are just starting to dry out. after getting more than four inches of rain in less than 24 hours, with more rain coming, we are taking a look at saturday's storm impact. good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm dionne lim, abc seven news reporter cornell bernard discovered that aftermath of the staggering amount of rain. >> flooding from the storm left some roads in west marin underwater. pacific way here in muir beach was closed near the pelican end. many cars turned around, but a few drivers decided to risk it. >> the day will not be stopped. >> we're expecting this. >> i was not expecting this at all. you know, we just get a little bit of rain here for one night and rivers flood this is pretty much the only access road to muir beach, and many hikers and bikers. >> we're not ready for all this water. >> yeah, it's quite a surprise. um definitely made for an interesting hike at the end. a little bit of a swim. we're gonna hitch a ride in a pickup

truck and, uh, get through this. >> this foot deep water. good luck. minutes later, greg and a friend got a lift on highway one. >> there were small rock slides. no surprise, after the storm brought an epic amount of rain. the north bay got so much rain that they could use a bit of a break mount tam i don't know if you heard, but 5.52in of rain so that was a little excessive as it never stopped raining all day in the east bay. gusty winds likely brought this tree down overnight on lasalle avenue in piedmont. >> fortunately, it happened early in the morning. there's no cause. sometimes there's cars parked here. could have hit a car. could kids getting out to play soccer or whatever? uh, so thankfully, you know, no injuries, a big cleanup job after the storm. >> cornell bernard, abc seven news crews in the north bay also spent part of the day cleaning up storm damage. >> after this tree fell, that tree took down some power lines with it. when it toppled

yesterday in occidental, it blocked bohemian highway and closed the road for a time now. we dried out a little bit today, but not enough to fully recover from the rain as we take a live look outside. still looking just a little bit gray out there. abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian has a look at the soggiest spots at least we saw some rain though. oh, we did, we saw quite a bit of rain. >> in fact, dion. but we also saw quite a bit of sunshine today. let's take a look at a list of some of the wettest locations in the last 24 hours. a saint helena received 5.32in of rain in the 24 hour period. santa rosa 4.84in and novato 4.02. so you can see that the north bay was our wettest region, but there were significant rainfall totals in other locations. redwood city, nearly two inches oakland, nearly an inch and three quarters, and san francisco nearly an inch and a half. so it was a wet period. but right now we're drying out just a little bit. as you can see on live doppler seven. however as we animate the satellite and radar, you can see there are clouds with some moisture moving in our direction. it will probably have

a dry day tomorrow though, as certainly during the overnight hours. but by tuesday we expect another storm system to start pushing into the bay area. and just here's a little bit of a hint. by tuesday morning it will be getting wet in the north bay, and by midday tuesday, virtually all of the bay area will see some rainfall. i'll give you a closer look at this and the accuweather seven day forecast in just a few minutes dion. >> all right. sounds good spencer. thanks and you can track the forecast anytime with the same live doppler seven radar spencer uses. just search abc seven bay area in your device's app store to download it for free. in the north bay, two dogs died in two separate crashes involving their owners this morning. the first happened on rohnert park express way at about 7 a.m. rohnert park police say a man was walking his dog across the road when he was hit. the man suffered from cardiac arrest and died a short time later. his dog was also killed. the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police about an hour later in rohnert park, a

dog was hit and killed by a driver, who then drove away. that happened at dowdell in millbrae. officers say a man was walking his dog on the southbound shoulder when the dog was struck. the man was not hit. police are now looking for the driver of a lifted blue toyota pickup tundra truck with damage to the lower front end in the east bay. two children are recovering after being hurt in a freeway shooting. chp says they were in the back seat of a car headed north on i-880, near hacienda avenue in san lorenzo. police say. about 7 p.m. yesterday. at that time, the driver pulled over to report the shooting. we don't know the victims ages, but police say one was shot in the leg while the other was shot in the stomach. they were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay. today marks 100 days of war between israel and hamas. in san francisco, thousands came together at civic center plaza for a march of solidarity. we

are rich and resources like love and steadfastness. traveled from all across the west coast. organizers say they're demanding an immediate cease fire to end all u.s. aid to israel and ask for accountability of all officials responsible for war crimes. there have been pro-palestinian marches all across the globe this weekend. yesterday tens of thousands gathered for a rally near the white house in d.c. east bay congressman mark desaulnier is calling for more transparency in the aviation industry. desaulnier, who sits on the house committee on transportation and infrastructure, joined us on the air this morning to talk about the recent incident involving an alaska airlines jet, the 737 max nine had to make an emergency landing. you'll remember, after part of the fuselage blew out. he says he's added provisions to an faa reauthorization bill in the senate to ensure more trans tsay this way, it would be clear

the streets, which led to grant avenue and post streets being shut down. san francisco police and fire, along with p-g-and-e's, responded to the scene. officials say the smoke was no harm to the public, but for safety reasons, they closed the area to drivers and pedestrians, basically because the area was closed. >> patrons weren't allowed to go and shop on this block. unfortunately, i know it's a holiday weekend and it's a long weekend. people want to be out and about. it looked very intense. yes, but really of harm to anyone in the area. it was just a large amount of steam being produced. >> officials are still investigating the case of the rupture, but no injuries were reported. a father and his five year old son were rescued today in pacifica after getting caught in high waves while surfing. multiple agencies responded to a call of two people struggling in the water north of maury point. both father and son were caught in the water for at least 30 minutes. rescue swimmers pulled the pair from the water and

transported them to waiting firefighters and paramedics on the beach. cpr was administrated for at least one of the victims. both were transported to the hospital and are in critical condition in san jose state. is remembering a coaching legend who passed away, claude gilbert died after a long battle with lung cancer. he was 91 years old. gilbert is the only san jose state university football player to earn a varsity letter, being named a team captain. he later returned as an assistant coach and then also be named head coach. he played for the spartans in the late 50s and was assistant coach and head coach from 1981 to 1989. people are marking mlk day with a special faith service and service projects. we'll take a look at how the bay area is keeping the dream alive, creating unity and sharing love. plus, taking a live look outside where things look pretty clear. for now at least, we will need that rain

the need to come together for the need to pray for peace >> this is the 37th year for the celebration. well, today glide memorial church in san francisco honored martin luther king junior through service and celebration. the community joined the church to assist with trash pickup and handing out supplies to the homeless. >> we're honoring martin luther king, jr. day of service at action. so we're inviting the community, the world community, to join us here at glide. excellent turnout, bigger than we expected, and we're so happy people are really engaged. and being part of this, this effort to really, you know, engage with community and to help our homeless individuals. >> the celebration also included a call to action, the signing of petition letters, and assisting with voter registration. over in the east bay, a gathering to bring awareness to gun violence while honoring doctor king, the antioch library held a showcase for an exhibit known as the soul

box project. it's a community art display that aims to illustrate the number of people impacted by gun violence, accidents, and suicide. community members were invited to create their very own soul boxes, with each box having a space for a name, image, and message of protest or hope. they're also meant to promote healing. in tahoe, an avalanche warning for today has been canceled. things have calmed since all of the rain, strong winds and heavy snowfall overnight. heavenly resort reports. nearly 18in of powder. they are seeing dangerous conditions out on the roads with tow companies responding to more crashes and spinoffs. experts say to come prepared with the proper tires. there are currently no chain restrictions on highway 50 or on interstate 80. if this is a sign of things to come for the season, buckle up, i would say so. >> it looks like we've got a series of other storms headed our way, and some of those may dump more snow in tahoe. so we'll wait and see. right now

here in the bay area, things are dry down as the rain from yesterday has long departed, but we've got some moisture in the atmosphere that's being picked up on the radar image there. it shows up as green, but that is not rain that's headed in our direction right now. we're talking about partly cloudy skies tonight. uh, currently we have calm winds at the surface under ten miles per hour, and we can see areas of clear sky out there. here's a look at our current temperature readings. 54 degrees in san francisco and hayward, 52 at oakland and half moon bay. we've got 55 at san jose. well, and 53 at san mateo. that's the one. i almost skipped over a live view from emeryville. looking westward under partly cloudy skies, 53 degrees up north right now in santa rosa. it's 50 at petaluma, napa, fairfield, concord, livermore, 54 degrees. and let's check out our forecast headlines for the week ahead. partly cloudy for martin luther king junior day tomorrow. then on tuesday, rain starts to move into the bay area so we can expect periods of rain and showers tuesday into wednesday. and then as we head into the weekend, another wet and unsettled pattern will develop.

so here's a look at our forecast animation overnight. we'll see some clouds passing by, but also lots of areas of clear sky going into tomorrow morning. and lots of sun tomorrow. overnight low temperature will be mainly in the low to mid 40s. high temperatures tomorrow generally in the upper 50s to about 60 degrees. not a very wide range, but relatively mild for this time of the year and skies will be relatively bright. but the forecast animation starting tuesday morning at 9:00 shows our next rain maker move again. starting first in the north bay tuesday morning. then by mid afternoon we'll see a wide area of rather steady and sometimes heavy rainfall sweeping through the central bay area down into the south bay and out to the east bay. the evening commute on tuesday is likely to be a wet and messy one, and rainfall totals will be, well, generous. here's the accuweather 70 forecast. so here's a look at this next level one storm on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale that will start on tuesday, continuing to wednesday. we get a break on thursday, partly cloudy to
