backdrop, of course, of the israel-hamas war. abc seven news reporter j.r stone is in oakland tonight with all new images of the new menorah >> the relighting of this menorah is the culmination of quite the 24 hours in oakland. one that started when the town's largest menorah was destroyed and thrown into lake merritt during hanukkah. >> when i heard the news this morning, i cried. um, i felt very hurt, sad, scared. >> not only sadness from those in oakland's jewish community, but also anger and a will to come together and rally vehicle after vehicle could be seen with menorahs on top of them. a show of support and unity among both the jewish community and others. >> i love oakland, i think it is diverse. i think it is a beautiful community and what's turning into is hateful and frightening. >> wednesday night that car parade ended at lake merritt, where hundreds rallied in the

form of not only a vigil, but the lighting of an all new menorah in the area where the old one once stood. positas segula. >> while the mood was a positive one, the message was bold and straight to the point. >> it is clear that the hatred that has been allowed to spread unchecked across university campuses and city halls has now festered in oakland to levels that we could not have expected. >> we will not allow anti-semitism or hate or destruction to prevail. >> some here, even referenced the arabic graffiti left in the area. that translates to free palestine. >> i read the message that they left at the place where they destroyed menorah. here it's a death set. it's nothing else but a death threat. and we should not take it lightly. >> speakers at the menorah lighting included khalif, attorney general rob bonta, who
11:03 pm
said that hate crimes have become all too common in california for too many people have been attacked and targeted and hurt and harmed because of who they are, where they're from, who they love, how they pray and that is wrong. >> shaka lashon soramimi our these wednesday night events were peaceful, but no arrests have been made in this menorah case, and no suspect descriptions have been given in oakland. >> jr. stone abc seven news. >> police in san jose say they've identified suspects in two incidents where pro gaza banners were torn down from freeway overpass. now they're pursuing hate crime charges against both the mostrillionecent incident on sunday was caught on video. the council on american-islamic relations posted this video from the park avenue overpass above 8-80 in san jose. watch now the video shows a man in a heated argument moments later, he pulls out a knife and cuts down two banners. he also can be heard calling the person with the

11:05 pm
frustrated, worried and a thousand other things they want reassurance. they want to know the adults are taking them seriously. >> one of the main topics of discussion for the board was bringing school resource officers back to campuses permanently. in 2020, officers were removed from santa rosa schools as part of an effort to confront racial biases in the criminal justice system. students at montgomery high school said their survey reveals they do want sros to return. would you be fine with any school resource officer, sro on campus? >> we had 89.2% yes and 10.8% no. if cops show up on campus weekly anyways, why not have them on campus? >> last thursday. santa rosa police say herbert slater middle school was put on lockdown after a student fight involved a kitchen knife. police said the incident was possibly gang related on friday and monday, teachers, students and parents rallied outside of santa rosa schools to show the board action

11:07 pm
the point richmond area again. and air quality officials are investigating. this is the same spot. keep in mind where chemical released by a water treatment plant fouled up the air for several days last week. it was so bad the city held a special meeting about it yesterday. >> all right. let's head outside now with a live look from our mount tam cam, just to see if we can get a glimpse of that geminid meteor shower. everyone is talking about. it's expected to be peaking very soon. let's get to abc seven news meteorologist andy patel, who is tracking all of that ahead. sandhya. >> yeah, and ama, i think if you are lucky, you will get a chance to see them tonight because we don't have a lot of fog like we did last night. certainly do have high clouds around. let me show you the view right now from our east bay hills camera. you can see clearly across the bay. so here's a look at what you can expect. best viewing with the peak coming up late tonight. going into early tomorrow morning, we do have a new moon high clouds may interfere, but i think for most of you, as long as you move away from the bright lights, you will get a chance to
11:08 pm
see them. and if you are fortunate, up to 120 meteors per hour, here's a look at what you can expect tomorrow. so in the morning there will be some high clouds, patchy fog, 30s 40s, filtered sunshine for the noontime hour. those temperatures coming up into the 60s, low to upper 60s, mild for most areas by 4 p.m. and then cooling with the clouds thickening as we head towards 7 p.m. i do have warmer weather on the way, and even then some wet weather and it's going to be a stretch of it. i'll be back with all those details coming up. >> the nba is suspending warriors star draymond green indefinitely after he smacked jusuf nurkic of the suns last night. so what exactly is it going to take to get draymond back on the court once again after being kicked out for more on this. we had to bring in abc seven sports director larry biel. so much talk about this in the sports world and beyond. what's your take. >> my take is i can't believe we're back here again talking about this. but the nba is making it really clear they're so tired of draymond's act. they're tying his return to
11:09 pm
conditions that the league and the team will put in place. we don't know if that means anger management or what, but it's interesting. instead of saying you're out ten games and he's counting them down and so is the team. the nba is putting the burden on draymond to prove this is not going to happen again. and they're going to let him just twist in the wind in the meantime without giving them a specific deadline. well the nba is tired of the act. >> the question is obviously are the warriors you know after punching his teammate jordan poole last year to the chokehold suspension last month are the warriors still committed to draymond green? >> well they say they can't win a championship without him. maybe reluctantly committed. they gave him a four year $100 million extension this past summer. and to be honest i think the organization has enabled some of this behavior. draymond if you remember he was not even suspended after he punched. he was fined. but that wrecked the entire season for the warriors. and then they gave him 100 million change. >> the whole vibe of the team totally. all right before i let you go, one more major sports story to talk about. the giants lost out. as you've heard on the baseball superstar shohei ohtani, in part because of
11:10 pm
perceptions about the city of san francisco, at least supposedly how legitimate larry is. that concern former giant star buster posey, who now is a part owner of the giants, claimed that san francisco's perception is as part of the dilemma here. >> this came from an article in the athletic written by andrew baggarly, and i talked with him tonight about posey's comments. >> he spoke really from the heart that, you know, there are perceptions out there that may outstrip reality for what's going on in the city and for what? uh, um, you know, the vibrancy of the city and he really wanted to try to correct that as best he could, uh, correct those perceptions and help people understand. look, this is an amazing place to play. this is an amazing fan base to play in front of. and the opportunity for someone to come here and make a difference. uh, you really feel that? >> i think it's a bit of a reach to suggest car breaking videos are causing players to say no to the giants. is it part of the overall conversation? sure. but these are multi-millionaires. they're going to live in gated
11:11 pm
communities, etc. it comes down to one money, two more money, three even more money. four can i win a world series and five money? uh, and to me, the rest of this is just chatter. >> all right, well, shohei won't play in the bay area. draymond can't play in the bay area at least for the time being. here we are a lot more to talk about in sports larry thanks very much. we'll see you a little later on. >> well tesla is recalling nearly all of its electric vehicles in the u.s. because of an issue with its autopilot safety system. the recall affects more than 2 million teslas. this comes after a nearly two year investigation by the national highway traffic safety administration following a series of deadly crashes involving autopilot. now u.s. safety regulators say a software update will increase warnings and alerts to drivers. tesla cars are tracking your eyes while they are while you are driving. >> i think they're going to use that more and use that feature more so that to make sure you are paying more attention to the car so it it's going to make it

harder for you to fake the system. >> the recall applies to tesla models y, x and three. all were made between october of 2012 and december 7th of this year. >> and icon true icon in the wine industry mike grgich has died. gergich was a pioneer in the wine making business. his chateau montelena chardonnay beat french wines in a blind tasting back in 1976 that helped turn napa valley into one of the world's premier wine regions. he also was an integral supporter of the north bay nonprofit roots of peace. from the very beginning, the group removes landmines worldwide, putting vines and other crops in their place. we've reported many times on roots of peace of this picture is of grgich, with roots of founder heidi kuhn accredited . he credited his longevity to his many friends and rich life, and you might not be surprised. a glass of wine a day. he was 100 years old.
