misconception of the homeless population. i think a lot of people in the bay area are one paycheck away from homelessness. >> david smith, better known as pastor dave, has been working with the homeless population for more than three decades in that time, he says, a lot has changed. >> ten years ago, god bless you. ten years ago, it was uh- people from the ages of 45 to 60. now you're seeing men and women in their late early 20s. and in our program we have of, you know, 19 and 20 year old as we get seeing a lot of young mothers, pastor dave says that the bay area rescue mission, they don't just believe in handouts, but instead what he calls hand ups. >> they offer more than just food and shelter. their year long vocational program helps people get off the streets and on their feet. come effort is a graduate of their culinary arts program. >> i'm so grateful they have a program like this in richmond to be able to help individuals. they need.

the naughty this christmas. nationwide, there were only 157 flight cancellations today and about 2100 flight delays. many of those were caused by dense fog at chicago's midway international that affected mostly southwest flights, including some from california to new york, waiting to see the bills play. >> got the victory at. and then everything kind of went downhill from there. >> southwest airlines canceled just 2% of its flights today. you may remember a massive improvement from last year when the carrier suffered a catastrophic failure of service during the holiday season. 24 flights were delayed at san jose international airport, most of
11:15 pm
them arriving flights. one southwest flight from dallas to san jose was also canceled. well, the national park service is replacing railings at the base of the golden gate bridge, but apparently not everyone is happy about it. the new railings started going up along marine drive at fort point, where they're made of aluminum and can blend into the grayish background, but many people were attached, apparently to the old rusty ones. they looked like nautical chains. you see here and reminded many of san francisco's fishing heritage. the park service says the new fencing improves safety. the full work will be complete by late january. well if you were hoping for an after christmas sale to get a new apple watch, you are likely out of luck starting tomorrow. apple stores can no longer sell any apple watch series six or later, or any model of the apple watch ultra. the u.s. international trade commission determined a feature that reads blood oxygen levels violates a patent held by

a medical device maker, app. apple watches without the feature can still be sold, though president biden had until today to overturn that ruling. when it comes to christmas day meals, not many have been doing it as long as saint anthony's foundation in san francisco. it served 1500 meals to guests in the tenderloin today, continuing its more than 70 year tradition as abc seven news reporter melanie woodrow shows us, some of the volunteers have been around for decades. >> for 73 years, saint anthony's foundation has been serving guests a hot meal on christmas and for 20 years, the wasserman family has been volunteering to help. this is josh and he was seven when we started doing this . >> it's a very important part of our tradition. it taught me at a very early age the importance of working community service into your life and your schedule. >> allison wasserman, now 32 and living in los angeles, travels back to san francisco to volunteer every year. >> i honestly like i can't
11:17 pm
remember not doing it. >> we love the mission and the message and you know, yeah, we could be doing anything, but we get up and this is what we do. it's now as part of our tradition, just trying to help other people instead of saying at home and unwrapping presents. >> the saint anthony's foundation interim ceo brian young. it was a great opportunity for us to connect with our community, connect with our guests and serve them a warm meal. >> but at the same time serve them a smile as well. christopher harris appreciated being able to spend his christmas here. >> i have no family here. >> they're all back in the east coast and this is a blessing. >> the difference seeing anthony's makes extends beyond the holidays. david white says he used to sleep outside saint anthony's was addicted to crystal meth and with nothing left nine months ago, he changed his life with their help. >> my life is so much better now. >> now he works at saint anthony's in guest services. i was finally ready to change.
11:18 pm

the weather with alex cheney. hi, alex. >> merry christmas everybody. a tough night for those 40 niners. here's the satellite and radar perspective. so once again, some light showers moving through the bay area overnight. it's going to be the same thing all the way up through portland and through the seattle area as well. tomorrow temperatures should be right about the average, maybe just a little bit warmer. so 63 degrees tomorrow in the south bay and santa clara, 63 degrees in san jose. let's now look here. so 58 degrees in pacifica tomorrow, a couple 60s in palo alto and also down into los altos. let's look at san francisco city proper, 57 degrees across the board here from daly city, the sunset district, and into downtown north bay to wine country. lots of mid to upper 50s. tomorrow. it's going to be a nice cool day outside. 59 in santa rosa and 59 degrees in napa. let's take a look at the east bay here. a couple of 60s like in hayward. a new york gets to about 60, and also fremont will be at around 61 degrees tomorrow. and also 58 in pittsburgh, 58 degrees in
11:20 pm
concord and 58 in san ramon. okay, here's a futurecast. i think by the middle of the week, especially by wednesday, a pretty good sized system does move into the bay area. so the futurecast this is wednesday at about noon. you can see showers all the way from half moon bay going pretty far north up into santa rosa and into napa. what this means is that first it's going to hit the bay area as some rain, and then as it moves into the sierra, i will forecast just a little bit of snow for lake tahoe. so if you're going to be heading out that way, maybe for any new year's plans or just to enjoy, you will have some fresh snow. i think by the middle of the week, if you are heading out that way, you can go ahead and enjoy that. and then thursday looks nice and clear, but things change for the weekend. more on that. just a moment for tomorrow. los angeles a beautiful 66 degrees lake tahoe will be at 47. a salt lake city. the rocky mountains area has been very chilly over this christmas holiday weekend. tomorrow, 34 degrees in santa fe gets really chilly in new

mexico, southeast new orleans is at about 58 degrees and 75 in tampa. and how about miami at a very warm. and i'm sure it's going to be a humid 80 degrees as well. let's roll out that seven day forecast. it looks great this week. so once again some showers are going to be on wednesday with some of that strong wind as well that we just took a look at. a few showers will linger into thursday and then i think here it is here over the weekend, friday night into saturday. there's going to be a chance for some scattered showers, but fortunately everything is going to clear out by new year's eve and then it's going to be a really nice sunny start to your 20-24 coming up here on monday. so once again, here's another look at the seven day forecast temperatures stay right near 60 degrees this week with thursday looking like it's going to be the warmest day of the next seven at about 64. and then 2024 is going to be a really nice start for you. i'm going to forecast a high temperature of 60 degrees in most areas through the bay area. it's been a pleasure to bring you your forecast this weekend, and i hope everybody had a very

games, but now chubba is deciding to transfer schools still to be determined. the younger purdy still has two seasons of college eligibility left, and if he accepts cal's offer, he would have to compete with three other quarterbacks for the starting job. we shall see. now, speaking of sports, this was not the christmas the 40 niners had in mind. once again, let's get to abc seven news sports director larry beil with more in sports. larry >> dion. the baltimore ravens, they spoiled this holiday party. or should i say purdy? brock purdy picked off for four times tonight by the ravens. that's next in sports
