[ laughter ] they know i bring it. >> that's what you asked about last year. she said what are you going to say yes to? i say marriage. it was absolutely -- i'm so glad you encouraged me to
8:32 am
put it out to the universe like that. >> yeah. you did it, surprised us. then you got married. you had this beautiful year. when we put those intentions into the universe and say yes for what we desire, we send a message that we are claiming what we want. we are going to say yes. >> it's about manifestation in 2024. >> manifest more in 2024. >> okay. what do you mean by that? >> i really believe this is a year where we can start to turn our obstacles into opportunities. where we can say yes to what we desire. recognize the moments in our life where we have an intention and we want to put it out there. you can put it on a piece of paper. this is what i do every new year. write it on a piece of paper an then bury it. i go outside, take a shovel and bury it. by burying this affirmation, i am saying, thank you, universe, from taking this from me. i deserve something better. really putting that out there.
8:33 am
this is something better releases the attachment to that desire. put out what we want and see what happens. >> i like how you also said turn obstacle into an opportunity. our family motto, my sister comes up with one every year. love more in 2024. it's about the more. when things start going awry, you might have the best intentions but things aren't going quite how you think they should be, what do you do? >> in december i had a bit of an inner shakedown, robin. >> you did? >> you know those moments where you're like, things are not exactly how i want them to be. while i was going through that inner shakedown, breakdown to break through, my mantra kept consistently, over and over was, obstacles are detours in the right direction. >> say that again. >> i woke up every day and i would say thank you, these obstacles are detours in the right direction. so someone is out there right now and they're struggling and wanting more in 2024 but they don't see the path forward.
8:34 am
say thank you to the obstacles because they reveal to us what is of our highest and best. so if you can open your heart to that, such a big shift. just shift your energy in the next moment to a new path. >> it's about affirmation, mantras. i know you always have a deck of mantras. i know you have a deck. >> thank you. >> okay. this is one i experienced today. when i'm tuned into the energy of abundance, i become abundant. when we're claiming the energy of how we want to feel, we create more of it. know the thing when you wake up in the morning that the sheets are nice and warm and you have that beautiful cup of coffee. or when you're doing your makeup, with your family. you're giving that preacher prayer in the morning. that's you not saying, i'm tired. that's you saying, i'm leaning into the abundance in that moment. each moment offers us the
8:35 am
opportunity to lean into what's working and thriving. when we focus on what's thriving, we create more of what we want. >> i'm so glad you're saying this. it's about the moment. we're always looking back or forward and not just really taking in the moment. in fact, you said sheets around you that are cold or whatever that feels good. >> in this moment, i'm with you. i love seeing you every new year. >> i always look forward to this as well. i love how you say, and sometimes people don't understand this, get outside of yourself. random acts of kindness can really be something we should manifest and be part of our new year? >> yeah. i have a little 5-year-old at home. in my home, we really practice what we preach. i wanted to teach him a really powerful manifesting tool. not even a manifesting tool, just a happiness tool. random acts of kindness. this is how i live my life. i'll randomly buy the coffee for the woman behind me, or i will just engage in conversation.
8:36 am
so i wanted to teach my kid this. i went on -- i am a full blown canvas designer now. if you need any ads here at gma, i can do it. i made this piece of art. it was a calendar. it say ollie's random acts of kindness. has a soccer ball in the corner. we put this on the fridge. every day ollie will do a random act of kindness. he'll walk up to the fridge and mark off how many he gets. i want you to have one. you can have it in your office or dressing room. just the intention we make to just show up for people randomly. it just infuse us with so much positive energy. you feel so good when we're kind and caring to the world. >> it just has to be a little thing. >> tiny thing. add them up. >> i know. sometimes we feel everything has to be big. >> one small action daily. >> always look forward to it. my friends and family are exhaling right now. >> you did it.
8:37 am
what are you asking for this year, robin? >> no, no, no. [ laughter ] that was last year. i do say love more in 2024. >> that is good. love more in '24. >> i want people to know, for more of gabby's tips to start 2024, her intentions, go to our website, good morning america.com. or you can scan the qr code on your screen. do yourself a favor. i know it's january 8th. maybe you have already fallen off of your resolutions. start today. start now. coming up, sterling k. brown! best selling author james patterson are both here. you're not gonna show sterling k.? he was all ready to be on the show? come on, show sterling. there you are! 8:41 am
tracy ross. legendary leslie ogdem. it is such a wonderful joy to be part of a film that has this incredible black ensemble telling a story that we don't normally get a chance to see told in hollywood. >> you didn't hesitate. you were on a plane, read the script, you call your agent. >> that's right. i said, how can i be down? every once in awhile, and sometimes you think, the part's not that big. i don't care. what the movie has to say about representation in this media means so much that if i can get in there any kind of way, shape, form or fashion, i'm there. >> let's take a look. did you know dad had affairs? >> for sure. >> how? >> you can just tell. lisa told me she saw him kissing a white pop once? >> why did i have no idea? why am i the last to know? >> because you loved him too much. enemies see each other better than friends. >> what did you give her?
8:42 am
>> oxycodone. knocks them right out. >> you give her opioids? >> yeah. you ever see a heroin addict? they take naps standing up. i'm keeping an eye on her. i'm a doctor. >> we just saw there, this is a great cast. jeffrey wright, tracy ross. i mean, these are your siblings. >> yeah. >> if you were a real family -- >> okay. >> -- who would be the naughty kid? who would be the responsible? give us a breakdown. >> i think casting is pretty much right. jeffrey is the oldest. tracy's in the middle. i'm the youngest. i'm the youngest in real life, so i have certain qualities that led to the character. i just take it on all at once. >> you've been married for 18 year, two kids. you have a podcast coming out around valentine's day tentatively called we don't always agree. >> we don't always agree with sterling k. brown. my better half, it was her idea.
8:43 am
we shot 12 episodes so far and we're still married, so i consider that a success. it will drop on valentine's day. just us talking about our lives and experience and where we sort of come together and where we disagree. >> we look forward to that. >> thank you. >> i heard you say you don't want to play the same role twice, and that you're looking to be in a classic rom com. >> i would love a rom com. my wife and i love, something more comedic or harry met sally, something like that. they don't make enough of them right now. they used to be done all the time in the early '90s. they've sort of gone away. i would love to be like a dashing charming guy who got splashed by water and he dries himself off and haphazardly falls into love. [ laughter ] it's a good time. >> if you're auditioning today, you got the role. >> thank you very much.
8:44 am
>> we'll make a call this afternoon. [ laughter ] >> also you want to play a super action hero? >> listen, if anybody from the super hero universe wants to talk to your boy, i try to keep it tight. >> oh! [ laughter ] >> yeah. [ laughter ] there we go. >> i can do a little strut. bam. >> you did not disappoint. thank you for being on gma. >> thank you very much. >> "american fiction" is now playing in select theaters and hits everywhere on friday. ginger? >> i'm buying tickets to that rom com stat. i can't wait to see it all. let's start with what happened over the weekend. an ef-0 tornado. this was ft. lauderdale, florida. unbelievable video there. you see that motion, that vertical, then that twist. 1.5 miles.

8:46 am
poe on the case, it's fun and exciting and interesting and a little different. i think people that don't read me, even they will like this a lot. it's just a different way to approach mysteries and crimes. lot of chaos. talk about chaos. just before this, hole mmarple and poe. how do you beat that? >> i assume those originals had a huge influence on you. >> totally, growing up. holmes, it's interesting. there's only four holmes, sherlock holmes novels. >> that is hard to believe. >> i read them all. because they get so much bigger after, you know, the author wasn't around. i don't want that to happen to me. i want the big things to happen while i'm around, you know? then christie with miss marple. she wrote about 20 of those. >> we'll be seeing more of this from you? >> yeah. we're going to do this again. holmes, marple and poe 2.
8:47 am
very exciting stuff. >> you are are genius with collaborators. how do you fine your collaborators? >> do you want to do it? >> sure, let's do it. >> you're too slow.
