toyota. after the game, you just saw a thrilling game go overtime. so we're going to go a little overtime ourselves. one year ago today, do you remember where you were december 4th, 2022, i believe. >> i know. >> well, brock purdy probably does. jimmy garoppolo got hurt in that game against the dolphins. he came in and really, as they say, the rest is history . fast forward 365 days later and brock now sits atop the league for mvp. odds are you kidding me? according to espn, bet the niners now have a 3 to 1 odds to win the super bowl. purdy entered the season as a 45 to 1 long shot and now he's ranked number one and a lot of categories. completion rate yards per attempt. passer rating qbr he's fourth in league in touchdowns and he's now a 3 to 1 favorite to win the mvp. anyone else on your list even come close to brock right now he is playing at the mvp level right he is playing fantastically. >> this award is basically been a quarterback award. you know, the mvp. and brock purdy is the highest rated quarterback in the league right now. and so he's the guy who should be the front runner for this. the quarterback

rating is the number one indicator of team success in the nfl. if you're the top quarterback, you're giving your team the best chance for success. the only other guy in my book would be christian mccaffrey, because mccaffrey does so much for this offense. and he's it's one thing for a receiver, you can say a receiver might get it. tyreek hill maybe, yeah, but because the running back touches the ball in so many different ways, he catches passes and mccaffrey does so much for this team. he would be the other guy that i would put in that running. but brock purdy right now is lights out. he is ice cold and he is just executing at the position. >> there's a national narrative because he was mr. irrelevant that he can't be the mvp or maybe if he was drafted as high as, say, a guy like mahomes, he would be the face of the league. and that's just not the case. maybe nationally, but we here at see him every week and now i think when you put it on the eagles like you did and you put it on the cowboys, it scored 42 points against some of the teams that are supposed to be contenders, eagles, cowboys. he's look pretty darn good. and he's got all those weapons and he's got them at his disposal.

well, sure. >> think about the guys that look past him. right, mr. irrelevant becoming the mvp. a lot of guys would look bad as draft analysts. so for brock purdy to get this thing, i think it would be awesome. >> so we'll wait and see. there's still a little bit of season to go before we get there. now the niners maintain yesterday wasn't a revenge game. i'm not sure if i believe that deebo samuel backed up all of his talk with the career game yesterday in philly. career high three touchdown game by the end of the day like i said it yeah i said it but i don't regret it. yep. debo doesn't regret it. dang thing getting involved in the run game first the end around. nice blocking there. a 12 yard score and then he had two more scores. a lot of yards after catch brock get him the ball and debo was going to do the rest break a tackle get off me now. i asked you earlier in your playing days a lot of quarterbacks don't talk, but you said you kind of had a little debo in you back in the day. >> well, we had a little bit of swag in it when i was a cal and i had a little bit as a quarterback as well. i was just very confident in debo was very confident. you know, they say

it's christmas time, right? so a diamond is forever. yeah well, a win is only until the next time you play that team, right? and so philadelphia got the win last time, but these guys lined up again and there was a lot of smack talking during the week this time the niners backed it up on the road. you go to somebody's house and you put that kind of beat down on them. that's a good win. >> and you heard a lot of it in after the game. trent williams talked about this time we had a quarterback i think that was kind of the thing that prevailed all this time. a year later is like the 40 niners didn't feel like they had a fair chance because they didn't have a quarterback in that. >> no, i mean, brock purdy comes in, he fills in and then he gets hurt. right. and so it's tough for them. and you don't know how few snaps a backup quarterback gets during the week at an nfl game. i mean, backup quarterbacks get almost no snaps. and when you see one play, well, it's the hardest position in sport to do well at and then you don't get any reps when they play well. it's pretty impressive. >> it's kind of like what jake brown said postgame after the game. he felt better because he had that one starter on his belt. he had the practice time. and then you see c.j. benkhert, he did enough to get the jaguars in. so it's not the easy thing. it's like being a pinch hitter

in baseball, coming off cold, not the easiest thing to do. now all of a sudden, the eagles, who were ten and one flying high, they're not only fighting to keep the top seed because the niners are one game back. the nfc east division lead is on the line when the eagles travel to dallas for a sunday night showdown. cowboys played thursday. they didn't have a couple extra days of rest. meanwhile, the eagles, they definitely got roughed up at the linc yesterday. jalen hurts was hit by oren burks, went through concussion protocol, ended up okay but you thought that was more of like a neck stinger situation. >> you see the way it's an axial load on the top of the head right there and that pushes your head down into your shoulder. and that's not good on the neck right? those discs are supposed to cushion, but that's a lot of person to cushion. that's a tough one. >> there's devante smith getting suplex by dre. greenlaw we'll get a little more in a big dom a little bit later in the show, but i have a question for you about the way they use jalen hurts. there's a lot of rpos designed runs. are they putting him at unnecessary risk when you have a quarterback like that, his specialty is being able to run the football. >> and so football is a violent game anyway. if you're going to be a guy who's going to be a dual threat quarterback, you're going to have to run the football. that's how he moves the team. that's also how you get the mvp, right? right. so i think he had 16 rushes last week . this week, not quite as much.

they contain him a little bit better. but you have to run the ball if you're a running quarterback and you just you go with the guy you got and this leads a little bit in the thing. >> we wanted to break down. we talk about the niners generally over the last couple of years have had trouble with the mobile agile quarterbacks but you really like how the niners front contain gained jalen hurts they didn't need to necessarily sack him but they made him kind of move around. yeah. >> anytime you play a dual threat quarterback let's take a look at what you have to do. you want to rush him but contain him. you want to affect him. you see here niners are keeping the outside leverage outside arm free. so they keep him in the pocket. you also have a man spying see his head he's looking for that quarterback so he's going to rush that up the center nowhere for jalen hurts to go but you can't give him that much time because he will find open receivers this time. you're going to watch. you're going to get the pass rush come underneath, he loses contain off the outside, which means jalen hurts can get outside but there's no pressure. nobody is there to fill in and push him and force him to throw the ball before he wants to. and so as a result he's got receivers running down field. you give jalen her space and time and he's going to hurt you so gets outside frees lots of green

grass out there he's just under control he's calm even going to his left finds a guy it's easy now you see again flushing from the pocket. you can't give him that much space. you have to have somebody home responsible for jalen hurts this time. you're going to see nick bosa, big push coming right at the quarterback. but it armstead is going to fill in he's going to loop as he does he puts pressure on jalen hurts coming out of the pocket as a result. hurts has to throw before he's ready. he's backpedaling off of his escape. and so now with that pressure, he can't be accurate. nobody open throws the ball away. that's how you want to contain a dual threat guy. this time. once again, you're going to see the niners get the outside and now start to push the pocket. young coming from the top, you're getting pressure underneath the dish with the bull rush coming right into his lap. and it's tough as a quarterback to get balance as you get that pressure in your lap, you can't step into your throw and so as a result, you're not accurate and you can see jalen hurts, not comfortable there. and then finally you get

the underneath. rush now now you've got your defensive tackle filling in for the end coming under as he does, he's going to put pressure on hurts. he's going to keep him moving lateral now jalen hurts is a better athlete than any defensive tackle in the league, so he's going to continue to move outside but what the niners do is they use a flat defender, a linebacker to then create the push on hurts. so you've got somebody coming from the inside, somebody coming from the outside and it's like a pincers move almost on hurts to the outside. and so now he is forced to throw the ball before he wants to know where to go with it. the niners pressure and keeping contain on hurts is the way that you force him to throw that ball away and you make him way less effective. >> great breakdown. i learned a lot right there. >> yeah. so it's all about assignment, right? when you're rushing a passer who can move, it's all about assignment. they talk about gap integrity in the run game for a quarterback, it's all about contain. >> well, they did that and they also got to him a couple of times and the niners have been much better with chase young in there they've gotten a lot more sacks. a lot of people like to see those numbers. but as you broke down right there, it's all

welcome back to toyota after the game. espn's adam schefter reporting the nfl is reviewing yesterday's sideline incident between dre, greenlaw and eagles security director dom d'assandro is expected to be league follow up later this week. now here's kyle shanahan on this whole thing earlier today. >> no, i haven't heard anything. i mean, i thought they're pretty much the same as yesterday. i just it was hard to accept dre getting kicked out of that game for something that didn't involve someone that had to do with that game. but i definitely had i definitely don't have any hard feelings towards dom or anything like that. i don't want anyone to go too hard on him. i think he just got caught in a in a weird situation and an emotional situation. so no hard feelings for him. i know a lot of people who know him and speak very highly of him. i just can't believe we lost our player because of it. >> we'll get to that more in just a second. but first, reporter john paul from our sister station in philadelphia caught up with some eagles fans

to discuss their new philly cult icon. >> i'm telling you, he's he's the most popular guy in philadelphia right now. >> they might be right about that. fans who were at the game couldn't believe he was tossed. >> he shouldn't get in trouble. >> i think the officials went overboard. it's ridiculous for big dom to get thrown out. >> chris kim just met big dom on friday as part of the eagles autism foundation. he posed for pictures with his kids, ethan and emily. he came out and said, come on, come on, come see the players. >> and he brought the kids outside to watch the practice. he's the nicest human on earth, no matter what his intentions were. >> big dom could face additional penalties for the scuffle on the sidelines. nick sirianni was asked about the incident today. >> i know it and dom's heart. he truly was trying to defuze the situation right there. i'm sad that it came to, you know what it came to that anybody got thrown out of the game despite possible penalties. >> there is a silver lining. he's going to sell a lot of sweatshirts. the sweatshirts, big dom gear came out a couple

of weeks ago to raise money for the eagles autism foundation. the organization says they are seeing a spike in sales and some fans have added that to their christmas list. >> that's a positive silver lining. i actually didn't know that last fact in the story. so good reporting there from our friend in wpi. let's discuss the big dom a little bit. mike, i want to know, have you ever seen anything like this as we roll the tape in your playing days? obviously, there's a tackle on the eagles sideline. it's a physical game. he was well within his rights to make that tackle. and this gets a little fuzzy right here. so tackle was legal. the problem with for me is if you're not a player, you shouldn't be messing with players. >> it's an emotional game. these guys are gladiators. they're in helmets. and it's funny because nick sirianni said, oh, i'm just surprised that anybody got thrown out. sirianni was barking at the officials saying, you got to get him out of the game. you got to throw him out. so that's on sirianni for telling the official that he needs to throw him out, right? that's a big deal. and so if you're not a player, do not put your hands on a player. if you're not one of

their coaches, don't put your hands on a player because those guys are keyed up. and especially linebackers, they're taking on big dudes. to me, you know, big dom should not have been thrown out. green light should not have been thrown out. they should have just said, yeah, it's a physical game. stuff happens on the sideline. let it happen, go back, let's play football. but instead, you know, again, sirianni was calling for it. he was saying, you got to throw him out of the game. you can see him mouth that clearly on the sideline. that's on coach. well fortunately for the niners, it didn't force or it didn't cause any real repercussions because you thought at that time that greenlaw obviously is a good player for the niners eagles score. >> the momentum's all on philly's side. then brock purdy and deebo and everybody else. and the offense was no, we're going to shut that down. >> we'll take over. >> i'm glad it wasn't much more of a storyline than what it was. let's move on from all that nonsense next up for the niners, they take on the seahawks sunday at levi is going to have a few extra days of rest in thursday's game because they were in dallas. so this is game three of five and bird hunting season niners have played the seahawks

eagles seahawks cardinals ravens that's just kind of a fun quirk in the schedule. now these two teams met on thanksgiving and we all saw what happened. brock was brilliant against the seahawks and what do you think about a division opponent? obviously the seahawks aren't as good. they're coming in struggling. but these two teams know each other really well. divisional games are never easy. >> they really do. but the niners have the last most recent, really recent win over the seahawks. and so as a result, you feel pretty good coming back into this game. we know what they do. you've already got the film. you have some comfort with the game plan. you're going to add one more game to the list that you're going to study, but you feel pretty good about what you're going to see and so brock purdy played really well in that last game. i expect the offense because right now they are firing on all cylinders to be really good in this game. >> love that throw between four defenders can't see that play enough and brock bounce back from the pick six where he could have maybe got rattled the things weren't going well he turned it around and he's he's mvp purdy right now at least in these parts much more ahead on toyota after the game highlights from tonight's jaguars bengals game wrapping up week 13. we had

for reigning heisman trophy winner caleb williams will not play for usc in the holiday bowl against louisville on december 27th. now he threw for more than 3600 yards, 30 touchdowns. team went though seven and five projected number one overall pick in the draft. going to focus on the combine in the draft. mike, what do you think of these decisions when college guys, they skip out on the bowl game? >> i think caleb williams is about as sure a number one pick as you're going to find and so i kind of understand that you would have had a hard time telling me not to play with my teammates, with the guys that i love. but, you know, guys will say hashtag business decision. and there were guys calling for him not to play during the rest of the season, right? once sc was kind of out of contention and the heisman was off the table, they're saying, oh, you should quit now. like i would have lost all respect for caleb williams with this one. i can at least say, i get it. you know, you've got a ton of money on the table. you're going to be the first round, number one overall pick. go with it. but you know, his team missing, your team not playing with your team, although nowadays everybody's a mercenary

in college football with the nil. so you know, it's a different game than it used to be. but it's hard not to finish with your team. >> well, we'll wait and see what happens to him, but i think that was kind of to be expected. that decision of waiting and not putting himself become the norm now, which kind of saddens me for college football. yeah. all right. the heisman trophy finalists were announced today. you've got quarterbacks, jayden daniels out of lsu. was it arizona state pac 12, oregon's bo nix, pac 12, washington, michael penix jr, pac 12, and ohio state receiver marvin harrison, jr, the finalist. mike, you watched a lot of college football. you talked about the pac 12. you've seen them so closely now. i think you were thinking bo nix, but michael penix may have changed your mind, but let's talk about bo nix. >> bo nix had a phenomenal season. i started off as a michael penix junior guy. i thought he was going to be the guy. his offense was going to set it up. bo nix was incredible this year. you talk about mastery at the position he had over 60 starts. he's a guy he ended up throwing for 78% of his passes. he threw two two interceptions on the entire season. he threw an interception in every 200 and a half passes. that's that's incredible. how

how good he was with the football making great decisions, making great throws. and quite honestly, his receivers were good. but they weren't as good as michael penix junior's receivers as a whole. and so bo was fantastic. he ran it well. he was just a really good football player and he showed it this year. he in my opinion, his draft stock moves way up because of the way he managed it and what he did for his team. as a quarterback, pro teams don't like turnovers and he doesn't do that much at all. >> all right. much more ahead on toyota after the game. we'll wrap up the week with the best plays in the weekend. deebo flies by the eagles. bye bye.

city? asks san francisco residents to give the city a grade when it came to how safe a city we are. they gave it a c plus. i'm wondering, how are you going to raise that grade next year? well i think we already are on our way. >> we have reduced car break ins from that point to now 50. i think our strategies, our bait cars, our surveillance operations, the visibility in the right places at the right time, all those things are working. and most importantly, i think we're arresting the right people. >> you had a tremendous success this past year with the new bait cars, you know, going out there and planting and keeping an eye on them and then grabbing people. but we've been doing that years ago now, and we stopped. why did we stop? well all you know, things change and the tactics used by the people that do these types of crimes change. >> and mayor breed also credited the decline of car break-ins and retail theft on more arrests.

now, the other big topic addressed today, homelessness. 5% of the city's budget is going into solving the problem. here's a question posed by an audience member about cleaning up the streets the way they were done during apec. >> why can't we have, you know, the homeless problem cleaned up all the time? like we have in those two events? >> after the ninth circuit court decision happened and there was clarity from that case because we were not able to move people the way that we're able to move peoplefer now. so we offer in shelter or any type of housing, they are no longer involuntarily home less. and what we are doing is being as aggressive as we can to get people off the streets and give them, you know, an ultimatum. it's either you are going to accept the help that we're offering or we're going to have to move you from the sidewalk. >> and that's just some of what we heard in our one hour town

down by mostly politically driven measures. this has resulted in no one being in charge and no one for voters to clearly hold accountable together, sf action proposes a reform package. >> the two charter amendments include cutting the number of city boards, commissions and advisory bodies by half, and that cuts the number of commissions down from 130 to 65 and empowering the office of the mayor to hire and remove department heads without commission approval. >> these two measures provide clear authority over who's in charge in san francisco, government so that voters can get beyond the endless finger pointing that we've been stuck in now and be able to hold the elected officials accountable. >> some business owners in san francisco residents backed the proposed changes. >> if you want to go find an answer to something related to homelessness, for instance, there are more than four commissions that say they're responsible for it. >> bill maggs believes stream aligning government will be a big help. >> why in the world do we need 130 commissions? why do 1200 people, you know, need to be able to, you know, share power

with the rest of the city government? max young owns several businesses, including the bamboo hut on broadway. >> he used to own mister smith's bar in the mid market area to my business on seventh. >> and stevenson was directly impacted by drug dealers taking over my corner. and i had to shut it down in 2019. and i'm still unable to open young hopes the charter amendments will help make san francisco streets safer. >> this holds people accountable. >> we need the mayor to be accountable. we need our leaders to be accountable right now. if the mayor can't hire and fire her leaders, we've got a problem. >> next month together as a action will start gathering 50,000 signatures for each measure to qualify for the november ballot in san francisco. suzanne phan abc7 news. before tonight's town hall, san francisco mayor london breed announced auto burglaries are down 50% in the past three months. >> mayor breed credits the drop in car break ins to the police department, use of bait cars and stepped up patrols, as well as the work of district attorney brooke jenkins. most of the break ins are being committed by

organized theft rings. the mayor says it's important for the city to adjust its strategies as the organized rings committing most of the break ins adapt to the crackdown on and the mayor's announcement came just hours after more than ten cars were broken into in the hayes valley neighborhood. this video was captured along ivy street earlier today. one resident says the break ins don't make a lot of sense, but it's really frustrating and really annoying. >> and yeah, and yeah, and they and they didn't even take anything. like i looked around, i was like, there's nothing missing. not even my sunglasses. >> the hayes street shopping area has been identified as one of the city's top trouble spots, along with fisherman's wharf and alamo square. residents worry that as the car burglaries are pushed out of high visibility areas, the criminals will target the surrounding neighborhood. >> they will likely adapt well in the south bay. dense fog may have been a factor in the death of a pedestrian in the in mountain view early this morning. officers are investigating the fatal traffic collision in a walmart parking

lot on showers drive a woman in her 60s was in the middle of the lot when an employee driving into work ran her over. sadly, the woman died later in the hospital. drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this collision. mountain view police say the parking lot was dark and covered in fog at the time and that fog also created problems for travelers at oakland international airport, where scores of flights were delayed or canceled. >> abc seven news reporter leslie brinkley checked it out. >> it was the worst flight ever. >> passengers had plenty of tales of travel. woe to share at oakland airport today because of what airport officials called an irregular fog pattern. a dense bubble of fog shrouded the airport all morning, while everywhere else nearby was sunny . here you see a ghost town at baggage claim. by mid-morning, by midday, all the delayed flights finally started landing. as of 11 a.m, oakland airport reported 22 delayed departures

24 delayed arrivals, a couple of canceled options, but there's still a spillover into the afternoon hours. by 2:00, the tally was 40 incoming delays and 51 outbound delays with plenty of stories to tell. >> we actually tried to land here in oakland first and the pilot pulled out to say, nope, you can't do it. and then we tried san francisco and they got rerouted to san jose. >> they said, we're running out of fuel. we got to go to sfo, got to sfo, they said, hold on a second, we'll figure it out. then they said we're going to deplane. we don't know when this plane is going anywhere, sir, and we can't compensate you for anything. so figure it out. >> this passenger is going to try to recoup his $70 lyft ride to retrieve his parked car at oakland airport. >> there was no transparent communication between the pilot. the on board staff and the airport staff to actually give the customers correct information.

and if i were you, i would plan on another day of some heavy fog tomorrow morning, not only at oakland airport, but san jose and sfo as well. low 50s right now. santa rosa, novato. of course, this could impact your flights. fairfield 4754 in concord and 50 degrees in livermore. here is a view from our sfo camera where you can see that fog is around dense fog tonight and for the morning commute, milder weather in the afternoon and it's going to be turning wet and windy on wednesday. first thing tomorrow morning. pretty widespread fog for most areas. it will be dense in pockets and temperatures in the 40s and the 50s out the door tomorrow afternoon. you're looking at mid 60s to the low 70s. so warmer than where you were today. 71 in san jose, 67 in oakland, napa, 69 in santa rosa and livermore, 65 degrees for you in san francisco. we do have a level one storm coming our way for wednesday. light to moderate rain, occasional downpours with slick roads and breezy to gusty conditions. so here's what you need to know.
