abortion rights front and center as we transition on to the general election campaign. win or lose, here in new hampshire, nikki haley says that it's not game over for her. so the next primary that's in south carolina , and it is haley's home state. so the polls there already showing, though, that trump is leading by more than 30 points. lionel >> all right melissa. thank you. a state of emergency has been declared because of flooding in san diego. hundreds had to be rescued from flooded homes, and dozens more were rescued from their cars. water erupted from sewers as more than a month's worth of rain fell in three hours. some parts of california got nine inches of rain in three days. meanwhile rain and ice are moving into the midwest with slick roads in chicago and detroit, and then snow moves into western pennsylvania, new york, and parts of new england. ice from that same system wreaked havoc on the roads in missouri. just look at this video. this fire truck spinning out of control. we'll check your forecast in just a few moments.

now to a really dramatic scene at a u.s. military base. >> a rogue wave slamming ashore, causing damage and destruction. and experts warn we could soon be seeing more of this kind of damage. keep the door closed. >> whoa! >> new video shows the terrified moment a massive wave hit a u.s. military base on a remote island in the pacific. first. you're good, you're good. the force of the water ripping the doors from their hinges, taking two people with them. those inside climbed on tables, clinging to anything they could reach. moments later, a second wave rushes in, knocking out windows. thankfully only minor injuries were reported, but the army says at least a third of the base located in the marshall islands in the heart of the pacific, was flooded. >> this is going to go down in history books as one of its most challenging times ever. in its 80 year history. we will get through this and we are settling in for a marathon of recovery

to demolish two buildings. the attack follows reports that israel is now proposing a two month cease fire in hopes of freeing the hostages being held by hamas. it comes after family members of the hostages stormed an israeli parliament meeting, demanding lawmakers bring home their loved ones. >> us and british forces have carried out joint airstrikes against iran backed militants in yemen. officials say they destroyed houthi missile storage sites and drones after dozens of recent attacks on ships in the red sea. the white house insists u.s. airstrikes are working to deter the rebels. >> back here at home. a trial gets underway in michigan today stemming from a deadly school shooting. but it's not the shooter on trial. it's his mother. this morning, jury selection is set to begin in the trial of jennifer crumbly. her son ethan opened fire at his high school in oxford, michigan, in 2021, killing four students. this rare case is attempting to hold the parent of a school shooter criminally accountable.

>> also breaking overnight a crippling strike at one of the largest school systems in the country has been called off. here's abc's derrick dennis. >> this morning they have a deal. nearly 30,000 professors, library and other workers at california state university set to walk off the job while demanding more pay and benefits, have announced a tentative deal with cal state, the largest public university system in the country. the union overnight out saying in case anyone forgot strikes work, the union had demanded a 12% raise. the school, saying that would cost more than $300 million per year across the school's 23 campuses. >> i have served over 7000 students who are now science educators, doctors, engineers and nurses. yet my salary does not keep up with the cost of living and inflation. >> terms of the tentative deal include a 5% pay hike for all faculty, raising the salary floor for the lowest paid
