warning sandhya. >> yeah, and it's ama and dan. the north bay valleys as temperatures have already started to drop. so let's take a look at a live picture right now from our mount tam cam. just a sparkling view of the city by the bay as skies have cleared out. we're looking at temperatures in the 40s and 50s right now from san francisco to san jose, 43 degrees in livermore, north bay is where some of the colder readings are. 39 right now in santa rosa and napa, 36 degrees in calistoga. you can see why they issued a freeze warning that begins shortly here at midnight. runs until 9 a.m. tomorrow. temperatures as low as 28 degrees. frost and freeze will cause damage to any tender plants. so make sure you protect them. also, bring in your pets. and don't forget about wrapping any pipes, water pipes outside to prevent damage. freeze watch is going up for the same area saturday morning. so it's not going to be a one day cold weather event. hour by hour, we go tomorrow morning right down near freezing at 5 a.m. in santa rosa, dropping even lower than that as we head towards 7:00 am.

on thursday. >> emerson is accused of trying to cut the engines of a passenger flight while off duty and riding in an extra seat in the cockpit back in october. >> i'm i'm so happy my boys are going to be so happy to have their dad home. it's been a long time. and i'm just i'm just glad that that this is happening. he deserves to be home right now. >> emerson is from pleasant hill. his federal indictment was lessened from 83 counts of attempted murder to 83 counts of reckless endangerment. at least three passengers have filed suit against alaska airlines, saying they suffered emotional distress from the incident. >> i know that it's impacted more than just joe. i hope that they would also understand the condition that my husband was in during that that flight. and eventually that will all come out. >> emerson previously told authorities he had been struggling with depression and took psychedelic mushrooms two days before the flight. his

attorneys have said he was in a dreamlike state and had a panic attack when he tried to cut the engines of a horizon air flight from washington state to san francisco. emerson was released around 5 p.m. thursday after posting bail, which had been set at $50,000. he must now undergo mental health services, stay away from drugs and alcohol and not come within 30ft of an operable aircraft. >> is he criminally responsible? no. does he need help? yes >> emerson's attorneys say they're client and his wife will now drive back to california while he awaits trial. j.r. stone, abc seven news. and developing news, three people are hurt after a car crashed into a christmas parade in bakersfield. >> the victims were all waiting for the parade to begin. when the car entered the route. the driver was taken into custody. the parade was delayed by two hours and had to be rerouted. the cause of that crash is still

under investigation. >> dramatic new video is coming in after the campus shooting at the university of nevada. las vegas police today released surveillance footage from the moment an officer took down the shooter yesterday. you can see the suspect in a long black trench coat follow a plainclothes officer around a patrol car. watch. now, that officer stumbles, gets up, then opens fire. we frozen the video at the moment he killed the suspect. the officer was not seriously hurt. two of three victims have now been identified , a fourth who was shot but survived, was downgraded today to life threatening condition. we also learned the gunman mailed 22 letters to other university personnel around the us. he was a longtime professor who tried to get a job at unlv's business school but was rejected . >> hunter biden has been indicted on nine tax charges in california. prosecutors say the president's son spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle rather than paying his tax bills. the charges center around the 1.4 million in taxes

that biden owed between 2016 and 2019, which he has since paid back. if convicted, hunter biden could face up to 17 years in prison. this case is in addition to his federal gun charge in delaware. former president donald trump was back in court today for his new york civil fraud trial. the republican front runner showed up to see his defense accounting witness take the stand. eli bartov, an accounting professor at new york university, testified in his opinion that accounting fraud didn't take place and that the financial inaccuracies were simply minor errors. >> a scare for some people doing holiday shopping at the apple store in berkeley today. they ran and ducked for cover after two men dressed in all black burst into the store and began to clear two tables of merchandise. employee was yelled for shoppers to get down for their own safety. no one was hurt, but it certainly left customers shaken. >> the fact that two people i didn't see the second person, but somebody said there was a second person, two people can

take down an entire store of customers and at least 20 employees were in there. it's broad daylight, 1245 this afternoon. it's crazy. >> police say the thieves drove off in a white suv heading towards i-80. so far, no arrests . abc7 news reviewed records showing at least five robberies at this same store over the last four months. contagious virus has wiped out the rabbit population at tilden park little farm in the berkeley hills. sadly, an outbreak of a virus called myxoma ptosis forced veterinarians to euthanize all of the bunnies to save them from painful symptoms and certain death. ultimately, park officials say one rabbit contracted the virus last month, and by the time it was diagnosed , all of them had been exposed. the disease is common and harmless among wild cottontail rabbits in the area. however, it has a 99% mortality rate in domestic dicated rabbits. today the city of san francisco is announcing financial help for vendors on mission street as the

city tackles the stolen goods market in the area. >> a 90 day ban on street vending has now been in effect for two weeks now. vendors will each get $1,000 from the city. they say it's not enough as they've been relocated to low traffic places. they expressed their concerns to supervisor hillary ronen today angry, disappointed because she she don't listen to us. >> she don't pay attention to us. she just came here and say, this is what i want. $1,000. that's money. it doesn't mean anything for us. those thousand dollars, we can make it if we sell on the street in one week easily. >> officials said the ban is working as it's keeping illegal activity away from the area, despite the challenges. >> a lot more to come here. maybe local crab for christmas. we have an update on the season that was supposed to open nearly a month ago. >> and speaking of the holidays, the postal service is ready to make that special delivery. we'll see how they're preparing for all those packages and cards. >> also here, speeding up downtown san francisco's recovery. a look at some of the ideas and how quickly it could

francisco's economy and its livable city as well. but during our abc7 take action, san francisco live event the other day, city leaders outlined some potential changes and tonight abc7 news reporter j.r. stone has a look at the ideas and a potential timeline. >> we broke news last week that downtown san francisco's vacant office space rate is at an all time high of 35, meaning that more than a third of all office space in the financial district is sitting empty. something that san francisco mayor london breed addressed in our abc7. take action san francisco discussion monday night in my economic recovery plan. >> it has everything to do with changing what downtown what we traditionally know downtown to be. >> mayor breed said that her vision of change doesn't just involve filling those downtown offices where in many cases companies have gone remote. it also has to do with housing.

>> something as simple as converting office space to housing thing and being able to do that without going through a process is something we've already done as erickson is with the emerald fund, a san francisco real estate developer company. >> we spoke with him after the town hall. he says tax incentives from the city and the state are a must. >> over a 60 year period event annually, the city will collect roughly three times the amount of taxes. by abating it right now. >> others we spoke with last week described an office to housing change as anything but simple. >> we definitely need new housing, but it's very difficult to make those kind of conversions. but i think that we will start to see some happen fairly soon on a smaller scale. and then if the proper incentives are put in place, you know, maybe two, two years plus from now, that's colin yasu kochi, who's the executive

director of the tech insight center at cbre, which focuses on the tech industry and how it affects commercial real estate. >> yasukichi believes that the office to housing type of conversion could likely ramp up in two years, but only if interest rates drop during monday's event, the mayor would not say how long she believes it will take to bring san francisco's downtown back. erickson says there's no quick fix here. cutting the red tape is likely to take a year and a half in his opinion. then at least another eight years to make a dent. if you take 5 million out of 25 million, that's a significant percentage. >> and if you and if you then chew up the remaining space at 2,000,000ft■!s per year, you get down to a reasonable number within ten years. >> mayor breed also spoke about bringing things like a soccer stadium, college classrooms or even a european spa concept to the downtown area. loosely thrown out ideas of what the

processing facility. more than 1000 employees are working every day this month to deliver a little holiday magic. >> we're anticipating all the way up to 7 million parcels just for this holiday season. >> abdul momen is the facilities manager of processing support. he says to prepare for the holidays, the facility has added several new processing and sorting machines. over the next couple of weeks. they'll keep mail flowing to thousands of households around the east and north bays. >> in january, we start preparing. we start bringing the machines, we start developing our plans to deliver a good product to our customers with so much going on at these mail processing facilities, the usps has some tips to make sure your packages get delivered on time because you never know what type of precious cargo may be inside. >> well, heyman says if you want your holiday packages to be received promptly, the most important thing is to get them out early. the closer we get to christmas, the more likely they could be delayed when it's fragile items, make sure you're using reinforced boxes. >> when it's letters, make sure

were looking at earlier in the day. and the fog has formed a visibility is down to a half a mile in napa, just over a mile in santa rosa. livermore reporting three mile visibility. so be careful tomorrow morning for that commute. now, we did have the rain move through here earlier today. you probably remembered those showers that began in the morning in the north bay and then started to spread by early afternoon. certainly snow in the sierra nevada as well. so when we take a look at our rainfall totals over the last 48 hours, most noticeable is kentfield, one of our wettest spots picking up over an inch of rain, 2000/900 in san francisco, napa, 7/10 14 hundredths. in redwood city, livermore oakland picking up 13 hundredths in san jose 707 inch. this is a live view from mount rose where you can see snow is covering the light post there and snow is still falling right now, but the winter weather advisory was dropped 24 hours. snow totals 15in at palisades tahoe, a foot, sierra at tahoe,
