scattered downpours. thunder and lightning is possible. we also have some rough surf along our coastline that advisory along our coast has expired, but the waves are still pretty active. so future weather as we go, hour by hour, we'll just be in and out of the showers throughout the afternoon and the evening. but we are tracking a strong storm over the weekend. an atmospheric river is set to soak us once again. we'll detail that in eight minutes, but let's check in with gloria and see how the commute is going on. this friday. yeah. >> you know, so far things are looking pretty good out there on the roads this morning. we have this overall map that we want to show you. and you see mostly green, which is really good news for us. that means no major slowdowns in the area right now. no major incidents. i know yesterday we did have a lot of incidents because of the water on the roads, so we'll keep monitoring that for you throughout the morning. and then if you look at your drive times for this morning, so far from highway four to the toll plaza, that will take you 91 minutes and our live cameron emeryville shows that traffic is starting to build there a little bit slow, but nothing out of the ordinary for the morning

commute. reggie, thanks, gloria. >> wild weather in the north bay, including a possible tornado. look at this. a funnel cloud was reported in sonoma county about 15 minutes west of petaluma. matthew beat took this video. he says he works nearby and spotted the funnel cloud just after 11:00 yesterday near the town of two rock. >> i lived in texas for about 20 years, so i'd seen plenty before, so i just grabbed my phone and started recording totally surprised. >> yeah, it did look fake and it looked very, very convincing. >> it was like the wizard of oz people we talked to say they saw the video being shared on social media. >> beat says it lasted about two minutes and the funnel passed over some ranches, but he didn't see it do any damage. if it touched the ground, that would that would be considered a tornado. so we're waiting for an update from the national weather service to confirm. with more rain on the way this weekend, rescue crews are training to respond to flood emergencies. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live in the north bay. and lena, we've already seen crews rescue driver drivers who thought they could make

groups is condemning recent acts of anti-indian government vandalism in the east bay. >> members of the sick community held a news conference yesterday denouncing the vandalism. they say it contained pro sick separatist language. the separatist movement is seeking to create a homeland for six in northern india. the first attack happened at a hindu temple in newark in december. the second two weeks later at a hindu temple in hayward on behalf of the community and the tri city area. >> i want to really extend my words of appreciation for coming out in unity against the acts of vandalism, members of south asian community groups, as well as local mayors and police personnel attended the event and echoed the call for peace and unity. >> tesla is settling a lawsuit with 25 california counties that accused the company of illegally dumping hazardous waste. a judge

has ordered tesla to pay $1.5 million. this dumping allegedly happened at its service centers, energy centers and its fremont factory, eight bay area counties are involved in this settlement. the investigation started back in 2018, when investigators with the san francisco county district attorney's office conducted undercover inspections in the east bay. >> new findings in the toxic release of metals from the martinez refining company, the refineries oversight committee gave an update yesterday. an independent investigation is trying to find the root cause of the refineries release in november of 2022. the release covered cars and streets in ash. investigators cited inadequate safeguards and found that an employee at the refinery that day was working more than 20 hours. we find that blaming the worker is not the appropriate action. >> instead, um, our recommendation focuses on the way that refinery leadership should manage their fatigue management program. um, and the

program itself, and needed to be upgraded. >> next steps include the release of a risk assessment report on february 22nd, and a 45 day public comment period. okay, now we're going to go back to the north bay. that's where lena howland is looking at some of the flood emergencies that have been happening there, and some of the training that they're doing to try and rescue folks who need it. >> hey, reggie. that's right. good morning to you. we are live in sonoma county now where we do have a little bit of a break in the rain. and this is a time frame when county officials are encouraging folks to really take advantage of more than a dozen free sandbag stations that they have set up all over the county. and it's a time frame when county officials from the fire department are also using to prepare for more rain. take a look at this here in the north bay in sonoma county, fire crews are using any slight break in the rain to prepare for the possibility of more water rescue . their swift water rescue team

trains 5 to 6 times a year, which we got to see them getting ready for yesterday in high water. this training is pivotal after they had to put their training into practice to rescue someone who tried driving through high water on wednesday, around this time last year, the team was deployed to at least 12 rescues. you know, right now, as it's the calm after the storm, right? >> so people think it's no big deal. they can pass through these areas. >> thank god for the rescues. >> but yeah, i would never ever push it. i mean, if i can see if i can't see the yellow lines through the water, i don't do it. >> as more rain is on the way, crews are constantly monitoring the russian river water levels. the break in the rain allowed more water to be released into the ocean, and water levels started to recede a bit. however, their soils are still very saturated. remember there are more than a dozen free sandbag stations set up all over

sonoma county, right now. the sand and the bags are free. however, you might have to bring your own shovel for now. reporting live in sonoma county lena howland abc seven news thank you, lena, we're tracking live doppler seven this morning because we are still under scattered showers. >> some isolated downpours. we remain unsettled today. it is a level one, so for the morning commute you may encounter a shower. here or there. as you see, temperatures on the chilly side, you definitely want the heavier coat. this morning a lot of us starting out in the 40s, and you can see we have a couple of chances throughout the morning of some scattered showers. you'll get some periods of dry weather as well and into the afternoon we have the chance of some thunderstorms today. it is a level one for those scattered downpours, thunder and lightning possible like we experienced in some areas yesterday. we had it along the coastline we had in parts of daly city. even parts of the east bay. rough surf two along our coastline. so today is just one of those days. keep the umbrella with you. you may need it as some of these showers pop up over you. just a cooler day today. temperatures mainly in the 50s for our daytime highs.

later this afternoon is the better chance of seeing those showers. now heading into saturday it is actually turning wetter. we've added a level one to saturday. saturday morning we have some light showers but watch saturday afternoon and saturday evening. this is 11 p.m. we're starting to see heavier rain move in ahead of the main storm on sunday, so sunday morning it's a level three, a strong storm. we're tracking heavy rain, damaging winds. these winds could be even stronger than our previous storm earlier this week. so flooding and trees down. a huge concern with this system. here's future weather saturday we see some light to moderate showers, but watch what happens on sunday. sunday morning we just have heavy rain, folks out at the bay area and also some heavy snow coming to the sierra. so we have to prepare for inches of rain in some spots. i think the santa cruz mountains, we have to watch extremely closely. they'll take the brunt of the rain and the wind, but i think it's a pretty good estimate. we could see 1 to 3in for many cities, probably five inches in the santa cruz mountains. but santa barbara county, la county going to see very heavy rain sunday to monday. they could see more than

valencia street center running bike lane, according to the agency, average daily bike volume is about 3% higher, with the new protected bikeway. that's compared to the previous road layout, although i need to say, according to the chronicle, these numbers are disputed by some. the pilot program began in august to increase biker safety. muni was supposed to provide this type of data in a preliminary report in november. the agency now says the report will be released on february 20th. and according to the chronicle, muni is admitting that this valencia street project may not last much longer . >> chef jose andres has been nominated for a nobel peace prize. the celebrity chef established world kitchen world central kitchen in 2010 to help feed people impacted by the earthquake in haiti. since then, his organization has served about 350 million meals to people in crisis. all around the world, including right here in the bay area. andres was previously nominated for the nobel peace prize in 2019.

morning everybody. happy friday. it is february 2nd. >> we start with a check on the weather. hi, drew. hi. >> it's kind of a rinse and repeat forecast once again. live doppler seven this morning showing you we are tracking scattered showers, some isolated downpours right now. you see those pops of yellow. you could go underneath a quick moving downpour as you drive this morning. it shouldn't last too long, but we will be in these scattered showers throughout the afternoon. it's also chilly this morning. temperatures cooler than yesterday. a lot of us beginning in the 40s this morning. it is a level one today for those scattered showers. just like yesterday where we saw thunderstorms pop up. we have that chance again today with thunder and lightning possible and along the coastline we do have some rough surf, so just future weather showing you it's just an unsettled afternoon. we'll see those scattered showers from time to time, even into the evening as well. but then we turn our attention to the weekend and sunday. we have another atmospheric river set to soak us, and also bring some damaging winds. flood watches are up high wind warnings too. we'll talk about that in eight minutes. let's check in with

gloria and see the slick spots out there. >> yeah, you know, there definitely are some slick spots. you know, some areas are experiencing scattered showers. so you may kind of, you know, come across a downpour while you're driving or the road may just be a little wet from rain earlier. but so far, if you look at our overall map, we're not really seeing too many big impacts at this time from the wet weather. just our usual slow spot from the central valley. and if you look here at the drive times from tracy to castro valley, that will take you 44 minutes from highway 85 to the san jose airport, 13 minutes, and then from highway one to san francisco. that will take you 11 minutes. >> the north bay preparing for more wet weather after dealing with flooding, heavy rain and a lot of wind. >> abc seven news reporter lena howland is in sonoma, where free sandbags are now available. lena >> hey, reggie. that's right. officials are urging folks to take advantage of this break in the rain to pick up sandbags like these here at the parking lot of depot park. now, sonoma county fire crews are also using

the break in the rain to prepare for the possibility of more water rescues there. swift water rescue team trains 5 to 6 times a year, which we got to see them getting ready for yesterday in high water. these are skills they already put to work on wednesday to rescue someone who tried driving past the roadblocks and through some high water, and couldn't get out of their car around this time last year, the team was deployed to at least 12 rescues. >> a motorist that was stranded in flooded waters with water rising into the vehicle. so this person actually went around the road, signs the barricades. that said flooded road closed. >> so these are pre-positioned from ows and so we're in each of the boats has a staffing of at least three people. and we also have a jet ski. >> another big concern with all of this rain has been the russian river water levels. fire officials say the break in the rain allowed for more water to

which we thought was like a motorcycle going by and then a few seconds later there was a big boom. shook the house, shook the windows. we went around the corner. we could see the flames shooting like 50ft in the air with a big plume of smoke. it didn't even look like there was a house left there. >> firefighters rushing to the scene finding four mobile homes on fire. the plane lodged inside one of them. i can confirm that we have several fatalities, both from the aircraft and within the mobile home fire fighters were able to. >> new developments in a story we first brought you yesterday morning, the teenage girl who fell from a ski lift is still in the hospital this morning. mammoth mountain operators say initial investigations suggest that she was not fully seated for unknown reasons. operators say they promptly stopped the lift once they noticed the 16 year old was slipping from the chair. the employees and guests also immediately responded, placing a net beneath her. this decelerate her fall, but it didn't stop it. the teen has

been in the hospital ever since, and there has been no update on her condition. >> the storm brought heavy snowfall to the sierra, the uc berkeley sierra snow lab at donner pass reports more than 10.5in of powder fell over the last 24 hours. tahoe anticipates more snowfall over the next 48 hours, and sunday through monday . donner ski ranch anticipates a snowy forecast over the next few days. after having a slow start to the ski season, workers have been scooping and scraping around the ranch to prepare for the snow to hit the terrain. snowfall is expected to get heavier. as i just said on sunday and monday, which could bring in big business for the ranch. donner's general manager says the fresh powder means a better experience for guests. >> having more snow makes it a lot easier to build the ramps and stuff for people to get on and off the lifts, so we're looking forward to that. >> um, supposed to have a nice day. so we're hoping lots of people will come out to enjoy all this beautiful fresh powder that we're getting.

wetter. unfortunately. i know we thought saturday may get a drier day, but now it looks like the rain is light in the morning and then intensifies after the sun goes down. so now this becomes a level three on sunday morning. we have raised it on the storm impact scale because this storm is coming in wetter and windier, and that's why we could have flooding and trees down. here's future weather saturday. the showers approach and then sunday we have that moisture again. just aimed right at northern central california. and that is going to bring us heavy rain at times. what we're looking at right now is several inches in some spots. the storm, since it's aimed more at central california, it's the south bay and the santa cruz mountains that could see the higher rainfall totals. lower in the north bay, but we will likely see some pockets of flooding with new flood watches out and even some wind advisory. so here's the accuweather seven day forecast. we have showers potential thunderstorms today. more rain saturday, heavy rain and strong winds on sunday. in the morning it's a level three. you do really want to prepare for this storm and showers
