>> building a better bay area. moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc seven news. >> as you can see, the wipers are back on as rain returns to the bay area and the sandbags are also out as heavy rain could lead to flooding in some communities. good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm deon lim. well, that rain has been on and off all day long. and there is a lot more on the way. let's get a check now with spencer and the rain that will get heavier. >> it certainly will, diane. it was heavier earlier today. right now we've got a break from the action in some almost dropped my clicker, some bay area location. so let me give you a look at what's going on. we'll start with the live doppler seven. i did drop the clicker and you can see that right now the there's lightrillionain pushing into the north bay. but the heaviest tivi at the moment is over in the east bay. so from the concord area down to san ramon, into the livermore region and pushing eastward, we have some pretty good isolated downpours right now. but for the most part, we're in a little bit of a break at the moment. as you can

see on the satellite radar, composite image. but more bands of rain will be moving in later tonight, so on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale this is a level one storm through tonight. we can expect periods of scattered showers, maybe a couple of isolated downpours becoming heavier, steadier, more widespread overnight. in fact, this will be a level two storm by tomorrow. so as you look at the forecast animation going into the late night hours, notice how right after midnight we'll see bands of heavier, more widespread rain coming in. it's going to be very challenging for morning commuters. i'll have more on this and the accuweather seven day forecast in a little bit later. dion. >> all right. sounds good spencer. thanks now to abc seven news reporter cornell bernard live in san francisco with a warning. and also some advice about the weather. cornell hey, dion. >> it's dry for now, but the rain definitely back with us. like the sign says, flooding possible here on the embarcadero from high tides. the message be prepared and try to stay dry. rain moved in sunday morning in san francisco, drenching the embarcadero and the golden gate

bridge south of market. these flood barriers are up at 17th and folsom streets to try and prevent the kind of flooding the neighborhood saw last season. >> i thought it was like part of some construction site, so i didn't mind it at all. >> elias greninger is glad the city is prepared for rain because he's not, so i didn't bring a raincoat at all. >> so i don't. i'm not really sure what's going to happen in san anselmo. >> miguel aguilera just filled eight sandbags at this city station to keep his garage dry. >> the water coming in down, down. to the to the gate. yeah, down to the gate. to the garage. >> a very wet parade in downtown petaluma celebrating saint vincent de paul high school's state football championship. the downpour didn't stop, folks from coming out. >> poor kids, they did smile in spite of it. so so good for them. >> it's exciting that the team, the team was able to go all the way to the finals, and we came down to support them, clap and wave and cheer them on.

use. just search abc seven bay area in your device's app store to download it for free. millions of americans will head out this week for the holidays, but the weather is complicating things a bit. here's abc news reporter morgan norwood. >> airlines are bracing for what's expected to be the busiest holiday travel season ever. >> we're going to have to wait in long lines, but it's fine. >> more than 39 million passengers expected to fly between december 20th and january 2nd, according to airlines for america. that's an increase of 16% over the past year. the busiest travel days will be this thursday through saturday, and travelers can expect crowded airports, long lines and possible disruptions. look, they're barricading it. >> i don't want to go through this heavy rain leading to flash flooding in south carolina sunday, nearly eight inches of rain fell near charleston, prompting a flash flood emergency. >> this white suv losing control , slamming into a telephone pole in cocoa beach, florida streets and hollywood beach flooded, disrupting plans for some. >> we're going to have a nice getaway, and this is our nice getaway, but it is what it is, you know that storm now expected to impact the monday morning commute in the northeast?

>> the bulk of the moisture shows up between midnight tonight and 6:00 tomorrow morning. there's good news at the pump. according to gasbuddy, gas prices are at the lowest they've been this year, but those drivers can expect lots of company on the roads. triple a is predicting 104 million people will be driving to their destinations. morgan norwood abc news, new york. >> a surfer had to be rescued in high waves at san francisco's ocean beach today. the man was surfing near ocean beach when strong currents began to carry him away. he says he climbed onto a rock near sutro baths and was able to signal for help for rescue swimmers from san francisco fire department helped get him to shore. that man was not injured, but rescuers suffered some minor scrapes because of exposed rocks in the shallow water. they were not seriously hurt. the u.s. begins increasing pressure on israel for another cease fire, and the confederate statue set to be removed at arlington and brock purdy got knocked down, but he got back up again and led the 40

thick smoke seen rising over gaza's skyline as israel's war against hamas continues in the border city of rafah. >> aid thrown to crowds in the streets, aid starting to move through a second border crossing between israel and gaza. on sunday, officials hoping it will double the amount of humanitarian relief getting to those desperately in need. us defense secretary lloyd austin, traveling to israel monday meeting with israeli officials hoping to discuss israel's next steps in the war. i want them to be focused on how to save civilian lives, not to stop going after hamas, but be more careful. but some say his message to israel is not getting through. >> we continue to see unacceptably high levels of civilian casualties. as meanwhile, protesters taking to the streets of tel aviv demanding answers after israel's defense forces accidentally killed three hostages in gaza, according to an idf official. >> the men left a building in an area of very intense fighting and were carrying a stick with a white cloth. a soldier saw them

little bit of a break between those bands of rain. here's a look at what's been happening over the last 12 hours in our satellite radar composite image. you can see those bands of rain that swept through earlier today. and right now, a little bit of a pause for much of the bay area. but there is rain offshore that's about to move onshore very shortly. and over in the east bay right now, the inland east bay, we have some of our steadier downpours at the moment from fairfield down to bay point over into antioch. that's all pushing eastward right now, but more is on the way, and the 24 hour temperature change shows it's quite a bit chillier right now than at this time yesterday afternoon. seven degrees cooler in napa and novato, six degrees cooler here in san francisco, eight degrees cooler in hayward. so on we go with a look at the dramatic western sky. the post sunset sky 57 degrees right now at both san francisco and hayward. oakland 5459 at san jose, san mateo, 5461 at half moon bay and at the golden gate. we're seeing some patches of clear sky as the clouds are breaking up just a little bit, but this had been a

very wet spot a little bit earlier in the afternoon. right now we're looking at temperatures, readings of 52 degrees at santa rosa and livermore, concord 5351 fairfield, petaluma 50 and 57 at napa. excuse me. and these are our forecast headlines. lightrillionain and showers will continue tonight into tomorrow morning. becoming heavier and steadier as this storm intensifies to a level two storm on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. and tuesday and wednesday, two more rainy days coming. our way before it starts to wind down. so on the forecast on the storm impact scale, this is a level one storm through tonight. we expect more periods of scattered showers. maybe see a few isolated downpours. certainly will. you can expect heavier, more widespread rain during the overnight hours as the storm intensifies to a level two. the morning commute tomorrow is going to be a wet and slippery one overnight. low temperatures will be mainly in the upper 40s to around 50 degrees, and then highs tomorrow low to mid 60s, mainly around the bay. shoreline. low 60s on

the coast. inland areas upper 50s to low 60s. pretty cool inland. tomorrow let's start the forecast. animation 6:00 this evening as more bands of rain start to push into the bay area and intensify overnight through the morning commute and into the midday hours tomorrow, followed by yet another wave of rain coming in tomorrow night into tuesday morning. so that's going to be another wet and messy day. and on wednesday, more showers expected, finally tapering off either late wednesday or early thursday. and by the time this is all over, say by thursday morning at 11 a.m, rainfall totals across the bay area will range from just over three inches to about 4.25in or more. it. is going to be a week. a very wet week of soaking rain for the bay area, but beneficial rain. here's the accuweather seven day forecast level one storm on tuesday. level one again on wednesday. rain expected to end by certainly by mid-morning on thursday and thursday, by the way, marks the beginning of winter. and then we get dry weather on friday and a cool down next week end. dry conditions mainly sunny skies,

motivated then brock purdy. it was a home coming for the phenix area native and in addition to all the family and friends in attendance, purdy brought a legion of 40 niners fans with him. it sounded like a home game in there for the 40 niners. purdy spending some time with his dad, his mom and his fiance before the game. that's nice. cardinals score on the opening drive. the niners match though. don't know how anybody can leave deebo samuel that open seven all purdy's first touchdown of the day. next drive the cardinals going for it on fourth and three. kyler murray picked off by charvarius ward and he smells paydirt. look at that 66 yard pick six. it's 14 seven. he had two interceptions on the day. second quarter near disaster for the niners. purdy scrambling and hit hard. he goes down and had

to leave the game. 40 niners fans everywhere in a collective state of shock. he heads to the blue tent. but he would be okay returning a few plays later. picked up where he left off, throwing a five yard touchdown to christian mccaffrey 2113 at the half. and yes, he is in fact, purdy. awesome. excellent sign. third quarter. purdy rolls out now it's mccaffrey wide open. so wide open he falls down gets back up and he heads into the end zone. no problem. seven touchdowns just against the cardinals this season. cardinals score again. but so do the niners. purdy to deebo for his second touchdown of the game. got to see that from the pylon. cam gets the knee down. purdy threw four touchdowns as the niners win 4529. take their second straight nfc title. and a happy homecoming for purdy. >> you know i've always dreamed of being able to come home and play in front of everybody and just because of how much i know that they have my back and support me. and so i hope i was able to give them a good game. man, i'm excited. >> i'm excited. that was the goal coming in. and that's the

goal every season. that's the standard. >> we just want to get in the playoffs. when you win your division, it's a much better road in the playoffs and i know the guys were pumped about it. um but now our biggest thing is, is making sure we got two home games and trying to get a bye. so, um, that's what we're focused on now. >> next up for the 40 niners, a christmas day matchup with the ravens. spencer assures me the weather will not be bad for that game. the 40 niners will headline a full slate of christmas day action right here on abc seven, including the warriors visiting denver at 11 a.m. now, speaking of the warriors there in portland tonight for the second night of a back to back last night, while steph curry was busy scoring 12 points in a row to give the warriors the lead for a good late in the fourth. up in sacramento for the kings, keegan murray hit a franchise record 12 threes just one off curry's personal best and two away from tying the all time record. still held by klay thompson. it takes a lot to get the world's best three point shooters attention, but murray's feat impressed. curry especially when told he started 11 of 11 and had 12 threes through just three quarters. um you hit it.
