pre-staged ahead of the storm, and it's not over yet. as abc's jacqueline lee reports, southern california is still facing a barrage of rain. >> the atmospheric river unrelenting as neighborhoods battle mudslides and flooding los angeles getting more than a month's worth of rain in 24 hours in beverly hills at least half a dozen homes were damaged and multiple people needed to be rescued. abc's rob marciano was there. >> so many slides in the hills around los angeles. but this is by far the worst. this home being pushed off its property onto this roadway. everything inside and exploding out of it and sliding down this hill, including this piano in ventura county, flood waters trapped this man with firefighters racing to save him in the beverly glen neighborhood of los angeles, ryan davis and his family woke up to a terrifying sound around 2 a.m. it felt like a jet engine was started, like right outside of our window. >> and then we look outside and then there's just mud and debris coming down, up and down. >> the california coast.

afternoon for places like san diego before breaking up. and then wednesday we see the storm depart over the four corners with high elevation snows. the heaviest rain across southern california could be more than a foot, as we found, and causing some issues. andrew andrea. >> all right. melissa, thank you. the bipartisan border bill is facing growing republican opposition as former president trump slams it as a death wish for his party. the customs and border protection commissioner said the legislation would give his agency the strongest tools he's had to manage the border in decades. but the bill in its current form, does not have enough gop support to advance in the senate, and house speaker mike johnson says it has no chance in the house. >> what they produce for us right now really isn't a border security bill. it's an immigration bill. and that is not what is needed for the moment. it does not meet the criteria that we have said very clearly and repeatedly. >> if the bill dies, that means $60 billion in aid to ukraine will also be blocked. and

president biden says he will veto a house bill that would send military aid only to israel, calling the move a, quote, cynical political maneuver. >> new york city is facing calls to resume cooperation with federal immigration authorities as a new crime spree is being blamed on migrants. seven men from venezuela were arrested yesterday accused of taking part in a robbery ring that snatched phones and purses from more than 60 women. police are calling the suspects ghost criminals, saying in some cases there's no way to track their criminal history or even their names. and officials in denver have resumed discharging migrant families from city run shelters. after a three month pause. they're allowed to stay in the shelters for no longer than six weeks. the plan is to move out. the plan is to move out 50 to 60 migrants every day. officials say. nearly all of them are finding other accommodations. >> nikki haley is requesting secret service protection as she continues to battle. former president trump for the republican nomination. her campaign is citing a growing number of threats against the

former south carolina governor. haley was the recent target of two swatting incidents, and she says the false 911 calls that sent police to her home put her family in danger. >> world leaders, including president biden, are offering well-wishes to britain's king charles following his cancer diagnosis. it came as a shock just days after he spent time in the hospital for another issue. this morning, the king's cancer shock dominating headlines in britain. doctors diagnosing the 75 year old with cancer. but the palace not saying what kind of cancer or what stage. >> it is actually quite difficult to get a sense of exactly how this is going to pan out for the next few weeks or months. buckingham palace is being very open on the one hand, but very fiercely guarding the king's privacy. on the other hand, buckingham palace says charles began regular treatments for cancer yesterday, one week after being treated for an enlarged prostate. >> the palace says doctors found a separate issue during that treatment, and further tests identified a form of cancer. the palace only saying it's not prostate cancer.

>> they're saying he's receiving outpatient treatment in london, but they are not giving any details of the kind of treatment he's receiving. >> charles has postponed his public events, but officials say he'll continue his duties as head of state. prince harry will travel to the u.k. in the coming days to see his father. harry left his official royal duties in 2020, moving to california with his wife meghan markle says no parent wants to hear that their child will suffer. >> harry did not spend time with his father or brother prince william during his last visit to the u.k. in september. >> he hasn't been into the u.k. very much since he left, when he has returned for certain things, such as court appearances, he hasn't always seen his family, and we know that those tensions still very much continue. it's clearly motivated, potentially those conversations to start and perhaps those bridges to be built. and i think a lot of people are hoping that is what will happen in the palace, says the king, is positive about his treatment. >> it's the second recent health scare for the royal family. princess kate is now recovering at home from abdominal surgery, wishing them all well.
