last week's alaska airlines flight was anything but. >> tonight, the chair of the ntsb spoke more about this incident and addressed the larger issues of trust with these boeing 737 max nine jets. >> first of all, we're really focused on this aircraft uh- however, we are not shy about going broader than just this aircraft. we need to first and foremost figure out what happened here. >> boeing is now embroiled in scandal. united airlines and alaska airlines say they have found loose parts on multiple grounded max nine aircraft. some are telling us they're having their flights canceled into this weekend. >> abc seven news reporter lauren martinez has more on the investigation tonight. >> the chair of the ntsb and her team provided new and detailed information monday evening about alaska air flight 1282. jennifer homendy said communication between air traffic control and between crew members was a challenge. >> the communications was so

poor that they felt like they they really needed guidance and information. and it was it was pretty terrifying. >> event flight attendant interviews revealed they were concerned about the four unaccompanied minors and three lap children in the cabin. >> this was a really significant event with zero information at the time. there's a lot of trauma on monday morning, the ntsb retrieved the door plug that had blown off bob sawyer, a science and physics teacher in portland, oregon, found it in his backyard. >> it's pretty incredible is how i would describe it. it was, uh, surprising. we were very careful not to touch anything during that time because i figured the ntsb would want to see it in a condition that had fallen in the ntsb will send the door plug to their lab in washington, dc. >> sawyer's next door neighbor found a headrest in her yard. one of the passengers on flight 1282 said the force of the door blown out was so strong it took

off a young man's shirt. >> so at first i thought it was just the window, and then i realized it was the whole panel and that the kid who was sitting in that row, like his seatbelt, had saved his life, because that's why he didn't have a shirt on, was the suction had just torn it off. >> homendy addressed recent reports of loose bolts being found during inspections by united alaska and boeing. >> we need to first and foremost figure out what happened here on this aircraft. if we have a bigger system wide or fleet issue, we will issue an urgent safety recommendation. asian to push for change. >> now, an ntsb engineer said they have not recovered four bolts that help restrain the door plug or if there were even bolts there in the first place. meantime cnn is reporting boeing is having an all employee meeting tomorrow to discuss the response in this incident in san jose, lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> but they are. all right,

lauren, thanks so much. let's turn things over to the weather department for a few minutes because as you can see from our exploratorium camera, there are some rain clouds moving in. and abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is tracking what's coming. sandy. >> yeah. dan what you're going to need is an umbrella. first thing out the door tomorrow morning. take a look at live doppler seven. the system is up around the pacific northwest right now, but that's going to slide southward. and that's when this level one storm will bring us the wet weather. just as your commute begins. so we go hour by hour tomorrow at 5 a.m, the north bay is getting rain. the showers will spread as we head into 830 tomorrow morning, and the south bay will see the rain last between 11 and noon is when we're expecting that wet weather. it is level one on our storm impact scale for tomorrow. scattered showers under a third of an inch for most areas, slippery roads and gusty winds are expected, but this isn't our only rain chance. take a look at what you can expect as we head towards the weekend. i'll be

back with a closer look in the seven day forecast. coming right up, ama. >> all right, sandhya, thank you. and you may remember how winds blasted holes into several skyscraper in downtown san francisco early this year. tonight, the city is making some changes. high rises built after 1998 will now be required to have window inspections every five years. a san francisco board of supervisors committee just passed the policy. building owners will have to do visual checks every five years in a more comprehensive inspection every ten. new at 11. >> a newly written bill is designed to ban youth tackle football in california for kids under the age of 12. a committee in the state legislature will take up this proposal on wednesday, and as you can imagine, it's already igniting a firestorm of opinion. that's why we're making it. tonight's abc seven news advancer at 11. our way of getting you on top of some of the headlines. you'll hear more about in the days to come. here's abc seven news reporter tim johns. >> it's one of america's favorite pastimes. but for kids under the age of 12, tackle

football could soon be a relic of the past. in california, it's all thanks to a new bill authored by sacramento assembly member kevin mccarty that's making its way through the state legislature. >> when we look at kids under the age of 12 to tackle football is a high risk sport, doctor brian feely is the head of sports medicine at ucsf. >> he says he supports the bill because of the elevated risk of concussions that comes with tackle football. feely says these risks are especially heightened for young kids whose brains are in their most important stages of development. >> you're at higher risk for anxiety, depression, even suicidal ideation, julie says. >> instead of tackle football, flag football is a far safer option. not everyone agrees with this bill, though. that includes some local coaches here in oakland who tell me they fear that it will disrupt impact young kids of color do a lot of low income families. >> a lot of, uh, families that go through struggles maybe not have a male figure at home. chewy or and damon gardner are

the coaches of youth tackle football team. >> the oakland dynamites. they tell me for teams like theirs, football is more than just a sport. it's a way to teach kids about things like friendship, leadership and camaraderie. they also say sports besides football also carry the risk of injuries. >> you can jump in basketball, you can fall down, hit your head, guy, concussion. look at the picture. you playing baseball. they throwing 90mph at you. >> and as for flag football coaches chewy and damon say they don't think it's a suitable alternative flag football just doesn't carry enough kids. >> we have 30 kids fly football typically don't have have maybe have about 15 in oakland. >> tim johns, abc seven news. >> so this debate is going to continue. the assembly bill will be discussed during a committee meeting on wednesday. it's the first of many steps, of course, before becoming law in 2019, the governor did sign a law with safety requirements for kids playing tackle football only on

seven. >> we have new data that could support the claims that an inner complete freeway project is now endangering east bay drivers, sections. of interstate 80 and hercules have either no painted lanes, beat up reflectors or temporary paint job. three months after caltrans finished repaving the lanes, the chp says 16 accidents have happened. since it's a concern in the morning when the sun's reflecting, you don't see any lines. >> it's a concern when it rains and it's a concern at night. so let s say more than half the time that the freeway is being used a lot of residents and drivers cannot see the designated lines at all. >> residents are navigating the area as a dangerous guessing game, not knowing where to go, where to change lanes, or when to merge into traffic from the on ramp. caltrans acknowledges the issues and blames their contractor and the weather. >> the contractor did not get out and complete the work that was assigned, and we got into sort of the rainy season in and when the rainy season hits, then

law enforcement memorial service for officer lee is on wednesday at 10 a.m. it's open to the public. the service will be held at the three crosses church in castro valley. >> now, the latest on the explosion that rocked fort worth, texas. windows blown out, debris spread across the city. the public is being asked to stay away from the downtown area tonight, as the search for survivors continues. investigators say at least 21 people were injured in the blast at a downtown hotel fire officials believe the blast was some type of gas explosion, but it's still unclear what may have caused it. >> just a huge boom. just just mean, just exactly i mean, it was like a scene out of a movie. it felt like the sound waves, like go through your body. >> firefighters were able to rescue several people who were trapped in the basement of the building. one person who was injured told authorities she could smell gas in the air before the explosion. >> a woman who crashed her truck

south of mount baldy in southern california has been rescued after spending nearly five days trapped inside her vehicle. her damaged ford ranger was spotted by hikers yesterday near the border of san bernardino and los angeles counties. the truck was found about 100ft off the side of the road. the woman told rescuers she drove off the road when she swerved to avoid hitting a deer. last wednesday, she was airlifted to a hospital for treatment, but a big new lawsuit has been filed representing hundreds of residents accusing their counties of negligence. >> the images were striking one winter ago, flooding in pah'-ha-roe, a town with a large farm worker population. the suit claims monterey and santa cruz counties are responsible for the failure of a levee, causing widespread flooding and damage. some feel it's their only hope of repair, anticipating impacts to last for generations. we've reached out to both counties for comment, but because this is pending litigation, both declined. mayor london breed wants to bring more visitors to the san francisco zoo, and she is hoping panda diplomacy will

help make that happen. >> the mayor sent a letter to chinese president xi jinping asking for one of those beloved bears to be sent over for a stay here. tourism is a big reason why the mayor says the zoo set visitor records when it briefly had pandas for a couple of months in the 1980s, the mayor says she directly asked president xi to consider loaning san francisco a panda as he left the apec summit here in november. in light of apec and in light of some of the things that the president himself has said about panda diplomacy and the desire to develop better relationships with the us and china, this is one of the ways in which you can do so. pandas are national treasures in china. panda diplomacy is when the chinese government shares pandas with other countries as a goodwill gesture. >> in los angeles tonight, stars attended the premiere of disney's new series echo. it's a spin off of the marvel miniseries hawkeye alaqua cox
