definitely picked up and it will continue to do so over the next few days. wetrillionoads around the bay area for this morning's commute and you're on the way in. >> did you see this tractor trailer that was in the middle of broadway? no. yeah. so definitely there was a spin out. okay, so please be careful this morning. lots coming down really hard. yeah, yeah. >> this morning we do have those heavy pockets of rain and that's going to last for the next several hours. here's live doppler seven. look how active it is. this morning. we have a lot of bright colors. those reds and those oranges, those are the heavy pockets of rain. will press in to the north bay. we have this band of rain pretty much stretching through petaluma, san rafael this morning. napa even has some heavier rain. vacaville as well. and along the peninsula we're seeing some heavy rain. look at this from south city through san mateo, down into palo alto and live doppler seven. estimating some of this rain is falling at nearly half an inch per hour. so that is some heavy rain. we're dealing with right now on the abc seven storm impact scale. this is a level two, a moderate storm until about 10 a.m. today. showers, heavy at times, gusty

winds as well. those are picking up over 25mph. so it is a wet morning commute. will likely see areas of localized flooding on our area roadways that could cause spinouts. so just be aware it is a very slow morning commute on the way. here's future weather. we have those heavy downpours through the next couple of hours after 10 a.m. we'll start to the showers become more scattered and lighter in nature, but they will hang around for the afternoon. that's how the forecast looks this morning. let's see how we are doing on those roads this morning. sue good morning. >> it's a tough one. good morning drew. good morning everyone. it's wet. it's sloppy there. standing water. and we've got a jackknife. big rig. now this is in castro valley. it is currently blocking all lanes on its side. this is not going to be fun. and it's going to be out there for a while. it's west 580 approaching castro valley. as you can see coming down the dublin grade, you are just basically stopped bumper to bumper as you head to that accident. we also have another accident westbound 580 in oakland at 23rd and near highway 24 as well. so we're seeing some

slow traffic all around the bay. and as drew mentioned, solo spinouts. there's seven of them now. and that's just going to increase. guys >> thank you sue. so if you are commuting to work you want to give yourself a little extra time. we're already seeing flooding and all the things sue just mentioned on the roadways. abc seven news reporter lena howland continuing our storm covers. lena, what are you seeing out there? >> well, kumasi already this morning, we are seeing a very slick go around for drivers trying to make their way out the door. this morning with a lot of rain and quite a few problem areas. take a look. this video taken over night shows some of the rain hitting san mateo hard. it gives us a good picture of just how slick the roads were. driving northbound on highway 101, and it also shows a wet mall parking lot showing a bit of pooling near hillside boulevard and el camino real. it was a similar story over in oakland overnight, with reports of more flooding and yet drivers were still speeding right through it. we also saw some flooding on fifth and adeline street with water spilling over the westbound 880 freeway

overpass onto fifth street. it was like part of some construction site, so i didn't mind it at all. >> the water coming down, down to the to the gate. yeah down to the gate. to the garage in san francisco. >> we caught up with a few people filling up sandbag bags proactively yesterday, south of market, these flood barriers are up at 17th and folsom streets to try and prevent the kind of flooding the neighborhood saw last season. so with the slick roads, you're going to want to have to give yourself some extra travel time when you head out the door this morning and be sure to take that drive extra slow. live in san francisco lena howland abc seven news. >> thank you lena. now in the north bay, workers are preparing for the rain this week by deflating a rubber dam on the russian river. the dam near forestville is being emptied to prevent flooding that might happen with this storm. it's typically inflated in the spring or early summer when water demand increases. >> new developments in the israel-hamas war. the united

nations security council will reportedly hold a vote today for a new resolution calling for an urgent cease fire. it comes after the destruction of a hospital in northern gaza, where eight patients died, including a nine year old child, this morning. the israeli military claims to have uncovered a new hideout of the hamas terror group this new video from the idf claims to show the tunnel, which is two and a half miles long and large enough to drive a car through. meanwhile, families of hostages being held by hamas are camping outside israeli military headquarters demanding new negotiations to secure their release. >> the only way to bring hostages alive is by negotiation and by a deal. i know we are doing a deal with the devil. i'm sure. i know it's tough, but this is what we have the calls for negotiation come after the israeli military mistakenly killed three hostages on friday. >> investigators say soldiers thought the men were a threat

and shot them. the men reportedly had signs asking for help, but it's unclear if the soldiers saw the signs. >> this morning, two major freight train crossings between the u.s. and mexico will be temporarily closed after border agents detected a surge in people being smuggled across the border on trains. officials say 4000 people were detained yesterday alone. it comes as a u.s. senate has delayed the start of its holiday break to try and agree on a new framework for securing the southern border negotiators met for hours yesterday but downplayed the possibility that a deal could be reached before christmas. republicans are demanding border security improvements before agreeing to new support for israel or ukraine. >> to all the national security expert, when you say if we don't have ukraine, they could lose and the world would fall into chaos. putin will keep going. i agree with you, but if you're a national security expert, you should have the same energy and vigor to fix a broken border. >> this morning, former president donald trump is facing criticism for his anti-immigration comments about

blood purity, which echoed slogans from world war two. trump doubled down last night, saying if he's reelected, he will carry out, quote, the largest deportation in america. >> the san francisco based uber is making its debut on the s&p 500 index today. the s&p represents the 500 largest companies in the stock market. uber is worth about $127 billion, making it the largest u.s. company not currently on the index. the impact of this could be felt beyond wall street. that's because many of our retirement accounts are tied to funds that track the s&p 500. when a company like uber joins the index, those funds automatically buy its stock and that could potentially drive up the stock price. >> an iconic san francisco business, closed for months, will be back open just in time for christmas. larry a bakery, was forced to close after a fire in august, and it's hoping to reopen in a few days. the north beach staple has been around since 1911, and it's famous for its focaccia, the scirocco family says they're grateful to be opening just in time for the

holidays. they say christmas eve is the busiest day of the year for business, with customers lining up sometimes as early as 3 a.m, one of san francisco's last remaining toy stores may have to close its doors if business doesn't pick up soon. the beloved jeffries toy store in union square, which has been family owned and operated since 1938, has been hit with hard times. there were once seven jeffries toy stores in the city, but this one on kearny is the last one. the pandemic's been hard on people uh- the uptick in crime. >> we. i look around me right now and i see so many buildings that are closed and are shuttered, um, why are we here? well we love san francisco. we love toys and, um, we're the type of family that just doesn't give up, the store's co-owner says this week will be the determining factor on whether or

mateo, the san mateo bridge certainly is going to be very slow this morning as this heavier rain moves through and we have a pocket of heavy rain on highway four, pretty much stretching from pittsburg to antioch through brentwood. so we do have these lines of heavy rain. this morning, all associated with an area of low pressure. the low pressure way back here. it's about a couple hundred miles off shore and it's pushing this cold front into our neck of the woods. this morning, supplying us with that plume of moisture. it's a level two, a moderate storm on the abc seven storm impact scale today. we'll keep it at a level two until about 10 a.m. after 10 a.m, the rain becomes lighter, but it's still with us for the rest of the day. so the heaviestrillionain first thing in the morning. it lightens up in the afternoon, but still we'll keep scattered showers in the forecast even through this evening. temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s this afternoon. reggie drew thank you. >> we'll take you to sfo to see how travel is going there for folks who are already heading out of town. >> also, a car rams into a secret service movie with president biden right nearby.

landers has more on the investigation. >> overnight, a momentary scare for president biden and first lady jill biden. mr. president, why are you losing to trump in the polls? >> ron paul? >> when a car in the president's motorcade was struck by a vehicle as they departed from a staff dinner at his campaign headquarters in wilmington, delaware, this seemingly startled president whisked into his car by the secret service. the first lady was already waiting in the suv. neither were her hands. right now. okay. the

driver putting his hands up. a statement from the secret service says a vehicle securing the president's motorcade was struck by another vehicle. there was no protective interest associated with this event. and the president's motorcade departed without incident. the wilmington police added that they are working to determine if impairment was a factor in the incident. sources tell abc news that the incident did not appear to be politically motivated, and president biden is scheduled to stay in delaware through tuesday . in washington, liz landers abc news. >> a busy week ahead for airports all across the country. and of course, that includes sfo here in the bay area. officials say thursday the two busiest days leading into the christmas holiday, families at sfo yesterday only experienced small delays at security. abc seven news reporter josh stone spoke with performers from the lion king, who are having to travel right now. >> so i'm here with the lion king national tour right now, and heading home for the day to

a couple of weeks ago. rod falling from this ladder while hanging his mother's lights and uh- looked up and kind of got that feeling. >> all of a sudden, like you get when you stand up too fast and next thing i knew, everything just kind of show trunk. and then i was on the ground and i kind of remember going through the rose bush a little bit. >> he also remembers being in a lot of pain, ended up with a separated shoulder, contusions in my chest, um, bruised bones, but amazingly enough, no broken bones. >> we pull up here and there's christmas lights all over the ground. he's on the ground, ladders toppled over. so of course we go right to work on rod. >> and they got him into the ambulance and on his way to the hospital. and it's right as this crew was packing up that they decided to stay and hang the lights themselves, and we all stopped there for a moment and we said, let's just put the lights up for her. >> i mean, it was just so fantastic that they would do such a thing for me, you know? >> and, um, i'm going to cry all

city, down through the peninsula. now approaching the east bay, oakland, san leandro, hayward now seeing some heavier pockets of rain. just a slow monday morning commute. take a look at sunnyvale, cupertino, santa clara, san jose, even milpitas right now. los altos. seeing that heavy rain in your neighborhood and it's going to stick around for the next couple of hours. so the storm concerns we have this morning, the highest one is for ponding on roads, water to standing on roads leading to a slow morning commute. could see pockets of localized flooding. because of these downpours that are slowly crossing through us, power outages will look low because the winds are not too strong and this is a pretty warm storm. so we're not talking about a lot of sierra snow. unfortunately, temperatures right now were basically on either side of about 50 degrees. so here's future weather. we'll keep the heavier rain through 10 a.m. after 10 a.m, you notice the showers become more scattered in nature and lighter, but they stick around for the afternoon and the evening. we'll keep that on and off. shower chance for the rest of our monday winds. do pick up later on this afternoon.

transportation secretary pete buttigieg saying with a failure this large, there has to be consequences. he says this sends a message with a new standard and level of accountable. this all goes back to the holidays last year, when southwest canceled 16,900 flights after an operational meltdown, stranding more than 2 million passengers. the department of transportation found southwest didn't provide adequate customer service assistance, flight status notifications, or prompt refunds. the airlines has since paid out more than $600 million in refunds and reimbursements, and now they'll have to pay $140 million in fines and make changes to the way they compensate passenger fares. >> what we're doing here is sending a message to the entire airline industry. you need to take care of your passengers, and if you don't, there will be consequence as and southwest saying in a statement, we are pleased that we reached an

morning. a live look from our bay bridge toll plaza. thatrillionain is coming down heavy at times. and the day planner. what i really want you to take away is that the heaviestrillionain is between now and about 10 a.m. after 10 a.m, the rain lightens up, but it still sticks with us for the rest of the afternoon and the evening. but the next 4.5 hours or so is when we are finding the heaviestrillionain, and we are seeing numerous flood advisories being issued this morning because of the heavy rain dealing uh- some pockets of flooding in parts of the bay area, especially the east bay shoreline from richmond down through berkeley, oakland, san leandro, this one just issued. this will last until 845 this morning because we are seeing pockets of water standing on a roadway. similar story for the city and southern marin county. a flood advisory in effect until 830. you can see live doppler seven. it is very active this morning tracking those heavy rain bands moving through over the next couple of hours on the abc seven storm impact scale. it's a level two moderate storm this morning until 10 a.m. that's when we expect the worst

the old and with the new. >> always the romantic. true lovers. look for the silver lining. >> mhm. >> uh huh. mhm. >> sure. all right. this morning let's take you to live doppler seven. we have a lot to talk about. flood advisories are being issued pretty fast this morning. you see a lot of bright colors on the screen indicating heavy rain. i want to take you inland right now. you can see from danville, san ramon, dublin over into livermore, then back into castro valley. we have heavy rain this morning. that's the red you see on live doppler seven. we have numerous flood advisories, one for southern marin county and the city of san francisco. another one issued for parts of the east bay shoreline from richmond down through san leandro. and now we have a new one issued for parts of napa and sonoma county. this is a big portion of the north bay from guerneville, healdsburg, santa rosa, penngrove, saint helena, napa. what this means is that heavy rain is creating areas of localized flooding, and some of that flooding is happening on our area roadways. that's really hard to see see when it's still dark outside. so what you'll need today, take the umbrella with you. the rain jacket, the rain boots. give yourself some extra time. you don't need the
