exclusive abc7 news storm impact scale. right away. let's get a check with spencer christian and a look at those rain numbers. spencer okay, diane. >> yes, still a level. excuse me. still a level one storm, but the storm is beginning to fall apart. as you can see here, let me close in a little bit and show you where it is. still raining. we still have wet spots, as you can see up in the north bay, a fairly wide area of mainly lightrillionain, but some brief downpours. also moving from sonoma county over into napa county, then in the inland east bay. we've got a widespread area of lightrillionain from oak anchor to antioch down into brentwood, discovery bay and a few downpours in that region as well. down in the south bay from coyote to morgan hill to gilroy, we've got some widespread downpours, so some pretty heavy rain there and once again, it is still a level one storm. as you look at the loop radar and satellite image, you can see not much developing offshore right now. so we're likely to get fewer and fewer of these impulses coming onshore tonight. but a level one storm into this evening, we expect more

scattered showers, flooded roads still a possibility, especially some of the street streams and creeks and even rivers will be overflowing just a little bit because the ground is so saturated. so here's our forecast animation taking us into the evening hours starting at 5 p.m. notice it becomes lighter and lighter as we get later into the evening, and finally, after about 8 p.m. or so, pretty much no storm at all. although there still could be some trailing light showers going into the late night hours. the good news is, of course, things are improving, but we still have saturated soil. once again, a coastal flood advisory will be in effect from 8 a.m. to noon tomorrow around the bay shoreline. the north bay shoreline and some of the interior valleys where again is so saturated we could see flooding on roads, lots, parks, rivers, creeks and streams. larry and diane. >> all right. thank you, spencer . enjoy the little lull that we have while we can, b rain coming now to the north bay, where one community in sonoma county is drying out and cleaning up today, heavy rains brought flooding to guerneville after fife creek overflowed its

banks. >> abc seven news reporter cornell bernard is there live for us with an idea of what's happening now. quite a difference from the past couple of days, cornell. >> yeah, for sure. diane and larry. in fact, we are seeing blue skies breaking through here . but a very scary day for some residents in guerneville after five creek here over flowed its banks as you can see, the water has now receded, but the high water forced a lot of people from their homes overnight. flood water rushing in overnight to this guerneville neighborhood. the water rising fast inside the sycamore court mobile home park resident al mathers couldn't believe it. >> i just talked to the policeman that was sitting on the corner and he said in less than 20 minutes, 30 to 20 minutes, it flooded. >> firstrillionesponders say heavy rain caused the water to rise as high as four feet. the water comes from comes from fife creek, um, and off of the mountains. >> it's all the surface water

and we just don't have enough infrastructure to get it out of here fast enough. >> captain jones says his swift water rescue team went door to door to assist anyone who needed to evacuate. >> they were banging on the trailers to see if everybody was okay. there was about three inches of water on our floor. our whole trailer is covered in water right now. um it's just been a rough night. just was a rough night. amber hughes showed us just how high the water got and shared pictures of the mess it left inside. >> everything soaked. she and her husband, brandon, are now looking for a new place to live. >> right now we're we're talking with our mother in law to stay down there on the park, which is where we evacuated to saw all of our pets are at right now. >> while we were there, the red cross showed up to offer assistance. >> the situation here, you know it. >> it definitely requires some cleanup. >> um, and that's what we're that's what we're going to try to provide assistance for.

fire investigator is coming forward to abc news. urging prosecutors to reexamine the case. >> this has always been one of those things that kind of sits in the back of your head and kind of bugs you a little bit, and you kind of wonder why this didn't happen or why it wasn't brought up. >> brian spitalsky speaking out on the heels of the los angeles innocence project stunning court motion about the potential of new evidence, lawyers for the nonprofit focusing on stains from a mattress in the back of a burned van that tested presumptive positive for blood. spitalsky investigated that van in december of 2002. it was found the day after laci disappeared, less than a mile from the couple's home. >> you know, i don't know that i was tying the moment to laci. i was more tying the moment that it was human blood. it made it like this was much more important than just a burned vehicle, that somebody was just wanting to get rid of or cover up a simple crime. >> in a court filing, lawyers say dna testing done on a small

portion of that mattress several years later was insufficient to determine whether dna from laci or their unborn son was present. now, a private fire investigator, spitalsky, says no one from the prosecution or the defense came to him for his evaluation of the van. >> i don't have a an agenda or an opinion on his guilt or his innocence. this is for me. it's a fire investigator in a vehicle that has blood, possible blood, you know, um, on the mattress. and that right there is important the ella innocence project believes enhanced dna testing could provide more information. >> the district attorney's office says peterson's conviction was upheld in 2022. tim pulliam, abc news, los angeles. as part of our efforts to help build a better bay area, we look at quality of life problems like car break ins in oakland, an in-n-out restaurant is closing because of a rise of

crime in that neighborhood. >> it's the location near the oakland airport. abc seven news reporter ryan curry shows us exactly how bad the crime is in that region, and why this closing could be a major hit for travelers, as too much crime. >> that is why in-n-out burger is closing its location by the oakland airport, they claim while the store makes money, it's no longer safe for customers or employees. our customers and associates are regularly victimized by car break-ins property damage, theft and armed robberies, the company said in a statement. i think it's just very sad that we've essentially forced a business to close because of crime and that somehow nothing can be done about that. nick ozer went to pick up his relative at the oakland airport. in and out burger on hegenberger is sometimes a planned stop. >> i have friends who look forward to coming to the oakland airport because it provides them with an opportunity to stop it in and out. >> it's a little sad to hear

that there's that much crime that a that a business has to close. according to oakland police data, burglaries in this region of the city rose substantially since 2019. >> robberies also increased. opd says they added two foot patrols to thatrillionegion in the last few months, and some of the crimes started to trend downward. whether going to or from the oakland airport. it's common for people to stop at that. in-n-out burger. these waves of crime have forced even the airport to take their own safety precautions. at the rental car lot, a sign telling people to hide their valuables, the oakland airport says thieves target rental cars, workers here say break-ins are common. how often would you say, oh, almost. >> maybe every week, sometimes four times in one day. a robbery once made nick fear for his life. >> i've been robbed at gunpoint. oh, man. sorry. and, um, it's chilling. >> he doesn't want anyone else to go through what he did. he

since the tragic passing of assistant coach dan milojevic. abc seven's chris alvarez joining us live from chase center. now and chris, a pretty somber day overall. >> yeah, larry and deon, this one was really tough today. here at the warriors. somber, sad and emotional. it had all of that today. steve kerr was fighting back tears as he held a media press conference, spoke for about 20 minutes. and you really got a good look into what kind of man coach dickey was, as he was affectionately known. here was practice today a little bit different than you would normally have here at warriors,

their first practice since coach passed away last wednesday in utah due to that heart attack. just tragic. over the past few. days, the world is finding out what the warriors already knew. coach was a beloved man who brought a special light to anyone he knew, and head coach steve kerr, fighting back tears when talking about coach dickey. >> heartbreaking devastate. hurting. um you know, it's a it's. just the saddest thing i've ever been a part of in the nba. you know, um, where, um, you know, we lose, uh, someone who's so close to us. um, and then, um, more, more importantly, um, seeing his family suffer, um, you know, so this last week has been the last five days, i guess, has been full of all of the above. the shock, the emotion, the extreme outpour pouring of love. you

weather. nothing to explain. we see blue sky. >> i see sun. but spencer, how much longer will i see sun? >> well, it'll be it'll become increasingly clear and sunny as we move into the next 24 hours. because this storm is winding down. but it's still a storm. as you can see on live doppler seven, we have pockets of rain, still not very widespread, but some of it is more than just light rain. as you look at the north bay right now from the santa rosa area of sonoma county over into much of napa county, we've got widespread lightrillionainfall over in the east bay, widespread light rainfall from oakley to brentwood to discovery bay down to altamont and some of it's not necessarily light. we've got some bright, vivid colors showing up here where there are likely some downpours, and there are certainly some downpours in the south bay right now between morgan hill and san martin. so uh- still a storm. a level one storm as we look at current conditions, showing lots of breaks of blue sky in the bay over the bay. i should say 57 degrees here in san francisco, 59 at oakland, hayward, 60 degrees, 59 at san jose and upper 50s at san mateo and half

moon bay. and looking toward the golden gate from emeryville, we see some dark clouds there, but not much in the way of rainfall. 61 right now at santa rosa, 59 petaluma and low 60s at napa, fairfield, concord and livermore. and these are our forecast headlines tonight. just a few scattered showers getting fewer and fewer as we get later into the evening hours tomorrow. a brief period of drying brief because wednesday, our next storm will arrive and we'll get a little bit more rainfall. the storm that we have this evening still a level one, although it may not even be a ranked storm at all in the next two hours, but it is still producing some scattered showers. there still a possibility of flooding on roads and downed trees because the ground is so saturated. here's a forecast animation starting at 5 p.m. notice as we go hour by hour 6 p.m. 7 p.m. you see the storm just falling apart and not much coming behind it except some clouds and some partial clearing, which is good news for a while. on we go to the coastal flood advisory for the north bay shoreline and the bay shoreline and some of the interior valleys

of the north bay. because it's saturated there, and there's still a chance of some flooding on roads, lots and in parks that will be between 8 a.m. and noon tomorrow. overnight, we'll see a partial clearing, but still some lingering clouds. overnight lows, mainly in the upper 40s to low 50. high temperatures tomorrow 58. half moon bay 59, in san francisco, around the bay shoreline will see 60 to 60 1 or 62 degrees up in the north bay. relatively mild, low 60s santa rosa, napa. same range over in the inland east bay and down in san jose. a high of 63. tomorrow. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. after some sunny, drier weather tomorrow, another level one storm comes in on wednesday, bringing morning showers and maybe a few downpours and morning clouds giving way to sunshine on thursday. friday clouds increase. there's just a slight, slight chance of a shower or two on saturday, but mainly just a cloudy day and a warmer pattern develops going into sunday and monday. looks like it's going to be great weather on sunday for the niners. nfc championship game against the detroit lions.

shut down. so that's why we're striking some 460,000 students at 23 campuses are impacted, including four in the bay area. >> reporter rob hayes has a look at the issues. >> this is what it looks like when day one of classes meets. day one of the largest university faculty strike in u.s. history, barren campuses. except for the spots where california faculty association members say are hitting the picket lines and. you'll find scenes like this on all 23 of the california state university campuses across the state. >> we are on strike for our dignity and self-respect above all, but we're also on strike for decent salary. >> the striking teachers have a long list of demands they're seeking, like more manageable workloads and increased parental leave. but at the top of the list is that pay boost 12% for one year is what the unions nearly 30,000 members want. >> we have seen a rise in rents

and food and all cost. and actually what we are finding is just catching up. a cola basically a cost of living adjustment. >> the csu has already approved a 5% raise that will kick in at the end of this month, but says the union's demands would cost $380 million, which the system cannot afford. >> if we were to agree to the increases that these unions are demanding, we would have to make severe cuts to programs. we would have to lay off employees caught in the middle, or the nearly half million students who attend csu schools. >> university officials have said the strike is not expected to impact graduation. daetz rob hayes, abc seven news. there's new hope today that a simple blood test could one day predict someone's risk of developing alzheimer's disease. >> the medical journal jama published a study on that blood test, which scans for proteins often present in the brains of impacted people. >> research is really advancing in the way we're looking at

point that this emphasis on winning as opposed to participate and just being part of it and the lessons learned by that, you know, most, most kids that participate in sports are not going to go on to be professional athletes. the stakes aren't that high. and i think there's just tremendous pressure these days. and you make a good point, larry. they're all overscheduled. i mean, you know, you don't see kids out in the street playing anymore. they're busy doing other things. right. >> and dan, i think it takes a lot of the fun out of it. spencer i mean, we forget so often times it's not about competition. always it's about actually just doing the sport. >> well, the key is to find that balance because it is a competitive event. so you want to compete and see what you can achieve, or you can defeat the opposition, but you also want it to be fun. you don't want it to be all about winning, winning, winning at all costs. >> yeah, i think it's age appropriate. you don't need your five year olds. you know. right? right. going all in. we have to win. so cutthroat. but when you're a teenager and you know, you're maybe you're thinking about playing in college or whatever, that's it gets more serious. yeah.
