quiet out there, and we're still hanging on to some mild air. you can see temperatures and a lot of cities starting out in the 50s. some cooler spots like santa rosa, danville in the upper 40s. but right now it's 57. in the city. today is one of and 70s by the afternoon. tomorrow though, it is stormy, particularly in the afternoon and the evening. a level three strong storm tomorrow with rain heavy at times and some strong damaging winds. we'll talk details coming up in six minutes. let's check in with gloria until the commutes going. >> yeah. you know, we want to update you on that crash that we told you about over at the altamont pass. now, this is still creating some delays there in tracy. so this is where it happened. this is a two car crash over on westbound 580 before grant line road. right

now it is blocking one lane and speeds are down to eight miles per hour. because of this. so this is impacting those commuters out of the central as your drive times for this morning, it's really going to take you a long time right now to get from tracy to dublin. an hour and 30 minutes. >> thank you gloria. developing news president biden is considering how to retaliate without causing wider conflict in the middle east after three american service members were killed in a mistaken the enemy drone for one of their own when it got past defenses. at least 34 others were injured in this attack. secretary of defense lloyd austin was first e since being hospitalized earlier this month. >> president and i will not tolerate an attack on us forces, and we will take all necessary actions to defend the us and our troops, according to u.s. officials, there have been at least 165 attacks on u.s. forces in that region since israel's

war with hamas broke out. >> all of them have been blamed on iran, backed militants. iran has denied any involvement. >> a beloved small business in the east bay robbed and now forced to close up shop. the bike shop rich city rides, has become a community staple, serving up weekend rides and events of all kinds for its neighbors that all change a few weeks ago, when store owner najari smith was surprised to find out the store was robbed of at least $10,000 in merch, the impact has been so big, smith says. the stores will. the store will have to close for the foreseeable future. he says this hurts on a different level because rich city rides is not a big box store. >> all the display emptied out all of the inventory that we had on the wall, all the bicycle products, the lights, locks, you know, different accessories, all of that stuff was gone. >> despite the setback, smith says he would like to reopen the shop hopefully by next year. he says he's still committed to operating a bike shop in

richmond. >> the san mateo county sheriff's office says a third body has been found after a small plane crash off the coast of half moon bay earlier this month. the body was found in the water near the location of where the plane went down last week. the coroner's office identified a second body found as 26 year old cassidy ray pettit of oakland. the third victim hasn't been identified yet. investigators are searching for a fourth victim, believed to have also been on that plane. police arrested five men in connection to the six bodies found in a remote desert area in san bernardino county. >> we first brought you the story last week. now, investigators believe a dispute over marijuana led to those murders. gloria at the live desk with what we know, reggie. >> the six victims were found shot to death in the middle of the desert, nearly one week ago. the san be county sheriff's office is at. four of the bodies were found burned. investigators say the 911 call came in to request a welfare who called was one of the

victims dispatchers received a 911 call from a subject who spoke spanish, the caller told dispatchers he was shot, but he did not know the location he was at and it appeared the call ended. >> dispatcher tracked the phone via latitude and longitude coordinates to a remote area. we are confident that to be a dispute over marijuana, which resulted in the murders. >> detectives say the sus the victims were all likely involved in organized crime. all five suspects are now being held without bail. investigators have not yet determined if the suspects are involved with drug cartels. kumasi >> thank you gloria. big explosions near a sikh temple in sacramento county were caused by propane tanks, according to local fire officials. the fire that followed burned at least two cars and badly damaged a nearby building yesterday afternoon. the temple itself wae reported. >> today, we'll get a better idea of how much snow we've seen so far and what that means for our local environment. abc seven

news reporter lena howland is here with some of the changes we can expect, lena. >> reggie. today will be the second state snowpack reading of the season, and already experts are expecting to see some promising changes, boosted by a number of big storms over the past month during the state's snowpack. first measurement back on january 2nd, it was just 25% of normal. we are getting a clue of what we could see today put d now we've even with more winter storms on the way this week. later on this morning, officials from the state department of water resources will head to phillips station near the sierra at tahoe ski resort for the official snowpack reading. it's a key indicator of the health of the entire snowpack, which provides nearly a third of the state's water supply. today's snowpack reading is expected lia howland, abc seven news thank

by the time our abc seven news crew got there, police say they got a call about the graffiti near pierce park on sunday night . it had been spray painted in white paint. it was about 15in long. a public works crew removed it. police say there's been an alarming rise in hate crimes at schools in america. according to a new report from the fbi. 1 in 10 hate crimes in the u.s. takes place at school, making schools the third most common location after streets and residences, the report. the number of hate crimes at schools nearly doubled in five years, from 700in 2018 to moreased a reports

at schools. we are two months into a three month ban on street vendors in san francisco's mission district, all in an effort to target unpermitted vendors who are selling stolen items. now, businesses in the ff economic and workforce development, 56% of businesses feel mission street is safer, 67% have seen a positive change. the city leased two properties to give permitted vendors a space to sell during the ban. at one of them that had space for 40 vendors, only two are there now. one man says he makes around 30 to $40 a day, and he's now two months behind in rent. >> they'll tell me, when do you pay? or i don't know. i sa up? t know. >> the ban is in effect until february 27th. supervisor hillary ronen, who is a supervisor for the mission, says that she will likely want the ban to continue. but the mayor's office will make that final

decision. the state is requiring cities across california to cut red tape and speed up construction to create millions of new homes. by the end of the decade. tomorrow is a major deadline in that process. here in the bay area, but a number of local cities may miss it. so if they miss the deadline, cities and communities may lose state funding eligibility and developers could be able to bypass local zoning laws, among other things, the housing need in california is still really great, andat cities and counties hold to their commitments that they're making to their own community,sg built. about 20 jurisdic tions still need to adopt a state approved housing plan by the deadline tomorrow. >> a men's college basketball team got an unexpected assist to try to help them come away with a win. you have to watch this. okay so it looks like a regular basketball game, but look what's happening above holy cross in massachusetts tried to distract an opposing player's free throw by running across in their speedos and goggles and swim

throughout the afternoon, but temperatures still above average in the 60s and 70s for daytime highs. but tomorrow in the afternoon the evening it is stormy. a level three, a strong storm here with rain, heavy atge are anticipating areas of flooding and also wind damage because of the combo of the rain and the wind. here's future weather tomorrow morning's commute looks pretty uneventful. we may have some light showers in the north bay, but for a lot of us it's just mostly cloudy. it's the afternoon. the rain begins to move onshore for most of us, and as we head into the evening, weather that is intense rainfall . and that's the period where we could see pockets of flooding developing and also the time of strongest winds. looking at rainfall totals, a good estimate for most of us around the bay shoreline. 1 to 2in, certainly higher in the north bay. some areas in our coastal ranges of sonoma county could exceed five

inches of rain, so we could have some issues, not only with pockets of flooding, but also shallow landslides. much of the region has been outlined for the excessive rain potential. wednesday into thursday. because our ground is saturated, and so this heavy rain is going to cause issues. also, winds will turn gusty first along the coast in the morning and then into the afternoon. in the evenings in es certainly going to take trees down and also cause power outages. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. cloudy, but still mild today. heavy rain and strong winds in the evening. it's a level three on the storm impact scale. the worst of the storm is out oother system comes here on sunday. gloria. yeah, you know, we're still seeing some major delays right now in tracy because of a crash. >> so let's show you exactly where that is. this is a two car crash over on westbound 580 before grant line road in the altamont pass.ow, speeds are down to 40mph for at least one of the lanes there is blocked. so that's really impacting drivers in that area. and you can see it is pretty

bring thousands of new homes, but not everybody is buying in, at least not yet. the development takes over chevron's san ramon office campus, which is off bollinger canyon road. sunset development is drafting plans to build 2600 homes, apartments and condos on the 92 acre parcel. the plans also include a new retail center, a new park and a 3500 seat amphitheater. the developer doesn't foresee any major problems. >> one of the nice things about taking a big office campus like that down and delivering homes is they use less water, less powere' people don't come and go at one time like they do with 1,000,000.5ft■!s of office. >> some residents, we spoke with acknowledged the upside, but they're not convinced there will be less traffic. they're also concerned about the esthetics, the future for a swim will be discussed now at a city council meeting today. the city of santa clara recently closed the haines international swim center

now end its trip in denver. >> happening today oakland police will give us an update on the death of retired police officer kevin ashida. he was working as a guard for a local tv news crew when he was shot in 2021, in downtown oakland. abc seven news reporter lena howland joins us now in studio to update us on this case. lena >> reggie, police haven't released much information about today's update, but we are expecting to get some kind of new information from oakland police on this case in just a few more hours. this comes after a third suspect in the death of security guard kevin nishida wak force, kansas city police, and missouri state highway patrol.
