oakland. the 11th annual edition yesterday stefan and aisha, along with their eat, learn play foundation, unveiled their plans to remodel the play space at manzanita community school in oakland. dozens of volunteers helped hand out food, books and other school supplies. about 800 students there. look at steph having a good time. warriors rookie forward trace jackson davis also joined in. he was the tallest santa claus ever at six foot nine. it's a cause that's near and dear to the curry family heart. >> just providing a sense of joy and some like tangible impact. you know, during the holiday season that these kids can kind of thrive on. it's mainly centered around literacy this year and continuing to instill a joy of reading. >> we went to a third grade class. we have a third grader, so it's just it really does resonate and it's just nice to see, like the joy and the kids, what we hear over and over again is this is the greatest day of my life from from these kids. >> and so it's not just an

ranks level one, a storm of light intensity. but it will produce showers and occasional downpours starting late tomorrow and tomorrow night. let me show you the timeline here. starting at noon tomorrow. we'll see that first wave of rain pushing onshore late in the day and tomorrow night, once it starts to move onshore tomorrow night, it's going to rapidly intensify and expand into monday morning when we expect the heaviest rainfall. so that's certainly going to be a challenge for morning commuters on monday. and there won't be much of a break before another wave arrives on tuesday. and that continues through tuesday night into wednesday. so we've got quite a spell of wet weather coming our way into midweek. next week. and when it's all over by 6 p.m. wednesday, we expect rainfall totals to range anywhere from over an inch in the central part of the bay area, from san francisco, across the bay and out to the east bay, to 2 to 3in of rain in the wettest areas, up in the north bay and down in the santa cruz mountains. i'll have the complete accuweather seven day forecast in just a few minutes. dion. >> all right, sounds good. spencer. thanks now, there are

concerns that tonight's rain could create a potential landslide in alameda county. here is the area of concern. milepost marker 9.5 on tesla road yesterday, the alameda county public works reduce traffic to just one lane because of an active lane mudslide in that area. the closure will last indefinitely. alameda county is strongly recommending that people avoid the section of tesla road. and reminder you can check out the abc seven news bay area app for the very latest on weather conditions and to access the very same live doppler seven that spencer and our entire weather team uses. just search abc seven bay area in your devices app store to download it for free. well, moving on to new details. in a case involving remains of a man found near the oakland zoo in june, it's now being treated as a homicide. our media partner, the bay area news group, reports. the victim is 63 year old julio chavez montoya. his family reported him missing.

in february. oakland police believe the maintenance worker was killed several months ago at another location when his body was found off golf links road by a herder who's goats were clearing the area to prevent wildfires. developing. news now supporters of alameda county district attorney pamela price held a rally today. step up their campaign to keep her in office. they emphasized efforts made by her office to enhance public safety in the county. price is fighting a recall effort now over her progressive approach to prosecuting criminals and leniency. sentencing her opponents believe price needs to do more for victims rights. >> we work too hard to let somebody come in and take it back so we are not going to go back. we are going to protect the win and so we are fighting back. we are standing on the right side of history after the rally, volunteers manned phone banks to persuade members of the public to, quote, decline to

sign the recall effort. >> da price says she was elected by the people of alameda county and is doing what she was appointed to do to the north bay, where families in need are getting the holiday they have been hoping for. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard shows us how a marin county nonprofit helped make the holiday special for hundreds of children. mary christmas, santa and mrs. claus were. posing for pictures and listening to a lot of wish lists from kids in north marin in mexico. >> we don't have any toys, and i tell them, you, you are lucky to have all these presents. >> maria mercado, son, just got a bike. it's all part of the annual holiday share and toy drive hosted by nonprofit north marin community services, helping low income families maria says because of them, christmas will happen. >> after all, they are uh- amazing because we pay, you know, a lot of rent in this area

and we don't have a lot of money to. give, you know, presents for him. >> it's the 51st year for this event benefiting almost 500 kids. director say many families are living on the sharp edge of the bay area's economy. >> the need is so high right now. we have over 90 people on a wait list for rental assistance. um we're very grateful that donations are coming in. we'll check it out. >> there's about 2000 toys in all of these purple bags. each bag custom made for kids and families this holiday. >> it's amazing. we're going to go see what's in here, and we're going to put it under our christmas tree. and it's just going to add to the excitement for them. >> kristie dupree two sons can't wait to see what's inside. hey sweetie. at a time when it seems everything is expensive, many parents are feeling relieved and grateful for the things their kids are wishing for. this season. no, i think that it's extremely difficult for people right now and the fact that we are going to bring toys and

gifts to people, um, during the holidays is extremely gratifying . in novato. cornel bernard abc seven news. >> on the peninsula, where over 1000 children and teens were able to take home new donated toys, samaritan house of san mateo hosted the event for underprivileged kids. this year, nearly 4000 toys filled the nonprofit's warehouse. now despite that number, though, the samaritan house ceo says they're actually seeing a dip in donations just like other nonprofit assets. we are in one of the highest cost areas in not only the bay area, but the country and families who are here are struggling with housing costs, child care costs, health care costs, a whole range of costs and when it comes to the holidays, you know, clearly there's a need here. samaritan house says a generous donor stepped up to make sure all of the kids had a gift card to take

home. one of the last toy stores in san francisco is closing for good, co-owner matthew loon at family run jeffrey's toys told abc seven news tonight that the store on kearny street in union square is permanently closing. he says many factors are to blame, including fewer people visiting downtown san francisco. he says the store needs the city's help. jeffrey's toys is expected to close around mid january. for 45 years, jeffrey's toys was located on market street. that location closed in 2015 because of a rent hike to the south bay, where officials in santa clara county say paramedic shortages are leading to longer wait times for ambulances. according to our media partners at the mercury news, it's affecting remote communities in areas like morgan hill and gilroy. the paper also reports patients and emergency responders waiting. a half hour, or even more for ambulance. officials say this is a nationwide trend because paramedic training programs were

shut down during covid. the county says ambulance companies are working on solutions, but relief could take months. fire crews in the east bay rescued a person trapped inside a burning building today. con fire posted this video in response that fire damaged a home on saint francis drive in antioch. crews also rescued a dog there and say three other people and another dog made it out uninjured. firefighters say there were no working smoke alarms in that building. the cause of the blaze is still unknown. labor supporters gathered in oakland today in a show of solidarity with the palestinian people in the conflict between hamas and israel. workers from bay area unions and their supporters gathered at oscar grant plaza to make their voices heard. they're calling for a permanent ceasefire in the conflict and an end to the occupation of gaza and a halt to us military aid to israel. >> we do not support u.s. taxpayer dollars going to a

fallout now from the sideline. scuffle between the 40 niners. dre greenlaw and the philadelphia eagles heads of security. we learned today the nfl has banned dom d'assandro from the sidelines for the rest of the season. d'assandro made headlines after putting his hands on greenlaw during a sideline skirmish in the december third matchup between the teams. d'assandro was removed from the field and greenlaw ejected for taking a swipe at him. the associated press reports d'assandro can still travel with the team and perform all other work duties as vice president kamala harris spent part of her saturday watching college football in atlanta. the vice president of the united states to come to cheer on and support her. >> howard university bison, enjoying it with the second gentleman and the suites here at the. >> yeah. looking like she's having a good time. >> she supported her ama mater, howard university, as you heard, as the bison took on the florida a&m rattlers in the cricket celebration bowl, which is the

that what they say? the calm before the storm. that's exactly it. >> right on cue. so let me give you a look at the storm on our satellite radar. composite image and we can look calmly at it. it's getting closer, but not so close that we won't enjoy a night of dry and calm weather. so. right now, we're looking at very light winds all across the bay area. no big breeze has stirred up yet, and looking at the 24 hour temperature change, you see that most locations, certainly those away from the coast and the bay shoreline are generally three, 4 or 5 degrees warmer than they were at this time last night. so here's a view from sutro tower looking out over san francisco, where it's currently 57 degrees. we've got 52 at oakland, hayward, 55, 56, 55 at san jose, san mateo 52

and half moon bay 50 degrees. and the view from emeryville looks pretty clear as well. it's hazy right now. you know, we're still under that spare of the air alert, but skies are mainly clear with the exception of that haze and on we go to other temperature readings. right now, 48 at both santa rosa and petaluma and napa, 5743 in fairfield, 50 at concord, 47 in livermore. and let's check out our forecast headlines. okay. hazy overnight and into the early morning hours. tomorrow will be another spare the air day. but tomorrow will also bring showers arriving late in the day or into the early evening, and the rain once it starts will continue monday, tuesday and all the way into wednesday. this pattern is not going to let up until we reach the middle of the week for tonight though, there may be a sprinkle or two. by the way, approaching the coastline during the overnight hours. this is not that first wave of rain we've been talking about, but there could be isolated sprinkles overnight and early tomorrow. overnight low temperatures will be mainly in the mid to upper 40s, low of 50 degrees here in san francisco and highs tomorrow

as the rain starts to move in. will be mainly in the mid to upper 60s. so a pretty mild day actually. temperatures up to about 68 degrees at fremont tomorrow down in the south bay. look for low 70s at san jose and morgan hill, and by the way, tomorrow will be another spare the air day. wood burning is prohibited on a spare. the air day. so here's the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. the approaching storm, at least the first wave of it arriving. arriving tomorrow is only level one. a storm of light intensity. it'll bring scattered showers, perhaps a few isolated downpours. best chance of any significant rain is in the late afternoon or evening hours tomorrow, and the rainfall totals initially will be pretty light, but they'll get heavier as the futurecast forecast information uh- animation going into monday morning. notice how quickly the rain intensifies and expands monday morning, so the morning commute monday is going to be quite challenging. we'll get a brief pause in the action monday afternoon before the next wave of rain arrives. monday night into tuesday, and that

will continue into wednesday before it's all over by the time we reach midweek, say, 6 p.m. wednesday, we can expect rainfall totals through the central part of the bay area between one and 1.5in of rain up in the north bay over two over 2.5in of rain. in fact, likely at santa rosa and down in the santa cruz mountains. over three inches of rain in some spots. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. the rain on tuesday will actually reach uh- on monday. i beg your pardon? monday morning will reach level two on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. then on tuesday and wednesday, level one storm activity. finally we get some calmer, quieter, drier weather on thursday, which will be the first day of winter. and that's our forecast. dionne >> all right, first day of winter. hard to believe. spencer. thank you for months after devastating wildfires swept through parts of maui, the heart of lahaina has reopened. to all mauna for now. doesn't
