by rain. >> some parts of the bay area are just starting to dry out after getting more than four inches of rain in less than 24 hours, with more rain on the way, we are taking a look at saturday's storm impact. good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm dionne lim, abc seven news reporter cornell bernard discovered the aftermath of that staggering amount of rain. >> flooding from the storm left some roads in west marin underwater. pacific way here in muir beach was closed near the pelican end. many cars turned around, but a few drivers decided to risk it. >> the day will not be stopped. >> we're expecting this. >> i was not expecting this at all. you know, we just get a little bit of rain here for one night and rivers flood. >> this is pretty much the only access road to muir beach, and many hikers and bikers. we're not ready for all this water. >> yeah, it's quite a surprise. um, definitely made for an interesting hike at the end. a little bit of a swim.

>> we're gonna hitch a ride in a pickup truck and, uh, get through this. this foot deep water of good luck. >> minutes later, greg and a friend got a lift on highway one. there were small rock slides. no surprise, after the storm brought an epic amount of rain. >> the north bay got so much rain that they could use a bit of a break. mount tam i don't know if you heard, but 5.52in of rain so that was a little excessive as it never stopped raining all day in the east bay. >> gusty winds likely brought this tree down overnight on lasalle avenue in piedmont. fortunately it happened early in the morning. >> there's no because sometimes there's cars parked here. it could have hit a car. could kids getting out to play soccer or whatever. so thankfully, you know, no injuries, a big cleanup job after the storm, cornell bernard abc seven news crews in the north bay spent part of the day cleaning up storm damage. >> after this tree fell and the tree took down some power lines

when it toppled yesterday in occidental, it blocked bohemian highway and closed the road for a time now. we dried out just a bit today, but not enough to fully recover from the rain. taking a live look outside a pretty sunset. at least. abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian takes a look at the soggy spots. and yes, they still do exist. >> they do. dionne. we had quite a few soggy spots. you heard our own lisa argen say of mount tam had 5.52in of rain. check out this list. i didn't have to include mount tam. saint helena had 5.32in of rain the last 24 hours. santa rosa 4.84in 4.02. at novato, you can see the north bay was the wettest region as it often is. redwood city, just under two inches 1.71 in oakland and san francisco had just under an inch and a half. now, as you look at satellite image, the radar image right now, you can see it's dry. there's a little bit of green in the showing up there because we have moisture in the atmosphere. but it is not raining in the bay area right

now. we don't expect rain for a while. looking at the overnight forecast animation, you can see some clouds moving through. also some clear sky as well. partly cloudy overnight and for much of the day tomorrow. but there is more rain in the relatively near forecast future. i'll give you a closer look at that in just a moment dion. >> all right spencer, thanks. and a reminder you can track the forecast anytime with the very same live doppler seven radar. spencer uses. just search abc seven bay area in your device's app store to download it. now in the north bay, two dogs died in two separate crashes involving their owners this morning. the first happened on rohnert park expressway at 7 a.m. rohnert park police say a man was walking his dog across the road when he was hit. the man suffered from cardiac arrest and died a short time later. his dog was killed. the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. now about an hour later in rohnert park, a dog was hit and killed by a driver, who then drove away. that happened at dowell del and millbrae.

officers say a man was walking his dog on the southbound shoulder when the dog was struck . the man was not hit. police are now looking for the driver of a lifted blue toyota pickup tundra truck, with damage to the lower front end in the east bay. two children are recovering after being hurt in a freeway shooting. chp says they were in the back seat of a car headed north on i-8 80 near hacienda avenue in san lorenzo, police say. at about 7 p.m. yesterday, the driver pulled over to report the shooting. we don't know the victims ages, but police say one was shot in the leg. the other shot in the stomach. they were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay. today marks 100 days of war between israel and hamas. in san francisco, thousands came together at civic center plaza for a march of solidarity. we are rich and resources and life and steadfastness. people

traveled from all across the west coast. organizers say they're demanding an immediate ceasefire and end to all u.s. aid to israel and accountability of all officials responsible for war crimes. there have been pro-palestinian marches all across the globe this weekend and yesterday, tens of thousands gathered for a rally near the white house in d.c. more than 6 million student loan borrowers may be eligible for forgiveness sooner. next month, those enrolled in the save plan, who initially borrowed $12,000 or less and made ten years of payments, may have their debt canceled. abc seven's stephanie sierra spoke with congressman mark desaulnier about those changes coming. >> the average student loan debt borrowed for a four year bachelor's degree was 30,520 20. that's according to the national center for education statistics. do you think that $12,000 figure the ceiling should be raised? i

think we have to consider these things. >> stephanie. what we're struggling with is young people don't have the same opportunities that people in my generation had in terms of the cost of housing, the cost of education. so we're the administration and we democrats on the committee are trying to address that. >> the consumer financial protection bureau said friday that borrowers are dealing with inaccurate and untimely billing statements and often delays in processing. have you received reports about any of this in your office? yes and this has been a struggle for a long time. >> um, unfortunately, some providers, um, don't aren't as ethical as they should be. so we've got to make sure that we hold people accountable. >> and what are you doing specifically to hold them accountable? >> we've done a lot of things over the course of time. i've been in office when i was in the legislature, uh, we made people actually prove what their marketing said about the value of their education. um, identify that and we continue to do that at the federal level, looking

responded to the scene. officials say the smoke was no harm to the public, but they closed the area to drivers and pedestrians just to be safe, basically because the area was closed, patrons weren't allowed to go and shop on this block. >> unfortunately, i know it's a holiday weekend and it's a long weekend. people want to be out and about. it looked very intense, but really of no harm to anyone. in the area. it was just a large amount of steam being produced. >> officials are still investigating the cause of the rupture, but no injuries were reported. san jose state is remembering a coaching legend who passed away, claude gilbert died after a long battle with lung cancer. he was 91 years old. gilbert is the only san jose state university football player to earn a varsity letter, be named a team captain later returning as an assistant coach, and then also be named head coach. he played for the spartans in the late 50s, and was assistant coach and head

coach from 1981 to 1989. a chp officer in the bay area or office, i should say, is now permanently closed after 20 years. the castro valley chp office closed its doors for good on friday evening. the office is consolidating with the hayward chp office will be, which will now be covered. cover fairview, cherryland, san lorenzo and castro valley later this year. staff from the combined offices will be moving into a new. facility in hayward. the chp says the move will eliminate staff redundancy and that staffing levels in the castro valley area will remain the same. people are marking mlk day with a special faith service and service projects. we'll take a look at how the bay area is keeping the dream alive, creating unity and sharing love. >> i'm spencer christian. the upcoming week we'll get off to a dry start, but it won't last long. i'll have the accuweather

petition letters, and assisting with voter registration in the east bay gathering to bring awareness to gun violence. while honoring doctor king, the antioch library held a showcase for an exhibit known as the soul box project, alongside moms demand action. it's a community art display that aims to illustrate the number of people impacted by gun violence, accidents, and suicides. community members were invited to create their own soul boxes. each box has space for a name, image, and message of protest or hope and is meant to promote healing. well, check this out. in tahoe, an avalanche warning for today has been canceled. things have remained calm since all of that rain, those strong winds and heavy snowfall from overnight heavenly resort reports nearly 18in of powder. they are seeing dangerous conditions out on the roads with tow companies responding to more crashes and spinoffs. experts say to come prepared with the proper tires, as there are

emeryville 57 right now up in santa rosa, petaluma 54, napa 5250 at fairfield, 52 at concord. livermore 55. and looking across the embarcadero, let's check out our forecast headlines for the week ahead. partly cloudy tomorrow for mlk day. tuesday and wednesday, we expect periods of rain and showers. it looks like tuesday may be wetter than wednesday, but both days will bring some rainfall. and then going into the weekend, it will be wet and unsettled all over again. for tonight, we'll see. partly cloudy skies with lots of clearing as well. there's a slight, slight chance of a little pop up sprinkle or two of the north bay tomorrow morning, but we're talking generally dry conditions for the next day. day and a half. overnight, low temperatures will be mainly in the low to mid 40s. high temperatures tomorrow, generally in the upper 50s across the north bay except santa rosa, which will be at 61 degrees. and then as you go southward, you'll see a few areas topping out at 60 degrees san mateo, palo alto. down at san jose, we expect a high tomorrow of 62. now let's resume the futurecast, the

forecast animation starting tuesday morning at 9:00. notice we'll see a little bit of lightrillionain pushing into the north bay by about 2 p.m. or so. an area of more widespread rain in the north bay sweeping southward by mid afternoon and becoming more intense. a steadier, heavier rain sweeping through the entire bay area late tuesday into tuesday night. so the evening commute tuesday will likely be a slow and wet and messy one. so when we go to the accuweather seven day forecast and as you can see, after tomorrow's dry day, we expect a level one system coming in on tuesday as rain returns. some morning showers on wednesday, and a milder day with high temperatures getting into the low 60s, it will remain mild and dry. on thursday. on friday and saturday gets even milder with temperatures rising into the mid 60s. but it also is going to get wetter with a level one storm that will start on friday and likely continue through the weekend. we
