the peninsula with a look at some of the issues left behind by all this wet weather. hi lena . >> hey, reggie. we're in san mateo, where the rain is definitely coming down on us at this hour. and it's making for a pretty slow commute for drivers. all over the peninsula this morning. i do want to get right out to some video showing a massive tree which crashed into a two story apartment building in daly city. this video was taken right around 1030 last night off of king road. it shows that the tree crashed through a fence first and then into the building, still blocking the road inside of the complex. the apartment maintenance team tells us that luckily there were no injuries and only exterior damage has been reported, and this tree came down as the area was already experiencing heavy rain and gusty winds. up in sonoma county, firefighters were kept extremely busy last night as well. they had to rescue someone from their car that was taking on water near marquise station road. at starr road, firefighters say the driver was unable to get out on their own

using this as an importantrillioneminder to everyone to not risk it. if water is flowing over the road and instead turn around and find another route. now as far as that downed tree goes in daly city, the apartment maintenance team tells us they plan to get it removed sometime later on this morning. live in san mateo. lena howland abc seven news thank you lena, if you are getting ready to travel, there are 20 delays and five cancellations at sfo. >> we want to take a live look out there right now. flight tracking website flightaware reported nearly 200 delays right here at sfo yesterday because of the wind in the rain. now across the bay, oakland international airport has six delays, mainly because of weather, zero cancellation. as we take a live look out there. then in san jose at san jose, minetta international airport, we're seeing five delays for cancellations. this is a live picture of the airfield state agencies across california continue to round up resources

as we face this. >> this storm and the next round of storms. the governor's office of emergency services gave an update on its efforts yesterday. >> california's leaning in and being very proactive to do everything we can do to prepare for these storms on the front end. >> that includes opening a state operations center run by cal oes staff, helped coordinate the state response with local agencies and communities that are impacted. the department of water resources is ready to respond to flooding. they've pre-positioned flood fighting materials in 64 locations statewide. flood fight specialists are standing by for deployment. if they're needed. so our units with the california army national guard, cal oes, is doing outreach with unhoused residents across the state, making sure they have shelter away from flood prone areas. >> check out this water rushing through the oroville dams primary spillway. the california department of water resources planned this release. it's meant to help with flood prevention in protecting neighboring

could see this cell phone video right here, and it shows her dangling from from the chairlift. now, other riders began holding on to her desperately trying to get help. >> everyone was yelling, chanting together to stop the lift, but i could see almost immediately as it left the loading station. um, like at that point, the person was already starting to fall off. workers at the ski resort set up by net below the teen. >> it split as she hit it, but it did break her fall and she was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. her condition has not been released yet. the incident happened just a week after a woman was trapped overnight in a gondola at heavenly mountain resort in lake tahoe. she was trapped in freezing temperatures for 15 hours before being rescued. >> kumasi thank you, gloria. ntsb investigators are finalizing a preliminary report on that door plug that blew out of a boeing 737 max nine plane last month. it comes as the max

nine model is back in the air after the faa gave approval for airlines to resume operating that fleet after inspections. now we're hearing from a former boeing manager amid all the safety concerns surrounding that plane, ed pearson, who's executive director now of the aviation watchdog group foundation for aviation safety, says he would, quote, absolutely not fly a max airplane, end quote, that includes not just the max nine, but the max eight, which he says have other issues as well. he claims there's a quality control issue at his former employer. >> there have been supply chain issues. there's been issues with removal of quality control inspections. if you can believe that even in light of the two crashes. so these things are all warning bells and, and you know, we're we were hoping that this alaska accident it traumatic, you know, accident, you know, because these people were traumatized. we would hoping that they would stop and really do a thorough assessment of what is wrong and what do they need to do to fix it. and really, the

opposite occurred as we expected . they just patched it up and said everything's good. and it's not you can watch interviews like this one every weekday getting answers airs at 3 p.m. right here on abc seven and wherever you stream, we're getting a closer look at how the homeless point in time count is conducted. >> it's happening in cities across the country right now. abc seven news reporter lyanne melendez went out with volunteers in san francisco's tenderloin district. here for the count ran from 8 p.m. to midnight because that's when people are settling in for the night. the volunteers do site inspections and oftentimes offer resources. they jot down if the person is homeless, suspected to be homeless, or if there's just no one on that street. people in cars and city shelters are all counted. although it's important to know the numbers won't be entirely accurate. for example, as volunteers walk by a closed tent, they don't know how many people are in that tent. they automatically count it as one.

an individual. >> how should people approach the unhoused tonight? >> no different than you would approach someone if you were walking up the front stairs of their home. >> so this is their home? >> yeah. there's no such thing as encampments. those are for yosemite. these are dwellings. >> the purpose of this nationwide count is to determine if the number of homeless people is going up or down, and the results, the results will impact services and federal dollars. >> the state of california will pay $2 billion to make remote learning more accessible. this announcement is coming after a lawsuit filed by the families of 14 students of color from oakland and los angeles. they accused the state board of education of failing to provide needed equipment to low income students when schools went to remote learning at the beginning of the pandemic, many students ended up falling behind their wealthier classmates. according to this lawsuit, the money will come from unspent block grants and districts will need to come

have numerous storm reports from overnight. >> more than 60. and you can see most of these are because of water on our roadways. please just be aware of that because we have more water coming down right now. live doppler seven. we have some isolated downpours out to press a little bit tighter. we just had this downpour move over coma on its way to bayshore and into the bayview. over the next 15 minutes, some heavier rain working through the inner and outer richmond on its way into the marina. so you get the picture where we have some of these showers. they are heavy at times. we're keeping it at a level one today because those showers will stick with us throughout the afternoon. there's the chance of a thunderstorm popping up. if one does, we could see some hail and rough surf on our coast. here's the high surf advisory. this until today. 3 p.m. waves up to 26ft are possible now looking at additional rainfall. this is today and tomorrow we have scattered showers in the forecast for the rest of the week. we could see some areas pick up an additional half of an inch of rain through tomorrow evening. now today it's a limited sunshine here and there.

severe weather campaign to gather resources for the unhoused. a worker at the ritter center says they work closely with marin county officials and collect donations from the community to make it all happen. giving them some opportunities to pick up tents, mylar blanket kits, clothing, tarps, all of those things you'd be miserable without them. >> and for some people, it could be life and death. you know, if you'd like to donate to the center's campaign, you can do so through february 13th. >> officials in the south bay are encouraging everyone to stay ready during this stormy weather . here's images from saratoga yesterday where a redwood tree fell on a truck, trapping a girl inside. her dad was inside their home getting something before they drove to school. she was hurt but is expected to be okay. the national weather service was reporting 30 to 60 mile per hour gusts at the time. officials say the cause could have been those high winds and the saturated soil. >> we're expecting to see
