just one rogue shower in the south bay. i'll press on down just a little bit closer where we are getting some light sprinkles. you can see just over the last hour it's the south bay and it's really thin area of the south bay around san jose, around mineta, san jose international that we are seeing some light sprinkles out there. for the most part, it's just a dry morning for the rest of us, but we are dealing with pockets of fog out there will widen out the picture. it's the north bay that's getting inundated once again with that thick fog areas less than a mile. so this morning we'll track those pockets of fog. it's a mix of sun and clouds throughout your day, with temperatures in the upper 50s to the lower 60s. but widespread rain back in the forecast tomorrow. and it will impact the wednesday morning commute. we'll take a closer look at the timeline of this next storm coming up in a few minutes. let's check in with gloria and see how the commute is doing. >> good morning drew. steph, are looking pretty good out there. i know when i got on the roads this morning, i did have a little bit of rain and then it cleared up this is a live look

outside right now on your san mateo-hayward bridge camera and i'm going to westbound to the peninsula is a little bit slower this morning, but nothing out of the ordinary for today. and then a look at your mass transit for this morning. so far everything is running on time. and bart, muni and ace and the ferry as well. >> thank you gloria. this morning they have a deal. a massive strike by thousands of california state university workers is now over. it was supposed to last a week, but a surprise tentative agreement came just hours after that strike began. abc seven news reporter lena howland live at cal state east bay in hayward with the details on this. lena kumasi, good morning to you. >> the california faculty association is celebrating this deal, tweeting out overnight in case anyone forgot strikes work. diving right into the terms of this deal reached, the union says this tentatively includes a 5% pay hike for all faculty, raising the salary floor for the lowest paid workers, and increasing parental leave from

six up to ten weeks. this deal was made just a day into the union's planned week long strike, which started on the same day as the new csu semester began. the union has since called off the strike and said union members will return back to work today. the union had originally demanded a 12% pay raise. >> i have served over 7000 students who are now science educators, doctors, engineers and nurses. yet my salary does not keep up with the cost of living and inflation. >> and the union president and the union overnight saying this deal reflects the solidarity displayed by faculty, staff and students. and once again, to look at the terms of this deal reached overnight. that is a 5% pay hike for all faculty, raising the salary floor for the lowest paid workers and increasing parental leave from six up to ten weeks. now union

members are still expected to vote to ratify this deal sometime within the next week. in the next few weeks, in order to make this official live in hayward. lena howland, abc seven news lena, thank you. >> the city manager of daly city will become one of the highest paid in the state. the city council voted to raise the salary of thomas piccolo to more than $440,000 by 2026, according to the state comptroller's office. as of 2022, only the city managers of sacramento, santa clara, ventura and beverly hills make more in total wages. the group accountable. daly city does not approve of this. >> we have a deficit in the city , and it would not be prudent for any of us to approve, as the mayor of daly city, i can say, without any hesitation that that mr. piccolotti is worth his salary and much more. >> after discussion and public

comment, the city council ultimately approved the increase with three out of four in agreement. >> your voice, your vote. the first votes have been cast in the new hampshire primary early this morning. nikki haley swept donald trump six votes to zero in tiny dixville notch, which continued its tradition of casting votes at midnight. but it is an uphill battle for haley . polls show her trailing trump by double digits overall in new hampshire. she spent yesterday trying to convince voters to deliver her an upset victory. we can't be a country in disarray and have a world on fire and go through four more years of chaos because we won't survive it. >> so if you want a losing candidate who puts america last, vote for nikki haley. meanwhile the new hampshire attorney general's office says it is investigating reports of an apparent robocall. >> that call used artificial intelligence to mimic president biden, telling people in the state not to vote in the primary . the white house says the president did not record the

call. >> it's a local race that's pretty exciting, and that is to fill the u.s. senate seat of diane feinstein. last night, a showdown on the debate stage. the top four candidates, democrats adam schiff, katie porter and barbara lee, they are sparring with republican and former la dodgers steve garvey, prior. every election is now just six weeks away, and california has what's called a blanket primary that means when voters go to the polls, march fifth, the top two candidates, regardless of party, advance to the general election in november . here's abc seven news reporter tim johns. i just like to repeat this together. >> let's keep it together. >> heated moments monday night during the first debate for the race to be the nets calif senator. >> so while others can talk about taking on corporations or taking on industries, some of us actually have done things. >> three democrats and one republican sparred over issues from the war in the middle east to abortion to statewide problems like homelessness. katie porter highlighting affordable housing as the main priority for her campaign. >> what we need is housing

policy that works for us, housing policy that is centered on our needs, crime and public safety were also key discussion points. >> bay area rep barbara lee even coming under fire for crime in her hometown of oakland with debate moderators highlighting the upcoming closure of the city's in-n-out. >> we have to have more resources coming into our communities to make sure that there's more interaction between the police and the community. >> all three democratic candidates took turns attacking republican steve garvey, especially over his past support of former president donald trump . garvey maintaining that he's a moderate republican and trying to paint his opponents as career politicians. >> i owe no one. i'm a fresh face. i'll have fresh ideas. i will listen to needs of californians. >> the two candidates who received the most votes during the primary will ultimately move on to the general election. in the fall, regardless of their party. but given the state's liberal tilt, political science professor melissa michaelson says it's often the democratic candidate who wins the primary that comes out on top in a lot

of cases, including this one, it can turn out to be that the primary is where things are decided. tim johns, abc seven news. >> new. this morning, the us and british militaries bombed multiple targets in yemen, trying to retaliate against the houthi rebels in the red sea. this is the second time the two have coordinated attacks against the rebel group. officials say the strikes took out houthi missile storage sites, drones and missile launchers. several allies, including canada and australia, contributed to the mission with intelligence and surveillance. still to come, if you take transit, you might notice some changes at the stations. pretty soon. a new look coming to transit maps at bart, caltrain and muni, then cleanup begins across the bay area after heavy rain and winds left some serious damage behind. >> 609 this morning, it is a mix of sun and clouds. today, upper 50s to the lower 60s for daytime highs, but rain back in the forecast tomorrow morning and that will impact the wednesday morning commute. we'll go into

fog in the north bay, a mix of sun and clouds throughout the afternoon. the afternoon will be dry, but that will change tomorrow morning. today will get your highs into the upper 50s and into the lower 60s. but then our next storm arrives. here it is on live doppler seven, along with satellite low pressure spinning a front making its way closer to us, and it will really impact us tomorrow morning. so look, atrillionain chances, this is for wednesday tomorrow and you have the best chance of finding showers and they could be heavy at times during the

so dramatic and really scary. all of this playing out at a us military base, a rogue wave slammed ashore, causing all of this damage. and gloria, experts are warning we could see more of

this type of damage. >> that's right, kumasi a pentagon study has warned, quote, increased rise in sea level will result in greater wave driven runup and island flooding. researchers say that that will threaten the fresh water supply as soon as 2035. and check out this new video right here. it shows the moment that a massive wave hit a us military base on a remote island in the pacific. the force of the water ripped the doors from their hinges, taking two people with them. now people climbed inside on top of tables. they hung on to anything that they could reach, and moments later you could see a second wave right there. it rushes in, it knocks out windows. only minor injuries were reported, but the army says at least one third of the base was flooded. >> this is going to go down in history books as one of its most challenging times ever in its 80 year history. we will get through this and we are settling in for a marathon of recovery head non mission personnel were evacuated from the island, which

is located in the marshall islands in the pacific. >> the flooding has closed. two nearby airports, possibly for weeks. >> thanks, gloria. communities across the bay area cleaning up this morning after our recent storms in the santa cruz mountains. a huge tree came crashing down on top of a cabin and blocked highway nine. the tree slid down the mountainside and fell over in the storm. my parents bought this place when i was a year old, so this is really the most home i have. >> i was planning to come out here this morning and get a fire started in the fireplace and dry it all out and get it set up for the girl scout meeting. when i got a text from my neighbor across the street with a photo saying, your house with a couple exclamation marks, the owner of the cabin does plan to rebuild. >> the area of highway nine was closed in both directions for hours as crews worked to remove the tree in the north bay. >> guerneville residents are

using a break in the rain to dry out and to clean up after fife creek overflowed its banks. we first told you about this yesterday morning. people had to be waking up in the middle of. they woke up in the middle of the night as sonoma county officials were going door to door alerting people to leave their homes. >> they were banging on the trailers to see if everybody was okay. there was about three inches of water on our floor, and our whole trailer is covered in water right now. um it's just been a rough night. just was a rough night. >> um, i feel for her. >> the red cross now offering assistance. flooding has happened in that area before, and neighbors tell abc seven news they would like the county to develop some kind of flood protection plan to keep them safe during future storms. all right. totally different subject tailgating can sometimes be over the top and dangerous in this case, a fan's pants caught on fire. he is okay, but what in the world? this was before the

drew. >> yeah, we're getting a break from the storms today outside this morning. live doppler seven showing you it's really quiet out there. we just had one an lone shower for that has pretty much fallen apart in the south bay over the last hour. but we did have some drops on our camera around san jose that moved into willow glen, but those showers in the south bay they are over with. and today is going to be a day of sun and clouds. so here's a look at the visibility. we do have issues in the north bay with dense fog. a couple of areas stretching from santa rosa to napa to fairfield, less than a mile. so here's a look at your forecast today. early on, pockets of fog, a blend of sun and clouds, a dry afternoon with temps in the upper 50s to lower 60s. but rain is back here tomorrow morning. we'll detail our next storm coming up in six minutes, but let's see how we're doing on the roads with gloria. good morning. good morning. >> yeah. right now we want to tell you about a crash in sunnyvale that's impacting traffic there. so let's show you where this is at. this is over on the northbound side of 101 before fair oaks avenue. and this is a multi-car crash. we're

csu to fairly compensate its valued world class faculty while protecting the university system's long terme financial sustainability. nearly 30,000 union members will still have to vote to ratify this deal. that is expected to happen sometime within the next few weeks. live in hayward lena howland abc seven news thank you lena. >> today marks one year since a mass shooting in half moon bay left seven farmworkers dead and another injured. it's also the day that the suspect is set to be arraigned in court. yesterday the san mateo county da's office announced a grand jury had indicted the suspect. he is now being charged with seven counts of first degree murder and one count of attempted first degree murder. over the past year, farm workers in the half moon bay community have come together to heal some of them turning to music, and gloria was able to speak with some of those people. good morning kumasi farm workers impacted by the mass shooting in half moon bay. >> exactly one year ago today are taking a class that's helping them heal. i had a

chance to talk to those farm workers and see them play their instruments, and it was just so touching. so check this out. they're learning how to play the accordion, including the one person who survived the mass shooting and was injured. you could see him right there in december, the group performed for the community musician and san jose resident hernan hernandez teaches the class organized by the nonprofit alas, his dad is in the famous mexican band los tigres del norte. >> music has always been in our household, and so that was one of the things that he taught me at a young age. whatever you learn, whatever you take from this life, make sure you give it back. make sure you you teach the next ones. for me, it's really important that i give back sentimos muy bien. >> we felt good. it was the first time i'd been on a stage. it was very beautiful. >> half moon bay has established a committee to create a permanent memorial to honor the farm workers who died. ideas include a statue or a garden, but nothing has been decided

yet. the music program is funded through a grant from the silicon valley community foundation. meanwhile, a las and the latino community foundation are organizing a roundtable discussion today at noon. it's centered around advocating for farm workers, and there's also going to be a memorial service that's going on tonight at 6:00 in the evening. and that is open to the public. it's in half moon bay at las. and coming up at 7:00, i'll have a full story on this music program and how it's helping farm workers live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thank you. gloria thank you. and abc seven news reporter louis pink has spent days with farmworkers. shortly after the shooting in half moon bay, learning about their lives, their challenges and their hopes for the future. she highlights their challenges with housing and a special called hidden crisis tragedy in half moon bay. you can watch it on demand on abc seven news.com or on the abc seven bay area app. >> a big win for one

neighborhood in san francisco, an effort to keep a safeway store open longer has been successful. today the naacp and the japantown task force are hosting a rally outside the store. the safeway is on webster street at the border of the fillmore and western addition neighborhoods. it's the only safeway anywhere near there. originally, it was going to close in march for not meeting financial expectations, and now the store says it will be open until at least next january. mayor london breed made the announcement, saying on social media the agreement gives the city more time to figure out what's next for the site, including more housing and bringing a new grocery store. city leaders say moving forward, the community should be involved in the site's development. >> there's a lot of work to do to figure out what's going to happen at this site and make sure the community is involved, but first things first, we're all very relieved and pleased that we're not facing the closure of fillmore's only full service grocery store in march. >> it's not clear if the city provided any incentives to keep

the store open. abc seven reached out to the mayor's office for more info. we have not yet heard back. >> tackling homelessness in our neighborhoods is one of the most challenging and longestrillionunning issues here in the bay area. this morning we are finding new strategies in addressing the problem. san jose mayor matt mehan and other city leaders introduced a memo over the weekend to prevent encampments from returning to the guadalupe river trail. they want to preserve the progress made to clean up that public space. the memo would direct the city manager to implement a no return zone to prevent people from moving back to areas that have been cleared. >> it's hard to build public trust, get people back out using our trails, keep our river clean, keep our city economically vibrant. if we're just kind of chasing encampments around the city now. >> we told you yesterday on abc seven mornings about a new ordinance being considered today in san mateo county, that new ordinance, if it's approved,

would promote shelter here. and it penalizes penalizes illegal encampments, according to the county. anyone charged under this new ordinance would qualify for diversion programs to possibly avoid jail time. a rough start for a new restaurant in san francisco? >> take a look. several large planters were knocked down and destroyed. this is outside the new mediterranean restaurant alora, which is on the embarcadero at pier three. our media partners at the san francisco standard say the owners told them the vandalism happened before dawn yesterday morning. the planters were valued at roughly $10,000. they were meant to establish a boundary for a front patio. by the way, the restaurant is scheduled to open thursday. new at six. the winning bidder of san francisco's historic anchor brewing company is reportedly expected to be chosen by the end of this month, according to the chronicle. a spokesperson, sam singer says multi bids for anchors assets are under review. singer says they're would be
