question when we get some thunderstorms, because the front moved through here late last night in the wake of that front, you see more discrete cells kind of popping up behind it. so what we're looking at as we go throughout the day today is pop up showers. if a thunderstorm does develop, we could see some hail, some lightning, or even hear some thunder. so the flood advisory in effect, there's still a lot of standing water in parts of the north bay. this includes marin county, parts of sonoma and napa county. just be aware it's dark right now. it's hard to see where that water is pooling, so take it easy when you drive on those roads this morning, it's a level one for scattered showers. possibility of thunderstorms, and rough surf along the coastline. so today it's a mix of sun and clouds, scattered showers throughout the afternoon get the temperatures in the 50s and 60s. let's see how we're doing on those roads with gloria. good morning. >> good morning. yeah. if you are driving today you want to leave a little bit earlier in case we do get that rain. i know when i drove in, it was just kind of sprinkling and then it started picking up a little more heavily. so let's get a live look outside right now at our south beach camera. and right

now a big rig hydroplaned over on westbound 80 at fremont street. so there might be some delays in that area. chp did block off the exit there because of that, so keep that in mind if you drive in the area and you could see that traffic is starting to build here now, a look at your drive times for this morning. so far, just our usual slow spot that's on 580 westbound from tracy to castro valley. that will take you 42 minutes on 101 northbound from highway 85 to the san jose airport. that will take you 11 minutes. and then on 280 northbound from highway one to san francisco. that will take you ten minutes, but we cannot stress enough. just be careful out there on the roads this morning because of the rain out there. >> gloria. thank you. if you want real time updates on the storm as you head out the door, you can get them by scanning the qr code that just appeared in the bottom of your screen. the heavy rain is creating problems in the north bay sonoma county dealing with road flooding and at least one school closure today. this is on mark west springs road, which is near windsor. we saw cars driving

through all that water overnight, which is a very risky maneuver. the sonoma county office of education says kashaya elementary will be closed today because of a power outage and other storm related impacts. the rain leaving a mess across the bay area in some cases causing a safety hazard and property damage like this massive tree that came down in daly city. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live on the peninsula with a look at some of the issues left behind by the wet weather. hi, lena. >> hey, reggie. good morning to you. we are live right now in san mateo, where we're seeing some sprinkles come down. and drivers definitely have a little bit of a slower go around out here this morning. but i want to get right out to some new video showing a massive tree which crashed into a two story apartment building. this video was taken right around 1030 last night off of king road in daly city. it shows that the tree crashed through a fence first and then into the building, still blocking a road inside of the complex. the apartment

maintenance team says that luckily there were no injuries and only exterior damage has been reported. this tree came down as the area was already experiencing heavy rain and gusty winds up in sonoma county, firefighters were kept extremely busy last night. they had to rescue someone from their car that was taking on water near mark west station road at starr road, fire fighters say the driver was unable to get out on their own using this as an importantrillioneminder to everyone to not risk it if water is flowing over the road and instead turn around and find another route as far as that downed tree goes in daly city, the apartment maintenance team tells us that they are planning to get that removed sometime later on this morning. live in san mateo. lena howland abc seven news. thank you lena. >> now, whenever there are storms, there's a potential for impact at our bay area airports. so if you are getting ready to travel, there are more than 20 delays and five cancellations at sfo this morning. here is a live

look from the airport right now. flight tracking website flightaware reported nearly 200 delays at sfo yesterday because of the wind and rain now across the bay. oakland international airport has five delays because of the weather, and there are zero cancellations and here is a live look at mineta, san jose international airport, where we're seeing three delays and four cancellations. >> estate agencies across california continue to round up resources as we face this new round of storms. the governor's office of emergency services gave an update on its efforts yesterday. cal was leaning in and being very proactive to do everything we can do to prepare for these storms on the front end. state. that includes opening a state operations center run by cal oes staff, helped coordinate the state response with local agencies in communities that are impacted. the department of water resources also ready to respond. they've pre-positioned flood fighting materials in 64

locations across the state. flood fight specialists are standing by for deployment if needed. so our units with the california army national guard, cal oes, is doing outreach with unhoused residents across the state, making sure they have shelter away from flood prone areas. >> and check out this water rushing through the oroville dam's primary spillway. the california department of water resources planned this release. it's meant to help with flood prevention, protecting neighboring communities downstream. the water is rushing into the feather river, the agency says. the lake is currently at 76% capacity. >> we are tracking the storm with live doppler seven and you can two again. there's that qr code on your screen. if you take if you use your camera on your phone, it will take you to our website, abc seven news.com, where you can stream live doppler seven. you can bookmark that page so you have it anytime it rains. >> new details on a really scary situation along a san francisco freeway, a chp officer shot a person who was walking on interstate 280. it happened

right near mariposa street just before. 5 p.m. all southbound lanes of the freeway had to be closed for nearly five hours. for that investigation, chp says. an officer responded to a report of a pedestrian on the freeway, and that officer said that that person had a knife in his pocket. chp confirms an officer shot a person after a struggle. neighbors say unhoused people live along that freeway where the shooting happened. >> so there's these drainage pipes that like, empty out there. and those drainage pipes are pretty large and there are homeless that live within like there are like homeless inside those drainage pipes. >> the officer was not hurt. the person shot is expected to survive. and you can see from that video last night we got hitrillioneally hard with heavy rain. >> we picked up 1 to 3in of rain and that caused a lot of pockets of flooding on our roads. in our smaller streams and creeks. this morning we're still tracking scattered showers, some isolated downpours. live look from the exploratory camera. we do have

gloria. how did this happen? yeah reggie, this is just terrifying. >> the girl apparently started slipping on the chairlift as it started taking off. this was last saturday morning, and you could see cell phone video. it shows her dangling from that chairlift. other riders began holding on to her, desperately trying to get help. >> everyone was yelling, chanting together to stop the lift, but i could see almost immediately as it left the loading station. um, like at that point, the person was already starting to fall off. workers at the ski resort set up a net below the teen. >> it split it as she hit it, but it did break her fall. she was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and her condition has not been released. the incident happened just a week after woman was trapped overnight in a gondola at heavenly mountain resort in lake tahoe. she was trapped in freezing temperatures for 15 hours before being rescued.

>> kumasi thank you, gloria. ntsb investigators are expected to release a preliminary report on the door plug that blew out of a boeing 737 max nine plane last month. this is coming as the max nine model is back in the air after the faa gave approval for airlines to resume operating the fleet after inspections. now though, we're hearing from a former boeing manager amid all these safety concerns surrounding the plane, ed pearson, who's now executive director of the aviation watchdog group foundation for aviation safety, says he would quote, absolutely not fly a max airplane, end quote. he claims there's a quality control issue at his former employer. >> you know, there have been supply chain issues. there's been issues with removal of quality control inspections. if you can believe that even in light of the two crashes. so these things are all warning bells and, you know, we were hoping that this alaska accident , it traumatic, you know, accident, you know, because these people were traumatized. we would hoping that they would

it more resilient and to not get that mid-span damage. we've seen in the past couple of storms. >> this particular project costs $8 million. it is expected to be completed by fall, but then we have the storms we had. yeah and then another one coming in this weekend. yeah. >> on sunday we got hit really hard yesterday. winds in excess of 40mph. several inches of rain. and now we're tracking more scattered showers today and even more rain into the weekend. looking at your 24 hour rainfall, you can see san francisco closing in on two two inches of rain, nearly an inch in san jose and oakland, santa rosa, more than two inches, mount tam, van loman in the santa cruz mountains are higher peaks, closing in on four inches of rain. now live doppler seven showing you we're not done with the rain by any means. it's just not as widespread as it was late last night. we have scattered showers moving through. you look off the coast of mendocino county right there. you can see some lightning is developing. we're going to watch these cells here for the potential of lightning. even if we don't see a thunderstorm, we'll still have some periods of heavy rain as these cells cross through. but

we had numerous storm reports overnight when heavy rain came through. and those gusty winds. just to give you an example of what we're dealing with this morning, one of the storm reports out of san jose roadway flooding exit lane flooded at 2.8 north and burt avenue off ramp. that's what you're looking at. that water is kind of standing in areas. it can sneak up on you in the dark. this morning, so drive a little bit slower this morning as we do have more water on the way. a level one today. scattered showers, thunderstorms are possible. rough surf along our coast. that's another issue. we're tracking today. so until 3 p.m. we have those high waves. could see breakers up to 26ft along our coastline now. future weather today and tomorrow. the showers are scattered, but that rainfall can add up. some areas where you see those downpours could get close to three quarters of an inch of additional rainfall through today, and tomorrow. we still have a winter storm warning in effect for the sierra. still looking at the potential for up to three feet on our highest peaks, let's talk our next atmospheric river. future

this stream of moisture that has just been overhead. and we're behind the front. now, what that means we have a lot of these more isolated discrete cells popping up, and that will lead to some scattered downpours throughout the afternoon, and even the potential for a thunderstorm of thunderstorm does pop up. we could see some lightning here, some thunder, even see some hail. we're at a level one today because the rain is not as widespread as it was last night, nor nearly as heavy. but if you get underneath one of these downpours for a minute or two, you could experience heavy rain. we also have rough surf along the coast. our flood watch continues until tomorrow, meaning everything is saturated. additional rainfall could cause some problems, and i think our local roads are our biggest concern for more standing water as the day goes on. so here's future weather gets into the afternoon temps only in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. close to average. there you can see throughout the evening we will have those isolated showers. so keep the umbrella with you all day today. you may need it from time to time. we're tracking another atmospheric river for part of the weekend. we'll show you that on the seven

de as heavy as yesterday. rough surf along the coast and a thunderstorm is possible. here's the high surf advisory waves up to 26ft are possible along our coastline. additional rainfall today and tomorrow where we see those downpours not out of the question to see up to a third of an inch. maybe two thirds of an inch of rain over the next 48 hours. snow still impacting the sierra winter storm warning in effect until saturday morning. again, our highest peaks could see three feet of snow now showers in the forecast today and tomorrow. some morning shower saturday and now we're tracking another impactful storm on sunday. like the heavy rain and wind for sunday afternoon and sunday evening. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. be aware the scattered showers today and tomorrow. a brief break in the action saturday, then heavy rain and some gusty winds on sunday. it is a level two on the storm impact scale. gloria. yeah you know it's a pretty sloppy commute this morning because of the rain. >> we're getting a lot of reports about spinouts, roadway flooding. so be very careful out there on the roads this morning. you can see our map right now that shows you the overall roads

here in the bay area. and if you remember from earlier, we were seeing more green. now we're starting to see more red and more yellow, which means there are some slowdowns in different areas. and again, because of those reports of spinouts, roadway flooding, other issues, we do have a big issue that we want to tell you about. there's a big rig that hydroplane. this is over on westbound 80 at fremont street. and you could see the red there, which means the traffic is moving very slowly right there. speeds are down to 27mph. because of this. and right now, the backup is to the toll plaza chp has blocked off the exit right there at westbound 80 at fremont street while they, uh, you know, go ahead and clean this up and let's get a live look outside right now at our bay bridge toll plaza camera. the metering lights flipped on at 525 this morning, but you could see the traffic is moving very slowly here. even the carpool lanes, which usually go pretty quickly, are moving pretty slowly. so we'll keep monitoring these issues for you this morning, guys. >> thanks, gloria. new at six a
