seven news reporter j.r. stone spoke with a family friend about how they are doing in a story you'll see only on seven. >> well, ama today i talked with not only a friend, but the mother who was driving the car in the east bay when all of this happened that mom was in the hospital today with her family, where her daughter is recovering from a major surgery. >> she says her kids were just relaxing and on their phones in the back seat when they were shot. at this is a bullet hole from one of the bay area's latest highway shootings, one along i-80, i-80 and san lorenzo , where that single shot went through the door and hit the two kids sitting in the back seat. the 12 year old girl is still in the hospital after a major surgery on her abdomen area. >> she's just trying to recover. i mean, we're talking about kids who are 12 and 13 years old, christina lee is a friend of the victims and their parents and is speaking on their behalf. >> the shooting happened on saturday night around 7 p.m. 8-80 for two children, an unknown age, that were shot in a

vehicle reported northbound 880. it's unclear who fired the shot or if the gunman was in a nearby vehicle. that person is still out there, christina said. the entire family was in the car and mom was driving. >> she said that she was driving along. um, you know, just a rainy night, fairly quiet, very smooth drive. and then all of a sudden it sounded like somebody popped a balloon. next to their ears and her husband looked at her and said, what was that? >> the family driving along this highway had just come from a party and had gift bags. so there was an assumption that something in the bag may have blown up. but then their son said gunshots shot. >> dad looked behind because he was passenger and realized that his son was bleeding and told his wife, pull over now. um, and the daughter just said, um, my oh. she said, oh, caltrans tells us that 200 highway cameras have been installed in the bay area on state route four, i-580, i-80

, and i-80. >> the idea is that these can help later identify vehicles involved in these shootings. caltrans though, says the cameras won't be fully operational until the spring. unacceptable to hercules mayor dan romero. >> what's the slow motion on this? i mean, if cal trans is doing this, then come on, you got the cameras installed. take some pride in and let's get them operational. >> christina says these type of shootings need to stop. she says this family is now hurting you never think it's going to happen to you. >> and especially a family like this. you know, they're just a good small, you know, god fearing christian family, actually. so for them, you know, they're of course they're questioning their trauma and they're traumatized. >> those with chp say there are no new updates on the investigation. the bullet that had to be removed from this young girl has been turned over as evidence. a friend of the family has set up a go fund me

enough to award trump all of the state's delegates in the republican primary. >> now to the new developments with this giant tree in golden gate park. as you can see, it came crashing down onto cars. luckily, though, no one was badly hurt. crews were called out to the southern end of the park earlier, just a few blocks in from 19th avenue. arborists are still there trying to get the rest of the tree out of the way. abc seven news reporter tim johns is checking on the work and the scary moments coming out of nowhere. tim. >> yeah. um and now the entirety of 19th avenue was initially closed after the tree came down. however san francisco fire officials announcing just about an hour ago that they have reopened all lanes once again and traffic is flowing. the giant tree came down around 354 this afternoon, and there were a total of five cars that were damaged and stuck under that tree. firefighters say 11 people were rescued from inside those vehicles, including some children. two of the 11 people had to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. one family inside one of those cars was on

their way to san jose this afternoon when the tree came down. they described the terrifying moment we saw the tree just it was slow motion and it literally just came down on our on our roof. >> seriously, are we dead? um, but that was the more terrifying. >> and then i looked around my kids, making sure there was no blood or glass or anything, impounding them. >> the san francisco fire department says it's still working alongside the city's recreation and park departments arborist to finish removing what's left of that tree. as of now, there is still no word on when that work might be done in the newsroom. tim johnson, abc seven news okay, tim, thank you. >> there's new information coming out tonight about just who was on board that plane that went down in the ocean off the coast of half moon bay. >> crews say they have found a woman's body along with the wreckage. the pieces of the aircraft were finally found after a long search last night in ross's cove of moss beach, not far from the half moon bay airport. tonight. >> abc seven news reporter lauren martinez is finding new clues about how this plane might

have come down. >> the wreckage of a propeller plane showing just how catastrophic sunday night's crash was. the ntsb is investigating why this plane carrying two people on board crashed just off the half moon bay coast on monday. sky seven captured part of the plane that was upside down. the san mateo county sheriff's office said that a woman's body was found in the water near the crash site during a search for victims. >> i feel so bad for the families. i could just imagine how i would feel. >> sagan was a commercial air pilot out of sfo for more than 40 years. registration for the aircraft involved in this crash shows it was a single engine. kozy mach four, which can be amateur built. it's unclear if the people on board the plane were the registered owners. >> the owner the builder is responsible for the for the construction of the aircraft and the maintenance of the aircraft and operates under a very loose set of rules. cost about $20,000

to build. plus the engine, etc. probably by the time it's done about $30,000. it holds four people. it was about 200 miles an hour. >> the sheriff's office says that the plane took off from the east bay. sagan said investigators will be looking at weather conditions. the aircraft and air traffic control recordings like this one. >> air traffic experimental 656 tango echo is on a approximately two mile final for only three. there >> among the questions was there ever a mayday call? >> it could mean that whatever happened happened in a hurry. and what happens in that sort of case is, um, the pilot sometimes won't have time to make a mayday call. >> on monday, the coast guard suspended search efforts after crews looked around 28mi■!s for nearly six hours by helicopter and boat. >> it's really a tragedy. and i mean, that's very cliche, but there are a lot of feelings there in the south bay. >> lauren martinez abc seven

rex huberman is expected to face a fourth murder charge. he's accused of killing 25 year old marine brenner barnes of new york. she disappeared back in 2007. her remains were found in 2010, washed up on now infamous gilgo beach. huberman is already facing charges for allegedly killing three other women, also, all found on that long island beach. investigators say they were able to charge huberman with the fourth death after collecting dna evidence. there's a lot of evidence we had, but they weren't ready to charge, so now we're six months into it. >> a long time for investigators to work at. and apparently they forwarded a forwarded the case. so they're going forward tuesday morning. >> fuhrman has pleaded not guilty to the existing three murder charges. >> a bay area man is among the four victims of a deadly hot air

balloon crash yesterday in arizona. he's been identified as 24 year old atahan chilcote of cupertino, on board the hot air balloon where eight skydivers, four passengers and a pilot, the skydivers successfully exited shortly before any apparent issues with the balloon. there's only one survivor from the crash , a 23 year old woman who was in critical condition when the cause of that crash is under investigation. >> communities across the bay area honored the life of civil rights leader, doctor martin luther king junior. thousands marched across the lefty o'doul bridge in san francisco as part of a symbolic route. it's reminiscent of the bloody sunday march of 1965, when supporters were beaten by police as they crossed the edmund pettus bridge in selma, alabama. at the beginning of a 54 mile trek to montgomery. the message of unity and solidarity was on full display today. >> it's overwhelming and it's so great to see so many generations of people here, especially the young people, to understand that

state of emergency. and can we believe that video of that fellow in nashville, tennessee? yeah yeah, he might as well have been in buffalo. yeah >> goodness. >> cold arctic air plunged all the way down to the deep south. it was bringing snow to parts of arkansas, tennessee. and so we have nothing to worry about here. just a little rain. here's a look at what's happening on our satellite radar composite image. we have an approaching storm. it's going to be a light one, but clouds are moving into the bay area right now. though the wind is relatively calm with wind speeds under ten miles an hour just about everywhere, and it's a few degrees cooler in most locations than at this time last night. so let's take a look at what's happening right now. with the current temperatures 51 degrees in san francisco, oakland 4950 at hayward, mid to upper 40s at san jose, mateo and half moon bay. the temperature readings at this hour under so far mainly clear skies 41 degrees at santa rosa and napa and fairfield, 39 at petaluma. a little bit chilly there and low to mid 40s at concord and livermore. on we go to our forecast headlines increasing clouds tonight and

into the early morning hours tomorrow in the afternoon and evening hours, especially, we expect rain, which could be heavy at times. but generally this is a light storm and this weekend heavy rain is more likely. so we'll tell you more about that a little bit later. right now we're looking at the first of several incoming storms on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. this is a level one storm tomorrow afternoon, and evening. we expect lightrillionain and showers, but there will be some isolated downpours as well. the evening commute will certainly be impacted by this rainfall forecast. animation at 5 a.m. shows not much in the way of precipitation until about 9:00. we'll see the first showers moving to the north bay, then between 9 a.m. and about 1 p.m, we'll see the north bay showers expanding, pushing southward down past the golden gate and then into the afternoon and evening hours. we'll see a surge of rainfall that will be heavy at times. and of course, that will complicate the evening commute. uh- rainfall totals will only range between about a quarter of an inch and a third of an inch. so this is not a drenching storm, but it could be
