coach dejan milojevic, as you mentioned, the team had a private dinner last night in salt lake city. that's not all. that's just the way they do it. they were in an italian restaurant when coach deki, as he was known, suffered a heart attack. they gave him cpr. they got him to the hospital, but he passed away this morning at age 46. milojevic worked primarily with the warriors. big men as a developmental coach. really helped kevon looney a lot. always had a smile on his face and this is just a devastating situation that the warriors will have to kind of come to grips with here in the next few days. ex warriors gm bob myers uh- fighting back tears tonight on nba countdown. >> it hurts that he's um. it's just hard because, um, when you when you work with these people um, especially for coaches. malika it you people say it, but you see them more than your family. you do you develop a closeness. um and it's just hard

because he was this bigger than life person, and he he would light up a room, and i just it's such a loss because he's gone and, um, i just feel so bad for his children and his wife and the people that work with him because. and know him and knew him. um he left a he left a huge mark on everybody that he crossed paths with, including me . >> coach deki again, age 46. he was with the warriors for three years, was a star playing in serbia and then coaching a number of serbian stars. the one thing i'll say, just in closing here, is everybody that i contacted today. either you know, via phone, text, whatever. everybody said he had the greatest smile. he brought so much joy to us all the time. and unfortunately, that smile is gone, guys.

has that tropical moisture tab and it is moving in our direction. when it gets here, it is going to dump heavy rain at times across the bay area. out ahead of the storm. spotty light showers begin friday morning. the main event is friday afternoon as pockets of moderate to heavy rain come in going into the evening hours. it is a level one. as i mentioned on our exclusive abc seven news storm impact scale. so friday afternoon evening rain will be heavy at times. gusts up to 40 miles an hour, slick roads and poor visibility is what we're expecting. this is just one of several storms headed our way. as a matter of fact, the accuweather seven day forecast only has one day without a storm impact scale. i'll be back with a closer look at the timeline and how this may play into your weekend plans. coming right up, ama. all right, look forward to checking back with you. >> thank you. sandhya governor newsom has come out against a bill that would ban youth tackle football in california. the governor says he will veto the bill if it's approved by the legislature. the bill would

prohibit tackling for football players under age 12. medical studies have shown that repeated hits to the head can lead to behavioral problems and memory loss later in life. a plan to protest against the bill at the state capitol today turned into a victory celebration. some touted youth tackle football as critical for keeping kids out of trouble. >> while this legislation will push more people, especially black and brown youth, through the school to prison pipeline by taking away mentors, community, brotherhood and family, a five year old california law already mandates extra training for coaches and limits full contact practices for youth. >> new tonight, six high school students from santa rosa were arrested and accused of attempted murder. police shared some pictures of the evidence they found during the search of the suspects homes. it stems from an investigation into a stabbing last week, where the victim was attacked as he tried to ride away on a bicycle. police say they recovered a number of guns, knives and gang paraphernalia. one of the

suspects had a 3d printer. detectives believe was being used to make gun parts. all of the suspects are either current or former students at elsie allen high school. a student from montgomery high school in santa rosa was arrested for a heinous assault against a young girl targeted in a restroom. a group of four female students surrounded the 14 year old victim in the school bathroom. a police say she was punched and kicked in the head excessively, and the suspect ripped out a large amount of her hair before stealing her phone and leaving her there. other students reported the incident, and the girl was taken to the hospital. the suspected primary aggressor here also 14 years old, was later arrested at her home on robbery and assault charges. building a better bay area focuses on an effort to tackle a problem plaguing many cities. >> organized retail theft today, abc seven news reporter tara campbell tells you about a takedown of a theft ring believed to be responsible for thefts across the bay area. >> let's be really clear that we

are not talking about one off shoplifting incidents, attorney general rob bonta announcing charges wednesday against three suspects believed to be leading a retail theft ring across the greater bay area and beyond. these are, um, primary actors among the primary actors in in the planning and the preparing and the conduct involved. and so we think they're very important charges that we're bringing. >> the suspects are being charged with nearly 50 felony and ten misdemeanor counts, including leading organized retail theft, second degree burglary, grand theft and vandalism, often in the middle of the night, the suspect generally donned dark clothes, masks and gloves to break through security doors and security gates. >> twice, they stole atm machines, one from an open chevron gas station and one from a closed and smoke shop. >> 25 businesses hit between early september and november of

last year, targeting multiple jurisdictions including walnut creek and vallejo. the thefts resulting in more than $650,000 in losses to the stores, including at this louis vuitton in walnut creek, where suspects drove a stolen range rover into the store. grabbing nearly $250,000 in merchandise. >> in that case, there was easily a dozen suspects, potentially up to 15. and we know this because we responded within a minute of the alarm activation at louis vuitton. our officers were on scene as the suspects were fleeing walnut creek's police chief crediting technology like automated license plate recognition known as alpr, with helping to track down the suspect. it's using technology is very, um, you know, beneficial and investigations alpr or some of that technology you talked about and i'm fully supportive of it. and with communities across the bay area, most recently san francisco and oakland looking to implement these technologies,

the attorney general is weighing in. >> i am a generally supportive of, uh, technology. we as a to assist law enforcement when balanced appropriately with privacy. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. >> an update now on a story. the abc seven news i-team has been following since december. a richmond pastor accused of sexual abuse and kidnaping entered a not guilty plea today in contra costa county court. this is video from a previous appearance by 53 year-old victor hernan pineda. he remains in jail and his next hearing is set for march. hernandez pineda faces 16 charges and investigators say there are at least four victims. at least one from his congregation, in a trial on state charges is expected to start march first. for the man accused of attacking paul pelosi. david depape was in court today and waived his right to a speedy trial. a jury last november convicted to pap on federal charges for breaking

into the pelosi's san francisco home and bludgeoning former house speaker nancy pelosi's husband with a hammer. depape faces up to 50 years in prison in that case, there's been a postponement in his state case, so his lawyers can review transcripts from the earlier trial drama in a manhattan courtroom today with writer e jean carroll taking the stand in her defamation case against donald trump. >> abc news reporter aaron katersky explains why the judge warned trump he might be removed from the courtroom tonight. >> fireworks on the court donald trump face to face with e jean carroll, a jury has already found him liable for sexually assaulting her in a dressing room at bergdorf goodman in the 1990s and then defaming her. carroll is now suing trump a second time, saying he continues to badmouth her. carroll testified, i'm here because donald trump assaulted me. and when i wrote about it, he lied and he shattered my reputation, she told the jury. i've paid just about as dearly as is possible to pay her attorneys

said trump unleashed his followers to go after carroll, showing the court a series of violent and threatening messages she's received, including one saying i hope someone really does attack, rape and murder you. carroll says she now lives on hyper alert with a pit bull patrolling her house and a gun by her bed. as carroll testified , trump could be heard muttering, it really is a con job, though. again, he has already been found liable for assaulting and defaming carroll and ordered to pay damages. judge lewis kaplan warning him to be quiet. mr. trump, i hope i don't have to consider excluding you from the trial. trump throwing up his arms. i would love it. i would love it, the judge responding. i know you would because you can't control yourself tonight, trump, still claiming he doesn't know carroll even though her attorneys showed this picture of trump and carroll greeting each other in 1987. this is a person i have no idea until this happened. >> obviously, i have no idea who she was, and nor could i care less. >> the jury will now decide how much more trump owes carroll for

there were two people on the plane. a woman's body was recovered on monday near the crash site. she was identified as 27 year old emma pearl wilmer skiles. the san mateo county sheriff's office has said the plane took off from the east bay and tragically went down the effort to clean up a fuel spill in san rafael is expected to take until friday, police today say the eastbound left lane of fratus parkway near north gate drive, will be closed from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. tomorrow and friday as crews clean up the spill. a fuel truck overturned early yesterday morning and leaked out about 1300 gallons of gasoline. the driver was not hurt. >> today marks 30 years since one of the biggest earthquakes to ever hit california the northridge quake. it was a 6.7 magnitude disaster centered in the san fernando valley, 57 lives were lost. more than 8000 others suffered injuries, and much of the area sustained extensive structural damage. it caused the equivalent of $90 billion in damage in today's

temperature dropping to about. the mid 50s. i would take the poncho if i were you and be prepared for some wet weather on our storm impact scale for friday afternoon evening. it's a level one rain heavy at times. gusts up to 40 miles an hour. slick roads and poor visibility is what you're going to have to deal with. so here's a look at friday. hour by hour winds begin to peek. pick up out of the southeast 32 miles an hour half moon bay 29. there at point reyes, over 40 miles an hour. just above 40 miles an hour. friday night. so the strongest winds along the coast and over the higher terrain ahead of the storm, you'll see some spotty light showers friday morning, but the main event gets here friday afternoon at 3 p.m. you start to notice some pockets of moderate rain. it intensifies at 6 p.m. you're seeing some downpours. this continues at 7 p.m. and then late in the evening, the rain turns over to more showery activity and then showers continue as we head into saturday. and this pattern repeats the rest of your saturday before sunday, our next storm moves in, so through

friday night we're expecting anywhere from about a quarter of an inch to just over an inch for most areas. then you add the additional storms through tuesday night. you're looking at five inches in places like the santa cruz mountains, five inches or more in the north bay, and we are expecting anywhere from about an inch and a half to 3.5in for the rest of the bay area. so this is going to mean there is potential that excessive rain potential for causing problems. so that's something to keep in mind here in the bay area. we are highlighted in that marginal risk to slight risk of seeing that excessive rain, which means five inches plus shallow landslides are possible. certainly flooding as rapid rises on streams and creeks occur. our mainstem rivers right now are looking okay, but stay tuned in case things change. temperature in the morning. 30s and 40s. cloudy skies with some patchy fog tomorrow afternoon. mostly cloudy and your high temperatures will be in the 50s and the 60s. the accuweather seven day forecast. enjoy your

reporter stephanie sierra has been following the story since the beginning. >> new renderings from california forever give a glimpse of what this new city, spanning 18,000 acres in eastern solano county, would look like. aerials of neighborhoods, safe, slow streets, a downtown plaza with transit, family friendly parks and open space, and walkable main streets. >> it'll be smaller than vacaville, but smaller than vallejo, and about two thirds the size of fairfield. >> ceo jan sramek explains, if passed by the voters, the new city expected to accommodate tens of thousands of people, promises 15,000 new jobs that pay at least 125% of the county average weekly wage. he says some of these jobs would be in advanced manufacturing, renewable energy and construction. the plan also commits to investing in green spaces, clean energy and protecting travis air force base . >> we want it to be a partner that can make the base stronger. >> sramek says he's locating this new community seen here in

blue outside of travis noise and safety zones, which are colored in yellow on this map and nearly doubling the current security buffer around travis, which is colored in green. on this map, we are permitting solar farms in that area, but we have expressly given travis a veto and an approval on the technology to be used in those solar farms, those solar farms, if built, would supply enough clean power to power the equivalent of 1.5 million homes. sramek says. one of the largest stressors on travis is the cost of housing for military personnel. >> we would be building a community that provides affordable homes of all different types that particularly young families are having to. travis can't afford california forever launched a series of financial assistance programs to help families and students with affordability. >> this includes $400 million for down payment assistance and $70 million for college scholarships. >> we are proposing a connected network of complete neighborhoods. this would feature, as gabe has mentioned,

jobs, housing, retail, and all the services from barbershops and cafes to grocery stores, health care providers, workspaces and public parks all within 5 to 10 minute walk. >> according to this map, the orange area would be the neighborhood mixed use zone, where there would be a mix of townhomes and apartments from 3 to 6 stories. the pink area would be the downtown zone, the darkest purple is the industry and technology zone. the light purple would be a maker and manufacturing zone. >> the initiative commits to ten acres of open space per 1000 residents. but congressman john garamendi, who recently had a sit down meeting with sramek, isn't sold on the plans. >> but basically what they want to do is to extend the urban sprawl from the sunset district of san francisco all the way through solano county. come on guys, you're your plan doesn't work. and by the way, where's the water? so where is the water? >> we have enough water for our new community. >> california forever says it's currently undergoing a water

supply assessment and verification, both of these are regulated under state law and require us to prove that we have enough water for every home that we bring online for the next 30 or 40 years. >> this includes drought conditions. >> the bottom line is there's no no water. they have no real water plant. they don't have a bucket to hold water as far as transportation, the company says they plan on constructing a new double lane road off of highway 12. >> that would help divert traffic coming from i-80. >> those are rural roads. who's going to pay for that now, before any of this would move forward, it would have to pass the voters in november, the initiative needs roughly 14,000 signatures to get on the ballot, and in order to pass it needs just over 50% of the vote for the i-team. >> stephanie sierra, abc seven news a leak that's been spewing water onto a vallejo street for a month was finally repaired. >> today, a day after abc seven news reported on it. public

works crews patched up the four inch water pipe at indiana and marin streets. a vallejo water department representative says the delay was due to a shortage of staff and a large amount of reported leaks. some of those are more urgent since they involve 36 inch pipes. those are prioritized over smaller ones like this that, yes, they are a nuisance leak, but they are not creating any any damage to any any residents. >> no residents are out of water . >> abc seven news got another call from a viewer about a leak at another location. the water department says it will get to that one tomorrow. >> supporters of 78 people charged with blocking the bay bridge in november held a rally. today. the group is urging san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins to drop the charges filed against protesters who were demanding a cease fire in gaza. the protest blocked westbound traffic on the bridge for more than two hours. the da has filed numerous charges, including false imprisonment, unlawful public assembly and street obstruction. the punishment could be up to a year

in jail in some cases, these charges are an aberration, not just to the status quo, but also to this moment when we are standing against genocide, de da jenkins maintains. the protesters compromised public safety by blocking traffic on the bridge. and a story in san jose that is clearly very disturbing. a dog is now recovering after being shot through its snout. abc seven news south bay reporter zach fuentes shows you how the community is helping. this is marley, a ten month old german shepherd mix recovering from major injuries. >> the tough part of her journey started last week when san jose police were called near mckee road for sounds of gunshots and a dog yelping. that dog was marley had approached an individual, um, who had a pistol on him. >> she is extremely friendly, which makes this story all the much sadder. um came up with her tail wagging. he took the pistol , placed it against her snout,

and fired a single bullet. >> the injuries were devastating . >> cutting penetrated through her snout, out her hard palate, down through her mandible, shattered her mandible. the bullet then continued its trajectory and, uh, hit one of the digits on her front feet and shattered one of her toes. >> doctor elizabeth cater is medical director at san jose animal care and services. she said police brought marley straight to their facility. they were able to stabilize her, but the damage done to her jaw was beyond the type of surgery they could do. >> we reached out to uc davis, um, spoke with their dentistry department at um, put her story out, and the feedback from the community has been heart warming. amazing. the special surgery cost $8,000. >> the community stepped up with donations to cover it completely . marley's recovery, though, is still ongoing and at this time during this interview is currently getting a ct scan, which is a 360 degree sort of x ray, so they'll be able to really assess what the damage was done in the nasal turbinates. thanks to the widespread support, the animal

also happening tomorrow. eucalyptus trees lining highway 92 are proactively being cut down in san mateo county. caltrans crews are working to cut down 12 trees, causing slowdowns and lane closures near the crystal springs reservoir. the work started today. eucalyptus trees are not native to california and create maintenance challenges. caltrans says some trees pose a significant risk to our roads. >> the tree is very heavy, top heavy, and their root system is shallow, so it doesn't come to a surprise. uh- to many arborists, when you hear of a eucalyptus failure, drivers are asked to plan for delays, with lane closures in effect from 630 in the morning through 3 p.m. every day through friday. >> all this to prevent the same scary incident in san francisco's golden gate park, where a huge eucalyptus tree uprooted and toppled onto traffic a couple of days ago, damaging five occupied cars as another round of bitter cold is gripping the nation. >> winter warnings are putting millions on high alert. abc news

streams and creeks, where you could see some flooding along with shallow landslides. when you look at the statewide rainfall projection, this is taking you through tuesday night. you're looking at some areas across across parts of northern california in that six plus inch category three. here in the bay area, we are going to see the potential for five, six plus inches of rain in our coastal hills and parts of the north bay. something to be watching out for now. snow levels are going to be very high in the sierra between 7500ft and then lowering to 6000. so by tuesday night we're not looking at a lot of snow. donner 20in, kirkwood 17in. certainly could use the snow. sierra snow pack stays statewide is at 53% of average. and here's a look at live doppler seven. a couple of clouds coming through. there is some fog and it is dense in santa rosa. quarter mile visibility. something you'll need to watch out for on our storm impact scale for friday afternoon evening rain will be heavy at times with this level. one storm gusts to 40 miles an hour. poor visibility and slick
