some of you may be waking up to slick roads. i know i did this morning, but it looks like it's kind of calming down in some areas, right, at least. yeah, that's right, gloria. in fact, we saw a little wave move through the peninsula to on the east bay. >> and right now, a little bit of light rain reported in the santa rosa area. also around ben lomond. and rainfall amounts have been pretty impressive over in tilden park and skyline boulevard, up to a quarter of an inch of rain, 24 hour totals. now, of course, the big rain in the pacific northwest not only today, but the entire week looking like they're going to get slammed in the bay area, getting a little piece of it here and there, but not a whole lot to report as we look at live doppler seven right now. you can

see the summit there, aptos and maybe a few scattered light showers along highway one going in a little bit closer to down through santa cruz. but we're going to keep a level one system in the forecast throughout the day today. there's a look at the oakland airport, 0.12 in napa, 0.16 petaluma. but then that really held together as it pushed down through half moon bay, almost a quarter of an inch there and 0.16 in oakland, milpitas close to 5/100. look outside here from pier 39, nobody is there a lot of cloud cover 53. san francisco. san jose and palo alto. temperatures with the south winds near average today. but we will be looking at a lot of cloud cover, 51 santa rosa. it is 52 in novato and napa and we also have some fog. so looking at a gray exploratorium camera, we had some scattered showers. this morning and then we'll get into the isolated showers this afternoon. but i think the north bay will see a little bit more past eight, 9:00 tonight and then we'll get into a milder

portion of the workweek, maybe that monday, tuesday time frame. and then some more shower chances arrive throughout perhaps wednesday. here's a look at our high resolution hour by hour. and within the next couple of hours, you notice still some green here. and by the middle of the afternoon, perhaps, oakland looking at a stray shower out towards 580 2:00, pretty much the same story. most of you not seeing the rain, but there are pockets of a few light showers. so if you're out doing things, don't be surprised if you get the tree a little wet this afternoon as we take you through the 8:00 time period. notice that system wants to sag a little bit further to the south. so between now and 11:00 tonight, sure, you'll see maybe a hit or miss shower out there. overall, a couple hundredths to about 5/100 up in the sonoma hills. they've already picked up a half inch of rain. so much of this well far to the north of

the north bay. a couple of inches through 11:00 tonight in the mountains, temperatures are cold enough in the low 30s. but for the week ahead, check out all that heavy rain in the pacific northwest. but as you get down into california, not so much as for your highs today, underneath cloudy skies, a passing shower, low 60s for most 61 in richmond and the accuweather 70 forecast our level one system today bringing in some light showers otherwise still a lingering chance on sunday for the north bay. we're dry everywhere with warmer conditions monday and tuesday, maybe another shower chance on wednesday. but as you see, there's more sun, obviously in the seven day outlook. so we're not looking at that rain moving in in the pacific northwest. but next week, of course, could be a different story. so we always looking far out and hoping for more rain and snow. yeah i know a lot of people want to hit the slopes, so they'll be happy about some more snow. >> yeah. yeah. are you a skier?

the radar and everything. how is it looking right now? well, we have a little bit of a break out there. we had a wave move through earlier and overnight out picking up anywhere from a couple of hundredths to maybe a quarter of an inch for parts of the east bay. there's a look, a live doppler seven. most of the activities in the pacific northwest, we go in closer, our sweep on top of mount saint helena shows a few scattered light showers. penngrove napa. look at salon. the peninsula. not much at all. down through saratoga highway 17 an so you can see the loop since the overnight hours and this little wave has since moved on through and with it bringing some fog and the mild temperatures with the south winds, there's a look at the reduced visibility a quarter of a mile in novato over two miles in san carlos and look how dark that looks. 53. san francisco and san jose 55 half moon bay. emeryville gray skies, low 50s for everyone and our 24 hour temperature change with all the clouds and the south winds in our inland valleys 10 to 15 degrees warmer. so throughout

the next several hours. and notice how we have hit or miss showers as 1:00, perhaps a few around hayward, san ramon and then a bit more of a break through about five, 6:00. but look at the top of your screen past the seven, 8:00 hour. could see a few more showers in the north bay. that's what lingers into your sunday. i'll detail that accuweather seven day forecast in a few minutes. gloria elisa thank you. >> developing news a powerful preliminary 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit the philippines in the last hour. it struck the southern part of the islands at 10:37 p.m. local time. that's 7:37 a.m. right here in california. right now. we do not have any reports of injuries or deaths. officials say that tsunami waves are expected to hit the southern philippines and parts of indonesia. palau and malaysia. and now let's go to the war in the middle east. we're getting a live look right now at the western wall in jerusalem, where it's past 6:00 in the evening. right now, the cease fire between israel and

hamas ended on friday after talks to extend the week long truce fell apart. and this morning, israel is ramping up its strikes on gaza. abc news reporter alison kosik tells us what this now means for civilians. >> owns moments after the seven day temporary cease fire ended, israel resumed its air strikes against the gaza strip. israel hitting over 200 targets, accusing hamas of breaking the truce by firing multiple salvos of rockets at israel. much of gaza reduced to rubble, with the wounded being transported to hospitals by ambulance and via donkey cart. a unicef spokesperson described the horrors inside a hospital. >> while we cannot see more children with the wounds of war, with the burns, with the shrapnel littering their body, with the broken bones. nearly 200 people killed, according to the hamas run gaza health ministry, about 1.8 million

gazans have fled to southern gaza from the north. >> israel has said it created a new system to warn civilians of impending fighting, dropping leaflets in southern gaza friday urging civilians to move to a sliver of land near the coast. >> so do you expect 2 million palestinians to move into this very, very small strip of land if they go there, their chances of surviving are much, much higher. >> it came to an end because of hamas. >> the renewed fighting comes amid a report from the new york times saying the israeli military obtained a 40 page hamas document last year, which they codenamed jericho wall, calling for a barrage of rockets at the outset of the attack drones to knock out the security cameras and automated machine guns along the border. the times saying israeli military and intelligence officials dismiss the plan as aspirational. but hamas followed the blueprint with shocking precision. us officials telling abc news there are no indications the us intelligence community was

provided. the alleged hamas document in advance. alison kosik, abc news, new york. >> jorge santos is officially no longer a member of congress after the house expelled the republican in the historic vote was three to 11 to 114. santos has been caught in lies surrounding his education, career and family background. speaker mike johnson is standing by santos saying that expelling a lawmaker who has not been convicted of a crime would set a dangerous precedent. but other republicans disagree. >> and i think the precedent is, is that we're holding members of congress to a higher standard. >> and santos is being charged with 23 federal crimes, including identity theft, credit card fraud and money laundering. he has pleaded not guilty. the race to replace santos is expected early next year. now to the labor negotiations at california state universities. the union representing teachers has called for a one day strike

next week at four csu campus cities. that includes san francisco state. on tuesday, december 5th. no other bay area state university will be affected. striking workers include professors, library chains, counselors and coaches. they're asking for a 12% wage hike. this academic year. san francisco skyline could soon get a new addition. a new skyscraper would be over 800ft tall and it would provide more housing. abc7 news reporter ryan curry has a look at the project and the reaction from locals. >> the skyline of san francisco could change in the next four years. this 840 foot building on howard street could go in near the salesforce transit center. if finished, it will be the third tallest building in the city. but the indicators are clear. >> you know, they're unambiguous. even capital d downtown is on its way back. bargetto ventures is a developer. >> they plan to put it right over this parking lot. the whole building will be housing. we

showed the renderings to san francisco residents who say it will make the city look different. >> i mean, it's going to be that next to salesforce. so it'll be the two kind of eye poppers. >> the building won't require approval from the planning commission or the board of supervisors. that's because it's being built under a state law that allows affordable housing projects to be streamlined. >> and hopefully they don't mess it up like they've done for most of the other buildings in this neighborhood. >> it's a little hard to imagine that a 70 plus story building is going to get built right in this little parking lot. but that's what's on the table. and some people we spoke with hope it creates necessary jobs, hoping it actually goes place not only for the housing in san francisco because housing is needed everywhere nowadays, but not but for work as well for the union members and everybody else. oscar mazariegos is a carpenter as he looks at the renderings. one thing crosses his mind necessary work. this will be a lot of work for a lot of members for at least a couple of years because there's 71 stories.

>> it's pretty big. >> according to the planning commission, downtown is not suffering. it's actually on the cusp of a big boom. several developers have submitted plans to the city for large residential towers, activity and housing and density to our downtown core, which sits on top of the region's transit nexus is what is what's in the cards. >> it's what our city is about in san francisco. >> ryan curry, abc7 news in the south bay santa clara county signed a lease agreement to build affordable housing at one of its light rail stations. >> the project will create a little over 200 rental homes in the parking lot of the vta capital station in san jose. vta currently has seven housing developments underway or being planned at its stations. defense secretary lloyd austin paid a visit to silicon valley along with representatives from australia and the uk. and the goal of the meeting was to discuss nuclear submarines and other advanced technology changes aimed at limiting

his death. >> but the empty chairs around him tell a bit of a different story. vitalant a local community blood center, says this time of year historically sees the fewest donors so far, they're seeing about a 20% drop in donors, despite recent fda changes expanding eligibility. >> one, we don't do any school blood drives over the holidays because school is out. businesses have employees that aren't coming into the office, so we have fewer business sponsored or business supported blood drives. >> but the need for blood hasn't changed. 25% of all donations go to cancer patients undergoing chemo. >> it is extremely important. it's extremely needed. and you would feel great after you donate. you feel like, hey, i'm doing something wonderful, i'm helping somebody out. >> if you donate blood at any of the six vitalant bay area locations, anytime between now and december 17th, you will get a $10 gift card in san francisco

thank you, larry. >> now let's get a check of the bay area forecast with meteorologist lisa argen lisa are we seeing more rain today? we're going to see a few showers here and there and that's all because of the system to the north is really hogging it all. >> we'll get a little bit of energy that wants to slide down from time to time between now and tomorrow morning. keeping that level one system with us. but for now, now, most of the rain has moved on through the sweep on top of mount saint helena. our live sweep shows maybe a sprinkle around napa, petaluma. otherwise you can see the clouds here. look at that. a third of an inch. half moon bay, petaluma and napa, just over a 10th. oakland 0.16. but the hills there, skyline boulevard, tilden park, about a quarter of an inch and a couple of hundreds. through milpitas. we had more rain down around ben lomond. now certainly foggy out there with the golden gate bridge, 53, san francisco and san jose where we have some sun and half moon bay temperature are in the 50s here. santa cruz,

a brief shower but otherwise temperatures are fairly uniform from the low 50s in the north bay mid 50s in the east bay. and there's a hint of some of that sun in the south bay. so with that, temperatures will climb into the low 60s with perhaps more breaks in the cloud cover throughout the south bay. so a few showers here and there becoming isolated. this afternoon, then maybe reinvigorated tonight. but looking at milder conditions come monday and tuesday, could even see a few 70s before the next system moves into the pacific northwest. you can see in the next hour, still a few scattered showers for sonoma out around the east bay. 580 throughout 1230. so if you're shopping, putting lights up, getting the tree, don't be surprised if you get your head wet a little bit. but we're not talking downpour cause we're not talking some heavy rain. we're just talking scattered light shower activity even through about 11:00, we're not going to shake this into early tomorrow,

maybe in the north bay, but overall, through 11:00, it's not much. a couple hundreds, 5/100, but enough to maybe warrant the rain gear overall in the sierra nevada, temperatures are cold, but only picking up maybe two inches. we have to get that jet stream a little bit further south to bring the rain into the bay area. but for the week ahead, this adds up the precip through december ninth. there it all is from extreme northern california into the pacific northwest. the bay area, not too much, at least for the next week. so we'll keep watching maybe into the middle of december. we're looking at different signals that could allow for more rain and snow to visit us. 63 in oakland, 61 in santa rosa today. so mostly cloudy skies, a few scattered showers looking at that level, one system today as it lingers, especially into the later evening and overnight hours. so temperatures will be on the mild to muggy side through tomorrow, a chance of lingering showers
