have to shoot him. they did not have to kill him. and this does have to stop. it is getting out of hand. >> al-hasani will be buried at cemetery in livermore. so far no arrests have been made. >> his life is just as important as the police officer's life. they caught the killers of the police officer within a few days, and i think this is what we are demanding from uh- a community from residents of the city of oakland, from business owners uh. they are scared and we are demanding from the police to apprehend these criminals and bring them to justice in oakland, anser hassan abc seven news and tomorrow, a public memorial will be held to remember oakland police officer tuan lay. >> this was a memorial for him set up inside the oakland federal building, where he worked security before joining the police department. he was killed in the line of duty ten days ago, marking the department's first death since 2009. there was a brief police procession yesterday in tribute, with a much longer one expected tomorrow from oakland to castro

valley. ahead of the memorial. that memorial will be held at three crosses church in castro valley. you can watch the entire ceremony on abc 724 over seven streaming. our coverage begins at 10:00. the service is expected to last until about 1130. in the south bay, the police chief of the bay area's largest city announced today that he's leaving the department. >> san jose police chief anthony mata says he plans to retire in the spring to take on a new role. abc seven news reporter zach fuentes has reaction to the news today and more from officials on now. the search for a new chief of the san jose police department is losing its leader, chief anthony mata made the announcement tuesday morning that he's leaving in march to take on a new role with the county. >> in a statement, he said in part, i believe it is the right time for me to embark on a new role with the santa clara county district attorney's office. i'm incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement i've received throughout my career in. mata, has been with the department for 28 years, and has been chief for three. he'll now work as the investigations bureau chief for the santa clara

county district attorney's office. d.a. jeff rosen spoke with us about mata's new role. >> chief mata is going from handling everything san jose related to uh. a little bit of a in some sense, an even broader focus in that a lot of the things that our bureau of investigations does is help other agencies in the county, other police departments with particularly complex or challenging investigations. >> the department has seen multiple controversies in recent years that includes an investigation that revealed racist text messages by an officer who shot a black man. one other controversy saw an officer accused of masturbating while responding to a call at a home for domestic disturbance. this video shows mata walking the fired officer out the door. despite the challenges, san jose mayor matt mehan said he's pleased with mata's work and put a premium on accountability and transparency. >> he has fired officers for misconduct. i mean, he has been serious about walking the walk on, holding everyone to a very high standard, mehan said he'd like the replacement search to be both within the police department and across the

country. >> the silicon valley chapter of the naacp say that they would like to see someone from outside of san jose take on the role. >> a police chief that comes in and understand that the police belong to the community, and they're not an occupying force, a police department that is diverse and concerned about diverse issues and will do whatever they can to revealed and get rid of bad cops. >> the san jose city manager hopes to announce an interim chief and start the recruitment process for a new chief, before chief mata leaves in march in san jose. zach fuentes abc seven news. >> san francisco supervisor dean preston is calling for a historic safeway location to reconsider its plan to close the safeway is located in the city's fillmore district on webster. streetrillionight next to japantown. today supervisor preston introduced a resolution for the grocery store to work on a development plan that includes the needs of the community. he says closing the store will harm fillmore and japantown residents. the safeway has been around for 40 years in oakland, antioch, the mayor there, is hoping to take action against

blight tonight at the city council meeting. >> he plans to introduce measures to hold absentee corporate landlords accountable for the upkeep of their vacant properties. abc seven news reporter ryan curry has more. >> this center was once the place to shop in antioch. frank sterling remembers those days. uh- right over behind us here was like the roundtable pizza longs. >> lucky's all the stores where my parents shopped growing up as a kid. >> now it's practically a ghost town. trash everywhere, windows boarded up, broken glass in the parking lot, practically no shoppers. mayor lamar thorpe puts some of the blame on the landlords of these buildings, he announced tuesday the city would take legal action. >> well, all we've utilized up to this point is code enforcement and some fines, but obviously we need to take greater legal action to ensure that we get these properties in a state that is, is fair to everybody. >> the delta fair shopping center has a lot of empty buildings, unhoused have used some of these buildings for

shelter, sometimes causing major problems. nisha torres family store is still closed after a fire broke out back in october. in the abandoned building next to it. >> basically, there were there was a homeless encampment inside of the old food max building that led to the fires and our family business of 22 years was redtagged, she says, has been abandoned for more than ten years and claims the landlords haven't made an effort to find a new tenant. >> she says they've allowed unhoused to take it over, but there were upwards of like 50 homeless people living inside of the old food max building, so. >> so it's kind of a uh- concerning because, you know, it just kind of went unnoticed. it fell on deaf ears. i'm not sure the property is owned by true family, llc. >> we reached out to them and have not heard back yet. the owners applied to redevelop this land into a housing unit back in 2020, when they were also concerned about blight. but mayor thorpe and others on the council voted to pause the

project over concerns about the landlord. >> he's not here to answer questions and i'm not supporting anything and i don't know if my colleagues feel the same, but i'm not supporting anything until he can answer our questions. this is about trust, and i don't trust them. the owner of that property we had issues with, he owns several other properties in antioch that are run down and that are not to the to the standards that we want to see. >> the plaza remains unchanged. it's currently a place people do not want to shop in. antioch. ryan curry abc seven news i woke up and said, where's the rain? >> and then it came. but by this afternoon the rain had cleared out. this is a live look at the conditions right now. but do not put your rain gear away just yet. abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is here, with details on when that wet weather will return. sandhya, it will be back as early as tomorrow morning. as we take a look at a live picture. right now it is absolutely gorgeous. following the system that came through. this is from pier 39. you can see the post sunset view looking good. we did have some wet weather. some showers moved through the bay area earlier today.

area media he unveiled a lot about what it's been like over the last three. and a half weeks, being away from the warriors. and now he's back with the team practicing getting ready. draymond green has missed 17 games this season due to suspension. he's mostrillionecently coming off a 12 game indefinite suspension for hitting jusuf nurkic about a month ago in phenix. now that most recent suspension was the reason he was away from the court. he's back on the floor. you see him right there ramping up getting ready. there's no timeline yet. but he says he wants to be back with the team as soon as possible. now green has always been a player that pushes the line on the floor and after meetings and self reflection in the last month, he says he can be that high energy player without all the extra stuff. >> when i look back on these situations, it's like, can you remove the antics? i'm very confident i can remove the antics and i'm very confident if i do remove the antics, no one's worried about how i play the game of basketball, you know? nobody's worried about how i carry myself in the game of basketball, but it's the antics. i've made a commitment to do things to make sure that those don't creep in.

landowner. >> we'll have a series of five meetings the last week of january and 1st of february, and then we'll be reconvening those community meetings again in march. >> the napa valley wine trail coalition is facilitating the talks as they expand bike and pedestrian access along the vine trail that will eventually run from vallejo to calistoga, right past the welcome sign in napa. i'm leslie brinkley, abc seven news. >> it is beautiful. it is all right. >> things are changing once again in the weather. >> that's right. abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel has what's coming our way. sandhya, we have some more wet weather. >> believe it or not, coming our way. and that is because we have a couple more storms to deal with. so let's get right to the rainfall. first, and then we'll talk about what's coming after that. we did get a decent amount of rain for some parts of the bay area. not everyone measured a quarter of an inch. in san francisco, 5000/500 in mill valley, but look at san jose.

only two hundredths of an inch. santa rosa 1500. trace amount in concord and half moon bay. about a quarter of an inch of rain. looking at live doppler seven, the energy and all the action has been across the pacific northwest, but northern california, starting to see some more showers and snow showers. eventually we'll get some of that wet weather moving in our direction. right now it is pretty quiet on live doppler seven. a few clouds lingering that coastal flood advisory a reminder because of the king tides. 8 to 11 a.m. tomorrow, though, is when you're likely going to see minor low-lying flooding. so if you're taking a walk outside, taking the dog out for a walk, maybe along the coastline, watch out. here is when the king tide comes up close to 10:00. so 940 ish, 6.8ft, and you will notice the high tide will repeat on thursday and again on friday. and you combine that with a northwesterly swell building that is going to lead to some more issues later on in the week. so keep that in mind. low 50s right now from san francisco to oakland. a beautiful view of the golden gate bridge. 54, in

hayward, san jose 52. right now in half moon bay, oakland airport camera. it is mainly clear right now, but definitely is cool outside. low 50s from napa to santa rosa 54, concord 53, livermore and one other live picture from our santa cruz camera. a post sunset view tomorrow. so wet and gusty. thursday morning. chill and sunshine and saturday are unsettled. pattern is going to continue as another storm comes in here. speaking of, it's a level one for tomorrow, so scattered showers, gusty winds, slick roadways might honor low lying flooding due to the king tides and the high tides combining. so here's a look at the winds. first it is gusty out there. we're going to remain gusty tonight 8 p.m. over 30 mile an hour winds near the coast. that's where the strongest winds are expected tomorrow morning. 25 to 33 miles an hour near the beaches. and you will notice the winds really ramp up tomorrow evening. over 40 miles an hour. when it's coming off the ocean like that, it is really going to feel even

colder and those temperatures will drop thursday morning. so let's talk about the rain drops 5:00 tomorrow morning. justrillioneal spotty in nature. and then at 730 more areas start to see those showers. and the showers become a little bit more extensive. at noontime we will see some pockets of wet weather through the afternoon. this continues through the evening. so this system is going to have a little more umph than the system that came through this morning. rainfall estimate. with tomorrow's storm anywhere from about 500 out towards fairfield to about 8/10 of an inch in ukiah. snow in the sierra? you betcha. there's a winter storm warning 4 a.m. tomorrow until 1 a.m. thursday. above 3500ft. expecting 1 to 2ft. highest peaks up to three feet. with those gusty winds, snow rates 1 to 3in an hour and the snow levels will be lowering. to about 2500ft. so travel is going to be an issue and it could be impossible. so keep that in mind. 30s and 40s tomorrow morning. the chill is back. you will definitely need a jacket
