enough. guess california needs water. but at the same time uh. it's definitely not good when people are getting trapped in their homes and this storm is sticking around. >> the rain isn't done with us just yet. good evening and thanks for joining us, everybody. i'm dion lim. we have live team coverage for you tonight. you can see live doppler seven radar in the middle of your screen tracking that storm. and that is where we begin because more powerful winds and heavy rain are coming. spencer christian has some important information on what we can expect. spencer. okay dion,

let's start with live doppler seven. >> and there's your picture. we've got widespread rain still drenching the bay area. the heaviest rain right now is up in the north bay. and over the santa cruz mountains. so let's move along and take a look at our current wind gusts. because as you mentioned, the wind gusts have been damaging. we've got 47 mile per hour gusts at sfo right now, 48 over in oakland, 54 mile per hour winds at hayward and up in the hills. the gusts have been over 60 and up to 70mph in the last hour. this is still a level four storm on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. even though the storm, the heaviestrillionain fall is not quite so widespread as it was earlier. so for this evening , we expect more downpours, flooding, rain, strong damaging winds. there's a possibility of more downed trees and power outages. here's a forecast animation starting at 530. notice over the evening hours. going into the late night hours, we'll see more widespread pockets of downpours as opposed to a steady blanket rainfall. but still, these are flooding rains that will continue mainly in the south bay after about

930. up until about midnight or so, and after midnight, we'll see the storm beginning to break up into more scattered showers and rainfall going into the early morning commute, but it's still going to be rainy and windy as the morning commute begins, and we still have flood watches and warnings in effect, as well as wind advisories. i'll give you a closer look at the details on those alerts a little bit later. >> dion. all right spencer, thanks. in the north bay the storm is leaving behind a trail of damage. firstrillionesponders have been busy with toppled trees and flooding from heavy rain. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard is live for us in nevada, where many neighbors are dealing with a lot of high water. you see it behind you, cornell? >> yeah. in fact, the truck just driving through here on lauren avenue. dion, we have seen some wild weather today. and yes, a lot of flooding. and it may be a while before the water recedes here on lauren avenue because the rain keeps coming. so comin, so does the wind. we are getting drenched once again here in the north bay. the storm is really

serious and it is causing a lot of damage. >> i left to work around 2 a.m. this morning. the street was bare, came back uh- eight hours later and next thing you know we got water up to our ankles. some parts may even maybe even close to your knees. >> sergio melendez can't believe how fast this flood water rose on armstrong avenue in novato. some brave drivers decided to venture past the closed road signs, but folks living in the novato rv park are feeling stranded. >> i got a lot of cars stuck in a lot of people trapped in, you know, everybody's got stuff to do. um we're all just kind of being held against their own will. >> across town, flooding left garden court inundated. >> we woke up and it was all flooded out here. >> the water about 2 to 3ft deep and coming close to homes. some cars stalled out. neighbors say it's runoff from nearby novato creek. >> once there's a drain pipe here and once it starts coming backwards, we're done. you know, it's not. it's not draining anymore.

>> we found slow traffic on northbound highway 101, where the left lane was under water. caltrans on scene trying to drain it in santa rosa. firstrillionesponders say the driver of this crushed car survived after a redwood tree fell onto northbound 101 near todd road. >> we received a call of a tree down onto a motorist and our crews arrived on scene along with santa rosa fire and found a motorist trapped inside their vehicle with a redwood tree on top. >> the driver was hospitalized with serious injuries across sonoma county. there were dozens of downed trees reported, some which struck homes and power lines in bodega bay. this tree fell and damaged two neighboring homes. >> with the wind that is coming through and throughout the rest of the day, um, we are just going to be extremely busy with these hazardous conditions. i love these tickets, girl. >> back in novato, benedetta dalbesio was trying to keep her backyard chickens safe and dry.

>> my chickens don't like it. no, no, they're in their coop going. what the heck is going on? it's crazy. yeah yeah >> you got to keep the chickens dry and like spencer said, those flood watches continue until tomorrow. caltrans is using those digital road signs. maybe you've seen them asking drivers to basically stay off the road until tomorrow, so might be a good idea. it is very hazardous out there and the wind. can we talk about it? it is really bad out here. we're live in novato. cornell, bernard abc seven news. yeah, even having part of a camera, you can see it whipping the wind. >> stay dry and stay safe out there for now. the storm damage is widespread in the south bay. and that includes this tree. you see, it just smashed onto a townhome at rocky creek court. abc seven news reporter lena howland says winds are a big issue there. >> the wind has really been the biggest problem for folks across san jose with debris scattered

all over the area. the. just take a look at this massive tree which fell onto a home here at el grande drive and vista oak in san jose. fire officials tell us two people were inside at the time, but luckily no one was hurt. now, this wasn't the only issue. crews ran into today. take a look at this. another massive tree crashed into a town home around 730 this morning. this one happened in the area of rocky creek court on the east side of san jose. from the outside, it looks like the tree fell in the garage of the home. but one of the residents tells me it also fell into her bedroom. coming within feet of where she was sleeping. but luckily no one was hurt. fire officials say this incident severed a gas line, but p-g-and-e's has already secured utilities and there is no further concern. san jose fire officials tell us that they have received several calls due to the wind, including asking wires, some wires down, a few other electrical emergencies and

a power outage. northeast of downtown. the fire department has up staffed for additional urban search and rescue personnel in case of any possible water rescues, and if you do see any standing water here, you are asked to avoid it. do not drive through it because you don't know how deep it may be, and you also don't know what's in that water. it's best to find another route in san jose. lena howland abc seven news. >> san francisco emergency crews have their hands full with clean up jobs caused by the weather, and that includes a landslide in the area of market and danvers. the slide toppled a tree landing it on westbound lanes of market street. the fallen tree blocked traffic, but there are no reports of injuries. that is the good news. now a similar scene this afternoon along fillmore street near turk. several large branches just snapped off a tree by wind gusts, which also knocked down some power lines. all of it created a traffic

delay as city public works crews cleared the mess. the storm has left one family in pleasant hill with quite a mess in their front yard. wow. take a look. another toppled tree, but this one large enough to cover the yard and reach onto the street. that's just one of several spots in the east bay dealing with a clean up this evening at another location, a vehicle got tangled in some power lines that were knocked loose by the storm lost to those winds. it could be a few more hours before they begin to die down. you are looking at conditions this morning at the pittsburg marina, where winds reached 45 miles an hour. some of the strongest gusts were in point reyes, about 85 miles an hour. the santa cruz mountains saw some gusts nearing 100. pacific weathered the storm without some serious visible damage, but despite fears of further deterioration, the pier withstood the winds and the waves. it remains closed after a

>> taking another look at doppler seven radar tracking the storm. so much green there and atmospheric river is bringing rain, strong winds and possible thunderstorms. today. the entire bay area is now under a flood watch until 10:00 tomorrow morning. spencer will have another update for you in just about five minutes. now to a rain soaked sendoff for the red and gold. the 40 niners are on their way tonight to las vegas for next sunday's big game. abc seven news reporter ryan curry is at levi's stadium, where fans cheered on the team as they hit

the road. and ryan, a little rain didn't deter those fans. >> now, dion, if you thought the rain was going to stop these fans from showing up today for the sendoff, you would be wrong. it was packed today along the edges of the stadium. a lot of ponchos, a lot of umbrellas, and of course a lot of red and gold well, there they are. the bus left around 345 this afternoon. and of course, all along the edges of the road outside the team headquarters were packed with 40 niners fans, all of them waving their flags, cheering as loud as they could, and just to give the players a little bit of extra motivation as they prepare for one of the biggest games of their lives at the time, they left, we finally had a break in the rain. but make no mistake, everyone here got soaked. it was so wet throughout the afternoon, even in the moments leading up to the departure. but for some fans, wishing them good luck was

>> a 911 call for a car in the guadalupe river led to the rescue of several people. today, san jose fire crews were called out after someone reported that car near 87th and taylor rescue teams were unable to reach that vehicle, so they put up a drone to see if anyone was inside. they found it was empty, but the drone did spot four people further down the creek at autumn and coleman. they were all rescued. firefighters say they weren't connected to the original call, though, for that car. this winter storm, san francisco international airport. taking a live look at a pretty gray scene out there this morning. sfo began diverting flights to san jose airport because planes couldn't land in the wind and rain. average departure delays of about an hour while inbound flights are

delayed up to four hours because of wind. flightaware also reports more than 300 delays at sfo today, and nearly 140 cancellations as an. here is a broader look at the storm's impact. a number of state parks, beaches and national recreation areas are closed. that includes muir woods marina park in emeryville is closed indefinitely because of tree damage from the storms. there service has been suspended until further notice due to strong winds and rough waters. the final round of the at&t pebble beach pro-am that has been postponed to tomorrow, and certainly with that ground being saturated, i wouldn't be surprised if we see more of these kinds of incidents. >> i think you're right, dion. you know, we already had a certain level of saturation from last week's rain, and now we've got this level four storm on top of that. and you can see what a level four storm can do now in terms of its impact, which is what it's all about. here's live doppler seven. you can see we've got quite a bit of rainfall still with some heavy downpours, heavy rain. right now up in the north bay and down over the

santa cruz mountains. but everyone has received quite a soaking already across the entire region from this storm, and you can see waves of rain continuing to push up into the area right now we're looking at the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. this is still a level four storm, even though the downpour is are more widespread than they had been earlier. for this evening, more downpours flooding likely strong damaging winds. still a possibility of more downed trees , and of course, power outages forecast animation starting at 530 shows more waves of rain and downpours moving into the area in the evening hours. a bit more widespread, but still the impact will be significant as we get into the late night hours. then after midnight we'll see some weakening of the storm system going into the early morning hours. yet it's still going to be a significant storm. it still could cause damage, flooding, downed trees that sort of thing. rainfall estimates by 8:00 tuesday evening could see nearly 3.5in of rain down at ben lomond over an inch and a half, likely in san jose, over an inch and a half in oakland, over two inches in san francisco and up in the north bay. our wettest region

apart from the santa cruz mountains, where we'll see 2 to 3 or more inches of rainfall. with all that rain, we still have a flood watch in effect through tomorrow morning. flooding in rivers, streams, creeks and roadways. this lighter green area indicates where we have a flood warning. not just a watch, but a warning. much of the north bay here, parts of sonoma, marin and napa counties and down in parts of alameda county near hayward and fremont. a flood warning as well. wind alerts. well, we have wind watch for the surface areas indicated here in the tan or beige color. winds gusting up to about 50mph. that's in effect until 10:00 tonight. the purple areas, the hills and mountains. we have a high wind warning in effect until 10:00 tonight with wind gusts expected to reach or exceed 60mph. high surf advisory in effect until 4:00 tomorrow morning. wave heights are really growing 20ft right now at bodega bay. wave heights could reach up to 25ft. of course, there's a risk of rip currents and dangerous swimming and surfing conditions. obviously, over in the sierra winter storm warning

in effect until 4 a.m. tuesday, more heavy snow, likely with gusts up to 80mph over the ridges, 1 to 3ft of additional snow will fall there back to the bay area. right now we're looking at temperatures ratings in the upper 50s to near 60, and we're looking at wind gusts right now, 48mph at oakland, 53 at sfo, 54 mile per hour winds at hayward. so it's still gusty all around the region. and as we look at the trees and the camera shaking in san rafael, these are the weather headlines. scattered downpours. windy this evening. overnight into tomorrow morning, possible thunderstorms and windy . remainder of the week. calmer and drier. and as we look at tonight's lows, mainly upper 40s. tomorrow's highs generally upper 50s. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast. and you can see we're going to get a little bit of a break. but even tomorrow as this storm weakens it's still going to be a level one going into the afternoon hours. and then midweek mainly dry with lots of clouds and maybe a passing shower or two. friday looks like our best chance for the next round of rain to come in after
