mensa, his mother saying she knew he was born with a special gift. >> wow. >> wow. bright years ahead for that little one. >> all right. good morning everyone. it's monday, january 15th. >> yeah. why don't we get started with a check of the forecast with drew? so, drew, how's it looking out there? >> good morning. a little bit of fog this morning in the north bay. dense fog advisory is in effect until 11 a.m. you can see why napa. it's been ebbing and flowing this morning. we're still less than a mile visibility, but outside of the north bay, things are just fine. we do have mostly cloudy conditions. temperatures it's not one of our coldest mornings we've had in the past week, but numbers are in the 40s and low 50s. as you step outside 1 or 2 layers needed underneath that jacket, for sure. here's how the day shapes up. we have partly sunny skies early on. it's a little bit brighter as we head into the afternoon, and daytime highs. a very pleasant most of us going into the low 60s, but wet weather is back in the forecast tomorrow. we'll talk about that coming up in a few minutes. let's check in with sue and see what traffic is doing this morning. hi, sue. hello, drew, and good morning, everyone.

>> martin luther king junior holiday and it's light out there. no need for metering lights this morning at the bay bridge toll plaza. everybody is moving just fine at the limit here and even across the span into san francisco and popping down to san jose. this is 8-80, those tail lights headed northbound up towards the san jose airport. and again, everything is moving well here. we did have an earlier accident in san pablo. it was 80 westbound. it's been pushed off to the shoulder just after hilltop. you can see it's all green now. no problem getting past the scene, ladies. >> all right sue, thank you. developing news now. an investigation is underway after a plane went down off the coast of half moon bay. witnesses say they were having dinner in moss beach, just about two miles from the half moon bay airport, when they heard the engine sputter out. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live in half moon bay. lena, what's the latest? well, stephanie, we are at the half moon bay airport, where we are seeing a coast guard helicopter here parked on the tarmac at the airport. >> and we also know that the sheriff's office deployed a

drone, a drone about two miles away from here, near moss beach. and that's where they believe they saw what could be a plane wreckage in the water near the coast. in this video, you can see what appears to be a helicopter hovering above the pacific ocean with the spotlight out, cruise told the coast guard a number of other agencies and a rescue swimmer were involved in search efforts to find any possible survivors. as officials describe the aircraft as a small plane, possibly with two propellers. the sam, the san mateo county sheriff's office is not saying how many people, if any, were on board and they haven't said if anyone has been recovered yet. we talked with a witness who was from maine and was eating dinner when this happened, having dinner out on the patio, and we heard this, like, motor engine, like puttering. thing, like you hear in the movies when a plane's about to crash and you hear the buttering of the engine, figure something was wrong because it was so close to the to the

restaurant. >> and then the engine cut out, and then it banked in and we lost. we lost sight of it. at that point. it's just difficult to get out there with the way the tides have been. >> tides are very high. there's very limited visibility. as you can see, it's very dark out. but from what i understand, there is coast guard that's currently out there and in the water. >> last night at the half moon bay airport, we saw a life flight helicopter used to transport patients. we haven't been told who was on this rescue helicopter, and if they were on board a plane that went down in the ocean. now it's still not clear if the search for survivors is still going on at this hour, or if it was suspended overnight because of difficult conditions. lions live in half moon bay. lena howland abc seven news. >> all right, thank you, lena. investigators on the national transportation safety board are beginning to examine the door plug that flew off in the middle of an alaska airlines flight at the agency's headquarters in

washington, d.c. in aerospace engineer and a chief technical advisor unpacked that door plug over the weekend. this recently released video shows the horrifying moments of the jet door being flown off east bay. congressman mark desaulnier says that he's added provisions to an faa reauthorization bill in the senate to ensure more transparent tsay. this way, it would be clearer to know which mechanics assembled the door. >> it's very frustrating. the aviation industry has done a lot of pressure by, um investors to make more money, and we want to make sure that those profits don't come at the expense of the safety of the traveling public. so whether it's boeing, um, or any of the airlines we're working very hard to make sure they get the message that the congress is watching. >> he says congress will make sure the faa does its due diligence and ensure that boeing 737 max nines will not fly again until they are safe.

>> a third suspect in the killing of oakland police officer twan lay is now charged with murder. 30 year old marquis cooper's arraignment is set for tomorrow. police haven't given any specifics about cooper's alleged role in the shooting. last month, someone shot and killed lay while the officer was working undercover after a burglary at a cannabis business. a total of four suspects, including one man charged with burglary, are all being held in jail. the other three, besides cooper, are expected to enter pleas on thursday. we are rich and resources live and steadfastness >> in san francisco. thousands rallied over the weekend at civic center plaza for a march of solidarity to mark the 100th day of war between israel and hamas. people traveled from across the west coast to call for an immediate cease fire and an end to all u.s. aid to israel. since the war broke out on october 7th, the associated press reports that more than

23,000 people have been killed in gaza and more than 1200 people killed in israel, 132 hostages still remain under hamas control, 121 have been released and 33 hostages have died. in hamas captivity. >> now, san francisco mayor london breed is slamming the recent cease fire resolution passed by the board of supervisors supervisor dean preston proposed it last month, and the board passed it on tuesday. speaking to the jewish news of northern california, mayor breed said in part, quote, what happened at the board of supervisors during this last month did not reflect our values . while i support the need for community members to be heard, the process at the board only inflamed division and hurt our partners at the san francisco standard obtained this response from supervisor preston. it says in part, quote, the resolution was passed by a supermajority of the board of supervisors following outreach from tens of thousands of constituents over the past month of negotiations. prior to its passage. we haven't heard any concerns from the mayor's office months of

campaigning across iowa has led to today's caucuses. >> candidates are out in full force today as the state continues to get slammed by the frigid cold. here's abc news reporter and nguyen guy kicking off this election year after months of campaigning, the first in the nation iowa caucuses, subzero temperatures and blustery winds still slamming the hawkeye state gop frontrunner donald trump rallying sunday, downplaying the weather. >> it's all indoor, so you're not going to have to worry about that, the former president, who faces 91 criminal charges imploring his supporters to deliver him a decisive victory. the big event at 7:00 am and hopefully we're going to have some tremendous numbers, trump holding a dominant 28 point lead in a new des moines register nbc news poll. >> nikki haley and ron desantis, now in a heated race for second place haley with our eva pilgrim. >> what i love about the poll is i was the only one going up and everybody else was going down.

broke in downtown san francisco, a large plume of smoke filled the streets. near union square yesterday, grant avenue and post street were shut down. officials say the smoke was no harm to the public, but for safety reasons, they closed the area to drivers and pedestrians because the area was closed, patrons weren't allowed to go and shop on this block. >> unfortunately, i know it's a holiday weekend and it's a long weekend. people want to be out and about. it looked very

intense, but really of no harm to anyone in the area. it was just a large amount of steam being produced. >> officials are still investigating the cause of the rupture. no one was hurt. not all bears at lake tahoe are hibernating right now. check this out. some want to be out in the fresh snow. a bay area snowboarder and her family saw this black bear while they were on the slopes of lake tahoe. danielle brill was snowboarding at heavenly. she saw the bear twice on the same run and then quickly snowboarded away. both times to try to avoid it. you could see the bear running right there, she says. it was a tense encounter and it was a drenalin. >> i think he got spooked and he started running full force. he just wanted to get all the way out of there, and i'm glad i wasn't in the line of uh- of full, full force running. it was exciting and very sweet, and he was gentle. and i think, you

here's future weather. it's a cloudy start tomorrow morning. we're dry in the afternoon here comes the showers. first in the north bay, then becoming more widespread with their coverage. this is 9 p.m. tomorrow evening and there you can see we are tracking some scattered downpours. so at times we could have some bouts of heavier rain before this front clears us first thing wednesday morning. but the next seven days i just want to show you the map. it looks to be pretty active across northern california, starting friday night through the upcoming weekend, we will have a period of some heavy rain coming our way, and those totals could add up in spots. looking at several inches of rain over the next seven days, here's the accuweather seven day forecast. dry today for the holiday rain returns here tomorrow. it's a level one storm on the abc seven storm impact scale and then that active pattern really kicks into gear starting friday evening and through the upcoming weekend. we're watching sunday closely where we could have heavy rain at times. sue all right, drew, we go outside to the richmond san rafael bridge a little busy, but not too bad. >> in fact, it's pretty light for this holiday monday morning. no delays getting to the toll

3:00 this afternoon. well people in communities across the country are coming together to reflect and celebrate the life and global legacy of the civil rights leader, doctor martin luther king in san francisco. thousands of people are expected to take part in a march. a parade will begin at the caltrain station by the ballpark and head to yerba buena gardens, about a mile and a half away. it starts at 11:00. after the march, there will be a interfaith service, and mayor breed is expected to attend the annual mlk celebration. train will bring hundreds of people into san francisco for this march. this is video from previous years. every year, the train makes its way from san jose to san francisco, commemorating the historic 54 mile march. doctor king led from selma to montgomery in 1965. the train leaves from diridon station at 930 this morning. it will stop in palo alto and san mateo before making its way here to san francisco. coming up next at 630, rescued from big waves,

sue good morning. let's go outside. >> here is live doppler seven. it is quiet on this holiday. we have some clouds streaming in for a mix of sun and clouds. today, our next storm system is brewing off the coast. you can see low pressure starting to wrap around right there. here's the front and that will affect us tomorrow afternoon and in the evening. but today, enjoy the dry weather. it's very pleasant, upper 50s to lower 60s with a light breeze out there overnight. tonight we stay mostly cloudy and we'll have those temperatures in the mid 40s to the low 50s. the abc seven storm impact scale in effect tomorrow, especially in the afternoon in the evening for scattered showers, ice downpours. just prepare for the tuesday evening commute to be a bit messy as thatrillionain moves through. here's future weather tomorrow morning is a quiet start to the day. we'll see those showers arrive in the afternoon. pretty light and scattered in nature but becoming more widespread as we head throughout the afternoon and the evening. with those isolated downpours creating some low visibility rainfall estimates. with this storm system, anywhere from about a 10th to up to three quarters of an inch of rain is expected. but the pattern over the next seven days is pretty active. as we head towards friday and into the upcoming

game yesterday in frigid conditions. kristin jaskowiak, who is. married to 40 niners fullback kyle usec, designed this jacket. it it has, of course, travis kelce's jersey number on the puffer jacket and a few weeks ago, deebo samuel also pro, wore a custom brock purdy mvp jacket, also designed by kristen. so it runs through the team. you can see she's having a great time. they're wearing it. >> yeah i like that jacket and look so warm too. wow. well some people had a sweet weekend in san francisco. one resident held a giveaway for thousands of boxes of a popular japanese snack. it's called pocky. a man named jake posted these photos on facebook. his friend, who is an entrepreneur, said that someone showed him an email to a startup accelerator that had the pocky and they tell our news partner the sf standard, that they took the delivery of 400,000 boxes of the snack as a joke. they've been giving out the boxes to businesses throughout the city, and over the weekend they held a giveaway
