life person, and he he would light up a room, and i just. it's such a loss because he's gone. >> in his official statement, the warriors head coach steve kerr, said, we are absolutely devastated by dan's sudden passing. in addition to being a terrific basketball coach, dan was one of the most positive and beautiful human beings i have ever known. coach dickey leaves behind a wife and two children. >> now this heart attack coming when he was just 46 years of age. tonight, we wanted to hear more from cardiologists to get some advice. when it comes to your heart health. it's tonight's abc seven news deep dive at 11. and to get the full perspective on the issues that matter to you, we do this. abc seven news reporter j.r. stone is here in the studio with more guidance from those doctors. j.r >> well, first of all, dan, i think it's important to note that doctors say even when people do all of the right things, a heart attack can happen. with that said, you can reduce your heart attack risk greatly in light of the heart

attack that led to golden state warriors assistant coach deion milojevic's death at the age of 46, we talk with two leading cardiologists on what you should look for. doctor laila hagegard of ucsf and doctor david marin of stanford. >> by the way, we live makes us prone to having heart disease. and i mean the types of diet that is that are typical among americans not getting enough exercise. doctor hagegard stressed what is called life's essential eight when it comes to heart health for not just men, but women as well. >> seeing that heart disease is the number one killer among all people in the u.s, often developing later in females, good diet, good exercise, quitting nicotine or cigaret. >> use good blood pressure, good cholesterol, blood sugar levels and weight. sleep is the final of those essential eight for

your heart having good sleep. and so that's something that in the past couple of years, we've recognized more and more is that having a good 7 to 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep is really important for heart health. heart health. >> rather, doctor marin says that some of the facts about heart attacks are concerning about half of the people who die suddenly from a heart attack or a cardiac arrest never had a symptom before. so it's one of the reasons that he recommends a test for some to see if you have calcified plaques in the arteries to your heart and in my opinion, over the age of 40, get a coronary calcium scan to find out if you've got this disease brewing inside your arteries. going on to say that test is even more important for those with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease.

hamas? there should be, and i have called for an extended humanitarian pause to enable the release of hostages and to enable relief to get to 2 million palestinians that are suffering horribly. former saratoga city council member and mechanical engineer rishi kumar says not many countries have endured the extreme violence to the extent that israel has, and it's time for israel to enjoy peace and security within their own borders and this is absolutely non-negotiable. >> at the same time, we must work to build an economically viable and peaceful state for the palestinian people. >> the second question to candidates how would they address bipartisanship? politics in washington? santa clara county supervisor joe simitian s approach is finding common ground. >> when i was pursuing renewable energy, i had republican colleagues who weren't all that engaged on climate change or air

quality. but when i talked about the economic development benefits of renewable energy in their districts, they were their candidates also answered questions from the audience. >> how should congress address anti semitism on educational campuses? palo alto city council member and former stanford dean julie lythcott-haims said she knows how to work with young people. >> the antidote to speech we don't like is actually more speech. we have to get better at teaching our young people how to have these difficult dialogs and be their role models. thank you. thank you. >> assembly member evan lowe talked about prosecuting hate crimes. >> so what we need to do is implement that. number one is fully funding our state institutions to allow for greater staff to expedite these proceedings. unsubstantiated cases. number two, we need to also strengthen our hate crime laws. >> the jcrc invited candidates with at least 20 public endorsements and a minimum amount of donations made to their campaign in palo alto. i'm lauren martinez, abc seven news.

all right, let's get to our weather. >> and that long stretch of incoming rain. boy >> several days. abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is staying on top of these storms. sandy >> yeah, and dan and ama, they are all lined up in the pacific. the parade of storms. take a look at live doppler seven. they'll be coming in here one after another. the first one arriving on friday. in the afternoon and evening. it's a level one, as you can see here. and i do want to show you what is going to happen with this. we're going to have the showers out ahead of the storm. just very spotty and light friday morning. but then the rainfall intensifies as we head into the afternoon and the evening hours. it will be heavy at times. those downpours on that level one storm will mean gusts up to 40 miles an hour. accompanying the heavy rain, slick roads and poor visibility. even stronger storm for the weekend brings storm concerns. high likelihood of flooding on streams, creeks, roadways, trees down is a like good likelihood. power outages is in the medium category in

shallow landslides are possible as the excessive rain potential for parts of the bay area going up sunday and monday. we are talking about 5 to 6in of rain or higher, especially for the hills. i'll be back with a full look at the timeline coming right up ama. >> all right. thank you sandhya. tonight in the east bay calls for improved road safety. so no other families have to experience tragedy. the rallying cry came at a vigil for a woman hit and killed by two cars last week in oakland at a known, dangerous intersection. abc seven news reporter tim johns was there, and has more on her legacy among family members and safety advocates. this move, my mountain and give me the strength to climb. >> i'm songs of pain and gestures of comfort. >> wednesday night in oakland, oh, miss her at 24th street and san pablo avenue, dozens gathered to remember 59 year olds kim barranco. barranco, who went by the nickname ladybug,

was killed last week at this intersection after being hit by two cars while she was crossing the street. >> i thought she'd be burying me and not the other way that not be burying her. >> ladybugs, mom, sharon tells me the pain has been unbearable. she talked to us at serenity house in oakland, nonprofit, where ladybug used to volunteer. sharon says while the past week has been tough, the outpouring from those ladybug helped has touched her. >> a sweet and loving person and a lot of fun to be with and just lively. she was full of life. >> ladybugs. death isn't an isolated incident, though. every year dozens of people are hit and killed by cars. here in oakland. it's a problem. city officials say they're determined to fix. that includes oakland city council member carol fife. fife says in addition to the immediate action, she'll be pushing to install barriers on the street to slow traffic down. she also supports a longer time fix for especially dangerous roads like this one.

>> there's a project in the pipeline right now that's going to not only beautify, but make the streets a lot safer than they are. >> oakland leaders say most of these traffic related deaths are avoidable tragedies. they also point to equity factors at play, saying that most of them occur in disadvantaged neighborhoods and disproportionately impact people of color. >> there's been a lack of investment in infrastructure in in some of these marginalized communities, which impact black and brown communities. the oakland police department has released photos of a vehicle they say is connected with ladybugs death. >> they're asking for the public's help in identifying the driver, who they claim may be unaware they hit someone. as for ladybugs family, they're just looking for closure. >> i just hope that they catch those people. that's uh- to have to hit somebody and keep going. that's pretty cool. >> in oakland, tim johnson, abc seven news. >> the princess of wales in the hospital. more on kate's surgery and recovery as king charles now

a water leak that's been spewing water in vallejo for a month was finally fixed. today, a day after abc seven news reported on it. crews patched up the four inch water pipe today at indiana and marin streets. as we found out, the delay in service was due to a shortage of public works staff in a large number of reported leaks, the city says some of the work orders are more urgent, since they involve 36 inch pipes. those are prioritized over smaller ones like this that, yes, they are a nuisance leak, but they are not creating any damage to any any residents, no residents are out of water and we got another call from a viewer about a leak at another location. the water department says it will get to that one tomorrow, so and our final abc seven building a better bay area breakthrough is as simple as a little free coffee. >> yeah, the san francisco bay ferry is now offering it up every day on weekday trips to help fundraise for local food banks. the coffee will be available in the morning until they're out for the day. you're

the evening going into monday is when the heavier rain is going to come in a live view right now from sutro tower, downtown san francisco, all is calm. it's going to look different come friday and into the weekend and into early next week. live doppler seven. right now a very quiet picture, but the one thing that you'll need to watch out for is areas of dense fog, visibility right now in napa, down to a quarter mile, three quarters of a mile in santa rosa. so give yourself that extra time for the morning commute. you will need it. numbers right now in the 40s and the 50s. a live view from san jose camera tonight. tomorrow look for morning fog. mostly cloudy skies for the rest of the day. a level one system arrives friday. you will have brief downpours at times, gusty winds, and then sunday into monday is when that stronger storm comes in. but don't you worry because for the niners game when they host the packers at kickoff will be in between storms. so there will be showers around. i'm not going to sugarcoat it. 58 degrees breezy with showers in the mid 50s at fourth quarter as

they host the packers. so be prepared with your raincoats if you are going to be lucky enough to go to the game. level one storm for friday afternoon evening rain heavy at times. gusts up to 40 miles an hour. slick roads and poor visibility as we go. hour by hour, the winds will be picking up out of the southeast over 30 miles an hour friday morning and then getting stronger by evening. about 4041 miles an hour along the coastline. spotty showers in the morning on friday, the main event arrives in the afternoon, with those downpours as we head towards the evening. still going to be seeing some heavy rain at times and this really continues through the night before. this tapers into more scattered showers going into saturday. now rainfall through friday night. most of you will be under an inch of rain, but then you add all the other storms and through tuesday you are looking at anywhere from about one and a half to about 3.5in of rain. wetter spots looking at 4 to 6in of rain. and that means there is

the warriors called him coach dickey came from serbia three years ago. the team and other staff members. they were at a restaurant in salt lake city last night when milojevic suffered a heart attack. they did cpr, but coach dickey passed away this morning at age 46. the game with the jazz scheduled for tonight was postponed. the team flew home this evening. they're slated to host dallas on friday. former warriors gm bob myers was fighting back tears tonight on espn. >> these things happen. you can't process them. but i've talked to some people with the warriors and said, um, he it's hard right now. it's really hard. and that i know they canceled the game. there was no way, uh, they could have played that game. yeah um, and it's just, uh, it's awful. and um, we're all worse off that he's not going to be here.
