morning we are live with how business owners are coping after days in the dark. >> california wash out much of the southern part of the state, dealing with record setting flooding and dangerous mudslides . and they are not out of the woods yet. >> and breaking news overnight from the music world. toby keith, the voice behind red solo cup and so many other country hits, has died. >> good morning to you. it is tuesday, february 6th. a lot to get to this morning. >> we want to start with a check of our forecast with lisa. >> we've had a few light showers in the south bay, some of the hills there certainly some wet pavement out there. as we look at live doppler seven, all the activity really is in southern california. and as we go in closer, you can see some of the green there just south of san jose, maybe up towards petaluma and off the san mateo coast. so we are looking at a coastal flood of advisory for the next couple of days inside the bay, with the high tide, the low lying areas here, keep that in mind. and a high surf advisory. 42 in palo alto. it is much colder this morning. 39 in sonoma. so get set for a partly

cloudy skies. will warm up a bit into the mid 50s today. gloria. yeah >> you know, as lisa mentioned, you may experience some slick roads this morning. i know in san jose where we've been looking at the cameras, they have had some slick roads today. we do have some mass transit updates for you. bart is running trains at slower speeds because of the wet weather, and ace has announced that ace one and three are on about ten minute delays right now. and that's because of freight train traffic. so we'll keep monitoring this for you. let you know if there's any other updates for your mass transit this morning. reggie >> thanks, gloria. the bay area is still recovering from sunday's major storm. so here's the latest fallen tree and flood cleanups are underway this morning. before we get some more scattered rain today, sfo is down to a handful of flight delays and cancellations. some bay area schools are canceling classes today because of power outages, including two in san jose. several schools in sonoma county and at cal state east bay main campus. p-g-and-e's is still working to restore power to nearly 65,000 customers. that

is a major improvement from yesterday, when 400,000 were in the dark at one point, the utility says. in terms of outages, sunday's storm was rivaled only by two others. in 1995 and 2008. here is a live look at the p-g-and-e's outage map. green means up to 50 customers are without power. yellow up to 500. orange up to 5000, and red means more than 5000. and i don't think that we are seeing at this point any red on the map. so that is a bit of a good sign. abc7 news reporter lena howland is in mountain view with the impact of businesses, lena. >> hey, reggie, we're in mountain view right now. we're only in the past few hours, power has been restored to this shopping center. after spending almost a day and a half in the dark. it was a much different story last night, right around 10:00, when p-g-and-e's said there were still more than 94,000 customers without power across the bay area. a third of

which were in the south bay. that's where we caught up with restaurant owners scrambling to find food storage. the owner of el halal amigos and willow street pizza in san jose said his restaurants lost power sunday afternoon. but by monday afternoon, he had to rent a refrigerated van to transport food to another one of his restaurants in los gatos. he estimates a loss of $8,000 in inventory and 12,500 dollars in sales, so far. >> we have to move all of this into the refrigerator car outside. 20 years in the business, i have never had to close a restaurant due to a storm longer than a day. we couldn't run away from the spoilage, so we ended up losing a lot. >> but the dark did not keep people from grabbing a slice or a drink. over at bebo's new york pizza, that owner said they were fortunate to hook up a generator quickly thanks to the help from a customer. now new numbers from p-g-and-e's show that there are still more than 19,000 customers without power here in the south

bay, and also the greatest concentration of outages is up in the north bay. live in mountain view. lena howland abc seven news thank you lena. >> now we're going to take a live look at san francisco international airport. it's been relatively quiet there this morning, especially when compared with the weekend. right now, according to flight tracker flightaware.com, one flight has been canceled. we know at least 13 have been delayed. now the situation not too bad at the bay area's other two major airports. this is a live look from our oakland airport camera, but so far no cancellations here. just one flight delayed. now live. look at san jose mineta international airport. no issues reported there. this morning regarding flights in or out. >> at least three deaths are now being blamed on the storm in northern california, including one in santa cruz county. 445 year old robert brainard, the third, was killed after a tree fell on a home along highway nine in boulder creek. the damage to the house and cars

parked in the driveway was extensive. neighbors recall what they heard shortly after the tree fell. >> the thing we heard was somebody screaming, but then the screaming stopped like. like you've ever heard a wounded dog like that, but it wasn't a dog. it was human. >> well, that's horrible to hear . a second person inside the home was able to escape and call 911, and unfortunately, firstrillionesponders weren't able to save bernard >> more scenes of destruction down in southern california. crews there dealing with major flooding and landslides. state officials called this latest storm a once in a thousand years event. part of los angeles saw at least 12in of rain in just a 24 hour period, and as abc news senior meteorologist rob marciano tells us, the mudslides are devastating. >> so many slides in the hills around los angeles, but this is

underwent surgery and received chemotherapy and radiation. after his diagnosis. he released his debut album in 1993 and is known for hits like red solo cup and i want to talk about me. toby keith was 62 years old. >> king charles says cancer and is stepping back from his public duties during treatment. glory is at the live desk. what we know about the diagnosis is and how prince william will now be stepping up. gloria? yeah kumasi buckingham palace is not saying what type of cancer the king has, but this morning britain's prime minister told the bbc the cancer was caught early and the palace says that charles started regular treatments for cancer yesterday. >> one week after being treated for an enlarged prostate. buckingham palace says doctors found a separate issue during that treatment for their tests identified a form of cancer, but it is not prostate cancer. charles has postponed his public events but will continue his duties as head of state. prince harry will travel to the u.k. in

the officials implemented this 90 day ban in november after public works inspectors said that they were attacked by unpermitted vendors selling items believed to be stolen. now, two months into the ban, the city says their efforts have worked. 56% of businesses surveyed on mission street said the street was safer to keep this going, as we try to work through sacramento to get some changes to the policy to address fencing, i feel bad because that's again how i pay all my

bills, my rent. city's office. of economic and workforce development has given some permitted street vendors a $1,000 in financial aid during this ban. new development is a third body has been recovered in the deadly plane crash off the coast of half moon bay. the coroner has identified the body as 27 year old lucy ferrier, said to be the pilot of the plane. area was found four days after the body of his fiance, 26 year old cassidy rae pettit of oakland. an obituary published online says the two died on january 14th when their plane crashed. isaac zimmern and emma pearl wilmer chiles were the other couple on board at the time. the cause of the crash is still being investigated, and preliminary findings by the ntsb are expected later this month. >> florida governor ron desantis is once again invoking san francisco to push policy in his state. he unveiled a new plan to fight homelessness. the tagline of the governor's campaign was

clouds still lingering in the south bay for now accuweather seven day forecast level one system for wednesday. check it out into the 60s with sunny skies over the weekend. gloria. >> yeah, lisa, we are seeing some slick roads in spots. this is a look at our overall map for this morning. a lot of green which is what we always like to see. but we are seeing some slowdowns, some red, some yellow which means that traffic is either at a crawl or slowed down. and we want to zoom in here in one spot. this is over in tracy, and we want to tell you about this because this is causing some major delays here. a hit and run crash. this apparently was a two car hit and run. right now one lane is blocked and this is on westbound 580 past grant line road in tracy. so this is really going to impact those drivers from the central valley. now we're told that the injuries were involved here. and so we're working on getting more information on this. but because of this speeds are down to seven miles per hour. if you drive here give yourself a little bit more time.

isolated shower over the hills, but overall we're partly cloudy. we're dry today. we're tracking rain on wednesday. gloria. yeah >> you know, some slick roads out there this morning, so be very careful. we do want to tell you about an incident that's causing some delays over in the tracy area. there's a hit and run crash. this is on westbound 580 past grant line road. and this is involving two cars. we're told that two lanes are blocked right now and there are injuries involved. and as a result, speeds are down to eight miles per hour in this area. this is really impacting those drivers from the central valley. look at the drive time right now from tracy to dublin. 70 minutes. and that is partly because of this. now antioch to concord, another slow spot this morning that will take you 29 minutes. reggie >> all right. thanks so much, gloria. p-g-and-e's calls sunday one of the top three most damaging single day storms on record right now. more than 3000 crew members are working on damage assessment, repairs and restoration throughout its

service area. the utility says it's already restored power to more than 700,000 customers. there almost 65,000 more to go in the bay area. so let's look at that p-g-and-e's outage map. the good news is, even though it looks like a lot that's on here, most of it is green and yellow. so the red is what we are always most concerned about because it means thousands of people in each area without power. and this morning we are not seeing red. let's go live to abc seven news reporter lena howland in mountain view. with the impact we are seeing to businesses, lena. reggie the power just went back on in the past few hours to this shopping center overnight. >> however, here in the south bay, there are still more than 19,000 customers waking up without power this morning. this outage also hit restaurants very hard as they scrambled to find food storage yesterday. last night, lincoln avenue in willow glen had virtually no foot traffic. businesses had signs posted. they were closed due to the outage, but the dark didn't

keep people from grabbing a slice or a drink. over at bibo's new york pizza, the owner said they were fortunate to hook up to a generator quickly thanks to a customer, so we're able to keep the make line going and kind of keep things rolling. >> we got a little bit of light and the oven is gas, so fortunately we can still cook as long as we have business and people hanging out and orders coming in, we're going to keep the doors open. >> p-g-and-e's did make some some significant progress overnight, though, restoring power to almost 30,000 customers across the bay area between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. and while the lights may have come back on here in this shopping center, remember there are still many parts of the bay area going on their third day without power, and according to p-g-and-e's, the greatest concentration, the greatest concentration of outages is up in the north bay. live in mountain view. lena howland abc seven news. >> thank you lena. now in the

north bay, sandy's major storm left a trail of destruction in its wake. the clean up process is just starting and it could take weeks in santa rosa, a 100 foot fall from three foot tall fir tree, it fell into this home, crushing the garage. officials redtagged the home. strong winds also toppled a tree in forestville, taking out part of a driveway and power lines with it. residents there say they're now stuck at home with no way out. >> we're kind of stranded up here. we can't take our car down this driveway and we can't cross the downed power lines until they come and clear it. >> nearby in windsor, russian river brewing company says they saved the beer. the company rented an 800 watt generator sunday to keep the beer cool, according to social media. the brewery is back up and running yesterday afternoon with full service dining in the east bay. >> people there are dealing with damage and the aftermath of the weekend. severe weather just like everybody else. p-g-and-e's crews were seen yesterday working hard to fix snapped power poles. three walnut creek

elementary school started the day without power. residents trying to get by as power is getting restored. >> was cold of course, you can warm the house. you can heat anything to eat and it's not easy. >> a crane was called in after a eucalyptus tree crashed into a house in the oakland hills. witnesses say downed trees in the area aren't surprising during these types of storms. everyone is alive. everyone accounted for after an avalanche yesterday afternoon at a nevada ski resort, search teams rescued four people who had been reported missing at lee canyon. that's about 50 miles northwest of las vegas. search and rescue teams had to battle miserable conditions there to get to the mountain, which has seen nearly a foot of snow in just the past 24 hours. the best way to stay on top of these updates is with the abc seven news bay area app. you can look at the same radar that our weather team uses and check out full forecast. just

make sure to enable the apps notifications when you download in the north bay, a 16 year old is in juvenile hall after he allegedly showed up to santa rosa high school with a knife, authorities say. >> yesterday morning and into toxicated teen wearing a ski mask, trespassed a montgomery high school campus. he is not a student there, but the school has seen an increase in violence and gang related activities. police say the suspect was checking door handles at the school, then approached several students. they say he flashed a knife at a student and threatened to stab him. >> it is essential to acknowledge that schools alone cannot bear the entire responsibility of tackling the root causes of youth violence and gang affiliation. the entire community must come together to support our students and address the underlying issues. >> some experts say a multifaceted approach is the best way to keep students safe. >> community based organizations. that's in the neighborhood are even close by that work with these individuals
