now and just being patient right now, but it's hard in martinez. >> anser hassan abc seven news. >> now to an amazing rescue story out of michigan. a man fell through the ice and was rescued by his own dog. >> send your pup here. we'll see you come to me. >> now, you just heard a michigan state police officer trying to call the dog of a man who had just fallen through parts of a frozen lake after his rescue line came up short, the officer quickly came up with an idea to help get the man to safety. but first, he need the help of a furry friend named ruby. >> not knowing if she would listen to me or not knowing if she would hear my verbal commands. i asked him and she perked up so i knew at least she could hear me. at first i tried to see, you know, if she would just bite onto the rope, but she didn't want anything to do with that. she kind of just wanted to play and ruby was quick. >> she was able to get the rope to her owner. the man was pulled to safety. miraculously, he only suffered minor injuries after spending 16 minutes in the
9:18 am
frigid water, which is a dangerous amount of time. and kudos to ruby, an incredible rescue. ice fishing is very common in the midwest, he says. we've been talking. i spent some time up in the u.p. and, you know, it's common for them to bring heaters out. sometimes they'll have their dogs come out. i've seen that up solid. yeah, right. but very careful. you got to be right. >> not so much anymore. and we have those swings and temperatures from 20 degrees to 40, which is going to be happening on the east coast. also, the midwest. so while they're in the deep freeze now, next week, the forecast is different. so all that snow will be melting. but right now we're talking about a mild system bringing a mix of rain and snow to the sierra nevada. it is in the upper 30s. truckee and lake tahoe. and we've seen a steady stream of light to moderate rain move through the bay area this morning after that first system exited very early this morning about 2:00 this morning. there's a look at 8-80 where east of 8-80 vallejo. some moderate rain. you can see how widely scattered it is, and we'll have pockets of moderate rain from time to time. north of benicia.
9:19 am
right now, we take you to the south and east, where a fremont in the east bay union city has been getting some pockets of heavier rain. i've heard from some of you and it is also raining pretty good from two 8-80 woodside, portola valley, some wet weather and really hasn't stopped in the santa cruz mountains. it's been scattered light, but we'll continue to see the breaks through the early morning hours on sunday, and then as it picks up again late sunday into monday, that's when we're going to see the 1 to 2 inch, maybe three inch totals. but as for right now, almost three quarters of an inch in santa rosa, the civic center up in san rafael, 0.91 sfo, a third of an inch, a quarter of an inch. oakland and belmont, and seven hundredths in san jose. there's a look at the golden gate bridge, where it is cloudy right now. 56 san mateo and oakland as well as san francisco, 55 here with a half inch of rain on the way for santa cruz today and inch as we get into sunday and monday and temperatures all in the mid 50s. gusty southerly winds in the upper elevations. so wet and
9:20 am
breezy this morning with those gusty winds. and then we'll look for the rain tonight all throughout the game. and it will be widespread and light to moderate. then we get into the heavier system sunday monday a chance of a thunderstorm and this could bring a little bit of flooding for perhaps the creeks and streams in the north bay. that's saturated soil could bring down a few tree limbs, but overall we're not expecting a lot of problems with this. but look how the rain advances through the three 4:00 hour, and then we get widespread coverage right on through the overnight hours, and it gets a little heavier as we pass into saturday night and sunday. so the first slug of moisture, three quarters of an inch to an inch, and then we'll get into that inch and a half to an inch and three quarters sunday night, monday. the possibility of some thunderstorms. is this all winds down, but the snow will continue on and off with the rain and snow mix. so hopefully you get that foot as projected from donner to about 11in in kirkwood. and then looking at highs today with the scattered light rain becoming more widespread, upper 50s to near

60, that's a look at your morning on sunday with the rain ending a bit of a break until the downpours sunday night. chance of thunderstorms into monday and then that tuesday. rain is light. we're just talking. maybe a 10th to 2/10 and then we'll need the break right as we get into the end of the week. it does look drier so they are level two systems. we will have the rain continue for hours at a time, but those breaks are very key to make managing all that water. >> yeah. and speaking of breaks, no breaks really for the niners game. it's going to be going straight through. >> yeah it'll be pretty soggy all right. >> got to pack those ponchos. >> i know about it. yeah >> thanks, lisa.

9:49 am
showers in spots. but yesterday's system is behind us. we have another one this afternoon into the overnight hours. and then the final one sunday night into monday. scattered light rain in the north bay, taking you to fairfield, where it's been a little bit heavier the past 15 to 30 minutes or so. highway 12. so be careful out there. very slick roadways and as you take a look at the mid bay here, i certainly goes down to hayward where we've had some heavier pockets in the hills and then towards union city industrial boulevard and also down towards 880 here, just very wet and into the peninsula, the east bay, where i should say east palo alto and palo alto down through the santa cruz mountains, where they've picked up about a half inch of rain, maybe another inch and a half to come as we get towards monday. so really, the higher elevations, the coastal hills and the north bay picking up those perhaps two inch totals and more than that, probably around mount tam. 56, san francisco 58. in hayward,
9:50 am
there's a look at emeryville and you can see all the drops here from our exploratorium camera mid 50s out there, gusty upper elevation winds. santa clara right now kind of quiet you've picked up maybe a 10th of an inch of rain, but more to come, especially right in time for the game. so wet, breezy, gusty this morning. then we have our widespread afternoon evening overnight tonight. this is the second system. third system, the final one with the downpours. so perhaps thunderstorm activity. and that could lead to some flooding or trees down. but we have those breaks in between. this morning has been a break. sunday morning will be a break and then it ends by midday monday. here's a look at our high resolution model, which continues to gather the widespread rain first in the north bay. two 3:00 and then three 4:00 throughout the east bay and then just in time for the game for the south bay. and then it just keeps coming. it continues through the overnight hours through the early morning hours. so the rainfall potential with this right now through very early sunday is three quarters to about an inch of rain on top
9:51 am
of what we've had. and then into sunday night this takes us to nearly two inches in parts of the north bay, and you can see two inches down around ben lomond, maybe three quarters of an inch in the east bay. so a winter storm warning. upper 30s. it's been rain, but you go up above 7000ft. it's snow. and so that's why at the ski resorts we could pick up maybe a foot at donner, but half a foot around tahoe city. so highs today, scattered showers will become more widespread and moderate or so as we get through the six 7:00 hour. this is your sunrise forecast early sunday morning, so we still have the rain out there. then we get a bit of a break until we do it again with the thunderstorm activity. a slight possibility into monday. that's why we have three level twos, because there are three systems that are very quickly behind each other. then very light rain tuesday and perhaps on wednesday. stephanie. >> all right lisa, thank you. well, a record number of submissions this year at sundance film festival. george pennacchio is in utah with the
