in giving everyone a good soaking. this is just one of a series of storms that's headed our way. good evening and thanks for joining us, everybody. i'm dionne lim. we'll get to the weather and spencer in just a moment, but we start with a high drama tonight in the south bay as the 40 niners had to fight for their playoff lives. they rallied for a dramatic win against the packers and are now

just one win away from the super bowl. abc seven news sports chris alvarez joins us live from levi's stadium. love the footballs behind you. what a game. >> what a game deion. it was tonight. the 40 niners. you mentioned they had to fight for their playoff lives. did you know four niners head coach and the niners kyle shanahan. they were zero and 30 when entering the fourth quarter. down seven or more. they had never won. but they break that streak tonight. and they're now going back to the nfc championship for a third straight season. but they had to work for it tonight at a cold and rainy levi's stadium. as spencer will explain, it was wet down here in the south bay. the nfc's top seeded niners. they were outplayed most of the game, looked a little slow at times, but when they needed to have it, brock purdy on the last drive under two minutes in the fourth big nine yard scramble and then next play the stanford man christian mccaffrey, his second touchdown of the game, gave the 40 niners a 2421 lead with just over a minute to go. and the fans can smell it. and then soon

packers drive jordan love kind of throws one up and there's dre greenlaw diving interception his second of the game. niners win 2421. they'll host the lions bucks winner with the super bowl on the line next sunday here at levi's. marking their fourth nfc championship game in the last five years. and an emotional kyle use check. reflecting on the amazing journey losing the nfc championship. >> you want to snap your fingers and be there again, but you can't. there's so much that has to happen in between that last loss and getting back there again. um and to finally, finally be back there again like you just you don't take it for granted. you know how hard it is , and you know how much it means. so, like, i get emotional thinking about it, like we're back here and it's time to take care of business. your goal and your as a kid is to get to the nfl and win a super bowl. >> all right. that's been my goal ever since i was like five years old. you know, when i was six years old, i was playing

may have been a classic, but it was close. >> it was close. they played a good game, but you know, when the niners bang bang, we'll be back next week. >> it's probably the most stressed out i've been in a while to be honest. yeah but they made up for at the end in the end christian mccaffrey scored with a minute seven on the clock. >> the 40 niners trailed much of the second half, but as the saying goes, a win is a win. i thought it was wonderful. >> i mean it kept us at the edge of our seats. we were stressed. you know. >> did you ever doubt that? no i had to have faith till the end. >> and we won. >> so it was wonderful. and we were a season ticket holders. we were just faithful. for a second, i thought that the packers had us. >> but you know the niners, you know how we was going to come through baby nine again. >> it wasn't the crushing defeat many 40 niner faithful predicted. some fans point to the rain and the injury to deebo samuel. who are the key players today? uh christian mccaffrey, george kittle. >> people got hurt, but used a really good six three niners. i know a little bit better bang

bang there for a second. >> was was kind of like i think sluggish because they hadn't played in three weeks. but the defense should have been a little bit better because they should have been on top of it. san francisco will now host the nfc championship game against the winner of sunday's detroit first tampa bay. >> all right, whoever is coming here with this detroit, tampa bay, hey, we're going to be ready and of course, i'm believing nothing but a victory. but when they come here, it's going to be we're going to be the faithful. we're going to be loud. we're going to be proud and we're going to support these niners to victory. and let's go to the bowl, baby. >> at levi's stadium. anser hassan abc seven news. >> i can almost not hear myself after all of that screaming. spencer >> well, you can certainly understand the excitement, right? what a great finish to the game. >> yeah, i wish we could talk about a great finish to the storms, but not the case. >> maybe in about four days we can. okay, let's take a look at what's happening on this day or

this night. right now though, on live doppler seven, we have lots of widespread and mainly lightrillionainfall, but it's pretty steady and it's a spread across the entire bay area. it will get heavier later tonight. here's the looping image of the satellite and radar. you can see we have wave after wave or band after band of rain moving onshore. that pattern will continue into the overnight hours. so on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale, this is still a level two storm because there is still some heavier, steadier rain to arrive with heavy downpours at times gusty in the hills. slight chance of thunder starting the forecast animation at midnight. you can see that between midnight and about 4 a.m, we expect to get some pretty steady rain with some pockets of really drenching downpours before it starts to ease up a bit in the early morning hours, followed by yet another period of heavy rain developing late tomorrow into tomorrow night. so we've got two level two storms coming our way and so through wednesday we expect multiple storms moving through the bay area. heavy rain at times, gusty winds possible downed trees and isolated power outages and flooding on roads,

creeks and streams. chance of shallow landslides. i'll give you a look at the complete accuweather seven day forecast in a few minutes. dion. all right, sounds good. >> spencer. thank you. now san francisco got drenched which made for a challenging saturday for those who were out and about . some did try their best to stay dry. and there is some important advice for those who are going to be on the roads. here's abc seven news reporter tara campbell in the streets of san francisco. >> so getting soaked saturday umbrellas up and hoodies on the 40 niners fans taking cover. we want to show support for the bar for the niners. >> i'm surprised people are actually out here. i thought it was just gonna be us. >> none of these fans letting the rain put a damper on the day. it's a different vibe, right? >> we want to watch the game with everybody else. so just watching a game by ourselves at home. so i was like, i'm going to come out and i'm gonna see what it's all about. and i decided to stick with it. >> the san francisco fire department asking drivers to be aware of the wet roads. >> we asked people to slow down

a little bit. uh take extra time to be able to get to where they're going. we also asked the riders and people walking to where reflective clothing, something with high visibility, and they say it's a good idea to be a good neighbor. well, i think we've seen a lot of flooding in and around the neighborhoods. and, uh, the sf water department has a program called adopt a drain, where someone in their neighborhood can be aware of the storm drain. and it getting clogged up with leaves or other miscellaneous items that may be in street. and what that does is it prevents water from flooding the streets. >> it's a reality this small business owner knows all too well. her salon was flooded during last year's storms, and what ended up happening is all the gutters were packed with stuff inside. >> so within minutes the flooding just happened. >> her business has been at this mission district location for nearly 14 years, and she knows how quickly the area can flood.

>> this is the valley here, so it everything it comes down this way and over on folsom it's always, always flooded. >> the public works department putting up these barricades in preparation for the downpour. people stacking sandbags to protect their homes and businesses, hoping for the best. >> god, i hope it doesn't flood you know, tara campbell, abc seven news. >> meantime, first responders are standing by across the north bay ready for possible flooding and landslides there. this storm is expected to bring up to five inches of rain in some locations. as we continue our coverage. now with abc seven news reporter cornell bernard, a new storm moved into the bay area saturday, with the goal of getting everyone wet. >> the heavy rain giving marin county a super soaking. but for some drivers, it was time for a pit stop. i'm getting new windshield wipers. kristen artigiani wasn't the only driver looking for help at o'reilly auto parts in petaluma, where old wipers bite the dust and new

ones are installed by employee garrett mirza. >> this is just my first set of up today, but i've already done like tens over the past, you know, just a couple of weeks. >> super awesome. i didn't know how to do it, so he offered to do it for me and i said thank you. >> so now what? now you're ready. >> now i'm ready to go drive around in the rain in santa cruz, the chp posting on x about this toppled 50 foot tree blocking aptos street at soquel drive. >> drive was asked to find an alternative route, would ask people to slow down uh- stay home if you have to. >> um, don't go out unless it's absolutely essential. >> sonoma county firefighters are watching the hills for possible landslides like this one from last winter on river road in guerneville. they're also keeping a close eye on the russian river, which is well below flood stage. >> we've got a little ways to go, but if the rains continue or if they start to increase and get a little heavier, which we're expected, then that's definitely going to be something that we're going to be keeping an eye on. we do have a swift water team ready to deploy at

any moment. we have all of our equipment here ready and staged in mill valley. >> umbrellas were up across town. we found activist artist white trying to raise awareness about teen bullying in schools, the rain not dampening her message a little bit more of a passion driven thing. >> so it's no problem to me. i do not mind standing out here for the kids. >> the message to everyone this weekend just everybody, please stay safe and stay dry. yeah, and captain jones also reminding us that water and cars don't mix. if you approach a flooded street, be safe and turn around in san rafael. bernard abc seven news happening now on the roads to lake tahoe. >> if you're taking interstate 80, chains are required east from placer county on all vehicles, though four wheel drives with snow tires are excluded. the same chain required are in place for those of you taking highway 50 from el dorado county on. and this is a live look from our camera

he says at about 445 this afternoon, the man's vehicle hit several objects, including a metal pole, before landing on its roof on knave drive. the cause of the crash is still under investigation, and it is unknown if the weather played a role. a campaign to rally support for the proposition b ballot initiative launched today in san francisco. prop b is called b safer. the bill would fund full police staffing and recruitment for 5 to 10 years, set a minimum officer staffing level, and allow sfpd to request its own budget changes. prop b is backed by a coalition of city and community leaders who say it could improve public safety and financial transparency. >> prop b creates a recruitment fund. it creates the mandate and it creates the pathway to bring back the minimum number of officers we need to have in san

francisco. >> prop b will be on the ballot on march 5th. new details tonight on the deadly avalanche at palisades tahoe ski resort. the san francisco chronicle reports the resort did not fire off any explosives that day. on the run. the chronicle also learned there wasn't one, but actually two avalanches that trapped skiers on the mountain that morning. resort officials say they set off charges a day prior to the avalanche, but typically don't set them off after light snowfall on the peninsula. the second of the four victims on board the plane that crashed near half moon bay has been identified. a bay area family confirmed to the chronicle that their 27 year old son, isaac zimmerman of san francisco, has died. his partner, emma pearl wilmer shields, and two other people were on board when the plane crashed last sunday. federal investigators say the small plane was a home built plane. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. well, the wet weather was not enough to

stop people on both sides of the abortion issue from gathering on the streets of san francisco, anti-abortion activists descended on the city for the 20th annual walk for life. the march closed down market street for much of the day. busses filled with participants came from hundreds of miles away. we wanted to come and show our support and show the world that, um, abortion is it's murder makes your heart feel good to stand up and show that you are proud to be pro-life. meanwhile, pro-abortion rights groups held a counter-demonstration near the main library. protesters there called for reproductive justice in the wake of overturning roe v wade. >> i think that actual roe was turned like so many people don't have access to abortion. and even though we might feel safe in this city, we might feel safe in this state. i think it's really important that we show up, especially when there's such a big force across the street. >> the supreme court has two

upcoming cases on abortion this terme in the south bay. the mayor of san jose is calling for a new city policy to prevent encampments from returning to downtown. public spaces last fall, the city used $2 million to remove to move unhoused residents from the guadalupe river trail into interim housing. since then, some camps have returned. mayor mehan wants to create no return zones and limit where those encampments can be. he says the move would protect public areas. >> if you were here prior to that cleanup effort, you can see why people stopped using the trail. this is a public trail here along the river that should be accessible to everyone. >> some homeless advocates are pushing back on that proposal, calling it cruel. the city council's rules committee will take this up on this coming wednesday. the effort to recall oakland mayor shengtao that is moving toward a second phase. organizers say they'll now begin

the process of publishing a notice of intent and gathering a petition. the group eventually hopes to collect 25,000 signatures, or about 10% of oakland's registered voters, as leaders of the recall effort say tao is responsible for high crime in the city. tao though, has not responded to their recall effort, and the deadline for her to do so was yesterday. all right, once again, back to the weather and surprisingly, it's been a little on and off tonight. >> it has. you're right about that. you know, we had light rain early in the evening. then near the end of the niners game we had the heavy downpours and now the downpours have eased up a bit. but there are more on the way. here's a look at live doppler seven. you can see that it's wet across the entire region right now, but it's mainly light rainfall and we don't have any identifiable pockets of really heavy rain at the moment, but we expect to have some shortly after midnight. here's a look at the satellite radar composite image and you can see we're getting band after band of rain moving onshore. and some of those bands will contain some downpours, but the wind is relatively calm. we

will occasionally experience some gusts when the rain gets heavier, but right now calm winds and temperature readings right now mainly in the mid 50s, san francisco, oakland, hayward, san jose, san mateo, half moon bay, all in the 54 to 56 degree range. other readings at this hour as we look along the bay bridge from emeryville, 52 at santa rosa, 50 at petaluma. so a little bit cooler by just a few degrees up in the north bay. napa 53, fairfield 53. concord 55. and these are our forecast headlines. overnight rain and breezy to gusty at times. and a stronger storm moves in late tomorrow into monday with downpours. chance of some thunder. so much of much like what we've had tonight and then possible impact of these storms. localized flooding on rivers, streams and creeks. now on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. this is still a level two storm because we still expect some heavy impacts overnight. widespread rainfall, gusty in the hills, slight chance of thunder and here's the forecast animation starting at midnight.

notice between midnight and about 4 a.m. is when we expect the heaviest rainfall to push through the area, and it will reach all parts of the bay area before it starts to taper off a little bit. as we approach sunrise tomorrow morning. although we may not see the sunrise because of the clouds, and then later in the day, tomorrow in the afternoon and into the evening hours, we expect another wave of really heavy, widespread rain to pound the bay area tomorrow night. so that will also be a level two storm. and it was as we look at the prediction for rainfall totals down in the south bay on the peninsula, much of the east bay, we expect mainly under 2/10 of an inch. that is between now and about 5 p.m. tomorrow, but up in the north bay, which will get some of the heavier rain earlier tomorrow, we expect over an inch in many locations and coastal flood advisory will be in effect until 11 a.m. monday for the bay shoreline for the north bay shoreline and for a lot of the inland valleys of the north bay because of the minor, because of the accumulation of water in low lying areas, a

winter storm watch is now in effect for much of the sierra for the winter storm warning has been canceled, but it may be reissued as more snow develops. overnight lows tonight, mainly in the low to mid 50s. highs tomorrow low 60s. and here is the accuweather seven day forecast. so we have two consecutive days of level two storms late tomorrow. and monday. and on tuesday still raining but mainly light rain. a level one storm. same thing on wednesday. thursday drying out a little bit with a mix of sun and clouds and getting milder as we approach the end of the week with high temperatures in the mid 60s. thursday, friday and saturday, that's something to look forward to, at least for many of us. >> yeah, i think in the meantime we'll be watching the ground for that saturation. yes we will. >> the ground is pretty saturated already, so with more rain on the way for the next four days, it's a good probability of some localized flooding, especially in low lying areas. all right. >> we'll be watching it all. excuse me. spencer. thank you. well, still ahead on abc7 news at 11 tonight, the buffalo bills

in the sight of what will be the nfc championship next week, but the niners taking on the packers today, a historic 10th playoff matchup between the two teams. and it was a classic in a way you might not expect. rainy and cold night here in santa clara at levi's stadium. you see the lights, the rain coming down. howard brock purdy and the guys look after the bye week. they started out slow. and then first quarter bad news, right away. deebo samuel hit hard and they worked on his shoulder. and then he would actually not play after halftime. so deebo was out. second quarter green bay up three. nothing. and the niners with a huge fourth down stop. green bay tried to sneak it and get more points kyle shanahan his defense says no and you'll like it. 40 niners respond 12 play 86 yard drive. purdy to number 85 george kittle touchdown 32 yards. the niners

trump are on the campaign trail, making their final pitches to voters. here's abc's morgan norwood with the very latest from manchester, new hampshire. >> tonight former president donald trump surrounding himself with leaders from nikki haley's home state, including current south carolina governor henry mcmaster, as he addressed supporters at a rally in manchester. >> this tuesday, it is finally going to turn your way and i believe that new hampshire is going to speak very loudly and clearly. >> reporter the former president already picked up a major endorsement this week from south carolina senator tim scott. pay attention. >> listen closely, and let's talk about four more years. >> reporter haley says she was disappointed by the political snub from scott, whom she appointed to the senate while she was governor of south carolina. of course, i was disappointed. >> he's got to live with that decision. i don't have to live with that decision. >> haley, though continuing to hammer away at donald trump and president biden's age. when you see them hit a certain age, you there is a decline.

>> this is a situation where our country is very vulnerable right now, and we can't just have four years. we've got to have eight years of somebody that's on it all the time. >> while not officially endorsing any candidate, asa hutchinson, who has suspended his own campaign, throwing his support behind haley in tuesday's primary, a win on tuesday could help fast track trump to a third gop presidential nomination. >> i am voting 100% republican. trump all the way. >> though polls show haley trailing close behind, i think nikki is the right person who should hopefully be able to bridge the divide, but she'll need the support of undecided voters. >> i'm trying to find who would be the best alternative to trump and potentially to biden. meanwhile governor ron desantis is already in south carolina, weeks ahead of super tuesday, hoping to gain early ground. >> morgan norwood abc news, manchester, new hampshire. >> the billionaire backed group that's trying to build a new city in solano county filed a ballot initiative this week to take the issue to voters. this

is the first time the public is getting to see a detailed plan on how this would all work. abc7 news reporter i-team reporter i should say stephanie sierra has been following the story since the beginning. >> new renderings from california forever give a glimpse of what this new city, spanning 18,000 acres in eastern solano county, would look like. ariel's of neighborhoods, safe, slow streets, a downtown plaza with transit and family friendly parks and open space and walkable main streets. >> it will be smaller than vacaville, smaller than vallejo, and about two thirds the size of fairfield. >> ceo jan sramek explains, if passed by the voters, the new city expected to accommodate tens of thousands of people, promises 15,000 new jobs that pay at least 125% of the county average weekly wage. he says some of these jobs would be in advanced manufacturing, renewable energy and construction. the plan also commits to investing in green spaces, clean energy and protecting travis air force

his twin brother dan built a miniature version of the 1939 world's fair golden gate exposition on treasure island. the model went on display for today only at the treasure island museum. it highlights the fair's art deco architecture when some lifelike details of the nearly century old expo i got inspired. >> i looked at what the real estate i had to work with, and then i had to plan an attack.
