your forecast to talk more about thatrillionain. lisa is here. how's the timing? >> well, maybe a last round of golf today, right before the rain arrives, because it is on the way. but it's only at the coast. so as we look at live doppler seven right now, we are dry. we have a spare the air alert. for most of us, just cloudy skies, a little hazy out there. but look at live doppler seven. very active with thunderstorms offshore. we're getting closer. you can see a line of rain there from point rays to inverness, but this air is so dry that the moisture has to work its way into it's going to take a little while for the moisture to reach the ground. so we'll say the showers will be scattered throughout the day. today with our level one system. so it's going to linger throughout the afternoon. the breezy winds, the scattered showers, it will become more widespread and heavier overnight tonight. and right now current temperatures are on the mild side, with 59 in half moon bay, low to mid 50s. elsewhere, there's a look from our sutro tower camera. lots of clouds here in san francisco with this subtropical fetch. it is mild today in the 60s already temperatures are about five degrees warmer than we were

earlier this morning. that's just about 43 miles from here today. prime minister benjamin netanyahu vowed to continue the war until, quote, victory. now, all of this is coming as outrage. families protested in israel after the israeli military admitted it accidental killed three hostages, the idf saying in a video that the shooting of those hostages was against the rules of engagement. abc news reporter johny fernandez has the latest saturday protesters gathered in tel aviv demanding answers after the israeli military admitted to accidentally shooting and killing three israeli hostages in northern gaza on friday. >> the men identified as 28 year old yotam haim to 86 year old alon shamriz and 22 year old samir tallahatchie. prime minister netanyahu, calling the deaths an unbearable tragedy, according to the idf's preliminary investigation, a soldier saw them as a threat and

opened fire, killing two instantly. the third man was injured and ran back into the building. someone then cried help in hebrew. the idf then saying the battalion commander ordered his troops to stop firing, but another burst was fired, killing the third hostage. >> the idf is doing everything we can. uh there's been a multiple success, and there will also be mistakes. >> i, idf lieutenant general tsay halevi, releasing a video statement saying the hostages did everything possible so israeli troops would understand being shirtless so they wouldn't be suspected of carrying explosives and waving a white cloth. >> but he said tensions overcame the situation and admitting the shooting was against the rules of engagement that is forbidden to shoot at someone who raises a white flag and seeks to surrender. so far, at least 20 israeli hostages have died and more than 100 hostages are thought to remain in gaza. confirmation on saturday that

another one was killed in hamas captivity. a 27 year old, inbar heiman. she tried to run on october seventh but was captured by hamas terrorists on motorcycles at the rim music festival. since the war began, more than 18,000 people have died in gaza, according to the hamas run gaza health ministry. johnny fernandez abc news, new york. >> back here at home, labor supporters gathered in oakland yesterday in a show of solidarity with the palestinian people, workers from bay area unions and their backers gathered at oscar grant plaza to make their voices heard. they are calling for a permanent ceasefire in the conflict and end to the occupation of gaza and a halt to u.s. military aid in israel. >> we do not support u.s. taxpayer dollars going to a genocide abroad, going to support a regime, committing an occupation of the palestinian people for decades. >> the workers want president biden to stop supporting the

conflict. they say that money should be supporting communities here in america. here. new this morning side shows all over the bay area blocking traffic. and not only san francisco, oakland, but also vallejo. video shows police trying to break up a sideshow in san francisco after cars were spotted spinning donuts on debow's and van ness avenue and vallejo, people lit a christmas tree on fire during an illegal sideshow on louis brown drive. spectators also gathered to watch cars burn rubber on seventh and grand avenue in oakland. no word yet if anyone was cited or arrested. also, new overnight the chp is investigating a deadly crash in the east bay. it happened on highway four in martinez. this is what's left of the mangled vehicle. you'll see here in a moment. a woman driving by says she saw the crushed car and stopped to help. the chp

believes the vehicle was traveling westbound on highway four, right near murillo avenue when the accident happened for an unknown reason, the vehicle went off the roadway and maybe struck a tree. >> um, there was at least three occupants and, uh, one deceased. there's two bies. >> yes, one, i think, passed away and the other that i was holding was is looks like he's in critical condition. they were resuscitating him when i looked over after i was pulled away from him. the chp has not confirmed the ages or identities of the three people in the car, and we are also still waiting for an update on the condition of the two that did survive in brentwood. >> three suspects were arrested last night for a deadly shooting earlier in antioch. antioch police say a man was shot and killed last night during an altercation with another person. right near waldie plaza. investigators later identified a car thought to be involved in the shooting, and it was found nearby in brentwood. you can see brentwood swat team searching

for the suspects in this video, three suspects were eventually taken into custody near the 1200 block of dainty avenue. as of right now, it's unclear how the suspects were involved in this shooting in san francisco. a fire in the mission district was quickly put out by firefighters overnight. you can see in this video crews working on this building, it happened right near the intersection of 18th and harrison streets. it's unclear how or when this fire started. thankfully, no injuries were reported, and officials do say that harrison is closed to traffic between 17th and 18th streets in the east bay. the campaign to recall alameda county district attorney pamela price says it will be ready to get enough signatures to move a recall vote on the ballot. but price's campaign says a new leaked document shows the recall is not being motivated by public safety. here's abc seven news reporter anser hassan. >> this draft fundraising document, linked to the campaign to recall alameda county district attorney pamela price,

was leaked to price supporters. she spoke about it at a rally on saturday. >> they did not get a recount in november, so they decided they'd have a recall in january. as soon as we took office. that is anti-democratic, yes. >> page nine of the document explains that fundraising has been focused on large businesses who, quote, have had significant negative impacts to both their portfolio valuations as well as the personal safety of their employees and families. those fighting the recall, known as protect the win, say this reveals that protecting property value is being prioritize over public safety. >> this campaign plan says that they are concerned with the value of their portfolios. real estate developers. there is nobody in here. there is nobody who comes through our office that is a real estate portfolio. yes, we are responsible for the lives of real people and the impact that our system has

some expert analysis. >> a warning from the cdc this week. the worst of the respiratory illness season is likely yet to come. and low vaccination rates are leaving the most vulnerable at risk. >> people went to thanksgiving all over the country. there was a lot of flu in the southeast and the gulf states, and then they came back home. >> ucsf doctor peter chin-hong is talking about the flu and the rapid rise in hospitalized asians in california. >> it's up 400% in the last month, and it's rising very quickly. >> but the good news says the doctor, there's still time to get protected. >> it's still enough time to get the flu shot. and the flu shot is really well matched to what's circulating. >> and also circulating are new variants of covid 19. >> we have a couple of emerging variants around and you may need to bolster your immune system a little bit more for some of these variants, but so far the numbers are low. more people are

to other now in a storm that drenched florida with heavy rain and gusty winds will now move out of florida and make its way north. >> the heaviest rain during the day will target coastal georgia, the carolinas and the mid-atlantic region before it accelerates up the coast. now, the storm will reach its peak strength tomorrow when it tracks close to the northeast coast. that system is expected to bring nor'easter like impacts to the northeast coast, just minus the snow. now back here at home, we are tracking another system that's going to be bringing us rain. we've been telling you that all morning. let's check in with lisa on the timing. >> yeah. you know, a four day rainfall totals could be four inches as far north as ukiah. but the rest of us generally over four days talking about 2 to 3in of rain. so it's going to be beneficial. rain a racing our deficit as we head towards christmas. that looks like a dry week end. but beyond that, that last week of december a little bit sketchy. we'll get to that in just a moment. but as we look

at live doppler seven, there has been rain offshore thunderstorms over the waters here. you can see that over the past six hours. and we get in closer. our sweep on top of mount saint helena, our level one system allowing for the rain to moisten up the atmosphere here and bring down light to moderate rain throughout the bay area into the morning hours and into the afternoon as well. so looks more intense than what is going on right now because it is so dry out there. but as we go over the peninsula to the dumbarton bridge and the san mateo bridge, you can see all of this is looking pretty green, meaning that the rain will eventually be falling and down through half moon bay. highway one. looking more at that moisture building in the atmosphere 60 one half moon bay 55, in san francisco with mid 50s around hayward. so a very mild start out there and the beach 55 in santa cruz, low 60s today, 46 in santa rosa with temperatures in the upper 40s. concord livermore 50 in napa. so our forecast headlines hazy,

spare the air for the next hour or so. but then the showers begin to arrive. they'll be scattered throughout the day. and looking at the heavier rain, that level two system with the gusty winds, the downpours may be an isolated thunderstorm today, but more likely in some of the colder air behind the system. on monday and then tuesday and wednesday, a pretty unsettled looks like two day rainy commute monday and tuesday. this is overnight tonight and you'll notice those heavy downpours in the east bay. then by monday, 730, check out santa rosa into concord. very rainy time of it through livermore. then we get a little bit of a break, but the showers on and off could see a thunderstorm. this is 7:00 and the activity lifting to the north, but here comes the next system. tuesday, 730. we have a very rainy commute again and then throughout the afternoon some spotty showers into wednesday. we still are unsettled. going to stop this for you tonight at 11:00. so

anywhere from a couple hundredths to a third of an inch likely around the bay, maybe more than that in the north bay. stopping this tuesday night looking at over an inch and a third in the north bay. and then finally into wednesday, where that system slides down the coast, and the rainfall totals picking up from the peninsula, san mateo, redwood city, belmont , mountain view and ben lowman. so that's the second system. the winds will accompany the first system tomorrow, anywhere from 20 to 30 mile an hour winds. so it will be breezy, it will be rainy. and this is a snowfall total taking you out after christmas. it's going to take a while for the cold air to get into the mountains, and maybe a foot of snow, but that model keeps kind of teasing and not really being. can't really depend on it at this point. that far out low to mid 60s today with the scattered showers tonight the rain is heavier in the 50s with all the cloud cover. level two system. tomorrow the accuweather seven day forecast shows the tuesday rain, the wednesday rain and then thursday with winter

way to the bay area. lisa is here and i'm peeking over at that camera seeing those dark clouds over the bridge. >> yes, it's taken about three hours or so. we've had the rain offshore, but the atmosphere was so, so dry. but finally the rain is beginning to come down. satellite and radar composite here from live doppler seven shows a very active scene getting in closer to the north bay, inverness and lagunitas. you can see the showers there out towards marinwood highway 101, san rafael. even over towards 580 and further to the north in ukiah to uh. we're looking at some steadier rain, but on the peninsula from san francisco, over through the bay there and half moon bay all the way down towards pescadero. so this is a level one system. scattered showers throughout your sunday, breezy at times. more widespread rain throughout throughout the overnight hours. there is a look at the raindrops on mount tam and it is a very mild 55. and there's the rain coming down in the east bay. we're going to track it for you for the next several days, which

includes much of the workweek coming up. stephanie. >> all right. lisa thank you. and with the official start of winter coming soon, some in the bay area are doing everything they can now to avoid additional damage after the whirlwind start of the year. now, places like santa cruz county were battered by brutal storms and some neighbors are still recovering from storm damage to wildfires. santa cruz county has been accumulating major repair costs. in fact, the county says it's already spent $75 million on work. just this from this past winter. >> sometime early next year, we should finish up the permanent repair. so that's what i mean by these things. layering on top of each other. we're just now finishing that. we're going into another winter, so we'll have to see what this winter holds for us. um, we're crossing our fingers that it stays light, but of course, that is not what a lot of people are telling us at this moment. >> happen also encourages residents to clear gutters and fix any leaky roofs at this time. he also recommends anyone to sign up for emergency alerts at crews aware.org. now you can check out the abc seven bay area

playing the cardinals in arizona today. >> yeah exactly. it would have been quite the event if it was this afternoon in santa clara, because we're expecting rain in the south bay with our level one system today. satellite and radar composite with live doppler seven picking up on all the activity offshore. and finally, some of it is reaching the ground. it's taken several hours. we've had that virga where it is rain coming down in the upper levels of the atmosphere but not reaching the ground. but now, as we look at guerneville highway one, bodega bay, inverness and novato high, we are looking at the rain and look at san francisco. solid deck of green here. but as we get into the airport, san bruno 380 a little bit of rain further south from los altos and sunnyvale. cupertino highway 82. there you can see all the green representing some of the light to moderate rain and over into the east bay from richmond, 580 over into berkeley. see some of this not reaching the ground, but we are looking at the next couple of hours with more rain and the scattered showers on tap

for the rest of your sunday, so things definitely changing. not only today, but we're getting into a four day period where we're going to not only add up the rainfall totals, but i think we will erase that deficit that we have had. 55 san francisco. it is 53. in san jose, 61 in half moon bay. some cooler numbers with the cloud cover in the north bay with 46 santa rosa, some rain showers, 54 petaluma. you can see it's dry here. the golden gate bridge 48, in livermore. our forecast highlights. looking at the rain moving in this morning, calling for the scattered showers throughout the afternoon. it's not going to be raining everywhere the whole time, but we'll show you that the hour by hour forecast in a moment. and then monday, tuesday and wednesday it's rainy monday looking at some heavier rain and isolated thunderstorm. not out of the question. so later on today we've got some scattered showers. look at the east bay there. this is the second half of the day where we could see some pretty good downpours. and then as we get into the overnight hours tonight, the rain picks up. 830 monday morning. we've already had a

line of very heavy rain move through for the morning commute, so keep that in mind with the gusty winds. and then here comes another line of rain into about 830. the system pushes to the north, so we've got more rain in the north bay spotty elsewhere here into tuesday. another system catching up behind it, and we've got more scattered showers for that monday morning commute. a bit of a break, but there will be more rain into wednesday. stopping this tonight , and you'll see anywhere from a couple hundredths to about a third of an inch into monday night. looking at the more rainfall that doesn't want to show up on this map, but we have anywhere from 2 to 3in that we're going to be looking at through thursday. so the thursday time frame we're drying out just in time for the weekend here come the winds, 29 to 35 miles an hour at the coast. they continue throughout the afternoon. so you add in the rain and the wind. it's a sloppy monday and for the snowfall, not a whole lot out there in the

mountains starts out as rain getting a little bit colder into the wednesday thursday time frame for about 7 to 9in of rain. so today with the southerly winds, we are mild, but it's going to be rainy at times with low to mid 60s, maybe some upper 60s and then overnight the rain gets heavier. our level one system transitioning to a level two system, gusty winds, heavier downpours, the chance of a thunderstorm and then into tuesday. more rain. and then we get a bit of a break towards the afternoon. but we'll have another wave move through the next couple of days. so it's going to be that on and off type of rain come wednesday and then ending on thursday, and then we're dry for the weekend. okay but multiple days for that morning commute will be tracking. >> yeah. how is this incoming system impacting snow totals at all? is it having, you know, the initially very warm. >> so it's going to be rain in the mountains. and then by about wednesday we get some colder air. so maybe maybe a foot. it's not a great snow maker okay. >> because i know 85 ski lifts are still closed in tahoe right now because of the lack of snow.
