(vo) want to get paid up to two days early? you can with wells fargo. outrageous. how much is too much? abc news reporter ariel reshef with the new report from the american academy of pediatrics issuing a new warning about youth sports, saying too much pressure on kids performance is leading to overtraining, injuries and burnout. >> alex. in recent years, experts raising more concerns that overzealous parents can take the fun out for kids when there's such an overemphasis on winning, it really takes away the enjoyment. >> the new study finds a whopping 70% of kids are dropping out of organized youth sports by age 13.
4:40 pm
>> factors include depression, fatigue, sleep problems and injuries. the aap recommending youth athletes should take part in no more than one sport per day, and have at least one day of rest per week from organized sports and experts say the focus should not be on wins and losses . >> it doesn't matter if they win or lose, it's that they're building their character and they're taking care of their bodies. >> well, i think one of the things that we're seeing is that a lot of kids nowadays are just simply overscheduled with too many activities, whether they be sports or other things. and, you know, most of the of the doctors nowadays will tell you they would prefer that. let's say, let's say a baseball pitcher that he do something else in the winter time and not just throw and throw and throw and throw, because that's where the injuries come in. but but i don't know. this is not surprising to them. >> you know it's not. and i think what ariel made a good
4:41 pm
point that this emphasis on winning as opposed to participate and just being part of it and the lessons learned by that, you know, most, most kids that participate in sports are not going to go on to be professional athletes. the stakes aren't that high. and i think there's just tremendous pressure these days. and you make a good point, larry. they're all overscheduled. i mean, you know, you don't see kids out in the street playing anymore. they're busy doing other things. right. >> and dan, i think it takes a lot of the fun out of it. spencer i mean, we forget so often times it's not about competition. always it's about actually just doing the sport. >> well, the key is to find that balance because it is a competitive event. so you want to compete and see what you can achieve, or you can defeat the opposition, but you also want it to be fun. you don't want it to be all about winning, winning, winning at all costs. >> yeah, i think it's age appropriate. you don't need your five year olds. you know. right? right. going all in. we have to win. so cutthroat. but when you're a teenager and you know, you're maybe you're thinking about playing in college or whatever, that's it gets more serious. yeah.
4:42 pm
>> not kids. all right, moving on. this is my favorite story, man. camps apparently, are the latest trend on social media. listen up, you guys. yeah, they are exactly what they sound like. all male boot camps participants endure brutal activities meant to help them reclaim their masculinity. this video from a camp in chino hills shows men, yes, climbing up a muddy hill and then the instructor pulling them back down. other activities include ice baths, running with weighted ropes, ax lifting. oh, that man looks very depressed. all of them look pretty depressed, actually. i don't know if this is helpful or useful or where this trend came from. i thought man camps was about etiquette and like what men should know how to do socially. you guys are all very quiet. >> we've given up on that. >> yeah, we're not trainable in those kinds of things. >> bears, furniture. >> yeah. >> i'm amused by the firm reclaiming their masculinity. i mean, how do they lose it in the first place? >> yeah, yeah, that's true. >> and i don't think being dragged down a hill in the dirt is going to reclaim.
4:43 pm
>> that's not going to do it. >> yeah. and this day in right in this day and age. right. who's to say what masculinity really is? i mean being able to it's a mix of things and it's different for different people. >> just like femininity i mean, the same thing. >> sure. did you say being able to listen? >> yeah. which is something you do not do. larry >> what was that? what was that? yeah. did you say something? the recent stanley cup craze. >> not the hockey thing, but the, you know, uh- has reached a new level. these cups are now at the center of a high end heist. believe it or not. roseville police shared a photo on facebook showing the hall of stanley cups that a woman is accused of stealing from a store last wednesday. they say there are 65 cups pictud right there. boy, she must have been thirsty, huh? in total, worth. about $2,500. >> how'd you do that? i want to know. do you like stuff them in your pants? like, do you have a big sack that you just. >> what makes them so valuable? >> it's. well it's like a social media thing that started out with the pink tumblers and then
4:44 pm
there was a run on that, and they only produced them in limited edition. and so it creates a frenzy. >> but like beanie babies now. yeah yeah. >> the limited supply and the demand, by the way, our producer, stacy says the woman loaded up her cart and just carted them out. wow. bold. well didn't work out that well. >> clearly it was really bold, but maybe not that smart. >> all right, finally. now reese witherspoon is sparking a huge debate. is it okay to eat snow? the actress shared a video on tiktok of her scooping up some freshly fallen snow, adding it to mugs and then adding some toppings on it and then eating it. i think she has some salted caramel there. that, of course, prompted people online to reshare a study published in 2016 which found snow can absorb the same toxic substances that come from car exhaust. other researchers, though they say fresh snow, has very little bacteria, is generally safe. i just don't get this. >> yeah we do. listen unless you're next to a you know, power plant or something. spencer i
4:45 pm
don't know if you did this as a kid. we used to put vanilla in the snow when it was made. snow make little snow cones. yeah. it's delicious. >> we made we did the same thing. i lived in a rural area far away from any kind of industry. yeah, so the air was pretty clean. so we would, you know, on a decent snowfall, scrape some snow off and make the snow cream. so cream always heard the warning, don't eat the yellow snow yellow. >> don't eat the yellow snow. >> that's in hawaii. we call it shave ice. yeah. everybody loves it. you put the flavor. i mean, if the snow has been there for a week and a half. all right, then. but if it just came down and it's beautiful and lovely and fine. come on. we're we're everybody's way too cautious to jump on and criticize something like that. >> it's harmless. >> yeah. you guys turned out perfectly fine. >> well, i don't know about that. that's assuming facts. not in evidence, as the lawyers would say. now, what did you say? it's good fun. >> i'm leaving. that's it. >> before ad four is finished for me. >> not
