the other top five counties reporting the most pedestrian fatalities that year are santa clara, with 35, contra costa with 20 and san francisco with 15. and that's the highest it's been since 2018. so what's being done about it? >> california has never prioritized pedestrian safety. >> state senator anthony portento wanted to change that. a year after chan's death, the governor signed his bill, sb 932, into law. it requires a county or city to identify high injury streets and intersections. in its general plan, and prioritize safety improvements to reduce collisions by 2025. >> we just need to, you know, hold cities more accountable. >> case in point, the city of alameda launched the vision zero action plan in an effort to try and eliminate traffic deaths and severe injuries by 2035. >> just over two years. we have the safety improvements have been installed at over 130 intersections throughout the city. >> some of the enhancements include new lighting, upgraded

crosswalk markings, and new program pedestrian intervals at 68 intersections that allow pedestrians to get a few second head start on a green light before vehicles in the last couple of years, about three quarters of our police department's traffic enforcement stops occurred on high injury corridors. the i-team reviewed the city's plan and found dozens of intersections labeled high injury for pedestrians, many of which are near hospitals, schools and parks. >> we've put a lot of effort into enforcement as state senator portentino points out, enhanced awareness leads to more accountability. >> our analysis found 21% of these fatalities happened during the day, but an overwhelming 79% happened during the night from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the i-team. stephanie sierra, abc seven news. >> still ahead tonight. it's a swashbuckling kind of weekend. we're taking you to a huge pirate festival that bills itself as the third largest parade in the country. >> i'm spencer christian, would

tonight, wearing a christian youth check designed jacket that's become all the rage of the internet. these days. one. this one. excuse me, a warriors niners combo. as for the game, an epic battle with the lakers that went to double overtime. in case you missed it right here on abc seven steph curry with the epic three pointer with 4.7 seconds to go. so you thought the warriors all they got to do is get a stop. but they couldn't because lebron james had time to work the lane with 4.7 seconds to go. drew the foul and then hit the game winning free throws to seal the deal. an epic battle between two of the all time greats. curry knew it was a great game and is already looking ahead towards the future. >> the challenge is to not let uh- the pain of it lasts until, like when we come back to practice, you know, and get ready for tuesday, we have to come with, you know, the same desperation and energy and competitiveness as, um, try to have a short memory, but but, you know, losing sucks. it's the worst feeling in the world. um

and until you get over the hump, you kind of have to just sit in it and that's where we're at. >> o'donnell. the warriors have have patented the art of the agonizing last second loss. and here we have it again. 145 144 in double overtime time to the lakers at some point you have to start winning these games. but what's your takeaway? i mean, steph was brilliant. 46 points. >> no i thought this was one of the warriors best game in a long time. and i think that everybody showed up tonight. they didn't quite finish the game the way it should have been, but i think that the way they played tonight is something you can build on moving forward. i really, really like the performance, the effort was unbelievable tonight. larry, so coach, we heard steve kerr after the game saying he thinks they're close and he's preaching positivity and that they're going to get this thing turned around. >> but the reality is they're they're five games under 500 and they're drifting in the wrong direction. from the coaching standpoint. how do you flip their this it's like a razor

thin margin between victory and defeat. a league leading 32 clutch games now 15 wins but 17 losses. >> how can you take maybe a third of those as we talked about, take six of those 17. and a lot is different where you're stand in the standings. when you're that close, you're talking about 1 or 2 possessions in a 48 minute or in this case, a 48 minute plus plus game. tonight you have to dig in and try to find a way to overcome that. maybe it's getting to the free throw line, maybe it's turning down a three to get it to two. but it's obviously going to have to start on the defensive end. if we can find a little bit of a way to turn up the defensive intensity and get one more or two more stops a game right now, that's making the difference for the warriors in terms of wins and losses. >> coach, remember when we used to joke about the houston rockets shooting 4050? their goal was 60 threes. the warriors attempted 59 tonight, making 23. is that the recipe for victory? >> no i mean as a big man it's quite frightening to see a team shooting 60 threes. and the coach is complaining about free throw.
11:56 pm
>> you got to go get some free throws by getting in there and making some layups. >> coach how many how many threes do you want to take. >> hey threes are better than twos. if they go in i'm simple math guy. but let's make sure the right guys are taking threes. majority steph a little bit of klay. maybe if you make when you take another one. but if you miss one let's get to the rim and get it too because that's a higher percentage shot. >> i love the analysis. they're good. if they go in. exactly. thank you coach o'donnell chris back to you. >> my favorite mathematician is out in moraga. randy bennett in saint mary's. and a tight one against lmu tied at 55. under three minutes to go joshua jefferson. that's a three. he had 15 points. and then augustus marcellinus he's just so good on this type of play. the layup and the foul. 25 points and six in the final three minutes. gaels win by five. they're seven and oh in the west coast conference. hockey now. afternoon time from the tank sabers and sharks. bouncing puck right here is going to end up on the tape of jan rutta, who throws it into the net. finds the back of it and it's two nothing sharks but
