now at six hundreds of thousands without power across the bay area right now, some could be in the dark for several more hours. we're monitoring the areas where things are the worst, and it's not just the bay area. >> got outages. of course, all

across the bay area, including in san francisco. so and the east bay and other places. but the hardest hit right now appears to be the north bay, the peninsula and the south bay. >> we are not quite out of the woods just yet. still at a two of the storm impact scale this morning, drew telling us how windy and rainy things could get today. >> good morning. welcome to monday, february fifth. >> yeah, people are dealing with a lot this morning. i know you were dealing with no power. gloria. >> yeah. our power went out yesterday about 1:00 and it is still out this morning. so it's just been candlelight fireplace. it's been tough. yeah. and i know a lot of people are dealing with that today. and part of the problem is they couldn't get out there last night because it was so windy. >> but thankfully the winds are backing off this morning. we're through the worst of the storm. we have leftover showers and downpours and some brief gusty winds to deal with the next couple of hours. here's live doppler seven will take you down into the santa cruz mountains, the south bay where we're seeing

much of the action right now. we're tracking scattered downpours, several lightning strikes off the coast of santa cruz this morning. it's not out of the question. we could see a thunderstorm move on shore. that's something we're tracking this morning. the big story. the winds are not nearly as strong as they were yesterday. yesterday we're seeing gusts. well over 60mph this morning. most cities seeing gusts less than 20mph. and as we go throughout the day, the winds get even weaker. the afternoon they are much lighter. most of us seeing winds less than ten miles per hour, which would be great for crews to get out there to restore power at a level two until 8 a.m. this morning, because of those showers and thunderstorms and those gusty winds, please watch out for debris on roads. a lot of trees came down the last 24 hours, and we're still cleaning up for that. let's see how we are doing on the roads with gloria this morning. good morning. >> yeah. you know, drew, you mentioned it, but yeah, a lot of debris out there on the roads in some areas. i know when i drove into work there were branches, leaves on the road, even huge piles of sand. so watch out for that. especially if you're going out right now because it is dark out there. could be hard to see.

so drive a little bit slower, make sure that you are looking out for those kinds of things. also, heavy wind today in some areas, chp has issued an extreme wind advisory on the upper deck of the bay bridge, saying box trucks can over turn. so be very careful. this is a live look outside at our bay bridge toll plaza. camera. you can see it's really busy out there right now. metering lights flipped on at 536 this morning. so we'll keep monitoring the roads for you this morning. kumasi >> thank you. gloria p-g-and-e's says crews are still working to restore power to more than 230,000 customers here in the bay area. so here's a live look right now at the p-g-and-e's outage map. and you can see the impact across the region. the colors you see here represent different clusters. the green means up to 50 customers are without power yellow up to 500. and then on change is up to 5000 and red means more than 5000. people do not have power. when we see a lot of that near the south san francisco area, abc seven news reporter lena howland joining us live in that area.

lena, what's it looking like there? >> kumasi we're in a south san francisco shopping center where we are completely in the dark right now. as you can see behind me here, every single storefront , including the gas station behind us, are without power. this morning. and that includes most of the traffic lights in this area as well. so we had to make quite a few very slow four way stops just on our way to find this live shot location. now, yesterday we saw winds whipping across the bay area, trees toppled and power lines down in the east bay. two trees came down on a home in berkeley and a close call in walnut creek when a tree fell on a residential building, displacing six people in san francisco. more aftermath. with trees down throughout the city, across streets and power lines got outages, of course, all across the bay area, including in san francisco and the east bay and other places. >> but the hardest hit right now appears to be the north bay, the

peninsula and the south bay, p-g-and-e's says crews will continue to make repairs and get customers restored as soon as possible, according to new numbers from p-g-and-e's. >> they are reporting that there are still more than 56,000 customers without power here on the peninsula. at this hour. live in south san francisco. lena howland abc seven news. >> thank you lena. now a warning from caltrain of possible delays during the morning commute because of downed trees. this one caused officials to cancel train service between millbrae and sunnyvale yesterday. caltrain says crews are stretched thin, which could cause even more delays during your commute. another major impact of these storms flights at sfo. here's a live look from the wet tarmac at sfo. had to start diverting flights to san jose airport yesterday because planes couldn't land in the wind and rain. things are almost back to normal now. according to flight tracker flightaware.com. we're seeing about 45 flight delays and at least 28

cancellations so far this morning in the south bay, the east side union high school district has canceled classes today, and these schools include apollo high school. >> calero high school and adult transition program. south oak, oak grove high school, as well, w.c. overfelt high school and adult center, yerba buena high school, the district saying it's all because of power outages. now the storm is leaving behind a trail of damage in the north bay. toppled trees, flooding and power outages all causing problems. and that includes schools having to close today. we mentioned some these are the ones in sonoma county. they are reporting storm related flooding or power issues. fort ross elementary says it had damage to part of its school. novato residents are dealing with a lot of high water, and people living near the novato rv park feel stranded because of the flooding in santa rosa, first responders say the driver of this crushed car survived after a redwood tree fell onto northbound 101.

the driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. one homeowner is trying to keep her backyard chickens safe and dry. >> my chickens don't like it. no no, they're in there. a coop going, what? what the heck is going on? it's crazy. >> caltrans is warning people not to drive on freeways today to avoid any accidents, because the roads are slick. so you know what we have here? >> imagine taking that and amping it up even more, because that is what they're seeing in southern california. they are being pummeled by the slow moving storm. this is video from santa barbara county, where a road became a river. the santa barbara airport also shut down overnight because of flooding on their tarmac. in total 40 million people across the state are now under flood alerts. >> and it's going to be very slow moving. and there are some initial indications now that it may stall out monday into tuesday, near la county, south of santa barbara and ventura road. >> conditions are dangerous for drivers. you can see people are

and highway 50. palisades tahoe ski resort closed yesterday due to the intensity of the storm and increased avalanche danger. officials say the lifts will be slow to open today. now here's what it looked like at heavenly resort uc berkeley's central sierra snow lab posted this video yesterday on social media. almost six inches of snow fell earlier in the day, with more snowfall covering the region overnight. >> but this was definitely the strongest winter storm we have seen this season. still a winter storm warning in effect until 4 a.m. tomorrow. still an additional 1 to 2ft possible above 7500ft. back here at home, it was all about the wind. the rain yesterday. look at some of these peak wind gusts, pablo point in marin county, a peak wind gust of 102mph. so clearly you can see why we had so many trees down, so many power outages yesterday. let's talk about the winds. great news today. they are weakening fast into the afternoon. they are going to be light. most areas less than ten miles per hour,

glory is at the live desk with more on the investigation. gloria. >> good morning. kumasi boeing is conducting a new investigation into quality control after a problem found during the production of 737 max jets. now the company says that workers flagged missed drilled holes on 50 undelivered planes. reuters reports that there was a spacing problem on holes drilled on the window frames. boeing says a mis drilled holes posed no immediate flight safety risk. the company also says all 730 sevens can can continue to fly safely. >> the one thing to keep in mind whenever something happens in aviation involving an airliner is that more than 50% of the airliners around the world are boeing products. >> boeing has been under pressure since the mid air blowout of a door plug on a 737 max nine jet last month. that incident prompted the faa to ground the planes for weeks and order new inspections. the ceo of boeing says that they plan to take several days this week to

work on those misaligned holes, and it could delay the delivery of some new planes. kumasi >> thank you. gloria. now to a story you will only see on abc seven. an oakland restaurant considering shutting down after being broken into and robbed four times this year. employees at seibel's pizza in the diamond district have resorted to fending off attackers themselves . the owner says the crime in the area is so bad it's hard to retain workers as sales are dropping down because nobody wants to come out, nobody, nobody. >> they're scared for their safety. 20% of the sales were worse than the pandemic. >> mayor shang tao's office tells abc seven. they've been working with the owner and other small business owners to strengthen security. her office also says they recently granted two small businesses $25,000 for repairs. they say they will work with seibel's for some type of funding, as well. >> new details about a plan to

boost business in san francisco's chinatown during lunar new year celebrations. the chinatown garage is offering two hours of free parking this month . supervisor connie chan proposed using money from an apec relief program to pay for it. however the board hasn't actually approved the funds. the garage started offering free parking on the first of the month anyway. community leaders hope this will help encourage people to visit the neighborhood, which they say has not yet fully recovered from the pandemic. by the way, lunar new year starts this saturday after one last show last night, the historic castro theater in san francisco is now shut down for the next year, and a half to be restored. the $15 million restoration project will include refurbishing the iconic sign out front and repairing the roof. the new plan also will add more room for the stage to accommodate different types of events, like live shows. the entire seating area and the stage will be ada compliant. of course, they are making the seats removable so that they can create concert events. the

winds in most areas less than about 20mph. we still have high wind warnings in effect in our hills. actually look at this. good news. this just happened. they have dropped all of the warnings and the advisories when it comes to the winds, because you have seen those winds are less than about 20mph. so that is fantastic news. we still have a flood watch in effect for the entire region until 10 a.m. this morning. we are still seeing some downpours in parts of the area. here's live doppler seven. it's really the south band, the santa cruz mountains that are seeing those downpours, having some heavier showers work through morgan hill this morning. we've been in and out of the showers across san jose into parts of livermore. we're watching some of these thunderstorms that have developed off the coast of santa cruz. not out of the question. we could see a thunderstorm this morning and even into the afternoon. so we'll keep it at a level two until 8 a.m. this morning. here's our low pressure. in fact, this low was so strong its pressure dropped to levels we haven't seen since 2010. you felt that in the form of all those winds. and now southern california is seeing dangerous rain. this morning we

have flash flood warnings in effect, the hollywood hills are getting hit hard this morning. here's future weather back here at home. it's all about isolated downpours. 1230 there's the chance of a thunderstorm popping up even into the evening. but tomorrow we can breathe. we get a break from the wet weather, the sunshine is back out. it's a nice tuesday before light showers return. here on wednesday. wednesday is a level one future weather showing you. we do estimate less than a quarter of an inch of rain on wednesday. we're not going to see those strong winds like we saw yesterday. so just a little bit more rain coming here midweek. here's the accuweather seven day forecast level two for scattered downpours this morning . a nice break in the storms tomorrow. some light showers wednesday into early thursday. but look at that weekend. so much better than this past weekend. sunny skies and near average temperatures. gloria. yeah you know, if you're driving this morning, we are dealing with a lot today. >> you could experience some scattered showers and if not actual showers, maybe slick roads, debris on the road like tree branches, leaves, that kind of thing. also pretty windy out there in some areas. now this is

a look at our overall map here in the bay area. and you can see a lot of green which is always what we like to see. the traffic is flowing. however there are some slow spots out there where you see the red and the yellow. we want to zoom in on one of those slow spots right now, and this is over in novato. there is a tree that fell on the road, and there's also downed power lines here in this area, and that's causing some major delays here. this is on alameda del prado between posada del sol and dussel court. and that is expected to take several hours to clear up. so we'll keep checking on this for you throughout the morning. but if you drive in novato, you might want to take a different route. this morning, guys. >> thank you gloria. now we're going to turn to ginger zee who's in la this morning. good morning america. >> good morning ginger. >> hey good morning reggie and kumasi i know you all know your pop culture, so think about the movie grease. think about, you know, john travolta down racing

a car in that drag race scene in the la river basin, which is usually dry like they've shot so many movies. terminator folks on motorcycles running through it that that is the la basin this morning that is usually dry and actually 24 hours ago it was mostly dry. and then this is what it looks like. this morning. that's after more than a month's worth of rain in just 12 hours. overnight this is such a substantial storm. and it is not just started. i mean, truly, the flash flood warnings that include brentwood, hollywood and i heard drew talking about it all the way back to malibu. that goes for the next couple of hours. that's the type of warning that they say don't drive, do not get in the car. we've already heard of mudslides, houses off the foundation, and we've got 24 hours left of this thing. yet to go. so we want to. rescues have been ongoing. we're going to see more of those today. i think we'll end up with a majority of this area getting easily a half foot of rain, if not up to a foot. some of the foothills the computer models are printing out wild numbers, so we're going to be here with all of the latest.

and of course i'll forecast it as it moves east, and we'll have the coverage of what happened for you all over the weekend. and then on top of that, you've got a.i. changing the way we shop, at least via amazon. so we're going to get into that story. and there was one other big story here, the grammys. yes, los angeles was drenching for the celebs as they went in. but there was some big headlines that came out. tracy chapman, you had a taylor swift and her big announcement. so much to get to with all the highlights coming up on gma. but i know i loved the moment of me walking in after world news looking like this. just soaked. and then all of these like unbelievable looking people around me with their hair and makeup and the thing and the thing and a lot of sequin and i'm all, hi. hey. how you doing? >> just trying to dry off ginger zee in the house. >> everybody. uh. it doesn't look windy this morning. >> yeah, yeah, my hotel, my hotel was a grammys like hub, right? >> i'm sure. right and you're on weather watch. um, has did you experience the high winds that we had yesterday because it got really wild in san francisco.

>> unbelievable. to see mammoth to 99. and then palisades tahoe 121 and then you had that 102 in marin county. uh, it really strong. and i've been following drew. drew always tweets the best stuff and to find that since 2010 because last year that that march 2023 when i came out there. yeah. right after it that was so low, that low pressure system was so deep. so to know that you beat that and then went all the way back to 14 years ago, that's considerable. and unfortunately, i think here this could rival a 1998. and that was the most devastating they've seen. so more than a quarter century since we've seen something like this. and i think a lot of people around la maybe just don't remember or weren't here or weren't alive. yeah. when it happened, lots of transplants too. >> well, ginger, we appreciate your coverage and thank you for bringing that to us. we'll see you at seven and we'll be right back

old trees, landslides and wind damage. what was left behind from yesterday's round of storms and someone you know is probably waking up in the dark. pkg andy reporting widespread outages across many parts of the bay area. we have people right on our team this morning who do not have power. >> good morning everybody. it is monday, february fifth. >> let's get to what we have in store this morning. hi, drew. yeah, thankfully we're through the worst, but we still have some issues out there. >> this morning, one of the biggest updates, our high wind warning and our wind advisories have been completely canceled. our winds are backing off this morning and they will get lighter as the day goes on. so some great news there. still dealing with downpours across the south bay, the santa cruz mountains will go in a little tighter. we're watching a couple thunderstorms developing off the coast, not out of the question. we could see 1 or 2 of these move onshore as the morning goes on. we're keeping it at a level two this morning until 8 a.m. for those showers. potential thunderstorms and winds are still gusty in our hills, but they are backing off. and please

in the bay area, muir woods is also closed. and in emeryville, marina park is closed indefinitely because of tree damage and other parks are facing partial closure as san francisco emergency crews have had their hands full with clean up jobs caused by this weather, including a landslide near market and danvers streets. >> the slide toppled a tree landing it on the westbound lanes of market street, then fall a fallen tree blocked traffic and at least we know no injuries were reported. high winds whipped. this goes from russian hill neighborhood, i think. this is video of the pittsburgh marina showing just how intense the waves and wind were there, but we do have some video of that tarp blowing in russian hill. really just strong winds across the entire bay area. having a significant impact on everyone in. >> yeah. so where you're looking at right now pittsburgh marina,

they got to 45mph. but then we also saw a point res 85mph. those were the gusts there. and the santa cruz gusts in the mountains near nearly 100mph. the storm has left one family in pleasant hill with quite a mess in their front yard. another toppled tree. the tree is so big it covers not only the yard, but when you zoom out you can see it goes all the way into the street. one of several spots in the east bay dealing with a cleanup this morning at another location, a vehicle got tangled in some power lines that were knocked loose by the strong winds. >> a 9-1-1 call for a car in the guadalupe river yesterday led to seven people being rescued. san jose fire crews were called out because someone reported that car near highway 87 and taylor rescue teams were not able to get to the vehicle, so they put up a drone to see if anybody was inside, and now they found out the vehicle was empty. but the drone did spot three people on an island in the river. rescuers were able to bring them to safety and then the drone found

>> and local resident. yeah, yeah. >> always always has ties to the bay somehow we'll find a way. yeah. this morning we're waking up to winds that are much lighter. so we're starting to breathe a sigh of relief out there. after those winds were gusting over 60, 70, 80mph at times we had winds in marin county that were gusting 100mph. so look at the winds right now. much better. most areas less than 20mph. in fact, our wind advisory and our high wind warnings, they have been canceled. but we are still dealing with showers out there, light showers in the north bay, heavier showers in the south bay. we are seeing some downpours. not out of the question to see some thunder and lightning to heavy showers moving through sunnyvale. it's a similar story. working through campbell san jose on their way to the north and east. here's the wider picture. our area of low pressure well to our north. in fact, this is the strongest area of low pressure since january of 2010. the winds were so fierce yesterday. now it's southern california's problem. l.a. is getting inundated by some very heavy rain this morning. in fact, we have a life threatening situation right now in parts of the hollywood hills. beverly hills, the santa monica mountains, flash flood warnings
