just about all of our cameras in the bay area were wet at some point tonight. and guess what? there was a lot more on the way. good evening. i'm ama daetz the first of several storms rolled through tonight and we are far from done. this was a one on our exclusive storm impact scale, so let's get to meteorologist sandhya patel and the weekend going to be a total washout. sandhya well. >> ama no, but there will be some significantrillionain this upcoming weekend, so let's get

right to live doppler seven right now. and we do have some rain falling in the north bay. it is light. it's not very heavy right around fairfax woodacre street level radar into the east bay, kensington, albany, berkeley, cedar street. yes, it is a little bit wet out there. it has been a rainy night and in the santa cruz mountains we are seeing light to moderate rain falling. at this hour. it is a level one. the front has pushed in area of low pressure is still off the coast, so we have another phase of this storm to go and as we go, hour by hour here you will notice tomorrow morning there are some scattered showers around around 930 in the morning. not everyone is seeing rain during the morning hours, but the afternoon things do change as widespread rain develops and it picks up in intensity. the winds right now 33 mile an hour. gusts on mount diablo 32. a hawkeye. it's a level one overnight tonight, so it's a light system. some rain with brief downpours, gusty in the hills. slight chance of thunder as we take a look at our rain chances pretty much through wednesday, the rain chances are

elevated and some of the concerns with this stormy pattern is tonight through wednesday. multiple storms coming through with the heavy rain at times, gusty winds, possibility of downed trees and power outages, and certainly the potential is there for flooding on roads, creeks, streams and shallow landslides. look at the rainfall projection through wednesday. coastal hills are looking at 5 to 8in, 3 to 5in in the north bay, and the rest of the bay area, one and a half to three inches ama. i'm going to be back with a look at the 40 niners forecast, plus how your weekend rain timeline is shaping up. coming up. >> all right, we're counting on it. thank you. sandhya the wet weather is also expected to have an impact on local businesses throughout the coming days as well. abc seven news reporter tim johns was in san francisco for us tonight talking to several establishments. he tells us many of them spent the day preparing for the coming storms, to the disappointment of many another wet weekend is in store for the bay area. >> preferably don't like it so much, especially when it's really flooding. and then, you know, it's kind of scary.

>> in san francisco friday night, it was umbrellas up for many people outside on the streets, inside the preparations were taking place in a different way. >> san franciscans tend to stay home during the rain, so it can be challenging for businesses. >> amy cleary works with the golden gate restaurant association. she says bad weather can put a massive strain on local eateries, especially on weekends. >> i think it also depends on where you are in the city. i think there are some neighborhoods downtown, places like that tend to be busier during the week. last year, many restaurants and other businesses were hit by severe flooding after a particularly stormy winter that was true at el taqueria, where they were forced to close for several days. >> the people don't come in for a long time, so when we reopen, the people don't know we are open and they don't know what. how long can i take to reopen again after last winter's heavy rain? >> a lot of businesses say they've learned a lot of new things. several of them tell us they're taking extra precautions to make sure they don't have

problems. this time around. that includes physical precautions like extra barriers and sandbags , but also intangible things like turning to the internet when foot traffic is down. >> since we do have like the online services, it kind of boosted that. >> and while most told us they weren't fans of the rain, others say when it happens, there's no better place to be. >> i love the rain. i like personally standing in the middle of the street while it's raining, but like pouring. not drizzling. >> in san francisco. tim johns abc seven news. in the north bay, firstrillionesponders and residents are preparing for a series of storms that threaten to bring flooding and landslides to the area. >> more than three inches of rain is expected to fall on the region over the next several days. p-g-and-e's says its staffing, utility crews and stocking up on transformers and power poles in case there are outages. many local residents spent the day preparing by filling sandbags and tarping roofs, hoping to keep the rain away. >> i am here to prevent shefs

behave as we believe. let us reject those that seek to divide us. let us show that life is sacred, that we are stronger, united, and that we all deserve to express ourselves without fear, ridicule, retribution, or division. end quote. in the east bay, two people were shot this afternoon on the platform of the pittsburgh center. bart station. shooting happened just before 4:00 and forced the station to be shut down for over four hours so police could gather evidence. bart says one victim is in critical condition and the other has a leg injury. no arrests have been made. a woman is being hailed a hero for helping prevent what fairfield police are calling an attempted kidnaping happened yesterday morning near kidder avenue and san rafael street. police say a 13 year old girl was walking alone on her way to school when a man approached in his car. they say he then tried to lure her to get in. the woman was in her own car and saw the exchange . police say she asked the girl if she knew the man. when the girl said no, she then offered to give her a ride to school.

once there, the student told a teacher what happened and police got involved and with the help of surveillance footage, police were able to find the suspect's car, which was empty. so they waited and several hours later the man returned and got in it. he was pulled over and arrested moments later. police say the man admitted to attempting to lure the girl into his car. new developments tonight, california state university has reached a tentative agreement with the teamsters union on a three year contract. it covers 1100 skilled trades employees across all but one of the csu's 23 campuses. the agreement must be ratified by union members before it goes to the csu board of trustees for approval. in march, the teamsters intend to call off a five day strike plan next week. more details are expected from both sides in the coming days. a vigil was held tonight at saint dominic's catholic church in san francisco ahead of tomorrow's walk for life west coast. it's expected to draw thousands of anti-abortion rights demonstrators to the city. if you're coming to san francisco,

so be prepared for the delays because of street closures, the march is supposed to start around 130 in the afternoon on market street, and end at civic center plaza. a counter protest is planned for embarcadero plaza , san francisco international airport is glowing in red and gold tonight for the 40 niners. the team will face the green bay packers in the playoffs tomorrow at levi's stadium. abc seven news south bay reporter lauren martinez went to a rally tonight in san jose that drew members of the faithful from all over. the faithful fans are celebrating the 40 niners faithful made tenors on friday. >> blanco urban in san jose hosted ticketmaster's fan rally on the eve of the playoff game. legendary 40 niners running back frank gore signed autographs. >> i'm still shaking right now. it's pretty crazy the way he just runs through defense is like a tank. i mean, that's why it's called frank the tank. the gold blooded cheer dance. and

going to the game, i'll see you there in san jose. lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> so much excitement that the a's donated some big bucks to nevada politicians after the approval of their ballpark, the state's legislature signed off on $380 million in taxpayer money to fund the stadium on the las vegas strip. the team seems to be saying thanks by paying out campaign contributions totaling $112,000, various amounts were sent to 45 lawmakers, some of which voted no on subsidizing the park and some who aren't even running for reelection, a dream come true for a young san jose sharks fan today, the once in a lifetime experience for a girl with a rare disease university of california system has set a record with its students. we're going to tell you what it is, as well as the growing trend when it comes to who's enrolling and a celebration at stanford as their legendary head coach ties the all time wins record. sports writer larry beil will

airport bound for lancaster, pennsylvania. around 245. conditions were snowy and wet, with poor visibility. minutes later, southern airways express flight 246 landed on the southbound lane lanes of the loudoun county parkway, much to the surprise of witness jesse labelle heard a loud noise thinking my car blew up or something. >> um, and you know, i look up and there's a plane 20ft above me. um, and lands 30ft in front of me. >> yeah, that'll get your attention. labelle jumped out of his vehicle, ran to the plane and helped passengers out. thankfully everyone was okay despite the plane landing between power lines, traffic

lights and woods. new developments with the controversial delta tunnel project. a new lawsuit filed today challenges the development after reports and experts said it would be destructive to the ecosystem. the tunnel intends to divert the sacramento river, but potentially at the cost of endangered fish, and the communities alongside it. more than a dozen environmental groups joined onto the suit. they were calling for the state to explore better options like water conservation and groundwater storage. the university of california announced this year, will be the largest undergraduate class ever for the uc system. nearly 300,000 students enrolled this year, and that number also includes 195,000. california, which is an all time high. there's a growing gender gap, with 27,000 more women enrolling than men. uc berkeley enrolled more than 25,000 students this year, compared to fewer than 20,000 just a decade ago. a new house in east oakland is opening its doors for local mothers and their children struggling with

homelessness. anna's house intends to create a safe community for mothers working to overcome trauma and a nurturing home for their kids. it's funded mostly from community donations $550,000 was raised in honor of a woman named anna flynn. she was a teen mother who lost her life after struggling with trauma and housing insecurity. >> think about how many families and how many people will come in and live in this home, and have that restorative process. yes, really accessing their strengths and their beauty and that saves the government, the system, the taxpayers. it saves the lives of the people we're serving. >> you can donate to the cause online through the bay area community services website. quite a wish came true today for a 12 year old girl living with a rare disorder that's had a big impact on her life. the girl is a huge san jose sharks fan, and today the team helped her live out her dream. abc seven news south bay reporter zach fuentes showed us what happened.

>> take a look at what's sure to be one of the most memorable days of 12 year old addison kypreos life. how much fun have you had today? >> lots of fun. i love, i've loved this day. this is probably one of the best days ever, though. >> addison and her family now live in wisconsin, their roots are in northern california. addison is not just a sharks fan, but possibly one of their biggest. she got the surreal opportunity to join them on the ice at their practice rink. i raced some of the guys and i obviously beat them, um, despite addison's energy and enthusiasm, she's been dealing with a devastating disorder. >> addison suffers from a rare skin disorder called epp. basically, like a few minutes outside on the wrong day can equal pain. that's equal to a second degree. like burn addison's disorder also led to stage five liver failure. >> the nonprofit shadowed jumpers helps families who are faced with rare sun disorders. they connected with the kypreos family as addison was going through liver treatments. >> and what we found was she, uh, her bedroom where she was relaxing in, got hit with sun all day. so what we did is we

renovated her basement to also act as a makeshift bedroom for her. but while we were doing that, we learned she was maybe the biggest sharks fan we've ever met. >> so shadow jumpers got in touch with the sharks foundation. who planned a fun filled two day event for addison starting friday. >> and we hear that there are young adults or youth out there dealing with chronic or critical illnesses, but they're big sharks fans and hockey brings them joy. we always want to step in and bridge that gap, not only does addison get to skate with the sharks, she got a custom hockey stick cut for her locker room tour and gets to see her first nhl game just some of the excitement on her packed itinerary. >> one of the biggest things she's taking away from the thrilling two day experience is gratitude. >> thank you and i appreciate everything in san jose. >> zach fuentes, abc seven news. >> an amazing rescue story tonight out of michigan, a man fell through the ice and was rescued by his dog. >> send your pup here. >> we'll see you come to me. >> okay, so that is michigan state police officer cameron

bennetts attempting to call the dog of a man who had just fallen through a frozen lake. now, after his rescue line came up short, officer bennetts quickly came up with an idea to help the man in distress get to safety. but first he'd need the help of a furry friend named ruby, not knowing if she would listen to me or not knowing if she would hear my verbal commands. >> i asked him and she perked up. so i knew at least she could hear me. at first i tried to see, you know, if she would just bite onto the rope, but she didn't want anything to do with that. she kind of just wanted to play and, well, ruby was able to get the rope to her owner. >> the man was pulled to safety. miraculously, he only suffered minor injuries after spending 16 minutes in that frigid, frigid water. uh, thankfully, it was a rescue we're talking about. okay, let's get to our weather. not quite that cold, but we have a lot of rain out there. sandy >> yeah, we do indeed, ama. at least we're not dealing with that kind of frigid weather, icy conditions, snow, like much of the country is here in the bay area. we have the rain now while right now it is beneficial, the

ground is able to absorb it. sunday night into monday could be a different story, as it may become problematic with significant rain coming right now. golden gate bridge is wet as you can see. still, some rain falling on live doppler seven. i'm going to take you down to the south bay where we're seeing the rainfall intensifying right around san jose. you will notice alum rock east julian street. we are seeing some heavier rain around story road east foothills as we head towards parts of the north bay. we're seeing some rain around angwin, silverado trail, pope valley near our radar site, calistoga seeing some steady rain and lighter rain from pinole into el sobrante across highway 80. as we look at the bigger picture here, area of low pressure off the coast pushing that front in. but that area of low pressure is going to be the secondary part of this system that's going to come through here for your saturday. so that's going to keep the wet weather going. how much rain has fallen so far? let's take a look. half an inch in santa rosa almost that in san rafael 6100 in ben lomond

picking up 1000/900 in oakland. san jose 400. concord 500. napa 2000/700 of an inch. this is just the start of what's to come. sunday. the thunderstorm risk goes up for much of california, which includes the bay area, and that risk remains in effect until sunday. monday morning. excuse me. so storm concerns for the weekend flooding a high likelihood. and i'll show you where trees down. also a high likelihood power outages, medium and shallow landslides, high temperatures. right now in the 40s and the 50s. this is a mild system. these storms that follow will also be a warm to mild systems. and that's why we're not expecting it to get very cold. but certainly we'll be raining at levi's stadium tomorrow night. it's a huge game. the playoffs. niners taking on the packers. and let me just put it to you this way. the niners have played in worse weather, so hopefully they'll be okay. rain breezy, 59 degrees at kickoff. fourth quarter. it's going to be a soggy night. take your poncho if you're going overnight, but going into tomorrow morning we're looking at wet breezy to

gusty conditions. stronger storms sunday monday downpours, thunder chance and the possibility of some damage from flooding to trees down. so as we look at tomorrow, excessive rain potential, it's slight to marginal. it's in the north bay. watch it expand to other parts of the bay area sunday and monday as that stronger storm comes in that risk means that there could be some flooding on the roadways, smaller streams and creeks. that's why a flood watch goes up sunday to monday as solano county for lake and mendocino counties. that's up tomorrow. so on our storm impact scale overnight, it's a one rain brief. downpour is gusty in the hills. slight chance of thunder tomorrow morning, 5 a.m. you see those showers? some breathers in between as well through noontime and then 4 p.m. here comes widespread rain. 5:00. when that game gets underway, it's going to be coming down. 11 p.m. still raining hard. and then we go over to scattered showers. so the rainfall through sunday morning will take you into that third of an inch to almost an inch ben loman to over an inch

of rain. by the time we head into wednesday, we're talking about inches of rain isolated higher totals in the coastal hills 5 to 8in winter storm warning for the sierra until 1 a.m. tuesday. looking at the highest snow totals above 7000ft. but the snow levels will be between 6 and 7000ft. heavy, wet snow 40s 50s. tomorrow morning. keep the umbrellas handy. tomorrow afternoon it's going to be a wet one. 50s and 60s. and here's your accuweather seven day forecast two tomorrow, sunday and monday. that's when our greatest chance of thunder enters the picture. and then a weaker system for tuesday night into wednesday. so it's definitely going to be cumulative effect. >> so many numbers. >> sandhya i know we still have several more storms to go. hopefully we get through it safely.

on wednesday and tonight we're postponed. we do expect to hear from the team on sunday. the future of sports illustrated magazine is in question tonight, after nearly all of the staff received layoff notices, the arena group, the company authorized to operate the magazine, had its license revoked by si's parent company, authentic brands group.
