>> we begin with a deadly building collapse. the building was under construction on the grounds of an airport overnight. >> police were combing the scene for clues as to what could have happened. this morning. authorities are investigating what caused a building under construction to suddenly collapse at the airport in boise, idaho, killing three people and injuring at least nine others. >> i currently have three people trapped in elevated in the g. two of those are currently unresponsive. the structure being built was an airplane hangar. >> authorities say a crane was placing something on the steel framework when it collapsed. >> i can tell you that it was a pretty global collapse that occurred in the main structural members came down. it was fairly catastrophic. >> a man who works at the airport says at the time he was recording planes landing in gusty winds. the structure and the crane seen in this video minutes before the collapse. investigators overnight said it's unclear exactly what caused

the hangar to come crashing down . an airport spokesperson says while the hangar is on airport property, it was being built by a private company, which says dozens of workers were on site, adding their hearts go out to everyone affected by this horrific event. at least five of those victims were in critical condition overnight. >> a new warning about u.s. national security and the danger posed by china. the fbi director told congress yesterday that china is. looking to wreak havoc by using cyber attacks to target u.s. water and power systems, and that's not all he's warning about. abc's andrea fujii has more. >> china's multi-pronged assault on our national and economic security. make it the defining threat of our generation. >> a stark new warning from u.s. intelligence leaders about the cyber threat posed by china. >> let's be clear. cyber threats to our critical infrastructure future represent real world threats to our physical safety,

fbi director christopher wray and other officials warning lawmakers that the country's transportation system, water treatment plants and electrical grids are vulnerable to hackers working on behalf of the chinese government. >> telecommunications going down so people can't use their cell phone. people start getting sick from polluted water. trains get derailed, and air traffic control system port control systems are malfunctioning. this is truly an everything. every aware, all at once scenario. >> the justice department has revealed itrillionecently dismantled a chinese hacking group called vault typhoon that hijack hundreds of home and small business routers to target infrastructure. the former white house cyber response chief jeff green says china is looking to create chaos. >> the goal of these intrusions is largely to create that societal panic, and we need to make sure that we are prepared not to panic. we take the power away from our adversaries when

missile came within a mile of the uss gravely, the closest encounter since the rebels began the attacks in october. in support of hamas's war against israel. meanwhile, the white house is blaming an umbrella group of iranian backed fighters in iraq for the drone attack that killed three u.s. soldiers in jordan sunday. the looming u.s. response could play out over a period of weeks, targeting iranian assets in neighboring countries. a big decision on capitol hill affecting your taxes. >> in a rare moment of bipartisanship, democrats joined republicans as the house passed a $78 billion tax bill last night. it would give low income families about $700 in child tax benefits, and it would restore some tax breaks for businesses, including full deductions for things like new equipment. but the bill still needs to pass the senate, where it faces an uncertain future. >> the ceos of tiktok insta gram and other big tech companies were grilled on capitol hill, accused of not doing enough to protect the mental health of

kids on social media. families who lost children to suicide were among those in the audience. apologies were made, but will it lead to any new laws in the face of powerful lobbying groups? abc's em nguyen is here now with more am. good morning rhiannon. >> good morning. yes, senators compare the tech companies to big tobacco, claiming they prioritize profits over the well-being of children. you have a product. >> you have a product that's killing people. reporter. >> the senate judiciary committee yesterday accused the chief executives of meta x, tiktok, snap and discord of failing to protect kids who use their platforms. grieving families packed the hearing room, holding up images of their children they say took their own lives because of abuse on social media. >> mr. zuckerberg, you and the companies before us, i know you don't mean it to be so, but you have blood on your hands. >> meta. ceo mark zuckerberg was especially singled out. senator

josh hawley called on the facebook founder to directly apologize to the families, show him the pictures. >> would you like to apologize for what you've done to these good people. that you go through the things that your families have have suffered. >> and this is why we invested so much and are going to continue doing industry leading efforts to make sure that. no one has to go through the types of things that your families have had to suffer. >> evan spiegel, the chief executive of snap, also apologized after lawmakers pressed him on the issue of drugs being sold on snapchat. >> but i'm so sorry that we have not been able to prevent these tragedies, the executives emphasized. >> they're parents themselves and they highlighted new tools on their platforms that protect kids from illegal content. >> a commitment is ongoing and unwavering because there is no finish line when it comes to protecting teens, according to a meta spokesperson.

>> the company in recent months removed 90,000 accounts for potentially suspicious behavior and disabled more than 2.6 million accounts for violating the company's child sexual exploitation policies. the senate committee says it hopes the hearing will build momentum for legislation aimed at boosting privacy and parental controls. all the executives support that legislation. >> only two of the five executives the ceos of x, formerly known as twitter and snap, are promising to support by partizan legislation that would make these companies more liable for harmful content on their platforms, notably mark zuckerberg and the ceo of tiktok did not. >> zuckerberg said a law requiring social media platforms to check the age of users would be trivial. instead he said that responsibility should fall on app store providers such as apple and google. congress has been trying to regulate social media for years, but is yet to pass a law. andrew

morning america. >> an unusual encounter in florida. they look like grizzlies, but a pair of kodiak bear cubs native to alaska, were calmly approaching cars in the florida panhandle. they grow bigger than grizzlies. it turns out they had escaped from the home of a local bear trainer. >> just a little curious. they're alec baldwin has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting on the rust movie set. his plea avoids an arraignment that was scheduled for today. meanwhile new details about the film's weapon supervisor also

facing involuntary manslaughter and other charges. court documents show members of the rust crew were concerned about hannah gutierrez, reed's alleged drug and alcohol use during filming, prosecutor say evidence shows reed brought live rounds onto the set when she first began working on the movie. that is a claim she has denied now to the trial of a michigan mother whose son was behind a deadly school shooting in 2021. >> the case against her, now centering on text messages revealed in court, provides new evidence in the trial of jennifer crumbley. she's charged with involuntary manslaughter, accused of disregarding the risks posed by her son ethan, before he fatally shot four students at his michigan high school. body camera video played in court shows authorities storming a detroit warehouse where crumbley and ethan's father were allegedly hiding. police with guns drawn found the crumbleys apparently asleep with more than $6,000 in cash. >> i see two people laying on a mattress. um, if i'm not mistaken, they're facing each other. >> jurors also heard yesterday

from a man first identified as jennifer crumbley's high school friend, brian morlock. during questioning, it was revealed he and crumbley had been having an affair. malloch saying on the morning of the shooting, jennifer texted him, worried her son was going to do something dumb. he also testified crumbley was able to leave work to meet with him on the day of the shooting, despite crumbley allegedly telling the school that she could not take her son home for mental health care because she was needed at work. >> did she ever tell you, um, that she didn't have to be at a meeting later in the day? on november the 30th, 2021? no. in fact, she was able to leave work to meet you when it pleased her. yes >> prosecutors say other text messages revealed jennifer crumbley wrote the shooting could have been prevented, but the defense argues she wasn't aware how much her son was struggling and says the school could have done more to help him. another text message reveals. crumbley said i failed as a parent. i failed miserably. she could take the stand before the end of the trial. >> coming up, there's a new
