court. stanford's tara vanderveer breaks a major record in the world of college basketball. abc seven news at six starts right now. >> for building a better bay area moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc seven news. >> holloway preparing for the worst with the heaviestrillionain of our storm series on the way. this system packs with it powerful winds and even some possible thunderstorms . and that storm system is just hours away. good evening and thanks for joining us, everybody. i'm dionne lim. we have live team coverage for you of the approaching storm that is bringing us a third round of rain. it's expected to be the heaviest rain. so far and has triggered a flood watch abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian lets us know what to expect. >> spencer okay, dion, the storm is certainly expanding its reach in the previous hour, it was mainly a north bay event in sonoma county. now let's take a look at live doppler seven. you can see the storm is moving eastward and southward right

now, se of the heaviest rain has now moved out of santa rosa, although more is approaching santa rosa over towards saint helena and napa in napa county, and over eastward towards solano county. so let's take a look at the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. this is a level two storm for tonight and early tomorrow. we expect periods of moderate to heavy rainfall, gusty wind with gusts up to 45mph, possibly, and a slight chance of thunder. here's a forecast animation starting at 7 p.m. notice how the storm sweeps eastward and southward. by eight 830, it will be down into the peninsula over to the east bay. we're going to have wet weather here in san francisco, and that pattern continues until well beyond midnight. now starts to taper off in the north bay after midnight. but as the morning commute gets underway at 5 a.m. tomorrow, there is going to be widespread rainfall and some of it heavy, along with gusty winds in fact, we have a wind advisory in effect from 10 p.m. tonight until 4 a.m. tomorrow. i'll have a closer look at the seven day forecast a little bit later dion. >> all right. watching it closely spencer thanks. all of this rain has people in the north bay bracing for flooding and landslides. at least one home in sonoma county has been

yellow tagged after a landslide in that area. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard is live for us once again in santa rosa. cornell, you spoke with that homeowner not to mention the rain still seems to be coming down. >> yeah, it certainly is. dion. yeah, that homeowner said the landslide was scary and totally unexpected. and like you said, yes, it is pouring here in sonoma county tonight. and firstrillionesponders well they're ready for what's next. >> anxious scared and worried. you know we've uh- we really like this house sydney dawson is feeling all the emotions after this large landslide happened saturday. >> only feed from her hillside home in guerneville. >> i didn't think a thing about it. it sounded though, like a clod, and we didn't realize until a couple hours later it was like, oh my gosh, this slides right? starts at our living room and goes, i don't know how far, but pretty much down the river road. >> firstrillionesponders say the

slide is about 30ft wide and six feet deep, with mud. it prompted sonoma county inspectors to yellow tag cindy's home, which means limited entry at the property and more rain is coming. >> we're just going to try to get enough out of here, enough clothes in case the house decides in case we go from i like to say river view to river front. if the house decides to slide down the hill, we might end up with river front. suddenly that's a joke. >> a new storm is no joke to local firefighters. they're watching the russian river and its tributaries for possible flooding over the next few days. >> a lot of saturation going on right now. the river's maintaining russian river is maintaining. however, it will increase with more rain that we see. >> captain jones says his swiftwater rescue team is ready with watercraft and rope systems to bring victims to safety. if needed. >> our biggest concern right now are landslides, trees down, blocking roadways potentially causing more vehicle accidents,

new homeowners john and lisa enterline say they're ready for rain. >> we're first time homeowners, and so we kind of went through this last year. we're hoping it doesn't last as long this year, but just trying to stay dry the best we can. >> as for cindy dawson, she and her husband are leaving their home until it's safe to return. got our rv out of storage and we'll be staying in an rv park until we figure out what to do and how to do it. yeah, and cindy says she is working with the county and her fingers are crossed that the remaining hillside around her home remains stable. during the next storm. uh. as you can see, it is pouring right now. we are getting soaked. firstrillionesponders are suggesting they are asking actually that folks stay off the road if you can because it's very wet out here and we're live in sonoma county tonight. cornell bernard abc seven news. >> always a good reminder. you can even hear that rain behind you, cornell. many thanks. now

crews are clearing a stretch of road in burlingame blocked by dirt and rocks after heavy rainfall. the storm knocked loose a chunk of hillside that blocked part of canyon road at el prado road. there are no reports of injury or vehicle damage, but the area has been closed off while that debris is cleared and you can track the forecast anytime with the same live doppler seven that spencer uses. just search abc seven bay area in your device's app store to download it. now oakland is losing its in-n-out burger, and the restaurant is blaming crime in and outs. chief operating officer tells me that customers and associates of the oak street location are regularly victimized by car break-ins property damage, theft and armed robberies. that location is just off of hegenberger road. the coo says the store is still profitable, but safety is their top priority. employees will be transferred to nearby locations or receive a severance package. the store's last day of business

will be sunday, march 24th. now less than a mile down the road from the in-n-out, an atm was stolen from a bank in oakland this morning. police say thieves used a van and chains to tear the machine out of the ground. it all happened at the bank of america branch on hegenberger road near the oakland airport. the thieves left quite a bit of damage in the drive-thru area. moving on to new details now in a story we first told you about at five, police have arrested a suspect in a shooting at an apartment complex just south of half moon bay. the crime happened at about 7:00 last night at the moon ridge apartments. a farm worker housing development in an unincorporated area of san mateo county. investigators say the victim was shot multiple times, but was conscious and alert as he was taken to the hospital. police identified an 18 year old man as the suspect and arrested him without incident. now that incident as half moon bay remains members the victims of a deadly mass shooting last year.

a public memorial is underway right now to. thursday will mark one year since the attack at two locations in the city. investigators say a farm laborer shot five people at a mushroom farm where he worked, killing four. he then fatally shot three more people at a farm about two miles away before this incident, many of the farm workers kept quiet for a lot of things, but what not right now? >> we are very interested in working with the with the sheriff's department and to, uh, to have them do outreach to reach out to the farms and have the community feel safe to report any crimes that happens, you know, towards them. farm workers have been victims of crimes, you know, for many decades that have not been reported. >> tonight's memorial is taking place at the boys and girls club in half moon bay. it will be followed by a candlelit procession to mark dutra plaza. then a moment of silence for the victims. it's been just over a year since san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins assumed office. abc7 news anchor stephanie sierra spoke with her

about what's being done and the hard work ahead. >> during your first week in office, you stressed you would prioritize cleaning up the city, specifically the tenderloin. how would you grade the livability right now in the tenderloin? >> i think we still have a great deal of work to do in the tenderloin. my office is working very hard to prosecute those who continue to deal drugs on the streets. there we are meaningfully working hard to try to strategize with the department of public health and the police department and the mayor's office with how we address those who are addicted to fentanyl, who we know need our help and need treatment desperately. we are continuing to make progress. we've got great partnerships with other law enforcement agencies, but we still have a long way to go. >> now, the conviction rate in san francisco has increased for the first time in eight years, according to data from your office, 37% of cases resulted in a conviction in 2022 to almost 43% in 2023. it is the first time since 2016 that those rates

have increased. but where does recidivism stand in san francisco currently? would you say it's gotten worse, better, or the same? >> i would say when i took over, it was at its height. people did not believe there was any accountable city. they were being released immediately after their arrest. and so the courthouse was a revolving door. and in many ways, despite my office fighting against that, it still is for certain types of crime. that's why i've been so vocal about the judge's impact when it comes to us asking to detain certain drug dealers while their cases are open, we are still seeing that it's taking 3 or 4 arrests for that to happen, and that shouldn't be the case. >> well, coming up next on abc7 news systemwide strike thousand of csu faculty members are expected to walk off the job this week, and the impact it could have on hundreds of thousands of students at and pod problems. the investigation into people living in tiny sleeping pods in downtown san francisco

is, it'll bring the heaviest rain of the three storm system that is blowing through the bay area. he'll have an hour by hour rain timeline in just a few minutes. well, new details now on a story we first told you about back in september. a pod housing complex built above san francisco's mint plaza is still housing residents, despite it being cited by the city in october. this is according to our media partners at the standard. the development is managed by brownstone shared housing, which hasn't responded to requests for comment at. the city hit the company with permit violations because of an illegal change from office to residential housing. a hearing over the matter is scheduled for february sixth. happening tomorrow. thousands of staff members at california state university campuses will begin a week long strike. this could impact as many as 400,000 students statewide. the union, representing 28,000 workers, is demanding a 12% salary increase

ab 7.7in of snow fell there in just the last 24 hours, with even more on the way. the lab reports as of saturday, snow levels are 55% of normal. slowly the state's snowpack is creeping upward and take a look at these

images from palisades tahoe, where the resort says eight inches of fresh powder fell in the last day. plenty of folks as you can see, just eager to take advantage of the snow and the wintry conditions there. snow levels could drop to 5500ft overnight at that resort. right now, roads in tahoe. those are wet. take a look. these are our caltrans cameras that show the recent snow isn't causing any major issues or chain required, at least for now. winter driving conditions, though in the sierra can change rapidly. good to see that the temperatures are warm enough that the roads aren't giving too many issues. and see for yourself. this was the scene when there are problems. this is last night. the chp office in truckee posted this video showing one cruiser towing a second that was just stuck in the snow. this happened on i-80 at castle peak near donner and just a few degrees different spencer and take a look at what happens. >> you're right about that. and you know the storm here i mentioned earlier is a

relatively mild storm as it is in the sierra, but it's going to get colder there and the snow will pile up. here's a look at live doppler seven d on. you can see wide spread rain and some downpours in the bay area right now, reaching down from the north bay where it all started through san francisco, onto the peninsula and over to the east bay right now. so this is a storm for the entire region. it's getting breezy, but not gusty yet across most of the bay area, although we expect some gusts later tonight to accompany the heaviestrillionainfall. you can see on the 24 hour temperature change, it's about 4 or 5 or even six degrees warmer. now now over most of the bay area than at this time last night. and right now it's 59 degrees at san francisco and oakland, 62 at hayward and san jose, san mateo, 6055 at half moon bay. other temperature readings at this hour. we've got mid 50s at santa rosa, petaluma and napa, 59 at fairfield, 61 at concord. let's check out our forecast headlines late night storm is developing right now with rain and heavy rain during the overnight period into the morning commute. in fact, speaking of the morning commute is probably going to be a messy

one with rainy, gusty conditions and possibly a thunderstorm. it's a slight chance of that, and through midweek we expect dry weather on tuesday and more rain coming in on wednesday. on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale this storm for tonight and tomorrow morning is a level two storm with moderate to heavy rainfall again, gusty wind and a slight chance of thunder. and here's the forecast animation. starting at 630, it will continue spreading the storm well southward and eastward. 830 by 10:00, all regions of the bay area will be quite wet and again, with those brief downpour hours accompanied by strong gusty wind. even after midnight still raining over most of the bay area by the time the morning commute begins at 5 a.m, the storm will be winding down a little bit in the north bay, but still raging for much of the bay area. so again, expect messy conditions for the morning commute, rainfall estimates have been upgraded now to just under an inch in parts of the south bay, over an inch over in hayward in the east bay, inch and a half or more in oakland up in the north bay, about an inch
