the 40 niners and chiefs touching down in las vegas overnight. fans out in full force for a superowl where the send off from san francisco to kansas city, where neighbors cheered on wide receiver rasheed rice. the chiefs and 40 niners, now just six days away from a rematch of the 2020 super bowl that started the chiefs dynastic run, now making their fourth super bowl appearance in five years. this time, they're facing off in america's betting capital . >> hey, they sure are. and the party in las vegas has already begun, as you can imagine. >> yeah, and you can see the teams arrived yesterday. the fans, they are still arriving. >> abc seven news sports director larry biel is there now and joins us live. larry, already some headlines happening . >> yeah, i mean, we're all of one day into our super bowl week coverage and we already have a
4:20 pm
significant controversy. the 40 niners are not happy about the quality of the practice field that they've been assigned at the university of nevada, las vegas, unlv. the niners, feeling that the surface is too spongy and it's too soft, added to that is that we have just like you have in california. it's been raining heavily here. this is an outdoor facility and the niners are understandably concerned about the possibility of injuries. if you're not confident in the surface, it's difficult to go hard in practice. so the chiefs, meanwhile, are indoors at the raiders facility. so they're doing just fine. meanwhile uh- let's talk about brock purdy a little bit. much of the focus is going to be on the 40 niners quarterback. he's been doubted all year despite the tremendous stats that he's put up there all off the charts. he's grown accustomed to being doubted and know some people are going to call him a game manager, no matter what he does. i think

it's sort of funny just because, you know, we're winning. >> i think over time i might get some respect, but more than anything, it hasn't been about proving people wrong or any of that. it's always been about you know, just proving myself right, you know, over time, i've told myself that you know, i'm good enough and i'm worthy enough to be playing at this level. and over time, i'll prove that to myself. >> let's bring in abc seven's chris alvarez for the field controversy. what's your take on this? well larry, the one important thing to remember is the chiefs are the home team. >> so they get all the benefits. they get to pick their jersey, they get to pick the facilities. so they pick the raiders facility. we just talked to nick wagoner a couple of minutes ago off camera about the situation. could get real complicated if the niners do not approve of the stadium or the facilities at unlv, they're going to have to switch times with the chiefs and that we all know they're creatures of habit. they're already out of their comfort zone. being in a super bowl. we'll wait and see how that turns out. and that's going to be a huge topic tonight here on monday night practice facility
4:22 pm
conditions not taylor swift. yeah, but maybe taylor swift. well no taylor swift will always be the subject because the chiefs are coming out first when they do opening night starting at 5:00. >> but nick wagner from espn talking about what will probably be something that has to be dealt with all week long, i don't want to get too deep into the groundskeeping stuff, but unlv, they have an artificial turf field. the nfl put a grass field on top of that last week, and so it's understandably i'm i'm not an expert in fields, but you could see why there would be a problem. the last thing you want is them to be uncertain and the practice field and have an injury leading up to the big game. >> and i think that will be something to look out for. we'll find out more in a little bit. >> all right. that's a wrap for now. i'm going to rejoin you for the four at four. but let's send it back to san francisco. >> oh boy a field controversy. >> all right. thank you guys. >> that's an interesting development. all right, let's check in now with abc seven news reporter j.r. stone. also in vegas jr. well dan, there is something to be said about that controversy because it is wet

102mph at pueblo point. you know, way up high loma prieta, 98 point mile, 98 mile per hour winds. but what about los gatos? that's down at the surface. it is very unusual for surface locations to have gusts up to 87mph. remarkable san francisco, half moon bay, oakland hills all had gusts over 60mph. and of course, the rainfall totals were pretty impressive. also so over two inches down at morgan hill, 1 in 1 third one and two thirds inches in san jose, just under two inches in san francisco and up in the north bay, three four five inches in some of the hardest hit areas right now, looking at live doppler seven, you can see that we don't have much of a storm left, but some fairly decent showers are falling down there in the santa cruz mountains and in the south bay, and the pattern has been throughout the day. the waves of rain, the bands of rain developing offshore and moving over the same areas, just drenching the same locations over and over again. we still have a level one storm for just the next few hours. on the
